I work two jobs and it catches up with me every now and then. I do editorial work in the daytime and work at my local Y at night. I teach water aerobics and parent/child swim classes. I did a lot of extra parent/child classes all summer, and my day job has been very busy, too.

(I swim on my own just about every day and sometimes I work out on land in their Wellness Center.)

My goodness, I hope you feel better soon.

Rest is good, especially when you work a lot, and swimming is great exercise. I haven't been to the gym once this week! I got sick with a cold on the 15th of August, took antibiotics, got a little better, then got worse starting Monday of this week. Now I'm coughing my lungs out, trying to figure out how I've been sick for over half a month now. I moved into a new apartment a month ago and am starting to worry that there may be household mold hiding somewhere. I never get sick like this. I went walking outside yesterday for a hour and, after weighing the pros and cons, decided to jog for a good portion of it. I coughed for hours after. Bad idea! lol What are your exercise plans for this weekend? I'm trying to figure out if I should just lay low and try to eat healthy (if that's possible haha...) or just some light walking. Hope everything is going well for you today!

Thanks for checking in, ZOEYZORE. Parts of the weekend went great, but other parts not so much. I have problems with lack of structure, and I allowed myself to get way off track for parts of the long weekend. I also don't do as well when it is hot and humid. I had a very different routine on Friday that threw off my meals and exercise plan. (Didn't get my before-work walk, had a frantic morning at work, followed by a very late lunch due to dentist appointment, then bad traffic and anticipated crowds in the pool tempted me to skip my swim and procrastinate on my grocery trip for healthy food choices.)

I got quite a bit of extra exercise on Saturday (early morning swim to make up for Friday, then lots of walking and chasing a toddler), but also ate more carbs than I intended at a gathering with friends. I got some extra much-needed rest Sunday and Monday, but also got a case of the lazies because my Y was closed for renovations. I'd planned to do long walks instead, but it was miserably humid and I kept putting it off. I finally got to the grocery store Monday.

Oh well, I'll do better this coming weekend!

How'd you do this past weekend?

I did okay Friday night and got the boyfriend to go jogging with me Saturday morning. (It was super hot!) I played a kinect dance game Sunday but probably ate way too much since we grilled and I'm a sucker for grilled food. Whoops

That article about buffets was helpful. I'll save it to reread before I go to a potluck next weekend! Thanks again!

Not really anything exciting. Alabama football starts Saturday so everyone is in an uproar about that. Probably just going to watch the game with some friends. :) Oh, and try to get some exercise minutes in, of course!

Thanks, ZOEYZORE. Besides restaurant buffets, pot luck dinners at various meetings and get-togethers are a big temptation. "In control" would be a great feeling. I take some steps to be in control (have a healthy snack before I get there, drink a big glass of water, etc.) but when faced with the yummy stuff, I end up overeating. Sigh. I'll check out the article, thank you!

No exciting plans for me this weekend. How about you?

I hear ya, WHYNOTJ1. Buffets are definitely the hardest for me. I feel like I always need to get my moneys worth and all of my friends make multiple trips to the bar, why shouldn't I? Of course, I always feel like crap when we're leaving. I tend to avoid situations, especially during the week, where my friends are eating out and I am trying to "be good."

We shouldn't feel like we have to avoid these situations though. If we can take small steps to change the way we eat when we do eat out, we'll feel completely in control. I hate feeling like I have to give up something completely in order to lose weight. Everything in moderation. :)

This article is pretty decent as far as the tips it gives regarding buffet eating.

I do fine with exercising on the weekends, but have trouble with the lack of structure/routine on weekends, especially around meals. I have been known to avoid socializing because I was afraid of overeating at a buffet--too many temptations after being "good" all week. I'm trying to find ways to maintain control over what I eat and still see my friends and spend quality time doing spontaneous things with partner, etc.

We're all here for the same reason. Weekends are tough, right?! I work a M-F job and being off work makes it difficult for me to resist those fun nights out with friends and dinner with family, and I believe it's important to do things that make you happy and allow you to unwind.

Tell me about your goal. What would you like to accomplish most on the weekends?
Is it the lack of exercise that has you bummed?
Are you hoping to make healthier choices at restaurants?
Do you want to eat the things you want, but have trouble with portion sizing?

I struggle with all of the above, and I know I'm not the only one who needs a little motivation and support. How about each week, we set a goal for one small thing we'd like to accomplish this weekend. Share it with everyone and we'll hold each other to it and offer moral support!

My goal for this weekend (8/30/13) is to incorporate at least 30 minutes of physical activity into each day, and make one healthy substitution for any meal I may eat at a restaurant (ex: order a side salad or fruit bowl instead of fries). This may seem easy to most of you, but it is def a challenge for me! What is your goal? :)
