A couple of us from the Southern Oregon page are starting a training program in Grants Pass this week for the Color Run in May which will be held in Medford. 5K untimed walking/running event.

My walking goal was on days I don't work to walk the dog and then once a week bike to work. so far Ive kept on the biking but not so much the walking. The dog misses walking and smelling the neighborhood. Two weeks ago I took him for a short walk. It was a nice sunny but cold (not too windy) day. But then I ended up having to work all last week. I am hoping to start walking once a week and up it to more later as well as biking.

He never got over his Dog not being here .
We got him a kitten and new dog because he looked like he was going to die of loneliness.
Got a pheromone plug in to make him a happier cay. Still not using the cat box, Pissing in the water bowel, not willing to sleep with us. just not a happy cat he wants to go out side in Yamhill so we will fill his CD food (food only available at the vet)

My goal is to walk 100 miles a month and 1,000 miles in a calendar year. This should net me 2,075 minutes and 20,750 minutes of exercise respectively. I have done pretty well, logging in 62 miles already this January and this includes 2 days of being strapped to the house with a terrible cold. At this rate, I could surpass 110 miles the first month in.

I was doing really well for a while last summer walking and going to the gym. I lost 20 lbs. I have recently gained it all back. My biggest issue is motivation. I've realized I really don't enjoy going to the gym and don't really enjoy walking alone. I would like to find a walking buddy.....If there is anyone in SE Portland area that would want to meet up a few times a week to walk I think it would be mutually beneficial. This sounds like something I'd be interested in doing (minus the actual race) http://www.sparkpeople.com/assets/diet4/5k_walk.pdf. I'm usually around late afternoons as I own a business and that is when the other owner is available to cover for me.

Have not been here for a while. My son, Greg was with us - until the end of December - he had terminal cancer - so most of my time was with him - watching MASH and knitting.

But, now that he is no longer with us, I have started walking more. Just need to get back to the club - just going in every day - for even 10 or 15 minutes on the treadmill - really inspired me to walk more.

I just started training for the Bridge to Brews in Portland for April 6. It's a 8K so my goal right now is to continue walking 3x a week progressively doing more until I can do 8K. Right now I'm following the Sparks 5K program and then will build off of that once it's done. :)

Well, have not been doing so good. It has been very cold - a good excuse for not getting out?? And, Greg has not been up to walking with me.

Need to check with my daughter on the status of our club membership. She has been paying for both of us, but her work schedule makes it harder for her to go - so she has been thinking about dropping it. I do like going there to walk on the treadmill. Seems like that works best for me.

My goal has been just 3000 steps a day - and have not even been doing that.

I had been doing so well with my walking goals and then my son was diagnosed with terminal cancer - and all my good plans fell by the wayside.

So, it is time to get back on the bandwagon. My goal is to walk at least 15 minutes 5 times a week.

I think i will like the new Spark Page - seems like everything is right up front!! Right in my face where I need it.

I live behind my daughters elementary school. My husband is a truck driver so I have the kids more often than not. So I decided it would be good for them to burn off some steam before bed, and I just started walking the track. It is a .25 mile track, so I just keep count of how many times I go around and go from there. I live in an area with some hills, and I want to be able to walk around the neighborhood without getting winded. So short term goal is to walk a mile every evening...that there isn't rain. Long term is walking to my church without getting winded.

My goals are to start out very slow. I have been using the Leslie Sansone "Walk With Me" for beginners. It is a 1 mile walk that adds in the cardio benefit. I could barely get through the first day but by day 4 my body is adjusting and I am actually sticking with it. It gets easier everyday and I am already feeling better!

Right now in the month of April/May the tulip fields are in bloom, Near Woodburn and Brooks there are two growers that have miles of packed dirt roads to walk on. Mind the weather and bring the family and your camera, the fields are a wonderful setting for photos. You can place orders for Tulips to be delivered to your home and enjoy them next season too.

If you love to walk or are just starting a walking program check out this Oregon Walking Events site. www.walkoregon.org/eventlst.htm
These are organized walks usually 5k and 10k long.
They are free , but it is nice to donate a few dollars to assist the walking clubs continue sponsoring these great walks.
Check them out and enjoy the great sights as you walk through beautiful areas of Portland and surrounding areas.
Dogs are often allowed too, so they can get some exercise along with you.

