Happy 4th everyone!

I know I am a newbie and I don't know some of your stories, etc.. or you know mine...yet... BUT... I am wishing everyone a FABULOUS day, weekend! Enjoy the time with family, friends and time to reflect, relax amidst the noisy fireworks tonight! emoticon

It's going to be a noisy one tonight since it is on a Friday night! Let the No Getting To Sleep at any decent hour start! LOL

What are your plans for the 4th today?

US - We are heading to my mother in laws this afternoon to visit, bbq, etc... Then we are coming back home to watch the fireworks in our own neighborhood since there are quite a few that occur all around us. AND, to water things down and make sure the house is "safe"!

BE YOURSELF! BE YOU! You can do it!

hello, haven't posted in ages, but I'm around. Had a graduation to do/plan, the end of school for 5 kids, three upcoming birthdays, and more to keep me busy.

Went paleo/primal back in March and am happy to report a loss so far of 17lbs. Loving this way of eating even tho it means more work in the kitchen and meal planning.

I'll try to keep in better touch.

Do not ask "is this good or bad...is this right or wrong for me?"...but instead ask "for where I want to be in the future, is this the WISE choice for me?"

"I have the right to do anything." you say - but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything" - but not everything is constructive. I Corinthians 10:23

Time to check in again - have been so busy with the move to our new home. Have been in it now for 3 weeks but have been painting every day while unpacking. Think we have another 2 weeks of painting and we should be finished.

Furnace decided to cause trouble over the weekend. Had the fellow come out to look at it - he didn't know we just moved in so his frown was understandable - he looked at it and said 'You have not serviced this furnace in close to 7 years - why? - now it is going to cost a lot of money - in fact you would be advised to replace it do to the neglect.' We told him we just moved in and we have always serviced our furnaces at least once per year. So now we have to come up with $3500 to get a new one put in!! Thanks previous owners!!

I am hoping the counter people will be out this week to give an estimate on new counters in the kitchen and backsplash - and hopefully we can get this in by the end of the month or very beginning of May.

Have started my new food plan - The Doctors Diet by Dr. Travis Stork (from the tv show The Doctors) I had my doctor look at it and he said out of all the ones out there this is the one to follow - so here goes. Today is Week 1 Day 1 for me - we do it 2 weeks at a time - 1st 2 weeks is called STAT plan and the 2nd 2 weeks is called RESTORE plan - if goal is reached by this time you move to MAINTAIN plan otherwise you go back to 2 Weeks STAT, 2 Weeks Restore, 2 weeks stat 2 weeks restore until you get to goal. Have my meals out planned out for the week - and with daily praying to get through 7 days all will be good.

Hope you all have had a great Easter - no overeating on unhealthy foods / sweets = but rather spending time with the Lord, family and friends

Have a great day everyone

I live in Washington State and I am asking everyone to pray for the victims of the awful mudslide we had. We have 26 dead and 90 still missing. And it is raining all week which is not helping in the search. A complete community is gone. My work place as collected food, gas cards & supplies for th victims. My family did what we could but still feel helpless. So many have lost so much and for the families that are still waiting to hear something official. My heart goes out to them.

Greetings ladies. Sorry I have not posted in a bit but have been busy with keeping house extra clean as it has been up for sale - has sold. And we have bought another - moving at the end of March - so this month is going to be busy packing and moving.

My 'spiritual life' is in pretty good shape - much better than my physical life - need to improve on my exercise and eating.

Would any of you like to have a 'challenge' here - I know we all have different groups that we belong to have some are doing challenges with them - but we could have one going here if there are those that would be interested.

Challenge ideas would be helpful - how about a challenge of 4 weeks with each week having a different focus - we could include a week to focus on exercise, a week to focus on veggs, a week to focus on bring our spiritual life and physical life together - such as finding a scripture that tells us how we should be taking care of our body or eating

Give me your feedback and we will go from there

Stopping by to say hello. Praying that all are doing well in their challenges. I'm excited that spring is just around the corner. Can't wait till things warm up a bit and all signs of spring start appearing. It seems like everything in life has a fresh start. It gives me energy to want to do things outside and enjoy all the beauty. emoticon

Hi Smiliey, I did the Made to Crave study a few years ago. At the time, I was pregnant, so a lot didn't apply to me at the time. I remember really liking it, and learning from it.

