You can do it! I wasn't there with migraines, but cholesterol and blood pressure were taking a toll. Last check at the doctor - they were all in normal limits -probably the first time in 20 years. Spark people has helped tremendously!

I was in the ER Sunday with either a very severe Hemiplegic Migraine, or a TIA. BP was 194/99. I was upstairs trying to take a nap, since I had a headache, and had been up most of the night with our grandson, when I realized I felt very "wrong". I staggered downstairs to my husband, couldn't walk right, talk right, or make much sense, so he called 911. All the tests, including a CT scan, were normal, thank the Lord for His mercy. The ER doctor seemed sure it was just the worst migraine I've ever had; since I have history of mild hemiplegic migraines. I hope so - it scared my whole family (and me) to pieces. I see my neurologist June 15th. Either way, I REALLY need to take things seriously, especially after being in the ER with chest pain just less than a month ago.... No more procrastination with my health at all. emoticon

Good morning everyone. Hope you are all doing well.

Am finding it difficult right now to make the necessary changes in my eating - am used to having stir fry veggs and chicken with sauces such a BBQ - but due to having intestine troubles I need to go bland - and I seem to be fighting this. Am now having to work on spicing the veggs without those stir fry sauces - I know if I went to fresh veggs and fresh fruit with some chicken or fruit and a little potato my weight would drop off and down my cholesterol would go - so need to get my head in the right place to make the necessary changes a habit. The pain of eating wrong is not nice let along the pain from a back problem - so need to keep that in mind in order to be as healthy as possible.

Wanting to lost 12 pounds in the next 12 weeks - I know this is reasonable and can be done - just need to make the changes and stick with them - and when I think of how much better I will feel - well today is a good day so far - looking forward to having good days in a row.

Wondering where everyone is - haven't had any posts on this thread for a long time - and that includes me. Sorry about that - have been not feeling well and have had family (kids and grandkids) staying with us.

Needless to say it would be nice if we could all come back and get re motivated to encouraging each other here - I know it would help me.

Have had a lot of blood work done - and it came out that the worst is my cholesterol - so I need to really concentrate on that. As fresh veggs and fruit don't have cholesteral I am eating now more of those than anything else.

Making these changes is also going to do a number on my liver - which is showing up as having fatty tissue problems - which means that it is now working as it should and rather than letting me lose the weight it is holding all the fat in - soooooooo - in order to reverse this problem I need to lose 50 - 80 pounds NOW - which means lots of veggs and fruit with some chicken / turkey / fish and very little bread / pasta / rice / potatoes.

I have completed 1 week of this with a loss of 2 pounds - so am now workin on 2nd week - taking it one day at a time.

Ok team, how about you - what is your plan - how are you going to do this through the summer - would like to hear from all of you - we are 19 strong so let's step out of our comfort zone and come and encourage each other

Gosh it is so quiet in here - hopefully that means everyone is managing their cholesterol and blood pressure pretty good.

For those that are having problems - come and share with us - there might be someone that can give some helpful advise

If you are on a roll - come and share as those of us that aren't need to be encouraged

Evening everyone.

Looking over the last posts - am wondering anyone is still here - sure would like to hear from you.

Have been ill so have not been online as much as I would like - seems just get over one illness and something else pops up. Am now dealing with teeth problems. Yuck

Blood pressure is fine with the use of medications.

Cholesterol - well have to go tomorrow for another blood test - 3 months ago it was on the rise even though on meds - so have to see what is happening now. Hopefully meds are working.

Needing to get a better handle on food and exercise - have let it slip and seems hard to get back on track. Know what I should be doing but am not doing it - need to get over this hurdle and do what I know is right.

So how about the rest of you - come and share - I could do with some encouragement

Daugher, son in law and theire 2 small boys have left - glad to have them here but after 5 days of 7 of us in a 2 bedroom house with no basement - plus 2 small dogs - well you get the picture of what it could be like (the boys ages are 3 and 1)

Have bought an exercise ball that has come with 3 videos, and bands - so hubby is going to inflat the ball later today for me - and then off to the races I am with my new workout plan

Morning everyone

Must say it has been quiet in here - I know some of that is partly my fault as I have not been posting - life has gotten in the way.

At any rate am working on getting my cholesterol under control - blood pressure is not bad due to medication but cholesterol even with meds is not good so have to really work on that.

Have company for the weekend - but after they leave will be back to exercising and am hoping that that will help with the cholesterol somewhat

Looking forward to hearing from all of you - would love to hear how you are doing and what you are doing to manage your cholesterol

Morning everyone.

Have been away from the computer for about 1 week as daughter, son in law and their 2 boys have been down to visit - so Grandma is very tired.

Am now going to take some time to relook over my eating and exercise journal - haven't gained but haven't lost - so need to make some more changes

Looking forward to hearing from all of you

Glad to see this team active - it is my favorite of all my teams. I seem to have plateaued for the moment - hope not long. Blood pressure and cholesterol are doing fine with new meds. Just need to continue the weight loss. Glenda

Hello!