I walked the 5k Pear Blossom in Medford a couple of weeks ago. It felt great! I would like to be able to jog it next year. My Weight Watchers group is doing a 5k on May 22. I am trying to walk at least 2 miles 5 times a week.

hello Oregon peeps! My workout goals - 3x a week exercise, 1 of which is usually a walk. I have a simple pedometer, and feel that 10,000 steps (~5 miles) qualifies as a workout/exercise.

This week, walked 10,000 steps Monday, and did step aerobics sunday. I like "taking to the air" at least once a week, and like a few options for exercise, otherwise I get bored and don't follow through. Know what I mean?

Here's to active bodies and minds!

I am working on preparing for the Helvetia Half Marathon (to walk it) in June. I am trying to walk at least 6 miles at a time on the weekends and cross training on weekdays. When I get super motivated, I'll add some challenging treadmill workouts also.

I bought a pedometer to aim for those 10,000 steps a day. But I've been a walker since I trained and walked the Portland Marathon in 2007. Would like to get back to level of walking again and then maybe start running some 5Ks. Think it would be fun!

I've been on SP a week now, and have just started exercising. My doctor actually wrote me this cute prescription to walk 10 minutes every day for a month, and then he said he'd increase it next month. I have to start small because of my weight, bone-stress, and my heart. But I do lots of stuff at home, too.
Got my kitchen "fixed"- full of fresh, healthy foods. No Doritos or Little Debbies'.
Tried out plain oatmeal with a medium mushed-up banana in it, and it was okay I guess. But 20 minutes later I was feeling awesome, happy, and energized. What a difference! I never got that feeling from egg mc-muffins in the a.m.!

My goal is to be able to hike 13 miles by August (particular trail in the Cascades that I want to COMFORTABLY hike), and to hike up Mt Bachelor (approx 3,000 ft elev. gain) Currently walking up to 5 miles on weekend hikes and up to 1,000 ft elevation gain; walk or other exercise most evenings after work.

I'm brand new to SparkPeople. I did a 10K walk in January and now along with a friend have committed to train for a half marathon walk in October. I have a foot injury and am having a hard time getting motivated to start the training again. I'm down 40 lbs. since last March but am scared I will gain it back. Any ideas for motivation?

My first goal is to bike or walk to work at least two days a week. Then depending on my work schedule I'd like to increase it as the weather gets nicer closer to Spring and Summer. So far it has been hard to keep this goal. This week I've had to resort to pilotes/yoga dvd this week but the week before I biked once.

I finally saved up enough for a treadmill so I want to get at least 30 minutes of walking in every day. My idea is to do this for at least a month (or until I feel ready) and then restart the Couch to 5k walking/running plan.

My goal is to walk 4 times a week for at least two miles outside or on the treadmill. I live in SE Portland and walked to SW over a bridge. I didn't think it was that far and it ended up be 4 miles round trip! emoticon
This has sort of been a burden for me because I can run but I get really bad shin splints so I am learning to love walking.

Doing just a little bit during the time we have available
puts you that much further ahead than if you took no action at all.

I have put 2 things together
watch sex in the city on E! and walk in place during the commercials. if I haven't exercized for that day then I get a 15 minute walk, if I have then I just added extra time! it is on 5 nights a week that mean I get 75 mins a week easy.

I don't know how many steps it is (yet), but I will join the mall walkers. I will walk the mall 5 times 5 days per week.

Last week I walked on my treadmill Tuesday-Saturday, I skipped Sunday and Monday. This week I will walk again for at least 3 miles each time Tuesday-Saturday and next week will be Monday-Saturday 3 miles each day.

I am trying to walk at least 16 miles a week. Since my husband and I are training for the Portland to Coast its been pretty easy. After Portland to Coast I really want to stay on track and keep walking at least 5 miles 4 days a week.

I am trying to do 10000 steps a day I finally made it past yesterday I almost did 12000. most days it was only 6000 to mostly 8000 thinking I could never get to 10000. I listen to audiobooks while I walk so it does not seem to bad until I get past 90 min. I can't use a treadmill I am to heavy, so that is a goal to be under 250 so I can walk on the treadmill.

My goal for this week is to walk a minimum of 30 minutes every day. I have a treadmill, and I notice that when I use it I walk longer so I am going to stick with that until it gets cooler out. So far I've done 2 1 hr walks, 1 40 min walk and 2 30 min. The best part is I have felt fantastic after every walk!

I am trying to walk either 1.5 or 3 miles a day I listen to my zune usually a audiobook and it seems to help keep me motivated only been doing it a week but we all got to start somewhere
