You could always pour a little borax down your drains to keep the leviathans out. haha Just goes to show the writers will keep coming up with new, innovative, and strange ways of dispatching evil!

Yeah, I liked this one. A little bit of an SPN trope to have Sam walk out at the end, but if they find a reasonable way to deal with it quickly, then okay.

Borax! Well, I'm good for leviathan attack. I have a whole box for washing dishes in hard water.

Slash Fiction... Of course they wanted to mess with fans' heads by using this title! haha

A crazy smart leviathan is kinda freaky. They were inside Cas and learned some things from him, but Cas didn't know everything that guy knew, so one has to wonder how he knew that? Several bodies could give info, but dang those smart bastards! I was hoping Bobby was going to attempt the machete. It's kinda hard for any being to continue after their head is removed. Possible, of course, but not probable in the short term.

Kinda sad that they're trashing all of their rock-reference aliases. Tom and John Smith... so wrong! Good to see Sheriff Mills willing to work with Bobby and the boys. She was a little jerk-ish in the past, but glad to see her coming around. "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" - great line to toss in! haha He cuts the My Little Pony down, quotes Dirty Dancing, then lip syncs to Air Supply... is Dean getting soft, or did Lisa have an influence on him?

Is there ANYTHING better than J2 making fun of their own portrayals of Sam and Dean? Honestly a person could hurl from laughing so hard at the conversation in the diner! Then them getting in the video picture together like a couple in a photo booth... so funny!

My question: where'd the leviathans find an Impala for themselves? The boys should have stolen it! Then Dean could have the Metallicar while Sam takes the other! Totally would've been funny - and useful when Sam walks away at the end.

Both Jensen and Jared have had a chance to play opposite of themselves, now Jim has had his chance. It definitely gave us a peak into why Bobby is the way he is. Can only hope that Sheriff Mills can help soften him up a little.

Crowley just needs to always be on whatever team is winning, huh? Though how can leviathans actually help hell, and vice versa? One can only hope that Crowley is thinking he's losing out on souls whenever a leviathan eats a person, so he's attempting to figure out how to take them out himself.

Sam and Dean have split up before and come back together after a few weeks. Plus considering the preview shows them working together, apparently Sam gets over it quickly.

I agree, last nights episode was more like the episodes of the earlier seasons, lighter with more humor.........at least what I saw of it. I kept dozing off. I will have to watch it again because I know I missed a lot of it.

Tonights episode was more like I'm used to. I can't explain exactly why, but I think it was more about the battle with the monsters and how it fits the backstory. Seeing real doublemint twins was kinda fun! Plus seeing the leviathan dopplegangers make fun of Sam and Dean (aka Jared and Jensen making fun of their portrayals of Sam and Dean) was quite hilarious!

I'm going to have to watch it again to catch more about the episode, but there's my initial thoughts.

I got the 'last witness' part. Dean was ready to let Jo kill him. Even when Sam tried to convince him that Jo's death had nothing to do with him, Dean didn't seem convinced. I also wonder if he didn't want the last witness showing up because he didn't want to hurt Sam, or because he thought if Sam knew he would completely lose his mind and either attack Dean or end up in another psych ward when he became a slobbering mess from the memories.

Dean wasn't willing to let himself be judged and killed over Jo, they handled the Jo bit, that was the bit of "lawyering" I liked, how Sam found ways to make it about circumstance and not Dean. Dean was willing to do that to not burst Sam's bubble that Dean didn't actually let Sam's childhood girlfriend from the previous episode go like he said, that was that whole "last witness" part.

Interesting that he wrote the other episodes, but then again since Sera became show runner and writting less and Jeremy left the show I've been paying less attention to the writers (in s5 I could tell just from the preview if it was a Sera, Ben, or Jeremy episode or if it was someone else).

I think I like Greek mythology more than Egyptian mythology. I've read some on ancient Egyptian culture and such, but it was years ago. Now if they can pull in something to do with Atlantis my head might pop. haha

I don't really see that Dean dealt with his guilt - he never fessed up to Sam and he was willing to let himself be judged and killed to hold onto the displaced guilt over Jo. It was put in is face, sure, but even with Sam trying to help him he seemed more inclined to just allow the judgement than to fight it - snuggling tight to his guilt instead of facing and releasing it. It also seemed that Sam was doing more harm than good by playing lawyer. He got a "scary good" LSAT score (174, right?) but he fumbled everything. Sure it's been 7 years since he was prelaw, he's literally been to hell and back, and this was an Egyptian god not an actual court, but some of those lines seemed pulled from an episode of Law and Order or other ridiculous courtroom drama.

Happy Dean is implausible so we will always have brooding Dean. It's just who he is. If he ever is without guilt he'll cease to exist. Putting up a big sign in front of him saying "you're full of guilt" is like saying that water is wet. So I guess I'm confused why they needed an entire episode to point out how guilty he feels when that's how it always has been and always will be. I saw no big revelation. I saw nothing pushing him towards changing the status quo. I just see no point to the episode, beyond throwing in Osiris and giving a reason to bring back Jo for one episode.

