I found that if you are looking for exercise videos Goodwill is a good place to check out. I got 3 today for a dollar each. And if I don't like them, I"m not out much.

It's gotten to the point where I'm finding it too cold to run outside (even though I got a new set of running hats/gloves and yaktrax for xmas). My eyes and nose water too much!!

I treadmill it at the gym at work, and at home I do yoga and/or kickboxing in the house.

Love,
Hillary

I asked for (and received!) a treadmill for Christmas, so I am walking in my basement for 40 minutes a day. I also am combining the walking with free weight exercises. I like to do FitTV workouts when I have a free moment (while the baby is sleeping, most likely) but I definitely am making sure I at least get my walk in each day.

I walk outside and go to the gym. I don't find it any harder to work out in the winter the hard part that I find is eating all the good fruit a veggies in the winter cause they are not a fresh and coast so much more in winter.

To rythmn challenged KJMELTAWAY... I feel your pain- anything with dance steps is out of my realm. I use Leslie Samsones "walk-a-way the pounds" dvds and the "Biggest Looser" dvds. Neither has fancy steps- just great workouts and not a lot of room needed for either type.

I just moved to the UP(way out in the country) in July. I used to live in Las Vegas...I know, I know...What the heck am I doing out here? I'm also new to SP. I'm glad to find out what others are doing for exercise as the house I currently live in does not accommodate any kind of exercise equipment and we don't have any gyms even close to where I live. Snowshoes, here I come! (do they make snowshoes for dogs?)

If you don't want to snowshoe try just walking with ski pools it helps with the ice and arms get a great workout. People look at me funny sometimes but who cares!

I don't know about you, but I get a great workout, and lots of calories burned by shoveling. LOL! I also go to Curves, and love exercise videos. MY fav right now is Turbo Jam! LOVE IT!! Today I braved the ice and cold wind and went for a 20 min bike ride with my daughter. NOw I find that to be good exercise. But not so easy with snow. LOL!

One thing I have found as a nonexcerciser is that playing in the snow with kids burns tons of calories. Pulling them up the hills to sled down is a great workout. Plus it gives some quality time. I am kinda sad the snow melted and am looking forward to some more. However spring sounds a lot nicer than that.

Lizz-I'm so with you! I don't like going out in this either, but as someone else has said, your stuck here (live here!) you may as well find some good in it!

I may look into the yak tracks also. I tried walking my dog last weekend, but the ice was a nightmare! lol!

Man I feel like such a baby when it comes to snow! emoticon

I Absolutely hate running on snowy roads/sidewalks...my biggest fear is falling and hurting something...its hard because I know i have to keep my run time low so I HAVE to run..so i try to make it to the gym as much as i can..but tredmills a so boring and indoor tracks start hurting my knees after a few miles.. I can't wait to run outside again.. im just really not a cold weather runner..

i haven't really been out side at all...i guess its probably because i never buy the proper snow apparel...egh..but these yaktrax sound kind of useful..ill have to check into them

I do both - the treadmill, weight machine and I also do some outside running. I go mall walking with my daughters a couple of days a week as well.

I plan on doing the Groundhog Gallop in Jackson the first Saturday in Feb. Hoping it won't be too cold, but I'm going to do it anyway! So I'm trying to run outside some to train for that.

Anyone near the Jackson area care to come?

I have DVD's, a little step machine I can do while I watch TV, and of course there is always shoveling the snow that never seems to stop falling.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

With the break in the weather(southern MI) I was able to get outside and walk 4 miles today and ride my bike 3 miles. I really like it outside, when weather permits. I also have a home gym with all the basics when I can't go out.

Crissy - you mentioned dirt roads/ice, etc. Get a pair of Yax Traks and put them on your shoes and you'll be able to climb those icy hills (and come down) without slipping and sliding. They are great!!! Being out doors even in the colder temps is great exercise. Just thought I'd share.

Like many of you, I too have a home set up of things, treadmill, DVD's, Wii Fit, free weights for starters. But I just joined a walking club that meets on Sundays for a 10 week training session. Weather permitting we'll do outside work (which I'm hoping for) otherwise, will learn proper (and hopefully new) techniques on walking. I want to go to Idaho in April for a 1/2 marathon. I need my head examined!!!!! LOL

I have invested in a treadmill and stationary bike. When I get tired of being home, I spend the money to go run on an indoor track and swim. And of course, I shovel, shovel and shovel.

I shovel snow when I have to. I do not walk outside in winter since there are no sidewalk in my neighborhood. So I go to the gym or use my treadmill or bike here at home. For Christmas I received a step and a set of exercise bands so I'll be making use of those too.

I actually get a better workout in winter than in summer. We hike Saugatuck Dunes State Park almost daily, and when the snow comes, the hike is more challenging. No snow shoes, so we clomp along in our snow boots. Gave up my membership to the gym in August and actually lost more weight by hiking than I did by working out in the gym. Fresh air, wildlife,it doesn't get any better than that!

I do everything I do in the summer except swim... and my trampoline jogging is on a small indoor trampoline instead of an outdoor one.... and I don't work the ponies if it is 10* or less or really windy. Aside from those changes I just add more layers and some YakTrax and go about my business as usual!

I still walk outside, nothing else seems as good to me. Just got snowshoes so am anxious to get on those. I shovel snow as much as I can and just constantly find any reason to MOVE inside the house. I strive for AT LEAST 13,000 steps on my pedometer. I am traveling far short of that while traveling except for one day...yesterday so can't wait to get home and resume!

I go to the gym...it's not that far away. But it's hard to motivate when it's cold outside. I have a stationary bike at home, yoga equipment and a balance ball.

But, heck, I'll call my 20 minutes of shoveling this morning as exercise. :)

I also love to snow shoe, but find it difficult in the extreme cold that we've had lately. I was out last night & had to quit early as my breathing was too labored.

So, I usually do the treadmill or dvds that I have. Shovelling is also a necessity at my job, but I enjoy it if it's not too cold.

That reminds me, got shovelling to do . . .

When it gets this cold I don't exercise outside. . .the cold is a trigger for my asthma. I will park farther away from the store & make myself walk.

Does anyone go sledding for exercise? I'm thinking the trek up the hill would be good.

I hoping the snowblower gets back from the shop before this snow comes!

You can snowshoe in most any amount of snow but it's best if there's at least 6" I'd say. When it gets too deep and fluffy it's harder and you tend to sink in more unless you have a trail to follow. I like to follow snowmobile trails too

I have a huge collection of exercise dvds and do one every morning before work and try to make sure to get outdoors to exercise on the weekends when feasible. I pole walk and just try to get through the drifts in my yard walking the dogs. I have a treadmill and get in my interval training as much as possible, this keeps me in great shape. Right now I just started Beachbodies new workout Chalean extreme and if today is any indication this workout is going to get me some serious muscle. More muscle burns fat.

Supposed to get another 5-10 inches today and 2-6 inches of snow tomorrow. It's winter in Michigan.

I use my Leslie Sansone workouts, and also my mini stepper. I also shovel snow, but that's only because I have too.

Pretty much, I just get on my elliptical. However, I do shovel (it needs to be done now!) and believe it or not, but snowmobiling does burn calories too! I do that when we have enough snow and/or the time to go north and spend the days on the trails.

Gotta love Michigan winters!
