yard sales & local donation centers (like salvation army or deseret industries) are good. when i lived in utah the local deseret industries had NEW baby items. i walked out with 5 bags of baby clothes for our girl and spend $30. some still had the original store sale tags on them! i spent 50 cents to $2 for newborn clothes i knew my baby would wear literally for a week or two then be out of them.

the things that were lifesavers for me...a baby swing was first. second is buying baby wipes in bulk LOL. they are good for cleaning baby and the 'messes' baby makes by spitting up on everyhing :) they now have car seats that snap into the car into a base then can be transfered easily into a stroller frame. one thing i loved was a body carrier where its a backpack you put baby in on your chest (some are side slings) and it helped to get stuff done with baby. if you plan correctly you can hit sales & clearance items.

i loved drawstring nightgowns...now they've eliminated the drawstring for safety reasons but they still put elastic in it...much easier to change baby without waking them up. also instead of scratch mittens you can use baby socks.

praying all is going well!

Heather - congrats to you and Chris!!!

I'm not going to be much with pregnancy advice - mine was 22 years ago and actually went pretty smoothly!!

I guees - the best I can suggest is pamper yourself now and enjoy all the free time you can - it will disappear after the baby comes along!!
Two best inventions (at least at the time Krissy was using them) - the baby swing (a nice way to "buy" some quiet time) and a carrier with an adjustable handle.

Susan - I saved everything until the first time I moved, then I had to downsize a lot - now all I have is some artwork and her Christening Gown.

I'm all about 2nd hand! I ordered 3 bella bands yesterday from ebay and have been checking some of the local buy and sell websites for furniture, etc but it's still pretty early for that.

Oh my goodness, you should see my belly! I've already gained 8 lbs and my waist has disappeared! Gaining weight is much easier than losing that's for sure!

Chris is home next week and I can't wait to start sharing this with him! He called the other day and was griping about the heat and his sunburn! He got no sympathy, it was -31 that day!

Susan, I know what you mean about buying at yard sales for the baby... My best friends sister's daughter was like 3 months older than my daughter and she bought the best of everything ...so I got first choice before her yard sales .. I still paid a little more than normal .50 to 1.00 prices but for the items and brands I still got a ... steal (bargain) ... I still have a few of the pieces that I saved back

Good Morning Heather..

Hugs

I bought my clothing for my darling daughter Marina at YARD SALES...
and I couldn't believe the cute stuff I got!
BARELY WORN...and her favorite baby blanket she had for (yes...OMG...until she lost half of it on an airplane at the age of 11 on a trip to Paris)
was under fifty cents!
When it started losing it's colors..heehee...
I was smart and actually cut it in half and put the other half away...(which she FOUND)
so I had to cut it in half again, and THAT part I did finally take a piece out of it and save...

When I finally moved to WV three years ago I realized HOW MUCH stuff I had saved from my daughter through the ages...OMG!!
and she is an only child...

This year I had to really sit down and weed through things and decide what to finally keep and let go, which is really really realllllllyyy hard...

for one...I am a hoarder...but I didn't want to just pass on stuff to her, just because it is HERS.
Many parents do it thinking, the children will love it. Well..my daughter told me...NO WAY..I don't want all of that stuff...*LOL

She told me honestly that she wants some of it, but she felt that after seeing what my husbands family did with the saving and saving...she wanted to make sure she wasn't passed on the "guilt" part of having to take everything that I had ever saved.

Sooo....

I am very very glad I saved everything I wanted to save throughout the years for MYSELF, and got the chance to look at it all again...

and I took my sweet time..

besides what well..you know...we all do..the normal baby books, recording what goes on..

I now have what I call...

emoticon The journey through time... emoticon

I got one of those larger folders that you can fold over and close in thick and durable plastic.
Yes..and I actually decorated it...

Inside I have my DD hand drawn art throughout the years. It is dated of course. I slipped the art work if it fit into a plastic sleeve cover and added a picture of her for that year.

Sometimes they are letters, or only the MOST special cards.
And..a piece of her blanket...with a picture of her carrying it..*smile

never was there a more sad girl *sigh
and never was there a more happier mommy when that darn thing got lost..(psstt..we won't tell her!)

Each one of the "art works", if the year differs, has a picture.

What doesn't fit in the folder...well..doesn't go.

I stopped around the age of 12.