Yeah it's difference of opinion and all, I'm just saying I don't get it. Then again I kinda liked Red Sky At Morning when consensus is it was a terrible episode. But I adore wooden sailing ships and sailing lore so...

i enjoyed it. Now, I do have a general love of Egyptian mythology and I have since I was a kid, so I immediately recognized Osiris and the scales. I liked the fact that it dealt with Dean's guilt instead of just leaving him at the end of the previous episode having killed Jewel Staite and seemingly not caring about anything. Dean's been living in this sort of self-imposed haze of indifference, so I think him being put in a position to face everything will give him some perspective and give him a way to move forward again. I also really enjoyed seeing Sam do the lawyer thing, oh so many years after he gave up that dream.

The writer wrote a bunch of episodes last season including two and a half men, which had fabulous Sam and Dean one-liners, and Mommy Dearest, which was a favorite of mine both due to the hilarity of Jefferson Starships and the intense seriousness of the boys facing their "mother" as Eve.

Well the person who wrote it isn't a name I recognize so he may be new. That could account for a disconnect in character to lines. There wasn't much dramatic action and more drawn out dialogue that didn't have the typical genious one-liners. And like I said earlier, it was a backstory episode that masquaraded as a monster episode but didn't actually push the backstory forward.

Anyone else want to weigh in?

What are everyone's thoughts for this last episode?

I wasn't quite pulled into it. It was great to see Alona Tal again and see her torn between what she's forced to do and how much she cared about the boys - Dean in particular. The whole trial thing seemed dull to me. I can't explain what about it I didn't really like, it just seemed too drawn out and relatively pointless. It seemed like a backstory episode disguised as a monster episode that didn't actually pull the backstory forward. I feel like if I had missed it I wouldn't have missed anything important.

I'm hoping someone will point out something that I missed that will help me like the episode more.

I can't tell you how often I fall asleep in front of the tv. I always fall asleep better in front of the tv than I do when laying in bed, but I tend to sleep better in bed than on my loveseat. So I miss plenty. Sometimes I watch an episode 2-3 times to catch things, but often I just start talking about one thing which leads me to think about something else, then something else... Even so, I really miss a lot - superwiki tells me so. haha

All in all, I thought it was a good episode.
Both of you are way better than me at picking up on the subtleties. I did notice that Jensen was directing.
I think too by Friday night, I am tired and sitting down to watch TV, it's all I can do to stay awake through the episode.

A few too many jump cuts and some odd choices with slowed scenes and funny camera stuff at the beginning, but it was generally okay. We're kind of spoiled on SPN because there are so many absolutely fabulous directors on the show (last week's Guy Bee is a favorite of mine lately), so I totally noticed the difference, but also, my husband is a tv/film guy, so we're a more critical household in general. Jensen's learning though, I think he'll grow into it more.

I don't consider the Bloody Valentine a plug, it's a pretty well accepted terrible movie, and I'm pretty sure it was presented as such in the show. I almost thought it was going to be Hell Hazers for a moment.

Also, Sam's track record with girls and monsters: still not good.

I don't like how it ended. I'd rather have seen Dean take his brother's advice and such on this one, and seriously, how do you just kill a small monster's mother and expect it to be alright?

In case anyone didn't know (and didn't catch it), Jensen directed tonight's episode. I think a few of the color schemes were a little strange - yes there were a lot of flashbacks but still, the cabin was too bright and the flashbacks could've been a little less orange-yellow. There were some great shots though, especially when Sam was in the woods. The symmetry of Sam having a cold soda can on his face in the flashback with Amy and in the present after Dean sucker punched him was interesting - a visual representation of the attempt to bring old Sam back. I did see peeks of season 2 Sam in there - somewhat accepting of what his life is about while attempting to still have a heart.

Though did anyone else catch that Jensen plugged his own movie from several years ago? When Dean was asleep on the couch there was a commercial playing on tv for My Bloody Valentine. I chided him for that one - it just doesn't seem right to plug your own movie in your tv show!

Dean removing his own cast with a saw - seriously I think that boy no longer cares how damaged his body is! Sam jacking the Impala - did he really think it was going to be that easy? So glad they only had us wondering what happened to Bobby for 1 week - though I'm still totally janked-off that they burnt down his house! I have to wonder if any part of the panic room survived though - it was made with iron in the basement, so perhaps. I'm also a little confused why they had Sam go into seizures and have to have an MRI plus was immobile on the stretcher... but a week later he's up and walking around like he's (physically) fine? I understand the need to separate them so Dean can have his panic moments, but really? Why not just have him knocked unconsious and leave out the seizure?

Anyone else want to share their thoughts about Jensen's 2nd episode as director?

Well, you're right about a multi-episode feel. Seems the finale, premiere, tonight, and next week are all continuous.

