Yesterdays test went great, the prep is the worse part of it. I was told I had inverted diverticulum & diverticulosis but no plops except in my stomach. I also ended up with gastritis which means I shouldn't have any red sauces (pizza, spaghetti, etc0, no grapefruit, no caffeine & to not take anything but tylenol for pain. The best news I got was she said I could have my strawberries. So all in all not bad. Now I have to take miralax every night, increase my fiber & have a low fat diet.

Be the best you can be every day!

I agree, try and live a healthy lifestyle, and relax, stress can cause problems with diverticular disease. Stick to natural foods, keep a food diary and soon you will find out what triggers an attack. An important rule is no fiber if you have pain, and fiber when you are pain free. Introduce the fiber slowly if you are not use to fiber. Drink your 8 glasses of water a day too. The preparation for a colonescopy is harder then the procedure.
Take care

I've been coping with diverticular disease for nigh on two years now. It has motivated me to mostly clean up my diet and exercise more regularly. I'm healthier and happier as a result of my diagnosis. It's not all bad, so keep your chin up! :-)

It's so hard to know what to eat & what not to eat, no one is clear on this subject. Today is the day before my 1st colonoscopy. I can't have anything solid foods all day then I start all the nasty stuff this afternoon. I'm a little worried & scared for tomorrow & everyone tells me to not worry. I'm a very modest person & I have never been put out. I'm also worried what they are going to find, I know it's crazy of me but I can't seem to help it. Hopefully I will know more tomorrow on what to do.

I can commiserate on the whole farting machine thing. Decided that it would be okay to have some pork roast "just this once" last night. It wasn't. Spent the remainder of the night on the couch so I wouldn't gas my poor wife and this morning I've got fever/chills and that wonderful lower left quadrant pain.

I really should know better by now.

I take a probotic ever day, it may make it a little better. I can't seem to find the food or should I say foods that are causing me trouble. I'm going for my 1 st colonoscopy on Thursday & hopefully that doctor will have more information for me. They are also going down into my stomach on the same day, so I guess everything will be checked out that way. I know I'm tried of the stomach cramps & the gas, I feel like a farting machine at times.

Hi, gas is a sign that things are not working quite right, when I get a lot of gas it means I ate something that is causing a problem. strawberries don,t bother me but raspberries do, and sesame seeds, rice is bad for me and too much beef is nnot good. Aloe Vera juice helps, and so does taking a good probotic . Another thing to avoid are nuts. I also take cats claw to help keep my immune stystem strong to fight off infection.
Hope this helps

I can't really figure this problem out, I've only had one really bad episode but it was enough to scare me. It came from eating corn on the cob - so I never will eat corn on the cob again. The doctor told me to stay away from any corn but to try other foods & I will know. I'm a little scared to try most things. I love strawberries & some say they are bad for you. Any one have problems with these? Also I have another questions, does anyone have lots of gas? I seem to have lots of gas with bloating.

There was a massive study done a few years back showing that seeds and nuts aren't harmful to diverticular disease sufferers, but a lot of docs haven't gotten that message and are still giving their patients outdated info.

That being said, food with nuts/seeds can be a trigger for some people with the illness, which is why it's so important to keep a food diary so that you know what the unique items are that set off YOUR episodes.

I don't have as bad of symptoms as before but much of the time I do have bowel leakage of some sort. When I started taking Aleve for my sore knees I had fewer problems. I completely stay away from popcorn, but other things I'm told that are bad like nuts don't usually bother me.

1. My diverticulitis flare-ups have almost disappeared since I had my gall-bladder removed last year. I think not having something dumping infected pus like material into my digestive tract has helped out a fair bit.

2. I've switched to a mostly ovo-lacto vegetarian diet. Not for moral reasons, but because I got tired of having to carry around a roll of TP and constantly be aware of where the bathrooms were because of perpetual diarrhea.

3. Most my protein now comes from Whey and Casein powder supplements. I eat actual meat infrequently, and it's mainly chicken (no skin) and fish.

4. I killed my old job ( www.meadowlarkpc.ca ) and am going full-time with my photo studio. Hopefully this is less stressful.

How is everyone else doing? What are you up to? Have you made any changes that have helped?
