I agree!!! I love that hard rock music that really drives me. I am a Spin instructor, and I actually have quite a variety in my playlists from class to class. Never just one kind of music. Do you have any favorite songs to get you going and get you motivated? Happy Spinning!!! Munch

I am fairly new to spinning and find I am motivated by music. I tend to like hard rock and what we lovingly call "angry" music. There is just something in the beat that motivates me to push. But, an instructor is important and I think different instructors appeal to different people just like different music motivates different people. I do have my favorite instructor at the gym where I spin.
Another big motivation is the group dynamic. I go to a Saturday spin class that has a mixture of beginner to well-trained spinners. We start with weight training and then spin. The class just seems to sizzle.

Great spin class today! Jumps, hills, great music. It is a terrific way to start (or end) the day. Spinning has jumpstarted my weight loss and does help me to stay more focused on what I am eating. And it just feels great.

I have just started my weight loss. I need to lose at least 70 lbs :(. I did 3 spinning classes in 6 days. I tell you, it is so tiring, but the feeling afterwards is undescribable. I love it, and it makes me feel good. I feel much stronger in controlling my uncontrolled eating habits which is a bonus.
The music and the instructor make me love to go and I look forward to my class everytime.

I love the music and the ability to really make it "my ride" giving myself more of a challenge when i need it, and backing off a little bit on the days when i am so sore.

This question just got a whole lot more challenging for me, I love the feeling of being in a class full of 40 people when there is the hollering and pure excitement hate being in that same class when there are obnoxious people in it! The music is what pushes me, as I have a tendency of blocking out most outside noise. With that being said after getting certified the last week in october my favorite thing is to go in when the classroom is pitch black and I am all alone with my phone radio set on shuffle. I love the unknown a jump from lady gaga to Alabama is just what I need to keep me interested.
The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success.

I love that I can actually do a spin class. Sounds silly, but the first class I took was only 30 minutes and practically killed me. Now I can do a 60 minute class and can keep up with the best of them. I like that I can choose to make it as challenging as I want.

I've always been one to love an intense, sweaty workout.. and we know spinning is just that. But also, being a runner, its best to not run everyday, so Spinning compliments my running on the off days. And let me tell you, running, spinning and ST will do some nice things to your body :O)

I have my own LeMond spin cycle, so what makes me enjoy it is doing it at home on my own time and do what I feel like doing that session.
If I'm doing my own high intensity interval work, I listen to whatever music I like at the time.
I also own DVD's that lead you through your spinning, although I'm most excited about a set of four which will be a Christmas present this year. They take you riding through the Colorado Rockies for up to two straight hours. I LOVE mountains and hope it inspires me.

A great instructor who pushes me hard and walks around the room to personally challenge us and check our form. I can't stand a spin instructor who's way too easy. Also, music is a huge importance in my spin workout. There is this one instructor at my gym who always has an 80's or classic rock 70's playlist, not bad music, but certainly not the high intensity i crave.

For me, it's the music and the instructor. We had a new instructor take the place on one when they were on holiday. He didn't push us at all. He was speaking so quitely and the music wasn't great. I love loud and music with a fast beat. I quite enjoy getting shouted at by instuctors, it makes you work so much harder.

The instructor is really important...a well designed program, and someone who is intense and supportive at the same time! I also like the group dynamic...you push each other to go a little harder. I love feeling like I need to be carried out of the room when we're done!

I have been spinning for almost a year and I love it. I love when I am pushed to the brink of having an out of body experience. This is when you are working so hard you don't recognize yourself. Most people don't like to sweat a lot, but if you are spinning the correct way you are going to be dripping with sweat. Spinning is an awesome stress reducer. Spinning rocks!!!

Spinning has helped me get back into exercise after a 6-month break.
The music, the group energy, the intensity - the fact that each workout is different, has helped me rediscover my love of exercise

It has to be the music for me, if it's not good music it's a little hard to really get into it. The instructor does a great job picking music and not every class is the same they are always different.

Spinning is the greatest! Since I added spinning 4X per week to my routine I've doubled my weight loss. I don't even recognize my legs anymore! No more fat, they are rock hard and so strong. 3 cheers for spinning!
I love spinning because it is what has helped me to lose 70 lbs, make me stronger, increase my endurance, increase my confidence in my own abilities, and for the first time feel like an athlete. I also love the differences in my 4 instructors and the spirit from the other members in my classes. Love the music too!

1 hour usually equals to 700 to 1100 calories burned for me.
That my friends, is AWESOME! I can burn that in a 50 mile ride, so to get it all out in an hour makes the pain and fatigue worth it. I love spinning!

I love the music the instructors pick :) I would much rather spin to the beats Lady Gaga than just run on a treadmill forever. And the classes I go to have between three and seven people, so you really get to know everybody.

The music and the two fantastic instructors that I have. I am fortunate enough to belong to a small local gym that really gives personal attention to all its members. The classes are between 5-15 people, so you really get to know everyone well. Its motivation to me to show up and do my class because I know that I'll be exercising with friends to great music.