My husband & I both just had our physicals and luckily all my test results came back great and doctor told me to keep doing whatever it is I have been doing, but my husband found out his blood pressure is slightly high and his cholesterol is high.

Now I have to work to help him make the changes he needs to be sure he is here for years to come with me!

Good morning everyone.

Must apologize for not posting in awhile - but I have been under the weather - have had terrible chest pains and a bad bout of IBS - but things are changing and am feeling somewhat better now.

Am really having to work on getting the cholesterol numbers down - causing to much trouble with the old heart - so have gone out and bout a weeks supply of fresh veggs and fruit and am going to make that my staple food for the week.

Also found a plate that is divided into 3 - 1/2 the plate for salad and the other 1/2 is divided into 1/2 which means meat in one and potatoes in the other. Has worked well for the last 3 days - have noticed it does not allow as much food as if I was putting it on a regular plate - if interested I bought it at Walmart - is a Corelle plate.

Well must go - have a meeting to get ready for this afternoon

Hey all, I have just been diagnosed with bad hdl and already have high blood pressure. I have been watching ever thing since the doctor told me. I have lost 3 pounds already. So, I guess this is a good thing because it is pushing me to eat well, which in turn is letting me loose the weight I need to loose AGAIN! emoticon

Good morning everyone.

We had a bit of excitement here last night - our puppy (6 months old tomorrow) decided that she couldn't poop - when she did it came out like a round marble. Then she tried again but sat down - so hubby had to take her to the bathroom to remove the impacked mess and wash her up. After that she wouldn't walk - when she would stand up it looked like she was still trying to pop and down her back end would go. By this time it was 9 pm - called the animal emergency - was told to just watch her for the night that she was more than likely bunged up and to take her in this morning to the vet. She had a good sleep - didn't wake us anyway. She seems ok this morning - moving around a lot better - but am waiting for the vet to open so that we can have her checked out. This is a bummer as it is the 2nd time she has had this problem - we got her when she was 7 weeks old. We have her older brother who is 2 1/2 years old and he has never had this problem so we are hoping that she is going to outgrow it.

Hubby got home abt 6:30 am from delivering papers - he deliver over 200 of them 6 mornings of the week - so he is having a nap (gets up at 2:30 am to go and deliver these papers) and I am waiting for the worker to come and take our daughter out for the day.

Then off to the gym for me and then home to do all the laminated floors and prepare for a Bible Study I lead every Thursday night.

So a big busy day.

Good morning everyone

Well just got my daughter out the door - she will be back by 12:30 so have some things to get done before her return. But next Wednesday we have arranged for her worker to take her at 9 am and keep her till about 6pm when we plan to arrive back home = we are going to go and visit my aging mom who lives 1.5 hours away from us.

This week has not been the best for eating - or exercise - that is not good. But am aware that it has not been a good one and I know why - so now to get back focused and not let other things get in my way of getting healthy.

So happy to be here today - and glad to hear from all of you. You are all doing so well.

It is sunny out in my part of the world - finally looks like spring could be around the corner.

The past 3 weeks I have lost 3 pounds - one pound each week - so am on the right road. Doc has said because of my scare re my heart on Monday morning that I need to get the next 50 pounds of NOW - wants me to lost 1 pounds FOR SURE each week and if I can lose up to 2 pounds a week would be better - but said I really have to be serious and get off 1 pound each week in order to help my heart.

What I am looking for is some recipes for spagetti squash and butternut squash - these are new to us and am trying to find a few recipes to try as I want to start including them in our weekly food items.

Also we have 3 forums set up - we can make up one more - any ideas / suggestions for it?

Don't you just love those doctor visits when you have actually done something right!?! I have an appointment with my Dr. on Tuesday. I will have lost 36 pounds by then - 36 from the last time he saw me. He better say something nice. I, too, am charting my cholesterol. sparkpeople makes it so easy. I'll probably wait until my next visit to have blood work done but I am really feeling good; better than I have in a long time. The info on the nutrients is really helping me to form more healthful eating habits. I hope we both get good reports! Eileen

Welcome Eileen! That talking down really does help. I have learned a self talk that helps. I also just looked at all of by graphs on spark people. I didn't realize how motivating they can be. I have it tracking all nutrients including cholesterol. I only had one day that I went above my limits in the last two months!!! I go to the doctor this week. She had wanted me down 10 pounds. I have made it 15 as of today. Hope she likes what she sees!!

Hi! I'm Eileen - 62, 253 pounds down from 288. High blood pressure, high cholesterol. I know panic attacks! I have mild asthma and that can trigger an attack, though it isn't the only thing. My daughter is a psychologist and she has helped me a lot. My whole family knows how to "talk me down" BP can skyrocket during a panic attack so it is important to learn how to deal. I'll be glad to share, if it will help.

Today i ate pretty good, ran/walked for 30min but think i over did it because i stressed that it took my heart so long to go back to normal.

Stopping by to say hi.

Feeling somewhat better - but again this morning while going to Walmart the heart did a thing - I am sure it is all stress realted because as I sat quietly it calmed down

But today is my weigh in day - down another pound. That makes 3 pounds lost in 3 weeks.

