Tonight on this last night of November, I'm grateful for:

-A stockup trip to Trader Joe's on my way home from work rather than a busier time during the weekend (day time is pretty crazy there)!!
-Finding out their heirloom oranges will be available again this year, likely next week (GINA!!!) - they are rather small, but mighty on taste (and I had never heard of heirloom oranges in the past)
-A good solid week of exercise, meeting my enhanced goals for 3 weeks in a row now
-Leftover lentil soup, with added quinoa/brown rice/garlic, making it go even further and it was delish ...
-It's Friday!! I have a weekend to do what I want
-Plans to meet my old yoga instructor for our favorite yoga class Sunday evening
-A chair massage today at work
-My tendonitis improving quite a bit, also verified by the massage therapist
-A solid roof over my head
-My warm, comfortable bed, calling me now ...

Goodnight all ...

Stephanie

~ Bob's hot cereal *winks at Maha!* ;D

~ Grandma's who'll discuss questions out of left field (eg. why do you think sleep and death are linked? ie. how come they use the word sleep for death in the bible?); and:
~ being able to talk to someone of a different faith without it exploding in your face (thankful for it, but wish I had more of it)

~ when all else fails to pre-occupy my brain, I can get on spark.

~ being introduced to ...three... great gurus (Yogananda, Satchidananda, and Thubten)

~ Babaji and Krishna; pointing my brain at them makes me happy when my perspective is bleak; and that
~ there's no space between us (I may have thought it whilst in delusion on a schizophrenic "trip to Neptune," but it's true)....

~falling leaves--remind me the beat goes on.

~tea and walks--with which to pass the beat....

Feeling blessed...

- generosity of my employer towards my son's trip
- being proud mama of my lovely son who conducted himself professionally and with excellent manners in his meeting (so I'm told!)
- being strong physically in body, and also regaining my inner strength and center
- feeling like I am "me" and the peace it brings
- sharing - stories, "things", services, writings, strengths - sharing
- my excellent health, and for the wake up call and life changes that restored it in time
- music of ALL types, shared between generations - just recently my son and I were exploring the simalaritites between "good" music of several different genres, and why certain songs endure - for years, decades and even centuries
- for the memories and emotions music invokes in me
- pleasure in reading in bed before I fall asleep

Mind Wanting More

Only a beige slat of sun
above the horizon, like a shade pulled
not quite down. Otherwise,
clouds. Sea rippled here and
there. Birds reluctant to fly.
The mind wants a shaft of sun to
stir the grey porridge of clouds,
an osprey to stitch sea to sky
with its barred wings, some dramatic
music: a symphony, perhaps
a Chinese gong.

But the mind always
wants more than it has --
one more bright day of sun,
one more clear night in bed
with the moon; one more hour
to get the words right; one
more chance for the heart in hiding
to emerge from its thicket
in dried grasses -- as if this quiet day
with its tentative light weren't enough,
as if joy weren't strewn all around.

Weds gratitudes....
* Keeping commitment to work out M-W-F (calendared in as appointments)
* Anderson Cooper who had me laughing out loud while doing cardio...
* Rain, Rain, Rain... and hubby clearing gutters in it, after coming home to ankle deep water in front of our porch!
* No big puddles any more.
* Popcorn sprinkled with black truffle olive oil...OMG was it GOOD!
* And the highlight of the day....(as I put in my "letter to the editor" of the local paper)

In this day of sagging and hip hop, I Tunes and texting, corporate greed and competitive sports, I was honored to be present at the debut performance of the Folsom Lake College's Youth Chamber Orchestra....high school students with the discipline and desire to keep alive the music of the masters. Children (one, whose feet dangled from his chair because his legs were so short) who, guided by parents and mentors, will ensure the classics endure.

It is scary to see only gray hair at symphonic and operatic performances, big band or traditional jazz concerts....There has been a fear that this music will fade away, to be replaced by synthecized sounds, loud speakers and the pounding of heavy bass.

But tonight, my fears were set aside. I saw the shining faces of these kids, and my hope was restored. Ah....Bach, Schumann, Shostakovich....

Today, I am grateful for so much abundance in my life. There's no way this board is big enough to hold it all, but I'll start with this:

-A great strength training workout at lunch with my co-worker/exercise buddy
-The good advice from SparkPeople to find exercise buddies; I've been trying for 4+ years to find someone in my department to commit to 2x/weekly during lunch; it REALLY does help!!
-Making several holiday "resolves" to help keep myself healthy and sane during this crazy season
-Making plans for a repeat visit Friday or Saturday night to the luminary walk I went to last Friday night; it was an incredible walk and will be again, either alone, like I did last Friday, or with friends. Win-win-win as it's an inexpensive fundraiser, fun/beautiful AND exercise (the best was the live Native American flute music playing in the distance as I walked the paths under the beautiful moon and starry sky), or maybe it was the hot Louisburg Apple Cider, tough call - LOL
-Taking my sweetie out to dinner tonight hoping it cheers her a bit as she's been dealing with both sciatica and a nasty MS symptom that is also painful; double whammy
-Making a commitment to volunteer 6 hours of a Saturday in December to help out the Rose Brooks Center (housing for women and children escaping domestic violence situations); I was heavily involved with the organization about 10 years ago for 2-3 years until I got burned out. Feels good to help them out a little bit again and my company will donate $20/hour for my time!!

