good for you Ronie! It is really hard when your job is that demanding. Keep up the good work!

This week I didn't do to well, but when I did walk It was for 2 miles. next week I want to walk 3 mile in the week, hopefully not just 2 x in that week.

This week my walking goals changed, I feel better because I had to push myself a little and I was still able to be successful with them, I started trying for 10,000 steps a day. My job requires me to be somewhat seditary, no breaks, I get 3 lunches a week (to myself) and I walk a mile or ride my stationary bike then, the rest of the time I'm sitting or very little moving around. So I set up a goal of 8 miles a week. I plan on upping that gradually until I get 10 to 11 miles a week in.

Just make a commitment to do things as right as possible as much as you can

I'm in White City and I try to walk 5 miles at least 4 times a week. So far so good! :) Can't wait for warmer weather so it isn't as cold when I go walking! :)

When the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change, then you will change!

We try to walk on the beach most weekends..some weekends the weather is so bad we can't. I just bought me a pedometer to track my steps. I fell into the idea we needed 10,000 steps. I'm so glad I found this thread. I barley make 3000 steps a day. I found a walking video on YouTube. So I walked a mile inside today. I'm jazzed because the oregon coast doesn't give you very many outside days. I really would like to walk 2 miles without being worn out, by the time summer gets here. I plan on increasing that so I can some day get those 10,000 impossible steps a day in..

Just make a commitment to do things as right as possible as much as you can

I walk everyday for a mile. I started out at a 20 minute mile (that nearly killed me) and now I am at 17.30 mile and I run 3 of the straights on the track.

I have walked every Sunday (almost) for a year now. They've been long hikes over hill and dale and it's been a lot of fun. So, my goal is to continue the hikes in 2010 and then add another long walk on most Saturdays.

I want to start walking during my lunch hour again. I was doing this every weekday until I got really sick. I missed 2 1/2 weeks of work and only recently got my strength back. it is time to focus on fitness and nutrition again. The good news about being sick was that I lost weight because of nausea. Didn't want to eat anything for about a month!

I was walking 2 miles a day; once in the morning and once in the evening before my open-heart surgery to repair my mitral valve. I've been on the hospital's walking program ever since the first day after surgery. This week I've had to walk for 30 minutes, which for me means I can cover about 1 1/2 mi in that time. It's testing my endurance. Next week and thereon I'm to walk 30-45 minutes at a time at least 4-6 times a week. My daughter and I are going to the beach next week, so that will be easy to do and more interesting than my usual circuit.

There is a C.A.T walk July 4 in Hillsboro Oregon. This is a fundraiser for Cancer Awareness and Treatment. Several of the females in my family will be walking in the event in honor of a sister-in-law that recently died of cancer. I encourage everyone who can to participate. The web site for the event is:

If anyone is interested, there is a Volkswalk in Sherwood OR this weekend.
The start point is at Rose's Restaurant & Bakery, 16015 SW Tualatin-Sherwood Rd.
The description of the walk is below.

This walk will take you among 600 or more vintage show cars. The hoods will be up and interiors on display and proud owners on hand to tell you about their handiwork. Plus their will be food, art and craft vendors. Two walks offered: 10K and 5K, both taking you into Old Town. The longer walk takes you through greenway paths along Cedar Creek. There will be lots of prizes donated by local businesses for random drawings throughout the day. More details: www.sherwoodmerrywalkers.org

For the rest of this month, my goal is to go on at least one volkswalk each weekend. I also think I have found my challenge walk for October. There is a walk in Happy Valley, I think around October 24, that is rated a 3+, which means a lot of hills.

I'm just trying to get my stamina back after two surgeries last year (and years of being lazy). Been going to the gym for a couple years, but now that I'm serious about my health I know I've got a lot of catching up to do before I'm ready for an organized walk. I hope to someday walk in the breast cancer relay they have here in October. Wow, wouldn't that be wonderful if I could make it this year for the first time, this is the first time I even gave it serious thought! A goal - I rarely set goals like that.

CeeJane,

That walk in Brooks sounds good. I may have to do that.... It is pretty close to where I am.

I've been doing in-home walking tapes (Sansone) since I live in the country so the roads don't have shoulders, and my goal is 2 miles a day/30 minutes. It's been a great start to a healthy lifestyle. I'd really like to start doing some walks around town --- my first goal is a 5k and I'm thinking my eventual goal is to attempt a triathlon but have to up my swimming skills and biking! LOL!

Just finished the 11K walk in Portland. It was a lot of uphill and downhill. Next walking goal is a 12K (7.4 mile) Peonies, Hostas, and More walk in Brooks Oregon on June 6. There is also a 6K option if anyone is interested. The walk starts between 8 am and 1 pm. You need to finish by 4 pm.
Start Point: 5690 Brooklake Rd, NE, Brooks, OR

Hi, great topic. Just went from 3 days a week to 6, doing 2 miles (2.3 with warmup-cooldown) at 3.5 mph on the old treadmill. It must be helping because suddenly 10 pounds are gone in as many days. Goals- I'll try to ramp it up to 4 mph as I get into better condition, and streach it out to 55 minutes. From previous experience I have learned to listen to "techno" type music on the ipod- not too many lyrics and really steady fast beat work for me!
If I was in Portland I'd do the walk this Saturday, should be a beautiful day for it.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is this Saturday! Come join us for a 2.1 mile walk. Weather is supposed to be great! We start at the Rose Quarter. I will be there with a sign that says "Dancing the Cancer Away". You can buy shirts there, but they go fast. Otherwise just wear pink to support the cause.

There is no cost to sign up and walk (though donations are encouraged.)You can sign up on our team's website or the day of the walk. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Here is a link to a map of the walking route: http://makingstrides.acsevents.org/site/Do

I bought an Omron pedometer. It is wonderful, and motivates me. I love graphs and tracking. It stays on. I uses little battery, because I have yet replace mine since January. It doesn't have the annoying click. It tracks calories, miles, aerobic steps and steps. Plus comes with a great program for the computer to track. You don't have to hook it up every day. It just downloads the info, accurately, when you get around to it. It was advertised here on Spark. It cost around $35. Best one I have ever had. I've had four others.
