Hey - I'm confused. The fruit digested before it reaches....(did you say colon?) thing....
Wouldn't it depend upon the fibre sugar make up of the fruit? So for instance an apple or rasberries that have low Glycemic Indexies and high pectin levels would be digested differently from say watermelon or dates which have high GIs. Wouldn't it?
I'm pre-diabetic and well as recently diagnosed with Cronh's so; trying to figure all this out.
I'm on Prednisolone at the moment - so stomach is going okay - BUT SLEEP is the issue. Sigh.

Good Morning Lyn
Great to hear that you are feeling better. Funny you should mention fruit. I did exactly that last night, ate fruit too soon after my meal. And guess what was on the toilet at 9.30 with an episode. But sometimes you think you can get away with it be we can't eh. My tea last night was a Caesar Salad recipe from this web site, served with fish no carbs so just thought oh I will finish off with a piece of fruit. Bad choice. But the really good thing for me now is that I know how to put it right, where as before I had no idea. I am still reading the book Accidentlly Overweight I will be reading it again that is for sure. I am also going to re read Fit for Life again just to refresh my mind. I sometimes feel like I am doing a degree in mc but right now I am so hungry for info. I feel excited about it.
Feeling so much better today and I KNOW watching what I ate TOGETHER helped alot with calming my colitis down this week!! The more I learn, the more I know I need to learn... but thank you once again ever so much for sharing this... still reading... and have lots to go!!
I scrolled down to review all the discussions here... and on the water topic... I remembered and still follow the advice of the Fit for Life Diet which emphasis NOT DRINKING WATER (actually any liquid) during a meal and then waiting 20 minutes after a meal to drink... otherwise you are literally diluting and interfering with your body's abilities digesting & metabolizing what you eat!!
Another Fit for Life rule I try to follow is always eating fruit alone. I usually have it in my snack times. Fruit is digested before it even reaches your stomach and moves quickly through your digestive track... you can eat fruit 20 mins. before any other food... but have to wait 2 hours after eating anything else... the reason stated being if you eat fruit after other foods... it rushes into your digestive track on top of the food that is still there that is moving slower and which is metabolized totally different than fruit; when it hits your stomach on top of food still undigested there, fruit causes fermentation and produces acid that is NOT beneficial to your digestion.
Seems like How and When we Eat is as Important (or even more important) than What we eat, eh??
I am juicing half a lemon in warm water instead of the apple cider vinegar. It is working well for me. Keep up the good work. It is amazing just how wonderful I feel and the way I can still eat my gf museli is that I have it with a small amount of cream as it is a neutral food where as milk is a protein, and I am still losing weight even if it is small amounts. But know down the track when I get my system working properly the weight will take care of itself. No more retaining fluid, bloating, aching joints etc Have a great day Jan
Been reading in food combining website and related links all day... while carefully planning my meals remembering this very important issue... was having a painful colitis flareup 3 days previous to this and with your helpfulness today my pain seems to be subsiding alot (along with drinking apple cider vinegar before meals which I picked up in the nutrition team)... also my pain seemed to be the worse after having a large meal with chicken & (ugh) potatoes 2 nites ago... was so immediate and intense, I don't think I'll forget this very important food combining helpful rule for a long time to come!! Thank you thank you thank you...
One day at time, one step at time, slow and steady.
Not easy, it took me 4 years to really log and try one thing each week, even with all
the bathroom issues, you wonder how can you possibly gain weight?
I also have thyroid and diabetes, so I keep track and finally have some control over
When I am planning on going out for the day, I am careful, very careful of what I eat the day before and what I eat for breakfast the day I am going out.
My family and friends are GREAT, my support system.
Always check to see where the bathrooms are in case you need one in a hurry.
We laugh, sometimes they say there goes cookie on the run, we know where she
is going, heeheehhe, even I have to laugh, amazing how fast we can move when
we have to.
Hang in, if there is anything I can help you with, let me know.
May you always have Love to share, Health to spare, and Friends who care
Thank you for kind words of support. It all helps, funny you should mention water and not with meals as I had been coming to that thought myself as well, I now just sip away at water during the day away from food. And like you I will get this sorted but it sure is not easy. And don't want to make too many changes (other than what I have already done) too quickly otherwise I won't know what are some of the triggers.
It is really to good to keep a log, you can reference what you have eaten on Spark and then do process of elimination.
Drinking water with meals is a big no no for me, I sip it, but, very lightly.
I have to drink because of the crohns but, not with meals.
Most of my colon is gone, so there is not much to absore the fluids.
I also find stress even tho I think I am not stressed those little things in a day
can add and cause a flare up, so stay calm and remember it may seems bad
at the moment but by the next day it is just one more thing we can adjust too.
Sorry you are not feeling well, it is difficult when you have more then one thing wrong to
try and pinpoint what is causing you to flare up.
Don't give up, it took me 4 years to finally get it and stress under control, but, I am doing
it and so can you.
I also find I eat protein for breakfast, and lunch and it helps me in the mornings, especially
if you work , can be a problem with bathroom issues.
Dairy also triggers mine, so I only eat stuff like when I know I am home.
Let your friends know you are battling a very uncomfortable disorder, you will be surprise
how supportive, helpful and understanding they can be.
May you always have Love to share, Health to spare, and Friends who care
I have microscopic colitis and celiac I have been diagnosed since January 2012, I am on no meds yet just went gf which is working up to a point but I still have flare ups but can't quite put my finger on it. After my last flare up 2 days ago I am giving up wine for a start. Then I am going to look at dairy, coffee. But at the same time I have started to look at food combining ie protein/veg veg/starch and only eating fruit on an empty stomach. Has anyone out there tried this and does it help.
