Please go, swimming is such good exercise that those 8 lbs you are waiting to lose will go quicker. Taking the plunge again after so long is bound to be scary BUT in the words of Susan Jeffers, "Feel the fear and do it anyway" I am sure that once you go you will wonder why you put it off so long emoticon

Thank you both so much for your comments. I will get in there within the next 2 months, but it's getting the courage to do it is my problem. I'll have a look at the sparkpage you mentioned!

Thank you both again

It's better to try, fall, and get back up again, than never to try at all.

Most of you is hidden by the water. I went swimming at 18 stone and 5' tall and I wasn't the largest woman there. Is there anyone who can go with you? And remember it doesn't matter how fast or slow you swim, an hour of exercise is still an hour of exercise. I've always found that if you start talking to people, or even just say hello, they will respond, and you soon get to know the other regulars.

Think not. Do.

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

first if you are so self concious i would find out if your local baths have a womens only swimming time it might take some of the self conciousness away .most swimming baths do that theese days.i would also suggest you go along and watch the first time you might be surprized at what shapes and sizes go swimming now adays.people are so busy doing there own things theese days that people probably wont even notice you are there.also a good starting point is to see if there are any aqua aerobics courses it is a great way to exercise without the strain on your joints.re what to wear they do some nice one piece swimsuits theese days in alsorts of sizes.i personally like the ones with the little skaterr skirts as i call them 6that hides the tope of the thighs.some swimsuits also have like a corsort in them but i wouldn´t recomend them as they are not very comfortable and you feel self concious enough wothout that even though you have no reason to be self concious.some swimming baths will also let you wear a t shirt and biker shorts over your swimming costumn.it cost nothing to ask if this is allowed in your local.by us here it is not allowed but by my sister where she lives it is allowed.check out also a fellow sparkers page.dawnwaters, she is overweight and teaches aqua aerobics and i personally think she looks fantastic in her swimming costuimns.check out her photos.hope this helps and in the words of nike.just do it.

Hi all,

I’m about to start swimming again for the first time in 7 years, and I’m just wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I’ve wanted to start swimming back in January 2011 when I started SP, but as I was so big, I kept saying, “Oh I’ll do it when I get down to 18st”. This is especially because I had/have no confidence. I’m now 8lbs from 18st, but I think I’m going to wait until I have lost another stone, as my confidence isn’t quite there yet. But I still would like some tips/hints, as it’s been so long! I know it’s a strange thing to ask, but it’s been playing on my mind for a while!

Thanks Everyone in Advance!

Kat x