Have an excellent evening!!

Tonight, before I sleep, I am grateful for all of this, and so much more:

-Words with Friends and getting my partner hooked; it's a good game to help her try and focus, it can be done from bed, and she's enjoying it
-Waking at 5:30 a.m. with a sneezing fit, only to find three kitties at the foot of the bed, one laying right next to the others all in a row, bellies up!! What a sight - and of course, much tummy love and subsequent purring ensued, for about 2 minutes until I was back asleep!! :-)
-Kitty routines; they vary from kitty to kitty
-20 minutes of cardio again today, a day with little inspiration as it was quite cold and dreary with a few snow flurries, so I'm happy with it
-Teamwork for a healthy dinner, including our favorite salad that we never seem to tire of (lettuce, walnuts, red onion, cranberries and apple)
-An abundance of coats, blankets, a solid roof and, of course, central heat - all things that shelter me from the cold

Goodnight all ...

I am thankful

- riding in the snow this weekend, and loving time with my horse
- my mom will get to go home to California in January
- getting a few things done that needed doing and being content with baby steps
- for the power and knowledge to pull myself out of a black place
- my color printer at home
- remote access to work server
- the escape of reading
- loving friends and family and people in my life
- a funny movie coming on TV just after it had come up in a conversation, and getting to watch it with my son
- being healthy, having a home, and a full pantry and freezer

Monday morning gratitudes:

~ A weekend away from work and prep reminding me how very much I love and embrace the work I do...in everyday life as well as in my formal job duties. They are much the same!
~ Loving family and friends.
~ The "I am not my body" video posted by Stephanie and mentioned by Maha below. An amazing way to start my week of noticing...
~ The four tiny rescue puppies who graced our house this weekend...and Max, their mom -- likely a Joplin tornado dog who now has a loving forever home (as do two of the puppies!).
~ Motion and movement.
~ Healthy foods and hot coffee/tea to nourish and delight me.
~ Inspiration from my SparkFriends and beyond!
~ Birdfeeders, dried perennials, bushes, trees, and water in our yard providing nourishment and shelter for the birds and squirrels -- and a delightful gift for our ears and eyes.
~ Musicians and poets, who provide gifts daily to bless my heart and soul.

Blessings and joy to all!

Giving thanks this Sunday evening
* For company gone and our home restored to its "normal" state of quiet and peace.
* For friends dropping by to help eat up leftovers last night.
* For kitchen clean (after two thanksgiving meals prepared in two days!) table unset, and all orange and earthy decorations put away
* For Whole Foods giving us two organic, pasture raised turkeys, for 60% off, after a glitch in what they reserved for us!
* For freezer being full of two full turkeys, cooked turkey leftovers from two turkeys, 6 quarts of broth and fixings for lots of soup down the road.
* For Costco continuing to carry organic raspberries at this time of year. CHEAP. And organic apples, pears and sweet potatoes. YUM.
* For brlliant sunset shining on trees, making them almost neon purple, red and gold.
* For humor.
* For start overs....meeting a new personal trainer tomorrow morning.
* For flannel nighties
* For fresh air
* For early to bed nights.
* And so on, and so on...and so many more, but not to bore anyone, I will keep them in my heart.

Tonight, as I wind down from a busy day, I focus again on all that I have to be grateful for, including:

-20 minutes on the recumbent bike just a bit ago; I had almost no motivation today and am pleased that I kept up my consistency as 20 minutes is far better than NO minutes
-My incredibly understanding partner and the excellent communication we share
-My kitties; all three bring joy and laughter on a daily basis
-My comfortable home, a safe haven for me in many types of storms
-Recognizing and honoring my imperfections in a healthy lifestyle; I can't be 100% 100% of the time!! If I did something not so great, such as not eating my best today, I can recognize that I stayed at the LOW end of my calories range (after I go eat a couple of clementines, I will actually make it to the low end) and I did 20 minutes of light exercise
-Always, always, always - my health and the many things I can still do to try and stay healthy, while I see so many who cannot due to debilitating diseases
-Two weeks of staying on track with strength training; and I had an awesome ST workout on Friday, when my co-worker/accountability partner ditched our agreed upon plan to go to lunch and shopping with her daughters; she made her choice, I made mine!!

Goodnight all ..

At first dreams seem impossible, then improbable, then inevitable.
-- Christopher Reeve

Good morning,

Bless dear Christopher Reeve's dreaming. For some time he was a lonely voice out there advocating the efficacy of stem cell research -- may we all be dreamers!