Her other stuff-photos are in very special photo albums..*smile

Hugs...

we all find things to do it our way...

to smile and dream as we know that one day, when we sit down with our child and go through the Mementos...

we will share not only a very special moment with our baby, but we go back in time to share all the love we still have and is still growing, just for them..

Hugs Heather..*smile

I can't wait to hear about your journey...
Susan

Thanks Natalie, that's great advice. I'm all for buying things second hand...why buy new when someone has worn an outfit 3 time and then outgrown it? We're onboard for second hand furniture too.

My girlfriend in NS had a baby last June and she's all excited to off load things onto us--sounds good to me!

I've been feeling really great and was thinking last week that my fatigue was improving. This weekend is another story! I got 12 hours sleep Friday and Saturday nights and I'm still feeling wiped. I'd love to bail on my walk to nap but that wouldn't do me any good in the long run...I may have to take a sick day soon!

ROTFLOL...my dd liked cheetos as a child but has outgrown them. i cant remember what i craved with the second one except chocolate which i crave all the time anyway!

heather...here is something to consider. its kinda early to be buying too much stuff...considering you do not know the baby's sex and dang, for the prices anymore you want to save to hit a good sale LOL but start a notebook (you keep in your purse) on anything you see you might want (and are sure will be available in several months) and keep track of the price and location. it makes it easier when you're setting up your home for baby. the mind sometimes goes briefly where you forget things. then once you know the sex do not be afraid of registering somewhere...it will help YOU keep on track. for example we have a babies'r us here where i live. i had sil register once she knew the sex. that way when she had a little extra money here or there she would go in and buy off her own registry. then she had someone else keeping track of what she bought! then for relatives who might want to buy early (or once a month like we did with sil) we had a resource. do not be afraid to ask others what they loved...some things are not worth the money with trial and error!

for myself...we loved the aveeno bath products. my dd ended up with a skin allergy and now that she is 7 she still uses the baby soap/shampoo. also clearance can be your best friend...i would buy outfits i didnt really think were that "cute" but a great deal (unless you do not mind buying at a donation center like salvation army or deseret industries) for outfits they will only wear for a few weeks as a newborn. babies spit up and ruining a new outfit stinks. i would only dress them in cute stuff for going out or company. also buy bibs! i had snap on bibs (does a baby really want to sit still while you tie one?) and it saved many outfits LOL

hope all is well...keep us updated

Cheetos are orange!

My journal has been started since the day I found out and that's how I plan to tell everyone...just an email with an attachment of the journal and photos. We'll see who really reads their whole emails as I've mentioned lots of people so far!

LOL...orange! i had a craving for cheetos with my first pregnancy. ya know what...now i HATE cheetos with a passion.

here is another gem for you...start a pregnancy journal or scrapbook. take pictures of your growing tummy. keep a journal on things you feel, how you're picking a name, and so on. your child will love it later when they get older.

Bread? I can't get enough orange anything: orange juice, oranges, Tang, carrots, anything that's orange, I want it. I even prefer my water out of an ORANGE bottle rather than a plain old glass! Weird!

here is a good idea...maybe its something your dh can help with when you get to the point you cant touch your toes. i went to walmart and bought this cheap dishpan (it was under $2 or splurge on an actual foot spa) and you can buy several mini packets of spa products to put in the water. i go to fred meyers and can get them for around a dollar or buy a tin full of the scent you love. you should soak your feet every night to help you relax. eventually your feet will swell and soaking them will be a desired relief! i soak my feet then have soft socks for bed (because eventually you'll be getting up several times in the night to pee LOL) its amazing how little things make you more comfortable.

Awww Natalie, aren't you sweet? I hate to say it but I haven't been sick or indigestion-y at all! Some nausea and I can't poop or sleep and I'm tired and I can't stop blowing my nose and sniffing but I'm not sick! YAY!

Thanks everyone. For those of you who don't know me...my husband and I have been ttc for almost 4 years and were recently told by specialists that IVF was our only option and an unlikely one at that. The following week, I found out I was pregnant. We had stopped trying a couple months ago--mostly because Chris was away for work and because we knew IVF was our best bet. The real twist? Despite trying unsuccessfully for 4 years, Chris has been home for all of 13 days since the middle of October--imagine the milk man's baby rumors that are sure to surface!

my best advice now that you're pregnant...buy tums in the giant bottles from costco (more than one) & comfortable shoes you can slip on even when you cant see your feet! LOL
