Have to repost this one, Maha..."Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life."
-- Samuel Ullman
When my dad was toasting my aunts and my sister at the birthday party this past weekend, he mentioned the nicest compliment he ever received was when someone told him what they enjoyed most...the fact that my dad never grew up.

So, along with being thankful for the youthful spirit that passes through the generations of our family, I am grateful for
* Getting that young 90 year old parent to the airport for a safe flight home today.
* That we have all defused from the stress of the weekend
* For a casual, help-us-clean-up-the-leftovers dinner with our neighbors
* For FINALLY having some time to sit and watch three days worth of recorded Olympic games...zipping through beach volley ball (not my fav) and commercials. (I should be caught up to watch live within a day or so)
* That friends trust me enough to share confidences...
* For my shoulders, which currently are big enough and soft enough to absorb the tears of several friends, each dealing with their own crisis and horrifically painful issues right now.
* For knowing after being up almost all night last night (Yup. My sister is almost in town...) I should sleep well tonight.

Thankful beyond words tonight
* That the fiasco of this day is behind me
* For staying calm despite the storm
* That I have the life I do, and actually have developed reasonable coping skills
* For my husband, who is so tolerant and supportive at times, and who really is my best friend
* A warm summer evening after the chaos....sitting outside in the front yard, visiting with neighbors, laughing about the events of the day, and just feeling good inside...

Grateful this Saturday
* For my husband who has worked so hard in the yard this week!
* For sharing Leonard Cohen music last night....which brought to mind so many amazing artists of the 60's-70's and the memories that went along with all of their music....
* For the kindness of strangers...especially the young man who offered to help when he saw struggling with heavy items at Costco
* For tomorrow's big birthday party numbers DRAMATICALLY dwindling (down eight more today alone!) which makes the celebration far more manageable.
* That despite it being summer, my asthma is well controlled this year...think once again cutting out artificial anything has anything to do with that?
* For the stirring of motivation inspired by the incredible Olympic athletes provide.

-kathy and this amazing forum
-seeing my dear friends participating in this healing ritual
Now I feel like I can continue to respark because I have completed one of the most important keys to my success- GRATITUDE!!!

Thankful for...

- Getting back on the elliptical after months away. Six minutes later and the lungs are burning, heart racing, legs cramping. Reminder of the progress I made back when I was doing this regularly

- A day less scheduled - still lots to do but with some welcome flexibility

- Intentions and the ability to turn them into actions

Friday night gratitudes
* Opening of the Olympics. And the anticipated joy of watching them over the next two weeks!
* Knowing my nieces are in London!
* Furniture re-arranged, tables readied, guest list dwindling (thank you, thank you) to a reasonable number for Sunday's big bash
* Hubby got a hair cut
* Cool night for good sleep
* Crushed egg shells for snail control (third attempt at basil this year!)
* My own imperfect, but comfy life.

Today as I end my work week, I am grateful for:

-A weekend that requires only a few small errands, but LOTS of R&R
-My partner even being in the position to offer to make dinner tonight (frankly, I would be happy with just a sandwich)
-A "quiet room" available at work to help rid myself of a small headache
-The Olympics that will probably fill a fair share of my space this weekend
-Potentially dangerous situation with one of our kittens that has tightened our security to make sure it never happens again
-Implementing a previously discussed plan for evenings at home

Have a great weekend!

Wonderful gratitudes all - Chopra is right, “I am grateful for everything in my life, knowing all is in perfect, divine order.”

On this Friday, I continue to be blessed and am grateful for
- Jet - I can relate - 60 degree morning with clear blue skies - makes me come alive!
- a little rain last night mixed with some lightning and wind
- big weekend plans including cheering ONEKIDSMOM during her first TRI
- lunch with a colleague who is starting a new adventure
- bringing projects to fruition

I am almost tearfully grateful for a cool night and morning. I can sit on the porch. I can contemplate doing some yard work. I won't have to leave 15 minutes early to meet my friend for breakfast so I have time to mop myself up.
I don't really realize the extent to which heat stresses me until we get a little respite. And oh, sitting on the porch I'm noticing that the lawns, which were brittle and crunchy just a week ago have also gone back to green now that we've had several rainfalls.
Ah, deep sigh of contentment from Wisconsin!

Thankful for...

- calm after a horrible storm last night
- a potential life-changing connection for one of the military families we serve (and the reminder that we are making a difference at a time when I'm feeling frustrated with what it takes to stay afloat as a one woman nonprofit).
- flexible work that allows me to "say yes" to my kids

Tonight's gratitudes
* Healing conversation with aunt
* Getting three years worth of junk cleared out of my office today
* "Finding" my hubby, after I found him missing this morning when I awakened. Mystery solved when he showed up with the car that had been in the shop a few miles away. Decided to take a long walk to get it, but forgot to leave a note!
* My friend was actually DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL after 30 full days! A miracle!
* Finding the dead bird that was smelling up the back yard.
* Our snuggly cats.