And today I was able to walk 2 miles on the treadmill so makes me feel good.

But am tired - daughter is out with her worker, hubby has gone to have a nap and I think I might have one now also.

Tonight I lead a First Place 4 Health group - 3 of us - so want to be 'fresh' for it.

I was also on lipitor and started to get the leg cramps. Have done well on crestor. At one point my total was over 400. The doctor asked me how long I wanted to live. All numbers are in the normal range with just 10 mg of crestor, however I really try to watch what I eat. Thanks for the reply. This is the first team that has replyed and welcomed like you have. Good luck! I think I just found the right team!! Glenda

Glad to have you with us Glabarbera

I was on liptor of cholesterol for 2 years but started to have leg cramps and doc thought it could be side effect. So am now on Crestor. Mine is still going up so have been given 3 months to get it to reverse by changing my food / daily exercise/ help with crestor. If it is still where it is now or higher I will need a stronger dose - and that I don't want.

Hi. I am brand new to this team. Have had cholesterol issues for some time - good numbers now with crestor. This week was put on meds for high blood pressure. Slowly looking better. Would like to eventually get off some meds - doctor thinks losing weight would help. Have lost 12 pounds in January and still plugging away.

Gosh I feel all alone in here - there are 3 of us but seems I am the only one posting.

Hopefully the rest of you will start posting and sharing recipes or food ideas / ups and downs on getting the cholesterol under control - that is the reason for the group

Good morning.

Feeling good - got up at 6:30 am and was at the gym by 7 am - did the treadmill for 46 minutes burning 250 calories and walking 1.76 miles

Had oatmeal with flax seed for breakfast, having soup for lunch and my favorite for supper - grilled chicken.

Have a good day - - -

Good evening everyone.

Glad to hear from you today - hope you are having a good evening and have held to a good healthy eating plan today as well as getting in some exercise.

Hubby and I are recommiting to go to the Y again - we have been hit and missing for some time now. He gets up at 2:45 each morning to go deliver newspapers and returns home about 6:30 - 7:00 am - so we are now going to (as of tomorrow) go to the Y between 7 and 7:30 am to get in 45 - 1 hour - then we know it is done and can get on with the rest of the daily things in our life. Start the day of on the right foot -

Have been doing pretty good this week re food - eating more veggs this week - making it a habit of getting in 1.5 - 2 cups of veggs every day - have them all cup up and in a zip lock back the night before so no excuse.

Also working on getting in the water - drink Crystal Lite but want to get in just plain water - so am working on that also.

My weigh in is Thursday - so am looking forward to seeing some weight off - last week I had lost 1 pound so to maintain that loss and to lose some more would be great.

Hi, everyone. Am trying to lower my cholesterol just through diet and exercise. Last test was right about 200 I think, but my HDL is good so my ratio is ok. Still...room for improvement!! As for the spaghetti squash, I just steam it in the microwave, shread it with a fork, spray a little I Can't Believe It's Not butter and some Mrs. Dash and pepper on it, and yummmmm! Hoping to share thoughts with you all daily. I need the support! emoticon

Good morning / afternoon

Overcast in my part of the world. But still am glad to be alive.

Have had a few good days so far as far as cholesterol - and plan on having many more. Making those small changes each day do add up.

And with making the changes my weight should start moving again - looking for 5 more pounds to leave my body - and when it does I will be so happy as it will mean 40 pounds gone - but am having to work on it re food and exercise

So how is your day going

We use olive oil, don't use butter on things such as bread / toast. Have been staying away from sweets which has helped. Also have increased fresh veggs and am reading more of the labels re dressings.

Red meat doesn't agree with me - more so hamburger. We buy enough 'meat' for one month at a time - filling up the freezer with chicken / turkey breasts / fish with a few beef roasts.

When making spaghetti am working on more veggy sauces - put the veggs into the blender to make them smooth, then blend up tomatoes and put them all together with spices and freeze them in 2 cups per freezer bags - works quite well.

For the next 3 months will be working on more fresh veggs / fruits / lots of water / chicken and of course min. of 30 minutes of exercise per day. Actually with the exercise I am up to 45 minutes 6 days of the week.

If you have any favorite recipes - lunches / suppers please share - always looking for a new one.

Actually am looking at a good way to cook spaghetti squash - we are not squash eaters but I have read that they are very good in many ways for us - so we bought one on Friday and want to cook it in the next day or so - so if you have a good recipe for it please share

Good morning / afternoon.

Sherri - glad to have you here.

I take ramipril for my blood pressure and it pretty much keeps it where it should be. I was on liptor for the cholesterol for 2 years but then started to develop leg and feet cramps which could be a side effect of that med so doc has changed me to crestor. So far so good. But from the blood tests it is showing that over the last 18 months rather than the numbers going down it has started to go up.

So doc has asked me to work very hard for the next 3 months on proper eating and lots of exercise along with the meds. Then we will do the blood test again - if it is going down great, if not the meds will need to be increased.

So how about sharing what a day of food looks like for you - this would give great tips on low cholesterol meals.
