"Biter Bit" is back from the proofreader (thanks Fee) so I'm just going to look through and set it up, and then it can be published. Meanwhile progress is being made on "The Beastly Prince" and my eyes are going crossed looking though Shutterstock pictures for something I can use on the cover.

Practice nurse has done a blood test to see what my 3-month average is. She says we might not need to change my medication any more if that comes back good.

Very glad to hear you're feeling much better.

Had a lovely Skype with my cousins in Liverpool yesterday afternoon. I always feel on top of the world after those Skypes.

Fitness for today is just going to be dog walking as a rest from the long run yesterday.

Hope everyone has a good day today!

I stopped doing the injection Wednesday and feel a lot better. It wasn't even helping my blood sugar levels anyway.

Well done on the running.

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well, Doreen. Did the change in meds help?

I'm feeling a bit proud of myself today. I ran 5.5 miles this morning with my friend. Must admit to being a little stiff after it, but it's on track for my next half marathon in November.

We've had a call from the electrician in France with a quote, which isn't too bad. Also he knows someone who installs satellite tv and broadband, and another who does paving for patios etc. The back used to have stones, but of course the grass and weeds grow up over them, so paving seems more practical, and will save Richard from having to hack away the brambles when we arrive. It used to be worse when the only toilet was outside: we'd arrive at 10 pm desperate to go, and we'd have to run the gauntlet of the thorns. And today I got a message that our builder had collected the tiles and wanted to know how we wanted the decorative ones placed. Things are moving.

Think not. Do.

Sounds lovely!

It's supposed to be a bank holiday here today, but I seem to have spent most of my day working. I did stop to walk the pups this morning, though, and made another couple of cherry pies to use up the cherries from our tree.

I think I'll call it a day, now, and just relax. We're supposed to meet our friends for a hot dog in a couple of hours. I'll either jump on the Elliptical before we leave (this would be ideal) or I may Skype with our DS and leave the Elliptical until later, since he's an hour later than us.

Hope everyone is having a productive day!

Cheers,
Marg.

It's in Normandy, only about an hour from the ferry at Caen/Ouistreham, on the edge of the Suisse Normande.

Believe it or not, it's nowhere near the worst holiday I've ever had.

LOL! Sounds like one of our holidays - everything that can go wrong usually does. Where in France is your house (just curious about the general area - i.e. north, south, on the Mediterranean coast; it's probably not a good idea to answer too specifically online)?
emoticon

It's much cooler here than it has been over the past few weeks, so I did fairly well on my 2.5 mile training run this morning. (Lately, the heat and humidity have just made my legs feel like concrete blocks.) Then, we took the pups for another 1 mile walk. So, I've definitely gotten my exercise in today.

Yesterday, I was fairly proud of myself - I was super tired after work and wanted to do nothing but snooze. I convinced myself to get on the Elliptical for 30 minutes instead, though.

It's been some time, but I seem to FINALLY be getting both my exercise and my eating under better control. I'm already seeing the difference in my clothes; so, maybe I'm back on track.

Cheers,
Marg.

We've just got back from 3 weeks at our house in France. We finally have some money saved so we can have renovations done - I'm happy to say that we now have an indoor toilet, bath and shower, and hot water. We've replaced the washing machine (it washed the floor every time we used it) and bought a dishwasher. Finalised the sale of a bit of land at the end of the property, which saves us having to get the brambles seen to. Ordered tiles for the bathroom walls; it seems that you always end up having to order things. Tried to pick them up when it said on the docket they should be in, ran into the Angry Peasant demonstration. They had closed off certain junctions on the ring road round Caen, so we ended up having to go through the centre of the city. We couldn't even turn round and come back, as they'd closed off that exit from the roundabout too. Thank heaven for satnav. Then the tiles weren't in. Came back to 1040 unread e-mails, so we are having satellite tv and broadband put on for next time. If we had only known from the news we wouldn't have bothered going in the first place for the tiles.

We have found an electrician though. He can't come till September, but at least he can come.

Oh, and Richard didn't put my suitcase in the car, so I had to buy new underwear in the supermarket and wear his T shirts.

Think not. Do.

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Hello all:

First - a big thanks to SoulBiker who has "guilted" me into getting back on our team forum. Much appreciated!! emoticon

It's been completely bonkers around here since the beginning of the year. Our Rhys graduated from Engineering in the spring, so it was "full steam ahead" with creating CVs and applying for jobs every night since January. The good news is that he was offered a FABULOUS position with General Motors in the U.S. before he'd even written his last exam.