Today, as I end my work day, I have so much to be grateful for, including:

-Sherrie's realization about grieving; it's always an odd process with no set pattern or reasoning, isn't it?
-Maha's realizations about solitude
-My computer monitor dying this morning, which will FORCE me to finally go get a new computer
-Upcoming tax weekend to take advantage of for large computer purchase
-Chai tea; really weird, but even in the heat, I've been so enjoying my hot tea
-Rain, rain and rain, all through the night
-Solid exercise two days in a row that showed immediate results in my monthly blood pressure screening yesterday at work (proving that what they say is true - you can see results within mere hours of exercise)
-SparkPeople, with its many offerings of information and support, including each and every one of you!
-Having to let go of a "very important to me" volunteer commitment for a variety of reasons, despite it making me very sad, and taking the final steps to end that commitment today, knowing that I tried as best I could but cannot control a teenager's choices or her family's lack of funds

Have an excellent evening!!!

for quiet after our busyness
for friends happy to see us
for all the blessings of this life.

Thankful for...

- the projects off my "to do list"
- the 17 y/o DD pouting that my littlest one being home from camp sick today robs her of my undivided attention (because that means she still wants Mommy time).
- moving forward even when feeling stuck
- the scale kindly edging gently away from the "I won't go over ___lbs" boundary that it crossed yesterday.

Grateful tonight
* For getting through the day on only three and a half hours sleep (yup. drank a bunch of caffiene too late...).
* For climbing out of bed and being productive when I realized sleeping was a hopeless dream last night.
* That the nightmare that woke me wasn't "real"
* That I am able to be here for a friend whose nightmare IS real.
* For a dear friend being discharged from the hospital tomorrow, a full 29 days after a nine hour SUCESSFUL surgery to remove a rare tumor that did not respond to other forms of treatment. Prognosis good....
* Her courage and determination while battling for months with insurance companies (exhausted all levels of appeal before the state overturned the decision!) and the support of her husband in all of this.

When we cling to thoughts and memories, we are clinging to what cannot be grasped. When we touch these phantoms and let them go, we may discover a space, a break in the chatter, a glimpse of open sky. This is our birthright—the wisdom with which we were born, the vast unfolding display of primordial richness, primordial openness, primordial wisdom itself. When one thought has ended and another has not yet begun, we can rest in that space.
-- Pema Chodron

Good morning,

Here to give thanks~~

~ for awareness of the witness Self

~ for the joy of collaboration with the friend who will arrive soon for our last decluttering date here (tomorrow at her place)

~ indulging in a delicious cup of coffee this morning with my scant 5 hours of sleep leaving me less than bouncy (to make an understatement)

~ in spite of my ongoing sense of solitude, knowing that there are those few in my life with deep understanding of who I am

~ two friends assisting me in posting some items of eBay and Craig's List -- hallelujah!

Blessed be,

Wonderful gratitudes all - particularly like accepting "some situations do not have answers". I've been finding the 'answers' are there and I've only started to 'see' them...

On this Wednesday, I continue to be blessed and am thankful for
- this discussion forum and the joy we bring each other and the world by proclaiming our hearts
- the chance of rain and the relief that will bring (even Nebraskans are getting grouchy)
- a good walk/run this morning - building that heart muscle
- my therapists - radiation and zero balance - women with the "Right Stuff" to keep me healthy and happy
- Chopra meditations and the opportunity to share the calming growth they bring me

~ son's excitement about hopes/plans to travel for six months
~ accepting that some situations do not have answers

Thankful for

- the jeweler who helped me pick and engrave a beautiful (and affordable) ring to commemorate the one year anniversary of my sister's death

- the car dealership that dealt kindly and honestly with us as we had to replace my DD's first car from a dealer not so similarly inclined

- the ability to afford to replace the car and to find a home for the first one where it's much needed (and out of state where NJ's impossible car regs won't impact it being able to be driven). So what felt like having thrown a lot of money out the window will now help a young family out (which eases my mind tremendously).

- recognizing that I'm struggling even as I'm having a hard time getting out of the fog. Giving myself permission to feel crappy and knowing that it's okay.

just this second, letting go of needing to have all the answers and fix everything (which goes against my grain lol).

Thankful tonight, for all of you....even though I don't comment on your posts, I appreciate them, AND you, for sharing....(wish there was a "like" button as in facebook!)

Also...
* For my first release of ladybugs into the garden, and being able to giggle as they crawled up my legs and arms...was NOT very successful at first attempt, but have a few more nights to practice!
* For, (yes, she said with a gag) finding an ashtray, for my aunt and her friends, at her big birthday party this weekend. Only had to go three places to find one! Did you know the Dollar Tree doesn't have any?
* For great conversation with my Dad tonight, who thoroughly enjoyed visit from son and great grandkids.
* For being able to eat for the first time in two days...
* For old Alfred Hitcock movies - Last night, Family Plot. Tonight, The Man Who Knew Too Much.
-----oops, almost forgot----
The humbling experience of my volunteer work. Reminds me everyday of the saying..."There but for the grace of God, go I"
I am SO blessed to be able to do this.

