Hi ladies,

I haven't been on SP for almost a year now. I check a few videos out once in a while, but I haven't posted much lately. Our lives have been very hectic lately, with three trips to the hospital for my husband (also on SP) in the last six months, hurricane damage in August of 2011, but I am starting to see the light at the end of the path. I have gained back some inches around my middle, so I have to get back to taking care of myself. I just weighted myself, I've gained back about four pounds. I better change my scale today.

I am still using Sparks but not as often as when I first started. I am sorry for not posting often as well. I have to make a conscious decision daily that I am going to use Sparks and move forward. Somedays it s a struggle but with the help from all of you and from our Wonderful Father in heaven, I will get through this and succeed. Thanks for the e-mail (even though you sent it to everyone), I felt like you were talking to me. Hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed Monday. Enjoy today while we have it.

Temptations - learn how your body responds - can you have just a small portion - or does it make you crave more and more?

If you can have just a taste and be satisfied - go for it! You won't feel deprived that way! At Birthday parties and weddings, I have with permission one bit of my DH's piece of cake! That's all I need to not feel deprived and mournful! lol I take a healthy snack (fruit or nuts) so I am not hungry which will cause me to eat more of the wrong things.

There are something that just make me crave more and more and I can't stop! I avoid them and find something else with like crunch or flavor or that I like equally as well and eat that instead.

I find snacks that are healthy and make sure I have some with me at all times. Then I never eat what I don't really want and then regret it.

Hope these ideas help you!

Just a quick note to all of you who have posted on this thread = thank you so much - your encouragement is much appreciated - any suggestions on how to handle temptations is appreciated by all.

Let's take it to the Lord in prayer and He will in turn give us the power to overcome

Hi Mischelle - so glad to read your post.

I have been there many times - doing fairly well for some time with up to 10 pounds lost and then for whatever reasons a gain - and I then seem to fall apart and blow it completely.

I have found that the best is to try to be consistent - and when we do backslide a bit just get back on track.

Also I have found that what is really working for me this year is that I am tracking my changes. For instance Jan 1 2012 I had some chocolate and some pop and then starting on Jan 2 2012 I gave both up. And as of today I have neither so this now gives me 137 days free of these two items and am loving that I don't include them at all anymore - when I have said to my hubby like I did last night when we went for a drive 'Boy could I ever go for a snickers bar' - he stopped at the store and came out with a bottled water - handed it to me and said drink this while we go for a drive and when we get home I will make you a healthy sandwich - it worked.

Anyway keep it up and keep posting

Congrats to you all on your progress! When I finally grasp the idea that this is a journey to better health and it has ups and downs like any other journey I had more peace and less of the roller coaster ride emotionally.

Planning ahead is one of the biggest tools. Know where you are going to eat out, what parties are ahead and plan your menus so you don't just eat anything when you are hungry!

Not that I have arrived yet, I certainly have not. But know I didn't gain this weight over night and it isn't going to disappear over night either. I am much healthier and slimmer now than I was 3 yrs ago! So that is the over all good thing!! Each day I keep putting one foot in front of the other and like a baby, if I stumble and fall, I just get up, brush myself off and keep at it!! :)

Blessings to you all!!

Good Morning! It is a bright and sunny morning in Pa. I am excited to begin new today. This is my response to the very nice email message I received. I don't post much and hope I am doing this in an ok place.

My weightloss journey is lifelong. I joined SparkPeople over a year ago, but didn't commit or stick to doing anything consistently. I recommitted a few months ago. I have joined a TOPS group and am using many encouragements that I receive on Spark pages to encourage my TOPS friends. Since the end of January to four weeks ago, I had lost 17 pounds. Then when I thought I was doing well, I had a gain. I tumbled into old "all or nothing" patterns, with a mindset of "If I'm going to gain weight anyway, ...."

I'm not proud of that, but being honest with you and myself, I am admitting my patterns in hopes of confronting and changing them! So.... following two weeks of gains and last week a small loss, I followed with a roller coaster of good and bad days, hoping the good would outweigh the bad (fingers crossed, because my efforts were lacking. lol)

Somehow, in God's incredible grace, I weighed in yesterday to a 2.25 loss! I don't understand it but I awake today with a new drive. I am back where I was a month ago and ready to move forward. I would love to say old patterns are behind me....

With God's strength and the incredible support and encouragement I find here, I will move forward one day at a time, intending to focus on better health and serving my LORD daily, keeping the weight numbers in their right place.

Praying God's blessing and encouragement upon each one who reads this.
Mischelle emoticon