While I have done yoga in the past, I do feel that yoga targets specific towards other gods when the instructor would do chants towards the end of the session. When the instructor would say these different chants, I never said the chants and thought about what God has done for me and gave him praise during that time. Yoga did help me with breathing techniques for relaxation, but it has been 7 years since I took yoga and probably won't take it again. Hope this helps!!

good evening, somewhere I read that as Christians we should not be doing yoga as it worships other gods. agree? disagree? just looking for people's thoughts. fairly young in faith so just looking to grow. Thank you

Looking forward to reading Made to Crave, has anyone else read it?

I haven't done too well the past couple of days with the Super Bowl parties (I live in Olympia, WA) and everything seems to be Seahawks and food. I made better choices then I would of done a few months ago. But I did have some chips and cake. Guess my body didn't like the junk food, I woke up with all kinds of aches and pains, I didn't even make it to Curves today. A good lesson, clean eating is the only way for me. No sugar, no junk food equals less pain and more energy. My mind know that but my body is really wanting to reach for that chocolate cake. Instead I am going to fill up my water bottle and go work on my bible study.
Have a great evening.

Greetings - praying you wonderful ladies are all doing well.

I am back on track starting Feb 1 - January ended up not a good month with regard to weight loss issues. But have learned from it and am back on track.

We sold our home and have purchased a new one. I am needed a home all on one level - stairs are getting difficult due to my back and that I am now a senior. We take possession end of March and am excited about moving

Am starting a 4 week challenge with a group I lead - I have done it before and it helped a lot to keep me accountable. So am looking forward to some positive changes happening this month

God bless all of you - stay happy and healthy

I'm not new to SP but kind of new to this team. I use to be a speaker. I use to speak at womens retreats and workshops and things got crazy with life and I fell back into my old ways. A friend of mine told me to read Joel Osteens book 31 days of Declarations and that it would change my life. I've started and stopped, started it and stopped. I'm not sure what's going but my guess is that the devil is working overtime bc great things are about to happen. But I lack consistency and that is a stronghold that I need to relinquish so I can move forward.

My eating habits have been very lax and I beat myself up for it everyday.
Time to change. I need to practice what I use to preach. :)

Good point, Rachael! I just figured that out a few weeks ago, too!

Jeanne, I also spent a lot of the past year spending more time on other things rather than on the Lord. So this year I'm focusing on prayer and in doing my quiet times every day before work. I'm going through "Lord, Teach Me to Pray in 28 Days" by Kay Arthur. I read it before, but this time around, I'm learning so much more that God is teaching me through the scriptures she has you look up.

Rachael your Bible study sounds great. I did two with books as guides lately. One book was Trusting God and the other book was "Calm My Anxious Heart" by Linda Dillow. Both were very good reminders to me to trust the Lord for everything even the difficult. Sometimes I have spend more time dieting than praying or reading the Bible. This past year has been one of my most difficult but the Lord helped me find the book called "Out of the Pit" by Beth Moore and it has scripture prayers to pray for every day- that has helped me lose weight ( did gain some back at Christmas) and get closer to the Lord rather than simply stuffing my face. May the Lord bless you and others as we seek to have Him transform us that we may glorify Him in our bodies and spirits!

My church started a new discussion series this week, titled "New Year, New Me." This hits home for me on so many levels, including my relationship with God and my goal to become healthier this year! The basis of today's message was that we all get so focused on changing the outside appearance that we forget about what's on the inside and how it affects our outside in the long run. We need to feel renewed in our salvation and know that God is with us through every struggle we face.
It also made me (once again) think about the fact that if we're not emotionally and mentally ready to lose weight then our physical efforts are going to be wasted. I keep trying to remind myself of that idea each day as I strive to adopt healthier eating habits and an exercise routine!!

"The difference between good and great is a little extra effort"

"My goal in life is to be as great as my dog thinks I am"

Be still, and know that I am God -- Psalm 46:10

having a hard time getting exercise in i do work with resistance bands but they only do so much and im trying to track my steps but dont come near 6000 except yesterday i did over 8 but thats only because i was running my head off. I allow everyone to mess up my schedule and then use that as an excuse not to try to go to the gym.

