I have never had it with my voice and have never seen anyone where ET has caused issues with the voice altho' I am aware that it can. I have, however, seen Parkinson's affect the voice and swallowing.

I kinda suspect that for you, it may be that stress is a driving factor with your tremors. It would be a stressful job, and so is quite likely a precipitator of your tremors. Relaxation exercises and/or a Therapist can help deal with this.

I ended up having another appt with my neurologists, because of the meds he has me on, my primary physican rather the nuro deal with me. Long story short i have low blood pressure so besides the premodone I am also on clonazepam. My tremors are/were getting worst. between stress and the fact that I was under taking my meds we are having to up everything again. I really am not liking that part. but right now it is the only thing that keeps me from having to quit my job. I schedule appts for a hospital and do alot of typing so when the hands get going i have to take a break.

does anyone on here have the issues with their voice? I am just courious what i might expect if and when that happens. My tremmors are mainly in my head and I fear that is the next thing.

Sometimes Anti-seizure medications are prescribed to help with this, but not everyone can take them. I couldn't take any of the meds offered because they could have been quite detrimental to my health - as in cause me to kick the bucket. As a result I had acupuncture. Learning good relaxation techniques help a lot, and if you suffer from depression, which is quite common after strokes and having other chronic health issues, it is best to treat this, too!

I understand your comment about holding your head down. When I had the discs removed from my neck I was told I shouldn't extend my arms out in front of me (no typing, no computers, almost eliminated reading). I decided, after much experimentation, that I can do all of the above - just for short periods. If my neck hurts I stretch those muscles/tendons then use damp heat to relax the muscles - works every time. I imagine the knitting will be the same - for short periods, then stretch your neck muscles and perhaps damp heat.
Kris is right, stress is the enemy of ET. It's hard to eliminate it, but do your best.

I had been in psychical therapy a while back, for the sciatica and the best thing he gave me was to stand beside the wall arms length out. (arm on the wall) and push your hip over to the wall while your arm is straight. also try to strengthen your gluts core and back.

My stress level is starting to fall just had to find another outlet other than my knitting. or hold it up higher so not to extend my neck down. Thanks to everyone that has commented and ask about me. I am feeling better about this little hiccup in my life

that holding things out is an important part of diagnosis - it doesn't indicate that it is worse, just that it is ET.

I'm glad that you have an official diagnosis - that in itself would be a huge weight off your mind, I should imagine.

Ensure that you learn some good relaxation techniques because this will significantly help reduce any tremors - stress (even if you don't realize you may be stressed) can actually aggravate the tremor.

What did he suggest for the sciatica? Mine is with me constantly and sometimes really bad.

So glad you got a diagnosis. Now you know where you are and you can stop imagining horror stories.

My experience tells me that ET symptoms worsen when I am hungry. If you are trying to lose weight, you should eat something small and healthy (protein preferably) every two hours anyway so that should help. The other thing I find is that if the hand/arm is in stress, as in writing, it will be worse. You will learn to recognize the things that cause you problems, and in some cases how to lessen the symptoms.

Keep in touch.

Visit was great. Yes Essential Tremors, and worst when i hold things out. meds i am on are where i should be. He also noticed that my sciatica is starting to affect my right ankle and that was noted. He gave me some good tips on both and told me to follow up with primary care doc unless things get worst.

Just knowing all this makes me feel more at ease and although there is no telling if it will get worst or stay the same just that it is documented is reassuring.

I agree with you Kris. I have had 2 discs removed from my neck from a fall. They did not cause ET. I have disintegrating discs in my lower back (L1 thru L5) which cause pain on a continuing basis as you described, but that too does not cause ET.

I am glad to hear that she is seeing a neurologist. Perhaps now she will get a real diagnosis, and she can stop guessing. When we guess we almost always imagine it worse than it really is.

In my unqualified opinion, the spinal issues you described would NOT affect the head (or arms/hands) What you described with your spine COULD, however, cause significant lower back pain, and also possibly hip pain - and/or pain radiating down one leg (as in sciatica).

the original doc gave me the diagnosis with no xrays or anything, just asked if anyone in my family had it. mine also started with the head (the no-no) and not with my hands. the first time i had this issue was after i broke my coccox about 7 years ago and now i have issues with slipped disk in my lower back.

Is it YOU thinking it could be from the spinal injury or that Dr?

Spinal injuries will affect in different ways, depending on where in the spine the injury is/was, and what type of injury. Lower spine injuries won't affect the hand/arm, but pressure at the very top, could possibly. I would imagine that the Dr in the Hospital had done x-rays? If so then I would imagine they would have been able to see then if it was more likely injury related.

Good luck with the outcome, and let us know how you get on!
