Thank you for sharing AARCHER65.

I was seeing a guy when I ended up in the hospital and found out I have colitis whose brother had crohns. He actually had the nerve to tell me that he didn't believe I had colitis because his brother lost tons of weight when he got sick and I very clearly wasn't losing weight. When I don't feel good, I eat. If good foods make me feel worse I eat white carbs. It makes me feel better, but is no good for my waist line.

hi .. i was diagnosed in jan 2009 with crohns ileitis .. i have 3 strictures in the last 6 inches of small intestine per colonoscopy .. the procedure was ordered after i spent 4 days in the hospital .. i was seeing the gi doc every 6 months .. then, in june, he said i seemed to be in control of it & changed my appts to 1 year apart .. i avoid seeds and nuts .. i had my gallbladder removed when i was 21 (i'm 52 now) because it was filled with stones .. so, i avoid onions, skins and anything that causes indigestion .. the doc had me on entocort ce 2 yrs ago, but i stopped taking it after i realized it had steroids in it .. i quit smoking when i went to the hospital with the gut blockage .. between that and the steroids, i gained about 60 lbs that i'm having trouble losing .. i know that most crohns patients have a problem of gaining and keeping weight on .. i'm at over 200 lbs, so when i tell someone i have crohns, they just roll their eyes or stare at me in disbelief .. MY WORST NIGHTMARE? .. my stricture(s) closing and having to go into surgery, especially with no medical insurance (currently between jobs) .. have a great day/night !!

Welcome to Spark People and to the group! I hope we can liven things up here but so far it's been mostly crickets! Would you be interested in becoming a team leader with me? I don't actually have Crohn's, and don't know a whole lot about all of this. It would be nice to work together with someone to keep this page/team going.

hey! i just joined sparkpeople and this group and really hope that you've succeeded in keeping this group active and alive! it is exactly what i am looking for! :)

ok, my answer to 'your worst nightmare!' is almost every fruit and veggie is impassable for me. :( which stinks because that used to be the bulk of my diet before i came down with crohn's and subsequently had an ostomy. the exceptions are apple sauce, pealed grapes (i know a major pain right!), squash (with no skin), tomatoes, pumpkin, kiwi, potatoes (but hardly a veggie!), and most anything i desire to puree. however i have no issues with dairy, gluten, or basic proteins (i can eat meat, eggs, cheese, tofu, some well cooked beans)

They locate the best variety of foods, then divide it equally among the members. You can get an entire order or half. I chose the half at first, to see how much I get. Yesterday they sent out a list, and wow, it is a lot of food! Four or five kinds of fruit, canalope, raspberries, strawberries, apples, mango, etc. I love the fruit the best, but will enjoy the vegetables too. The lead person said I could trade off with others if there is something I don't like as well, or want more of one particular food. We also have raw cheddar cheese this week, and milk from a dairy! I am so excited! emoticon

That's a great idea. Do they decide what you get to take? How does it work?

Strawberries/raspberries/blackberries...my favorites :o( But it's easy to stay away from when you remember how you feel after eating them!

I've been doing quite a bit of reading about organic foods. Some people testify that drinking raw milk has cured them of being lactose intolerant!

I love milk and don't have a problem drinking it, and consider it a blessing. I also tried the Almond milk, and it is good!!! emoticon

I've been drinking almond milk. It's got a pretty different taste to it, but I like the taste. And I think it has quite a bit of calcium. I haven't tried the lactaid pills, and I just try to avoid ice cream as it is my major setoff food. Thanks!

I drink Lactaid because I LOVE milk and cereal and some times I will eat something I know I shouldn't like icecream and take lactaid pills and just hope for the best. As far as calcium, there is some in the lactaid and I take calcium chews but I'm sure Im not getting as much calcium as I should. I can't win all the battles I guess. :/

What do you do to overcome the lactose intolerance? Do you drink soy or almond milk? How to do you get your calcium?

I'm lactose intolerant so pretty much no dairy. Pop makes me painfully bloated. Most raw fruits and veggies will too although not as bad and "watery" fruits like grapes and citrus seem to be fine. Greasy food used to make me ill so I stay away from it (plus it's unhealthy anyway) but I honestly haven't had it in so long that it might not be as bad now that my Crohn's is more under control.

RMSPARKLES- I have a really good friend who cut gluten out of her diet and has felt better overall. I was surprised by how easy it was for her to get gluten free meals when we would eat out. Even at a pizza place she had no problem ordering and it pizza was even good. Have you tried anything yet that you like? Please let me know!

Thank you Sappki! :-)

I am researching non-gluten foods and trying a few, because when I eat bread, pasta, etc. I don 't feel good after about 20 minutes. emoticon This may be the problem... we will see! I do feel better.. emoticon

Hello,

I am going to try to be a leader of this group. It seems rather inactive so I am hoping to spice things up a bit. Please list a food that sets you off...don't have to be graphic about the results, just list the food.

And let me know if there is anything you would like information on. I will try to keep the site more active if there is involvement. Even if it is just little things because I would like to learn more about Crohns and Colitis.

Thanks!