Christmas and New Year's has not been the best time for me to lose weight. Kind of upset with myself. I am back on track but I wasted time over Christmas and messed up on my carb count for diabetes. I do my diabetes by diet alone so it is very important that I follow the program. Hope I have a better January.

God is good. He helps us if we only ask.

Sorry you're not feeling well. God will give you the strength you need for what he has called you to. Our family is down with the flu today so we are taking a day off to rest and do whatever we don't normally have time to do (as long as it involves laying in bed :-) )

Gosh is no one using this thread - or maybe everyone is really busy because of Christmas.

Prayer is that we will all reconnect and start posting here again - we all need the encouragement - so come when you can - we would all enjoy to hear from you

Am doing well - making progress - and am not going to let Christmas side track me - rather I am going to honor my Lord and Savior by staying on track.

Have a great day everyone

Thought I should update here as it has been a month since last post.

I have had x-ray done of both knees as well as blood tests. X-ray showed that I do have arthritis in the knee but no damage as for as surgery goes yet. Said I need to exercise - preferably walking but need to makes sure I don't over do it but need to get in enough.

Blood work should that I am now a diabetic - can be controlled by diet and exercise at this time. Doc wants me to continue monitoring daily my glucose levels, to get off all processed food, anything sugary such as pastery, and things that are high carbs such as bread, potatoes, rice, spaghetti along with sugary drinks.

I am doing well with the changes - biggest change has been the walking. When I started out using my spark activity tracker (spat) I was recording under 1/2 mile a day. Yesterday I recorded 1.58 miles I have now logged in 39.04 miles walked and am looking to hit the 60 mile walked by the end of the year.

Food wise has improved also. Mind you the last few days have eaten more bread and some potatoes so need to curb that getting in place more green veggs.

Stats for today are as follow

October 31 weighed in at 310 = highest recorded weight
November 30 weighed in at 300 = down 10 pounds
December 13 2013 weighed in at 297.7
Goal is to lose 1 pound per week and am on track - a little ahead of the game
Doc wants me to have lost 60 pounds by this time next year - and I am going to do that plus

Blood pressure
131 / 72

Pulse
72

Glucose
6.5 = need to lower this - has been lower the last 3 weeks but due to a few bad choices in the last few days is up again

Praying that you are all well

Please remember the reason for the season = put Christ 1st with all the other stressful things at the bottom.

Marilyn, sorry to hear about your knee problems. But you are staying moving, so that's a good thing. I saw a motivation picture that said, "It doesn't matter how slowly you go, as long as you keep moving." So hang in there. I will say a prayer for your knee.

Thought I should check in - I have been hear daily to huddle and read the messages but otherwise falling off the wagon so to speak

Have now developed knee problems which I don't like - just another 'illness' due to age and not taking care of my body.

Yesterday I decided to do something about my inactivity. Though it made my knee hurt for about 30 minutes I got up and walked around the house till I got enough steps on my spark activity tracker to record 1/2 walked. And I feel so good I did it. I got it down in the evening also which is new for me.

So I am about to go and do it again today - I have just about completed all my checking in here on sparks - just finishing up huddling on all the groups - then I will get up and move. Have 96 steps recorded so far and need just over 1,000 to get in the 1/2 mile - with a sore knee I walk for about 3 minutes then stop for 1 and then get going again. I am planning to work it all in now so that the 1/2 mile goal will be accomplished before lunch. Then any other steps added will be a bonus! !

Have a great day everyone - know that you are loved and that you can accomplish anything with the Lord as your coach

Glad your motivation resurfaced, Kalewine! Mine has been playing a bit of hide and seek, too. I just recently started looking at my teams again, so my apologies for popping up so sporadically! emoticon

I recently changed to a new eating plan-an anti-inflammatory plan. It is helping my chronic pain so far, though not completely eliminating it. I'll take it, though! The change has been great. And I'm finally losing weight. I hope I can sustain this change for the long term. I'm thinking that's where the prayer comes in.

love y'all and hope you're doing well.

"MCDIDDLYD" Update:

Hi team, sorry I have been away for so long. First my daughter from Washington D.C. came down to Georgia to my house for a visit. Well, she got so sick and in so much pain. Long story short she had to have surgery she had gall stones. I had to look after her for a month.

