The Lake Michigan beaches are beautiful at all times of year! I live near Silver Beach in St. Joseph, Michigan. This time of year the weather is so crazy that sometimes you can see huge waves, other times it's as still as a pond! I never get tired of the beach!
I'm going to the Lighthouse Festival the 2nd weekend of Oct. We go to Alpena which is where our family cabin is but the festival features lighthouses from all over and the colors are usually pretty nice. I have however been up there and it snowed and I had to run to walmart to buy long johns!!!
Oh and if you're anywhere near the Detroit Zoo during Oct, you should go. It's all decked out in it's Halloween finery. Take your kids to the zoo boo, they'll love it.

Two beautiful places to see in the Upper Peninsula are Lake of the Clouds, in the Porcupine Mountain State Park, on the Western end of the UP, near Ontonagon and White Pine. And Brockway Mountain Drive, which is a narrow, winding road that climbs up to a scenic area that overlooks Lake Superior and the surrounding forest. That drive is in the Keweenaw, between Calumet and Copper Harbor.

I am taking the family camping at Sleepy Hollow State Park the first weekend in October. Between the lake there and Uncle John's Cider Mill up the road...we should be able to enjoy some fall memories. Also, the State Park is having a Fall Festival and has lots of things for the kids. Campers are encouraged to decorate their campsites and then at night the kids go from camp site to camp site Trick -or-Treating. This will be our first year there but I've heard lots of good things about it.

Last year in Sept, we kayaked down the Platte river - the trees were starting to turn color, the Salmon were running (around our kayaks) and the weather was fabulous. Dumped out into Lake Michigan and had a picnic on the beach. Awesome!
we are going to Saugatuck tomorrow. We are taking a boat cruise on the Kalamazoo river and into lake Michigan if the weather is nice enough. Never done this I hope it will be a great trip for my family.
Of course I gotta say cider mills and apple orchards, but one of my favorite places to go , year round is Frankenmuth. I like to go in the fall cause it's chilly, but not freezing, plus the closer it gets to Christmas the busier it is.

Of course I have to plug my area of Michigan, Harbor Springs! We're just north of Petoskey. The color season is beautiful up here. We have the "tunnel of trees" which is highway M119 that winds from Harbor Springs to Cross Village. It's a narrow winding road with woods on both sides and it follows the lake shore so you get a glimpse of Lake Michigan now and then.
We have a few fall festivals here with the one I like being the Charlevoix Apple Festival. It's the first weekend in October I believe. It's a lot of fun! Check it out!