I really like the music, and really like techno ... but will make do with strong, zippy beat. Some of the instructors come in ill prepared, or with somewhat lame music, and it isn't as fun!
I also like being able to totally space out - which I do when I pushing super hard. That's a giant benefit over a class where I'm thinking about choreography or the 'moves'.
I started spinning a few weeks ago and have quickly found it addictive.

The music definitely works well with me. The energy of the room, peddling to the bass of the music, etc. Also, when I'm really struggling in class I kind of daydream about seeing my family next class when I've lost a lot more weight (if I did that while running or riding a bike outside, I might have an accident)! However, what doesn't work for me is music that is turned all the way up, with the instructor literally screaming. There have been a few times this week where the instructors turn the music dial all the way up and scream so loud at the class, that you can't even understand what they're saying. I don't know if anyone else has run into that problem, but it looks like I'm bringing ear-plugs to class this next week!

I have been spinning for about 2 weeks. History: arthroscopic knee surgery to remove at least half my meniscus, previous stroke, former marathoner. Running had to go, because of the knee issues. I am enjoying spinning classes and the instructors seemed to be well trained. I have big feet and the toe clips are really too small for me, so I need to get spinning shoes, and if I make it through August, I will do that. My weight plateau has been broken-thanks, spinning. It is the most intense workout ever (running sprints is harder, but can't do that now)

I do love the music - our instructors really mix up the music and I really appreciate the time they take to make their mixes.
What I love about spinning, too - is that I could get through a whole class right away, spinning at my own level....but now that I've increased my fitness level, a bit, I can really adjust the workout to be a challenge!

i like that it has the structure of a regular fitness class, but i have the freedom to make my own workout. sometimes i really push myself more than the instructor tells us to, but sometimes i just sit back and follow along. i like having that control in my workout.

It is the only cardio that I have found that gives you a "runners high" without the joing impact. However, my new spin bike came with a faulty pedal and just broke. I can't get Startrac to answer their phone or call me back!!

What makes the spin class work is the instructor teaching it. I've taken other classes that were not as intense and you feel like you didn't workout.

I am also addicted to spinning. At my gym they now have a yoga class that follows the morning (6am) spinning class. Which I find really helpful. Joke with the instructor that I get broken in the frist hour of spinning and put back together in the yoga class. I find that I am not half as sore when I do the yoga class afterwards. Really helps to sretchout after spinning as it can really tighten up your legs.

I am so addicted to spinning. In May of this year I decided to join a spinning class. The spinning class at my local YMCA is the BEST. My instructor does an excellent job, to make sure that you know what your doing on the bike. I started out going twice a week, now I go 3-4 times a week.

I've been spinning for several years now. Sometimes deepening on my schedule I can do more classes. I have noticed my arms are toned I didn't realize it til a few weeks ago. Toned arms are an added bonus.

I bought a spinning bike for home and some great DVDs. This makes it easy for me to get in an awesome workout before work in the morning. The instructors on these DVDs are very positive and motivational - not just for the work out but for life...I love it.

I'm now noticing that my arms are even getting toned from the spinning...have others' experienced this as well? I've been at it for about 4 months now. I bring my daughter(age 14) to class with me every Saturday morning, and she loves it, too. Now that I've been doing it for a while, I'm really working on my form and thinking about getting some cycling shoes!

I've been to 4 spinning classes now and I'm absoutely addicted. Today I was at a Memorial day get-together and mentioned to my husband that I can't wait for Wednesday's spin class! He laughed and said I'm crazy (whatever! I'm just determined!) For me, a great, caring instructor helps. I love any kind of upbeat music and I go at my own pace - just doing my personal best makes me feel amazing. I'm trying to convince my mom to try a class with me now:) Happy spinning everyone!

I've posted before about this and it's still the same. The music and the instructor. I can't nor will I attend a dead class with horrible music. Believe me I've tried it just does nothing for me.

I've been spinning since August 09 when I joined the YMCA. When I was researching gyms, the salespeople would say, "Spinning is great but it's so hard." That sparked my interest as I love to prove people wrong. I loved that I was being challenged.
In that time, I've realized there are three major factors for me in a good spin class. (In no particular order) Number one, the music. I hate techno/club music. One song is ok, but if the class music feels like I should have glow sticks, I lose concentration. Number two, the teacher. I've never responded well to yelling. If the teacher's voice sounds like yelling, I'll lose concentration. It's one thing to speak loudly but it's a fine line when it become a high pitched yell. And lastly, letting it be MY ride. I started off in a beginner's class and she really allowed me to grow into spinning. She wouldn't push or make me keep up with a certain cadence. It annoys the heck out of me when the cadence becomes the goal.

Nice comment about the HR monitor. I use mine and can stop the calorie counter after a workout, then start it again after another workout. I reset it at the end of the day and it helps me control the intake calories more carefully. I'm just figuring the system out and fine tuning it for me.
Great comment, good luck! Rock it

I have been spinning for years now and it is all about the intensity and the MUSIC! I really lose myself and I love it. I sweat so much that I can bearly see! I actually got a heart rate monitor last week(for my p90x program) and wore it to spinning and burned 550 calories and the teacher was new! I can't wait to see how many I burn when I take my advanced teachers class on Saturday morning she's a beast.