Then we had a dear friend to pass away. After that one of my husbands friend from Tennessee came down to visit for a few days.

Then while all this was going on, you know I was in so much pain. I had to go to the doctor with my back and neck. They put a shot in my neck and then they put one in my low back with an x-ray. I have been feeling like I was just going to die at times. All they do is keep upping my pain med, but I do understand that is all they can do for me. For those of you that don't know about my health problems just go to my home page and you can read about me there. Also my knee that I had surgery on months ago didn't help one little bit I'm still in pain with it. I'm so sorry for being gone so long, I have missed all of you so much. I'm still in a lot of pain everyday so I will get on-line as much as I can. I know it want be everyday like I use too. Please know all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Please I beg you to keep me in yours, for I don't know how much more I can take with this pain.

Hello everyone

My name is Amy, I have been with SPARK since 2009. The past year my life had some very tough struggles. In October 2012 I was diagnosed with lung cancer (my third cancer diagnosis). In January 2013 my mom passed away very unexpectedly. I moved my family from Massachusetts to WV so I could become my dad's care giver. I put my career as a Respiratory Therapist on hold for now. Family is priority. And since moving we joined a church that is truly amazing. I think God had this plan all along for us. My family truly are very spiritually happy for the first time in forever. I am now trying to find a happy balance in my life and need to get back to my SPARK family.

Hello all, I'm new and just wanted to share a scripture with you this morning:

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Hi, I just joined the team and wanted to share I started attending a Beth Moore Bible study at church a couple of weeks ago. Here was my attitude I don't know what in the world I am supposed to work on now that I have over come many of my issues. Two weeks in and let me tell you God has a sense of humor. Seems like every insecurity I was sitting on has come to the surface. Be careful what you say. Anyways have a great day!!

Good morning to all. I'm new and just want to introduce myself. I also would like to share a post with you that my daughter shared with me yesterday.
Get Back in the Game
When God sees you do your part, He will do His part. He will give you a new life. That means He will restore your health, give you new opportunities, new relationships. He will give you a new perspective. You will see that even though it's painful, it is not the end. Even though it was unfair, it is not over. There is still life after the sickness, life after the divorrce, life after the bad break. A full life is still in front of you. Today, arise and let God's glory shine all over you!
Let's all do our part today so that God may do His part for us in whatever area we need Him to. Let's let God's glory shine all over us!!!
Praise our sweet Jesus!!
Tammy

Hi everyone, I have returned to SP to make my Temple a priority. I also think about how we would never neglect our churches, yet we neglect where God really lives...in MY body! I must make this a priority for His sake. I have also started a new team, "Relational Overeating" if you would care to join, I would LOVE to have you...I know I'm not the only Christian woman who runs to food to medicate when my husband wounds my soul. Hugs to you all!

Marilyns65 - I am praying for you to practice your healthy habits daily. It can be so hard when we look at the big mountain in front of us called weight loss. But if we just concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other by making the best choices we can each time we are faced with a choice, we'll find that we climbed that mountain before we know it. I'm not saying weight loss is easy, I'm saying we make it so hard, when it doesn't have to be that hard. I'll continue to pray for you.

I am so sorry seems I have not posted here in 60 days - not good at all . Life seemed to get in the way but I am here

Am struggling a lot with the weight - have gained rather than lost - and am finding that difficult to deal with - have never been this heavy and don't like it at all.

I know what I need to do but just don't get around to doing it - am not active enough and that is a big problem.

So with the Lord's help I am going to take it one day at a time, making I sure I eat healthy and get in at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. I need to do this for me - I know I have let my body get to this weight without thinking of the consequence let alone thinking what I have done to the temple of God. So will have to do what is necessary to change it all around

Need all the support I can get

Praying that all you wonderful ladies are doing well

PRETTYGMA6, I kicked the soda habit years ago, and let me tell you, it was HARD. DP was a favorite. I made a goal to not drink it for a whole year. After the year without it, it wasn't so hard to not drink it. Every now and then I'll have a soda, but I go months at a time without it. Many prayers go out to you as you try to kick this habit.