As I prepare to spend the day on two papers, I first take time to think about some of the abundance in and about me~~

~ exactly one month from now, on Dec 25, I will be boarding a plane for South America

~ delicious, healthy foods in the house, making it so easy for me to refuel myself as I move through the day

~ www.karmatube.org/videos.php?id=3576 -- You Are Not Your Body, the extraordinary TED talk Stephanie mentioned

~ all the wonderful resources that DailyGood, KarmaTube (both part of the great ServiceSpace.org project), and TED offer

~ a comfortable space to live, play, and do my work in

Blessed be,

Tonight, before I go to bed, I thinking again about all I have to be grateful for, including:

-An excellent full body strength training workout today, being one of three people in the gym at work
-Excellent brisk walk tonight at a luminary walk that was very well done in a beautiful area, for a great cause
-Louisburg Apple Cider, warm on a cool, crisp night
-Native American flute music performed live in the woodsier sections of the luminary walk, quite amazing and beautiful on a clear, starry night under a gorgeous moon
-A great day for exercise for me overall
-A leisurely, overdue lunch with a friend
-My warm and comfortable bed, luring me to another solid night of rest, setting my intentions for such

Today I am deeply grateful for:
~ Lots of wonderful sharing during our traditional time preceding thanksgiving dinner when we stand in a circle, holding hands and say something we are grateful for. In particular, my daughter being especially verbose and thanking me and her father for our patience raising her...
~ The joy of watching Lula play with her "uncle" figure, so entertaining
~ Relationships recharged
~ Coming home after a fantastic Thanksgiving and being able to relax in quiet peacefulness
~ Communication with long distance friend

Gratitude ...

- not having anything to worry about....yes, responsibilities, challenges ahead, and life's daily stresses - of course. But nothing eating at the pit of my stomach or interrupting my happy thoughts. This is an amazing, and somewhat new to me, feeling
- enjoying the company of teenagers in the house last night
- the freedom I have to make my own choices
- with a sale bin product and an aging blow dryer, taming the beast known as my crazy curly hair, and feeling good about my appearance
- knowing that the Christmas lights are already strung (althought not yet lit) and all outdoor furniture and ornaments stored away as we ready for snow and colder temps this weekend - for once I was prepared!!
- looking forward to the weekend as there was a time I didn't

Tonight, on this "official" day of Thanksgiving, I am honored to be involved in this community that focuses on gratitude each and every day. I am grateful for:

-Abundant healthy food to put in my body
-NOT overindulging today when there was plenty of food to make it possible to do so
-The beautiful weather and NO rain, so our plan of eating outside came to fruition and it was an awesome day
-A wonderful Asian woman who showed several of us today after dinner how to make her pad thai and then sent some of it home with each of us
-Receiving a gift today
-My incredible partner and her amazing spirit that helps her deal with daily pain
-My comfortable bed that is now calling me

Happy Thanksgiving to my ThanksGiving community!!

I feel so blessed today....living in a country that actually sets aside a day, every year, to do what we do EVERY day. Just being grateful....

So tonight, I appreciate many many blessings
* A local meat market and deli whose owner was willing to donate 30 meals (each including a turkey, two boxes filled with potatoes, yams, celery onions, rolls, buter, cornbread stuffing, broccoli and a pie) and DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH FAMILIES TO TAKE THEM! So the owner posted on facebook that they were looking for needy families. I was able to come up with two...and within an hour, all thirty were spoken for.
* Our neighbors who, from the outside, look like an affluent family, but who are seriously struggling and wondering how they are going to make it... Such wonderful people who initially refused to accept "charity" but then with tears in their eyes, said yes, we can use the food. He was laid off last year, and out of work for several months, and they have not yet recovered from it. The two of them, plus their two boys 6'3" and 6'2" and the daughter and boyfriend...will all eat well tomorrow!
* My dad arrived safely and is here to share the holiday with us
* Memories of holidays past
* My willngness to let go of something I love to do in the morning (the 5K Turkey Trot for the food bank) because my body is saying no. You are NOT superwoman, Kathy....
* My hubby who vacumned without complaining today
* A surprise phone call from a former co-worker
* All of you, who share this wonderful practice...

But today we kneel only to truth, follow only beauty, and obey only love.
-- Kahlil Gibran

Good morning,

This morning I sing praise~~

~ others trying to figure out ways for me not be alone tomorrow, while I'm content in my aloneness, although I'll check to see if the local Episcopal Church needs help serving as a way of reaching out to others who aren't feeling content

~ so aware of the importance of practicing thanks giving every day (huh team!)

~ food is my medicine and I too am grateful for so many healthy organic options

~ after a several day pause I pedaled 20 miles on my bicycle yesterday

~so ready for a class at Cedar Rock Yoga this morning

~ in my ongoing quest for items for Ecuador, (and at a recommendation from a friend who is a blue-ribbon shopper, unlike me) I am meeting a friend to scour Salvation Army for shoes and raincoats after yoga

~ MAJOR success at the local consignment shop on Monday

Blessed be,
xox