However, the craziness REALLY started then, as we tried to give him as much help as possible moving down there and getting his work visa. I won't go into the whole, long story (no-one has that kind of time); but let's just say "stressful" doesn't even scratch the surface. To give you an idea, we managed to get his work visa on Friday afternoon before he started work on Monday. I've traveled out there three times in May and June alone. He's finally settled in, though, and DH and I are officially empty-nesters.

Needless to say, I wasn't thinking the least bit about diet, and injury after injury made running a nightmare; but I'm back on the wagon and injury free as of this week. I'm on track with my training for my next Half Marathon in November, and I'm getting the evening snacking under control.

Glad to see there's a little more life on our team. Let's keep it up!!

Marg

We've been looking at myths and fairy stories in our writing class, and I did a reworking of Beauty and the Beast - I always thought he was nicer as the Beast, the Handsome Prince seemed very bland to me, so my Beauty has him changed back again. Now we have to do a Mythic Birth Scene with Portents. I've got quite excited about my idea, which once again is a bit subversive.

We're off around the 2nd July and back the 24th, though we'll probably stay a day or so with our sons en route. So we'll both have our birthday over there. Fares go up the following week when the summer rush starts.

Just coming up to the end of another two modules in my Creative Writing certificate with Aberystwyth Uni. I'm getting the end of course work in early because we are planning on going over to France straight after, while the ferry crossing is still cheap. The house in France now has indoor plumbing - woo hoo! - but not sure whether the immersion will be connected to the electricity yet. The electrician we had a line on has gone back to England for good. Still, an indoor toilet. That flushes.

Think not. Do.

Daughter has just published her first book, a novella entitled Away With The Fairies - under her full name Felicity Knight. It's a comic fantasy, should be live on Amazon in a few hours, and it's free.

We're still not well. Richard phoned Monday for an appointment to see his doctor again and was told to call back again Wednesday and they might be able to fit him in on Friday, so that's what he's done. He did get a full niight's sleep last night without waking up with a coughing fit, but he's been coughing like my grandfather used to. I'm still very wheezy too. Our baby grandson also is coughing and wheezing, but the doctor reckons obviously it's a virus as he said there's nothing he can give him. Fee is doing another on-line grocery order for us and is also having to cope with the children all on her own when her husband is at work. Usually we'd be there helping, but I don't think Richard is fit to drive apart from anything else.

Think not. Do.

Sorry to hear you haven't been well, Doreen. I hope you're both better now.

Also sorry for the late reply - it's been completely insane around here ever since we got back from the race. I don't understand how you can be away from work for three business days and come back to two weeks' worth of work!

It's been bitterly cold around here for the past week, with temperatures getting down close to -30 C. I feel so sorry for the dogs, as their walking has been hit and miss. We tried to walk them yesterday without the boots (which they hate), but we only made it about a quarter of a mile and had to turn back because they were both starting to limp.

Not been well since we got back from our break. Got over the tummy bug quite quickly, and after all that eating out I thought not eating anything for 36 hrs was not a bad thing althogether. Since then though we've both got some sort of chest infection, and Richard actually admits to being ill which is unlike him.

Sounds as if you had a great time - yes, do it again.

We're just back from a short break with daughter and her family at Longleat Center Parc. We had a great time although we fitted in too much really - it was Monday to Friday, and we had: a spa and treatment afternoon for me and Fee followed by the lakeside firework display; a day at the pool with everyone plus one son in for a day and couple of nights (we put him on the guest list for the spare bed) a trip with said son to see Richard's Dad, dropping Andy off for his afternoon shift and seeing other son, then into Salisbury for Pizza Express, the switching on of the Christmas lights and another firework display. Even waking up on Friday with a tummy bug couldn't spoil it.

Good job I got my word count in before we went away, as I didn't have time to think about anything else.

Think not. Do.

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Great to hear you came in early with your novel, Doreen! You must feel so proud of yourself! emoticon

Just got back from the Formula One race in Austin, Texas. My cousin and his wife (from the Conwy Valley) arranged to meet us there. What a FABULOUS time we had! I haven't laughed that much in ages. Proud to say I also got in a load of exercise and did not overeat while I was away (travelling is one of my "danger" areas as far as that's concerned).

They want us to meet them again for another race next year, so I'm bound and determined to be at goal weight by the time that comes about.

Had a great girls' afternoon out with Fee on Sunday. It may be the last one for a little while, as she has her consultant's appointment next Wednesday which will probably mark the start of the back-and-forth to Shrewsbury for her. The guest speaker read some very amusing bits of her work, and had some autographed books to sell, and the other readers thoug a mixed bunch were kindly received. The next one is all sorted, with a creative writing group not ours providing the readings, but I'm thinking by the time the one after that arrives, as they are every other month, I might have got far enough with my book that it will be worth while giving an extract. All publicity helps.