Update for me: I'm adding some work hours. This week I'm up to 15.5 hours of teaching dance and Pilates. Soon I will be adding another dance class working on some technical dance issues the gymnastics team is having. Yay for more hours! The hubbs and I are ministering to some international students at the local university. We are a host family for 3 students (from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan), we help run an English club, we attend a weekly lunch with internationals, and my husband started playing soccer with internationals on a weekly basis recently (and I go to watch and share snacks). We are having a game night for some of our international friends. So we are staying busy. Work keeps me exercising. Plus on the weekends I try to get in a run at least two days. I'm struggling with the food a bit. I just like chocolate too much and hate veggies too much.

I kicked DP for a month, stuck to more veggies/fruit, and finally added exercise into my life again. Dropped ten pounds, Praise God. But, i have been drinking some DP again. I know how hard it is to give up those chips (til Thanksgiving-wow-you can do it)....so Lord please help me to get a grip on Doctor Peppers. I started drinking them as a teenager and this habit has been the hardest to bust!! Sugar get out of my life. emoticon

What a short, quick road trip of emotions and learning! After meeting with the small group pastor and leader, then talking with my family, I decided against becoming a small group leader. The time commitment (a lot of training-online and meetings) and responsibility are things I can't take on. Taking women's bible study, and participating in a non-church group, (On top of my 8-5 job, my writing, my horses... oh and maintaining family life!)

But what a great opportunity to talk with my family and put priorities in order!

PS: I am pledging not to eat another potato chip until thanksgiving. I conqured alcohol, but those pesky chips... just not safe... (I'm so salt bloaty!)

Life is so amazing and blessed! I prayed about becoming a confident christian woman. I look at the bible study leaders, the pastor's wife and I want that peace and confidence that they have. In church on Sunday, they mentioned that we will be reading The Hole in our Gospel in the fall and they were looking for small group leaders, so I volunteered! I meet with the pastor who is in charge of that ministry today. I am so excited (I started reading the book, did some on-line research) and it is amazing. I was telling DH that I miss my volunteering and just want to spend more time this year with women's groups.

Just to let you know I'm alive and kicking. Went to church today with a headache and now it's gone until later on.

Well, yesterday just blew the blues from my soul! I had the most amazing day! Slept in (Saturday is my sleep in day), went to the local saddle club horse show (I found out about it "accidentally" -- through an outside attorney (I work for an attorney). This club is what we have been looking for! So we're joining -- once we get a trailer, we can haul our horses over at any time and ride/practice! Just the nicest people!!! Then took a nice long drive with my boyfriend and we visited our horses. It was just a wonderful day! Today is church in the early morning, then horse baths, dog bath, then me bath, then a bbq with church friends, then an AA meeting... and then a good long rest!

Good morning and T-G-I-F !!!!!!!!

I had a really rough week ("the mean girls" and my self esteem at work.) But I got through it and am better for it, I had already been getting myself back on track, it just gave me a bit more 'fire' to be successful at getting healthy again.

Big issue to work on is ME time! When I met my boyfriend, I was a single mom and spent so much more time with my horse and hobbies and home; even after we met, I still had more 'me time.' Ironically, now that we are living together, I spend less 'me time' and THAT IS WRONG! And now that my daughter has moved out, I really don't have any excuses

Have a great day! .

Sorry I've been gone but now I have a problem with my lower back and right hip so tomorrow I'll see the doctor and see if she says it's ok for the shot then I'll be happy person so I can move again cause now I'm in pain and it hurts me when I go down and up the stairs.

Last week I bought a pair of pj's and they have the words on the front of the shirt saying I love coffee and the bottoms has coffee beans and coffee cups and words on them and I love my new pj's.

Hello everyone old and new....today I'm both...lol Been gone for a few months or so, but I'm back...again. After my bout with kidney stones I just couldn't get back into the swing of things here so just let it lapse. Things have since gone back to their normal level of crazy so thought I'd come back and pick up where I left off. Luckily I only gained back around 2lbs in those few months I was away so I don't feel like a total failure...lol

But why oh why did Hostess have to come back....I was fine with never eating them again....then they came back and my kids begged....just one box mommy just one....well in the last few weeks that's turned into several and more than a few have made their way into my mouth as well. naughty naughty. So even in the midst of TTOM I'm vowing that as of now no more Hostess for me (except the rare occasional treat).

My garden is producing like crazy so I just need to eat out of there instead. Have a great rest of the week everyone.
