I had bowel resection surgery on April 10. Aside from the surgery pain , so far, this is the best choice that I have made . I haven't felt this good for over 3 years. I would do it again in a minute. emoticon

SB, there's a fellow who works across the street from me in town. He's 76. He had a resection done 8 years ago for diverticular disease and says it's the best thing that could have happened. Not a single flare up since, mostly normal bowel function, and he can eat more of what he likes without getting sick. I know he's okay physically since he still downhill skis at that age. :-)

I am 44 years old and have had diverticulosis and diverticulitis flares for the past 4 years. I am scheduled to have the colon resection surgery in March. I had diverticulitis 7 times last year. Can you please post about your surgery so that maybe I won't be quite so scared. Thank you.

That is an excellent prognosis. Coming back in 5 years tells the story. Great news.

It's been a week ago tomorrow since the colonoscopy and it went well. No problems except nurses had a hard time getting IV in. Nasty bruises. But the dr said everything was fine. No new polyps. Said I do have some mild diverticuli on my right side but I should be fine. Just eat lots of fiber. I don't need to go back for another 5 years!!! Yeahhh!

I haven't had a resection but I wouldn't think the test would be any different than one before the procedure. I have lots of pockets, both sides and have barely escaped having the surgery. I think you should feel relieved to find that you are healing nicely. I have learned to try to calm down when I am stressed which has always been a trigger for me. I wish you well. It sounds like you will be fine. My doctor said I could have an episode next week or maybe NEVER again. It is so random.

I'm scheduled Friday morning to have it. I've had one once before but that was before the diverticulitis and the resection surgery. Has anyone had any experience with a colonscopy after resection surgery? Pretty nervous about it.