Sorry to hear about your gall bladder, Doreen. I had mine out several years ago, and I was SO glad I did. It got to the point where one chicken wing would put me in hospital. Don't get me started on the Canadian medical system, though... emoticon

How did the literary afternoon go?

I spent my Sunday walking the pups, trying my hand at Pilates with one of the SparkPeople videos, and making a present for my cousins in Liverpool. They're heading to Disneyland Paris next month, so I programmed them an online countdown page with a different picture and trivia blurb for each day. My cousin and her adult daughter LOVED it! They can't wait to show my cousin's 5-year-old today! He's my little mate - completely fabulous - a little old man in short pants.

Still not feeling wonderful, I've a pain in the region of my gall bladder, though the doc says the gallstone I have is not of a size to give trouble - too large to get stuck, too small to block the whole thing up.

Going to a literary afternoon at the Magic Lantern cinema in Tywyn this afternoon with my daughter (she writes too, except for having a small child and another on the way). First part is a workshop on short stories which we're giving a miss. The second part will be a reading from the author giving the workshop, followed by an open mike session. This is the first time I've been able to go for ages, it always seemed to coincide with the novel writing weekends in St Davids. And it's just occurred to me - when I get the book out, I can ask to be the featured author and get myself some more publicity. I've read some of my flash fiction there at open mike sessions, and they seemed to like them (I always chose amusing ones). And I know just the section to read out. I have a cunning plan.

Think not. Do.

Hi Doreen:

LOVELY! I love historical romances! I'm looking forward to reading yours.

Sorry to hear you're not feeeling well. I've been up and working since before 6 a.m. - not my choice - the pups decided I'd spent far too long in that bed. emoticon

Nah, SCUBAMUM, it's a Regency Romance. Or if I get my butt in gear, a series or two. I'm afraid the way I lost weight is just diet and exercise. And getting Type 2 diabetes at one stage.

Feeling blah today. Headachy, pain in my side, and unsettled. Don't know what I want to do, but it's none of the things I have in front of me. Can't seem to work up enthusiasm for anything. Maybe I should go and have a nap.

Think not. Do.

Sut mae, all:

This is my first proper post since I joined your team. Thanks very much for having me. emoticon

I actually joined several weeks ago, but headed off to a week long conference in California immediately after. Then, my parents came to visit (they live on the west coast of Canada). Between that and trying to keep up with work, I haven't been giving SparkPeople the attention it deserves lately. I'm getting back on track, though; so, expect to hear from me more often.

Doreen, I'm fascinated about the book you're writing. Will I find out more about it if I read your blogs? I'd love it if it was a "how to" book about how you lost 50 lbs! emoticon

I hope you enjoy your trip to Cardiff for your granddaughter's first communion, Pat. I've only been to Cardiff a couple of times (my old "stomping ground" was the Conwy Valley), but I really enjoyed it. It's a beautiful city.

JulBel, it sounds like you and I will be going on holiday around the same time. One of the things I'm going to be doing is scuba diving in the Living Seas tank in Walt Disney World. First you do a quick tour, then you get changed into your wetsuit, then THEY PARADE YOU THROUGH THE CROWD OF TOURISTS LOOKING INTO THE AQUARIUM before you get into the tank. If that's not motivation to drop a stone, I don't know what is! emoticon

Thanks for reminding me about those blogs - ages ago I promised myself I would start doing them again. I've got all sorts of ideas, and really it would be nice to publicize myself once I actually get the ++++ book written. Watch this space!

Off to St David's on Saturday for the final weekend of a course from Aberystwyth Uni on writing that novel. It's been a great year, very motivating, and all the others on the course are so nice. They've set up a group that meets informally from time to time in Fishguard, and I really want to go along some time even though it's quite a long way.

Think not. Do.

Very glad Fee is feeling better. Yes she will feel weak after all that vomiting. It is always the way, when one appliance goes another follows. Keeping my fingers crossed that all ours are ok for a while now after replacing kettle, fridge freezer and microwave this year. Hubby pointed out that the car may need replacing soon, horrified only had it ten years lol. emoticon

Fee is definitely feeling better now, but from lying in bed in a darkened room for so long is feeling weak and is now worrying about gestational diabetes. They tested her for it last time and she was borderline, but I think it's mainly lack of muscle tone myself, same as you get after a bout of flu.

