Lesli,

I have found a couple of people in Longview and three in my own county. I walked a bit with the Longview people and did yoga with them, but was never able to get active with the locals from my own area. Just keep posting new threads around the Oregon team to catch different people's attention and also, you might want to post a query in the team huddle and on your status on your Spark Page.

Thanks guys. You are both over there where I grew up. My webbed feet are dried out over here in the desert...lol...I am sure there are some over here. I welcome friends from all over, just thought it would be nice to have some that might be real close to workout with and all. The dogs actually need some kind of walk everyday, but I admit they don't get it often. My goal is to exercise my 30 minutes in the am, and in the afternoon, no matter what the weather is like take them for a short walk just to get them out, and for a bonus workout. When it's nice I speed walk with them for 30 minutes, or longer. I don't feel like spending THAT much time outside in the cold...

Welcome to the team. I live in the NW part of Oregon and my dog makes me walk, no matter the weather. I just have to dress us accordingly. You need a pushier dog and a good ski hat and winter gear whereas I need rainboots and an umbrella.

I was 42 when I got my MS Ed in early intervention. I taught special ed, birth through age 5 for 20 years, and I did periodically have high needs students with emotional issues and traumatic backgrounds. It was probably the hardest and the most emotionally rewarding job I ever had. I retired this spring due to health issues, but I loved the children. Unfortunately there is drama in social work and education too because the programs are financed by the government and frankly people are greedy and short sighted. But you will find that little inconvenience just annoying and small potatoes compared to the joy of getting through to a child or a parent. Best wishes

Thank you Evochick...so where are you at now? I don't do much outside, well, now it's freezing, but I enjoy walking my dogs when it's nice. My daughter and I are going to walk up to the V at the top of the hill next summer, which is quite the hike. We also talked about a bike ride into town, which is 17 miles. Need to get in shape for my kids, and myself. And encourage them to follow as well. I spend most of my time indoors exercising right now, eliptical, gym, Wii-Zumba and Biggest Loser. But once I am smaller and more healthy I will be outdoors more. emoticon

Welcome aboard Leslie! The great thing about living in Eastern Oregon is there are so many things to do outside! I miss some of the high lakes and beautiful scenery.............
Good luck on your journey and wishing you all the little successes along the way!

Hi. My name is Lesli. I am a 39 year old wife and mother of three kids, ages 17, 15, and 9. I am a full-time college student, AGAIN. I was a Certified Medical Assistant for 7 years, and an EMT-B for a volunteer ambulance service. I grew up on the west side of Oregon, my family moved us to Montana my Sr. year. I met and married a Montana man, and was stuck there for many years. I got divorced and after taking almost a year to make sure all things were settled, I moved back to Oregon, the East side this time, because it's where my mom was. I met and married my current husband, and find myself stuck over here again, even though my mom returned to the west side. I started my new lifestyle in September, as I am nearing 40, and I need to get healthy. I have my own weight loss group of only 17 people on my FB. My friends and family wanted me to start it because I inspire them, however, I would like some friends that inspire me on occasion as well, and help keep me motivated. I would like to meet some people who are working toward a healthier lifestyle and want to help each other get there. I am positive and have a lot of motivation most of the time, but occasionally I have my down times, and need someone to help keep me going. I hope you are reading this and will drop me a line, or add me as a friend. I look forward to getting to know you. emoticon

ps. I found it necessary to go back to school for a different direction in my life. I loved the medical field, but kind of got burnt out on all the drama with co-workers. I loved being an EMT and saving lives, I have found a new path where I am working toward a Therapeutic Intervention Certification and Early Childhood Ed degree and doing my internship with at-risk children of possible abuse and neglect, So I am giving children a voice and trying to save children, grateful I started my healthy lifestyle before I started my internship because it helped me immensly to work with the little kids, being on the floor a lot etc.
