I need to re-think my portion size and calorie intake, I think Im going to set up a food menu for the whole weekend and stick to it without any side trips to the fridge.

Hi Weekend Warriors! Friday is upon us and that means our first weekend in this weekend challenge is almost here!! I'm actually pretty excited!!

So far, I think I have gained some momentum this week... despite a horrendus last weekend with some major binge eating (stress, emotions, blah blah), I am back on a good streak. I reset all my goals in SP (wich meant I had to go in and enter my new starting weight which is 3 lbs more than that what I had emoticon ) and so have given myself a new 6 week challenge. Six weeks of staying in calorie range - will allow the upper end, but must be in range! I am taking it one day at a time and so far so good... I had two major temptation days (yes, they happen even on non-weekend days!!) and made good choices.

Exercise which is my strong point has been great, have run twice, done spin class once, and kickboxing the other day... am gearing up for a good run in the morning. If I could just keep the exercise discipline in my eating, I would have reached my goal about two months ago!!!

By the way, my two cents on the HR monitors - they are a MUST if you really want to know how many cals you are burning and how hard you are working. It is SOOOOOO worth it. No fooling yourself on how hard you are working and it is really rewarding to see the calorie burned total at the end. The days I run I usually get around 600-650 and that feels really good to see!!

This zumba thing sounds great - I need to check into it in my area

A thought for the weekend ahead: Think of how great you feel when you have met your goals for the day, and how bad you feel when you ignored your goals (ie skipped the workout or did too much eating). Now if we can jut hold onto that good feeling of achievment and accomplishment when we stay on track, then maybe skipping the cookies and cake won't feel like as much of a deprivation. This is what I need to keep reminding myself when it comes to the food (sweets!) - it may taste good now, but I'll feel crappy about it later!

The key to success is not perfection, but perseverance

If you are taking regular classes (or doing the videos) then yes...I have definitely had class participants lose major weight! The average class does burn about 550 calories per hour! So that is great! The more important thing is that we have lots of fun...dancing and shaking our bon bons!!

Check out the website: www.zumba.com

NMC -- tell me about this 'Zumba' -- is it as much fun and as good for you as the commercial says? They had high claims of fast weight loss, and I didn't believe it.

Congrats!!!! They say a big motivation of getting in your exercise is trying to visualize that great feeling you have when you're done. If you don't get around to your exercise tonight ( I know I would likely bag after so much fun!) just think about what an awesome weekend you are going to have!!

as for my doo-dad, It's a polar heart monitor. It's kind of geeky, but it's a watch with a little chest band, that you can set to measure your heart rate and tell you how many calories you have burned.

My sister got a sweet little pink one...mine is red, but it's a little larger than hers...hers is cute.

Go check it out on amazon or do a google search. They really help, especially if SP is telling you to burn a certain number of calories with cardio each day...this way...you know for sure!

Congratulations on your weight loss, that's awesome! As far as last night- YES, i did get off my duff and burn some calories and I feel so much better :) I have a bridal shower tonight for dinner, so even though I wont get home until about 9:30 I am still aiming to squeeze a quick work-out in.

BTW what is a polar do-dad that tells you your calorie burn? And where can I get me some of that!!

GOOD LUCK TODAY EVERYONE- STICK TO YOUR GOALS ONE MORE DAY!!!!

chat later,
Jenn

Hey Ms. Jenny -

How did you do last night? Did you succomb to the tv gods?

I was good...I think. I'll find out when I confess my sins to the almighty nutrition tracker in a moment.

But I did teach an aerobics class during lunch yesterday...burned 570 calories...thanks to my handy dandy polar monitor..AND..stayed after football practice last night and ran a few laps around the football field with another mom and our sons...burned only 67 calories doing that...that's barely an apple!

Zumba's way more fun!

Any exercise still counts!! Like NMCELRATH said, just squeeze in what you can when you can even if it's just five minutes! Cause you do that 4x in a day that's 20mins right there and it didn't seem like work or that much extra outta you're day!

Exercise I'm alright at...eating's my problem...I'm always going so I'm always so tired....

Ok--I came home from work, made my dinner (brown rice and beans and an ear of corn) and sat down on the couch to watch Weeds. I got lazy, but when I came online to record my calories, I saw all the messages of support and felt like a schlump...so I did a 15 minute mile walking video and then Kathy Smith weight tape (upper body only) and some core stuff on the stability ball. If I had not read all the posts, I wouldn't have done it. Thanks everyone!

nmcelrath- Excellent leadership!
I am glad to be in a challenge that seems to be composed of people really involved in sparkpeople. It will be a lot easier to stay on track when I know i have to check back and be accountable to people who are actually paying attention!! :) uh, oh!- I suppose I better stop looking over at the newly placed candy dish on my co-worker's desk. How nice of her to set a wonderful array of tasty bite-sized treats out for me to sample. I think I will have to set up a wall of of work folders to block my view, after all I have already fallen victime to 3 small bit-o-honey treats. They practically walked themselves over here to my desk!
Anyway- still trying to get my water count in, so tip em' back everyone!! emoticon

I walked a little at lunchtime to the grocery store, so that is 20 minutes in the right direction! I will try to go to the gym tonight -- my ex will have the children, so there should not be any problem. It just means that I have to work out everyday for the rest of the week, including the weekend challenge.