Richard's Dad has gone into a nursing home, so we had to go down for 3 days last week to help sort out the bungalow. He seems to have settled well, it's a BUPA home so quite expensive, but at least it doesn't smell of wee. He has the option of having a tray in his room if he doesn't want to go to the dining room, but he has found at least one old chap who was in the RAF in the war, so they have been swapping war stories. And he has new hearing aids. One has broken down already, but the other seems to be an improvement on the last one, so we no longer have to shout at him.

The day before we went, a Sunday of course, my cooker broke down - the oven stopped working. But we have got another being delivered tomorrow, and in the meantime have been using the top oven. The cooker was there when we moved in, and was nowhere near new then, so we knew we were on borrowed time with it. At least the new one will have legible oven temperatures. The old one had them printed onto the fascia, and of course over time and with all the scrubbing they'd completely worn off. We're giving it to Matthew's parents who mostly use the Raeburn, but have an even older and more worn out one than ours as a backup. One of the rings at least has a switch that reads off when it's really on, and vice versa, it's a wonder they haven't burned the house down yet.

Think not. Do.

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

I know it is no good saying to Fee to stop stressing and worrying. When she has her 12 week scan I am sure she will relax a bit. William is your strength exercise lol and your cardio. They are sooo much fun at that age. My prayers are with you all emoticon

Fee is now worrying that she's not sick enough, because last time it came just before the miscarriage. You can't win, can you? I don't think there's any need to worry, she's just managing her blood sugar levels a bit better. She still looks rough, and she can't watch tv or use a computer because looking at the screen makes her worse, so now she's complaining of boredom.

William is a bundle of energy like most 2-year-olds. He does have the occasional tantrum - the work "no" is not his favourite, and like my own sons, I think he gets frustrated when he can't communicate. But mostly he's a lovely little chap. He's getting a bit heavy for me to pick up, I think I should be going to the gym and doing strength exercises.

Think not. Do.

Pat, eating anything early in the morning just makes her sick. Sometimes even drinking slightly flat lemonade (recommended by the doctor for among other things tummy bugs when you can't keep anything down) makes her sick. However she has been feeling a little better for a couple of days, and she puts it down to trying to eat a little more in the evening, of things which are slow carbs or protein. That way it's not compounded by low blood sugar which she is prone to at the best of times. She's about 9 weeks at the moment, so we've got a way to go still.

This afternoon we took William to the play barn, so we're hoping he'll want to go to bed a bit earlier.

Think not. Do.

The doctor has given her more time off work. She also said that part of her problem is that her blood sugar levels may be low and that's why she's so sick. She suggested Fee eat something immediately she wakes up in the morning. Er ... tell me again, why is it referred to as morning sickness?

Think not. Do.

We haven't suffered too much with the wind, we have stone walls mostly, though there was a branch down on the road this morning on our way to take William to playgroup. And Richard thought there had been a little bit of snow yesterday morning. It's jolly cold though. He thinks the sockets must have got a bit of damp in them, as they seem to be working now, with the hairdryer at least. It's good not to have to bring the washing with us when we come.

Fee has an appointment with the doctor this afternoon to get signed off for another month. Richard will have to drive her in as she has taken her car off the road for a bit to save on the tax and insurance.

Think not. Do.

Oh get an electrician in Doreen, it is cheaper than new appliances, and much safer. Can you call the guy who did the rewire, it should be guaranteed. My microwave, kettle and fridge freezer have all packed in in the last few weeks, expensive without counting the food we had to throw out. Keep safe and well. Best wishes to Fee emoticon

Yes, Fee was quite subdued for a bit, not like her at all. Now she's feeling sorry for herself, but actually the sickness is a good sign, not that I would ever tell her that in case she hit me. It seems to be normal for her to feel really bad, and she wasn't like that just before the miscarriage. Matthew - well it's not so real for a father until it starts showing and moving around, I think.

Our washing machine is messing us around. For a while it would trip the trip switch every time we tried turning it on, even when we moved the plug to a different socket. We were just on the point of getting another machine from eBay when Richard turned on the tumble drier and it wouldn't work at all. We thought we were jinxed, until he put the plug in a different socket and it worked. So he tried the washing machine on an extension lead from the kitchen and that's working again now. My worry is that there's something wrong with the socket; although we had a complete rewire before we moved in, that position had a socket before with an ominous brown burn mark around it. He doesn't want to get an electrician in though.

Think not. Do.

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Today we have lovely sunshine, I'm sending Richard out with William for a little walk, although it's still very muddy underfoot.

I haven't been on the threads for a while, so I don't think I've said that Fee had a miscarriage in early December, but she's pregnant again now, and suffering badly from morning sickness again. So we are looking after William when Matthew can't - today he's working all day. I've taken to bringing my laptop with me, as I found I had over 80 unread emails yesterday.

Think not. Do.