Wow - tonight was just a crazy episode!!! I bet Misha had a ton of fun playing the leviathans. But totally sad to see the trench coat without the mutated angel inside it! Though I still feel bad for poor Jimmy! Sheriff Mills admitting she needs help from Bobby, Sam's bloody hand, Bobby's house burnt down, Bobby missing, Dean's leg busted up so he has to call 911, Sam having siezures... Dangit Ben! You really messed with me in this episode!

Oh and the CGI guys are seriously getting good at their jobs! Those leviathan mouths are incredible!

So, now it's been a day, and I still loved it. It still feels like the middle part of a three-part episode however, and not something that can easily stand on it's own, which I'm okay with, just can't wait for the next one!

It was nice to see some good liberal values from the "new God", but I expect that from SPN based on what I know of them, and Sera wrote the episode.

Other thoughts: I loved it when Death said that he knew God and Cas was no God. I loved to see the boys working on the Impala together. I loved it when Dean said that he didn't know what to do, so he was going to work on the car, because that's exactly what he said back in season 2 in Everybody Loves A Clown after John died.

I can't wait to see what Jared does with this new Sam issue. It reminds me of season 1 and 2 Sam, where he was trying to do what he was supposed to and needed to, but there was this underlying issue of having lost his girlfriend and then father, and then having something "wrong" with him. I think Jared played those seasons beautifully, and I'm hoping for some similar underlying hell PTSD pushing just through Sam trying to be a good hunter.

This episode is a great start to my little fanfic world as well, so kudos SPN for helping me maintain my continuity without actually knowing what I'm thinking!

Things I forgot to add:

I like the new title card!

The senator's name was Michelle Walker: Michelle Bachmann is from MN (where I currently live) and Scott Walker is from WI (where I'm originally from) and let's just say I thoroughly enjoyed what happened to the character who combines those names! (superwiki caught the Michelle part but didn't mention the Walker part - I really wouldn't be surprised if I was right on where they came up with the Walker part.)

Dean pushing on the roof of the Impala with his feet... interesting. It has a weird imagry to me as when you think of someone putting their feet on the roof of a car it tends to be while two people are using the back seat and the woman puts her feet up as the man has control. Could this be an image conveying how Dean now feels - completely powerless to what is happening to them? I'm probably reading too much into it, but really if a person could pop up a roof with their feet then cars really wouldn't be that safe in a roll over and Dean, of all people, would probably know that it most likely wasn't going to work.

I absolutely yelped when Cas went after the preacher in the church and said he's indifferent to sexual orientation. I have had several gay and bi friends who are persecuted because of whom they choose to love and to have this scene happen made me incredibly happy! It's not reality, but to see it happen in SPN world was great!

In a way I thought to myself that having the opener follow directly where the finale ended allowed the timeline to get a little closer to back to normal (since the time from s5-s6 jumped a year). If they had them back-to-back then we wouldn't have had the typical major cliffhanger. So it is weird for a continuation in the SPN world, but it was kinda good to do it that way.

Yeah I agree with you about Dean - he seems defeated and depressed and you'd think he'd either completely give up or finally snap back to it and start fighting again. This hot/cold thing is a little strange. Though him drinking and watching anime porn was pretty funny.

Oh and the next episode appears to be about Sam minus walls with hallucinations of Lucifer. Hence why I think you'll like it.

Immediate show thoughts: yay brothers! Though, Dean could stand to be a bit less totally defeated. Though, depressed Dean has it's own awesomeness for me ... yeah, I'm that kind of fangirl.

Death is awesome as always, it was a decent opener, although it really felt like part of the bigger, so I kind of want this episode between the two it belongs between rather than standing on it's own.

I'll be back tomorrow with slept-on-it thoughts

OMG! That was a bit nuts. I didn't watch the preview, the husband prefers not to, but I'll catch it on the internet later. I can only imagine it's more Sammy goodness!

Are you freaking kidding me?!?! Sure, I figured they'd do more than just mention the leviathans, but COME ON! Sure, Misha just played that ending seriously amazingly, but COME ON! (I was actually hoping when he was sitting up that it would be Jimmy not Cas just because that would be awesome. haha)

So I think Melissa is going to love the next episode based on the teaser!

Seriously? 'Greatest torture?' So not cool!

Anyone else wondering if Jimmy is still hiding out watching everything Cas is doing with his meatsuit? If so, he was just crammed in a very tight spot with a lot of insane things from purgatory!

Holy krikies - lots of burnt wings... 'trenchcoat on a tortilla'... stained glass window of Cas... destroying those who are preaching against gays...

Loving it so far!

I've already read too many spoilers for the season, hehe. Still, I'm crazy excited about this whole Sam's wall is down problem, because I'm a Sam-girl, and he's so cute when he's mentally tormented!!

Tonight is the premiere of season 7! So excited!

If anyone is interested in talking about the episode as it airs, come hang out in here. If you'd rather wait until after it's over (or whenever you get a chance to watch it) come read what everyone's saying and put in your thoughts.

Anyone want to put in their ideas for what is coming in season 7 before the episode airs?

My biggest thought is that Cas is going to become a dick like the rest of the angels now that he's god. hahaha
