MARG - THEY HAVE ONE OF THOSE OLIVE OIL TASTING ROOMS HERE AT OUR MALL. I haven't ever gone in, I will have to try it one day.

I found a pretty tasty protein bar this weekend (they were selling it in the hospital gift shop) so I ordered some from amazon.... its called nuGo Slim.... they are gluten free and have like 17 g of protein.

Hink... that Red Thai Curry Shrimp sounds really good! Will have to try that one. Let's face it.... cooking is half the battle to losing weight! I too love my crockpot. I use a small one and make Steel cut Oatmeal in it. I don't do grains but missed my Oatmeal in the winter months.

While in Florida, I found an Olive Oil tasting room and my whole cooking world has opened up! They have infused oils and balsamic vinegars. The fun is mixing and matching to get the flavors you like. They are great as marinades and dressings. Google "Olive Oil Tasting Stores" in your area and go visit one!

Here is the link to the store closest to me. Check out their recipes!

Another easy option - whole roast chicken in the crock pot! I'm telling you this is the easiest thing to do and the chicken will come out nice and moist and soft, easy to eat post surgery, and really requires very little work. I season my chicken with a mix of salt pepper, garlic powder, paprika, (sometimes a touch of cinnamon)... but put whatever kind of seasoning you like. I just rub the dry seasoning all over the chicken and then put it in the crock pot on low for the whole day. Practically fool proof.

And tonight - I cut up some of the chicken breast and mixed it up with light mayo and some plain greek yogurt, a little parsley and tada - chicken salad ready to go for tomorrow's lunch.

Made a great recipe from www.bariatriceating.com tonight.... Red Thai Curry Shrimp. Yum, if you like seafood and you like spicy (I made it a bit on the mild side, I would make it spicier next time) then you would probably like this recipe! I skipped the jasmine rice and just ate the shrimp and sauce.

The protein bars sound great. I have a peanut allergy - so I like that I can choose other options in this recipe. I'll be interested to hear how these turn out.

I like your soup suggestion. I love beans and these are a great protein source.

I ended up making carrot ginger soup and then I've been adding the chicken flavored protein powder to each serving. I spiced it up with lots of ginger, tumeric and garlic! Yum.

I don't have a specific recipe, but when I think of High protein soup I would do a tomato base with ground/shredded chicken or Turkey with Black Beans. Throw in a few of your favorite veggies... cabbage comes to my mind. Flavor with some Tex-Mex seasonings and finish off with some sour cream or yogurt and some 2% cheese. ?????

Let me know what you come up with!

Do you have a favorite high protein soup recipe? I plan to make some soup for my lunches this week, and I'd love some of your ideas. I usually make my soups thick like stews. Last week I make Ratatouille with eggplant, peppers and tomatoes. I was thinking I could add tofu next time to increase the protein.

If I eat a more broth based soup, I add Unjury chicken broth protein.

Maizey.... I have been using J Robb's Eggwhite Protein. I got the unflavored and think I will order the Vanilla next time. It's not a bad flavor, just a little different and void of any flavor. So I add some Vanilla & cinnamon to it! It's good!

Thanks for the tip!

Thank you Maizey! I was going to check him out. BandedWendy loves his protein drinks. I am going to order a few samples.

I do a nutrition drink in the AM with my liquid vitamins, protein powder and Greens powder. I'm sure I can mask the texture.

Jay Robb egg protein drink mixes are soy and dairy-free. The texture is a bit "slippery" but there are pobably strategies that could offset this issue.

Or you can make it yourself ahead of time and freeze the broth in freezer tray-take out the cubes as you need them-since you won't be eating much to start with anyway-it is just the right size as an ice cube.

Unjury has the protein chicken soup in packets-try that to see if you like it.
Or make chicken soup from scratch keep salt out of the making of it. For me with my going to try and get used to the after the surgery 1st weeks it will be the packets- and also Walmart has the low sodium chicken broth packets-cheap. emoticon

Anyone have a good (preferably low sodium) recipe for chicken soup? That, and Won Ton soup! When I get sick, they are my "comfort foods." I know.. after the surgery, I won't be able to have the Won Tons, but, I rarely eat them anyway. Just love the flavor of their broth! I'm drooling thinking about it.

That's a link to the Broccoli Soup recipe I made! I add unflavored protein powder to help get my protein up. It's a great addition for early Bariatric patients stuck on full liquids and/or soft foods.

Chef Meg's Southwestern Chicken Soup is FABULOUS. Made a big pot for some of my kids college friends who visited over the holidays and all were going back for seconds. Most were also varsity athletes who were blown away by the nutritional value as well as the taste. Highly recommend!!!

This is not particularly a recipe, but I just found that Watkins makes a PEANUT BUTTER FLAVORING! I am a peanut butter addict, due for surgery in less than one week. So I am on the liquid diet and now have chocolate/peanut butter shakes. Taste great. Hope this helps somone.
I also put cinnamon, nutmeg and rum flavoring in my vanilla shakes to spice them up a bit.

I'm still in the pre-op stage, but am trying to get ready now ..... I have added protein drinks (I actually like them lol .... sometimes with frozen fruit, like a healthy shake) - and tis the season for soup and chili.

I should make some soup, but I've been lazy so far and buy them made.

Do you guys use a lot of Mrs. Dash or McCormick mixes to sprinkle on your foods for extra flavor? I actually like the chipotle on my eggs sometimes, that or dill. Also love to add the onion and herb or garlic and herb to tuna when I mix it.

My current favorite is an apple pie shake.
Put in blender:
Several ice cubes
6 oz skim milk
4 oz unsweetened applesauce
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 envelop artificial sweetener
pinch nutmeg
1/2 t cinnamon