I love House!! He's so Bad...he's good!

What's on your agenda for today? Whatever it is...see if you can throw in just 10-15 minutes more...that's nothing....keep doing that for the rest of the week...and you'll be fine!

I know sometimes I feel like if I don't do exercise in some half four increment, it's worthless...but it's not. Use your fitness tracker to show you how much those little 10/15 minutes can do for you!

Hope this helps!

I've had a horrible beginning of the week too! I was in the gym on Monday, just walked in, heading toward the recline bike, when my daughter called and said her rehearsal was out 2 hours early and I had to drive two towns over to pick her up! I was so frustrated with all the driving that I lost all motivation to exercise. And yesterday, after work I went home, put on my exercise clothes again, went to my mom's to drop my kids off so I could go to the gym and lo and behold, no one was there. So instead of them having dinner with mom while I worked out, I had to take them out to dinner (My bad, I have not gone grocery shopping yet this week) and not only did I not exercise, I ate too much dinner too. Then tv (House, my favorite show.) I'm having motivational issues. Help!!!!

TOM is an A#$!!! But we all go through it...so don't beat yourself up. I am sure you will have a great time tonight. Exercise - Check! and fun to boot!! That's the importnat part. Making exercise an enjoyable thing seems so obvious but yet we as adults rarely can see it that way...just a couple of weeks ago I was complaining about needing to exercise and my too-smart-for-his-own-good oldest son looked at me like I was a complete dork and said "Why don't you just go out and play?"

I was dumbfounded!!! I had absolutely no response...so I pinched him and we did!

None of us wants to be healthy so we can be miserable...we all want to be healthy so we can be happy...right?!?!?

So why not start now?!?!!!

Can I get an AMEN?!!!!

Welcome to our latest Warriors!

This will be fun! It will be like health bootcamp on the weekends...the goal is to earn as many sparkpoints as you can on the weekends...even if you want to read some articles to earn some points or chat on the boards....at least you are back in your healthy mind during the weekend...instead of treating your weekend like a full on vacation...and likely ruining all your hard work and positive changes during the week.

HOOYAAA Warriors - welcome!

Oh I am sure we can hold you accountable for those exercise points....that is unfortunate that your company doesn't perticipate in the fitness points..regardless we are all glad to have you on your board...

and just to show you all what kind of geek is leading this brigade I was thinking of a fun twist:

Each Monday when we report in, we can call out as either:

Destroyer or Warrior

That is what we have been and hopefully are, right?!?!

NMCELRATH - Thanks for the clarification!! I may not look as good as far SP Points b/c I don't actually get to use the fitness part of SP (my company has a deal where we use SP for free, but not the fitness portion), so doesn't look like I'll actually get any formal points for the exercise that I do on the weekends (and actually do!), but I can certainly keep tracking the calories, water, logging in, etc. Also, I think more importantly I can come here and just note what I did/did not do and have an accountability point with this team challenge which I think will help.

I have got to stop what is becoming a yucky pattern of over-eating on the weekends!!

Thanks Weekend Warriors!

Hello everyone! I am new to spark and was looking for a team to join. This weekend idea would be perfect for me because I always fall of the proverbial wagon on the weekend.

Hi all, I just joined as well! This challenge is such a great idea!

WALKERMI, I do the exact same thing! I have been eating healthy and working out for almost a month and half now and I weigh 1 pound less than the day I started bc I apparently go butt-crazy on the weekends and undo all of my hard work during the week.

Hopefully this will be the extra push I needed...

Mind over fatter.

Hey Smartgirl...great name. Here's my post from before: GOOD LUCK!!!

Here's the plan:

Throughout the weekends...you must log on and get as many sparkpoints as you can...by updating your nutrition journal...your fitness journal (of course that means we have to actually do some exercises...which I understand some of you don't struggle with...but others (like myself) just need to make it a priority on the weekends...so we're drinking our water, checking in, confessing our calories and doing stuff...on the weekends.

We can start a new "topic" for each weekend and everyone can share what they achieved.

That way we can also kind of start fresh each weekend too...BONUS!

What does everyone think of this approach??

I'm in!!!! Like Jemma, I am really good on exercising over the weekend and so BAD about eating. I find a weekend of slips takes away all the calories I cut during the week and as a result I have not lost weight all summer :(

Also, I have that whole bored snacking thing, too although it is the weekend events like parties, dinners, showers, etc. that just kill me. I got to an event and I just lose all sense of control when I see the food...uuugh.

Ok, so I'm a dork and need a little more guidance on this whole reporting weekend Spark Points on Monday's...

YAY team!

You can compete as individuals or teams. The goal of this challenge is to give the same level of effort and focus towards reaching your fitness goals ON THE WEEKENDS...as you do during the week.

SO...you must check in on the weekends and report your WEEKEND SPARKPOINTS on Monday morning.

To be fair...we will only count Saturdays and Sundays...Friday nights is up to your discretion...we won't count it.

But this is not about inches or pounds lost...we all have different goals...it is about tracking your meals, updating (and doing) some exercise...and getting the Sparkpoints you Deserve!!!!!

ARE YOU READY?!?!?!?

Don''t be afraid to SHAKE THINGS UP!!! Let''s ZUMBA!