Today, as I end my work day, I focus once again on all that I have to be grateful for, including:

-My partner's guardian angel, whoever it is, that kept her from serious harm during another horrid fall yesterday (landing flat, literally, on her face on a hardwood floor), with no fractures of the head, neck, eye or nose, albeit a very "bruiser-like" appearance with a pretty spectacularly colored black/blue/red/purple forehead/nose/eye and 5 stitches in her left lower eyelid, along with some major pain from the neck whiplash - YIKES!!
-My supportive manager and co-workers who hollered at me to let them know what was up when I could as I was racing out the door
-Our wonderful house cleaner, who happened to be there - called 911, then me, then cleaned up three towels worth of blood (whew!! I owe her for that one alone)
-Forcing myself to go play my tennis match at 7:30 tonight, despite the heat and wanting to be home with my partner, just because I really need the exercise and know it will do me good
-Getting through the first few days of a week that thus far, has been just one thing after another, today at work being particularly difficult, as each and every part of my work was like pulling teeth from others, nothing easy, every little thing required followup and explanation
-air conditioning, Air Conditioning and AIR CONDITIONING, wow, no wonder we live to a much older age these days
-This practice, that helps keep me sane during lots of insanity

This Tuesday morning I give thanks ...

~ for all of you. Yesterday, I went to my SparkPage for the first time in many months. When I started reading your comments and SparkGoodie notes, I was overwhelmed and humbled with gratitude for your kindness, encouragement and concern. Thank you all, my cyberfriends!

~ met two quite amazing women last night. I learned a lot about being in a healthy, loving relationship from just watching them interact for a few hours. I feel blessed to have been included.

~ sharing feminine energy over dinner with dear friends tonight

~ almost daily email correspondence with two dear cousins -- one in Japan and the other in Florida. Reading their almost daily emails is a joy. We share the mundane details of life, the big events and the profound insights as well as the highs and lows. It couldn't get any better.

~ waking up in a good frame of mind re: work, life, etc. It's been a bit of a struggle the past few weeks.

~ Determined to make good food choices today after a week or so of poor choices (corresponds to the emotional struggle above). Emotional eating is an ongoing challenge.

~ Bob, I'm competing with you on length here.

~ as always, a life lived fully, meaningful possibilities and freedom to choose.

Shine,
Sandra

~ Teccino, a nice alternative this morning

~ nice morning chat with Sandra which resulted in brunch date this morning!

Thankful tonight for all the errands I took care of today, including
* For finding a canopy on sale to provide shade for the "smoking section" (ugh) that has to go in our front yard next Sunday (NO one is allowed to smoke in the back where the A/C and the sliding doors are. And one of my aunts, as well as her friends, are heavy smokers....
* For getting my new glasses and actually being able to see better!
* For finding lady bugs at the hardware store so I can organically rid my roses of aphids.
* For finding my favorite (now discontinued) eye liner on ebay MUCH cheaper than I originally paid for it...
* And finally....drum roll....for my husband, who after almost 15 years and lots of nagging on my part, FINALLYemptied out one of his two storage sheds.

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
--Teihard deChardin

Good afternoon!

After being away yesterday I've decided to enter the sanctuary of gratitude and let its power immerse me with the courage that I at this moment lack, knowing the truth of deChardin's statement, which I borrowed from KaliGirl's profile quotes. Giving thanks~~

~ knowing with certainty that: "Everything in life is temporary. So if things are going well, enjoy it because it won't last forever. And if things are going bad, don't worry. It can't last forever either." (FB post)

~ reaching out to a friend in spite of my trepidation of a "no"

~ the ultimately solitary nature of existence, especially without the feeling of support (as Pema Chodron says, "Existence is groundless.")

~ trying to gain better understanding of my body/weight fluctuations and how I can better manage them

~ some meaningful dialogue with the buddy I went to the prison gathering with last night

Blessed be,

Thankful tonight, for this lovely group of friends...AND...
* For music - today, consisting of music used during a whirling dirvish ceremony, progressing to Keali'i Reichel then on to Pete Seeger and the Weavers, Woody and Arlo Guthrie...
* Getting more business taken care of....such as getting paperwork for our "unclaimed money" at the state. Hubby had a whopping $7.16. I had $77 from overpaying a credit card in 1998.
* People we met along the way today
* Korean BBQ with the most amazing veggies, pickles and side dishes
* Feeling overwhelmed with a party I am throwing, but being able to keep a sense of humor at the bizzareness of it all....the most eclectic group one would EVER run across!

Better words than mine:

Eagle Poem

To pray you open your whole self
To sky, to earth, to sun, to moon
To one whole voice that is you.
And know there is more
That you can't see, can't hear
Can't know except in moments
Steadily growing, and in languages
That aren't always sound but other
Circles of motion.
Like eagle that Sunday morning
Over Salt River. Circles in blue sky
In wind, swept our hearts clean
With sacred wings.
We see you, see ourselves and know
That we must take the utmost care
And kindness in all things.
Breathe in, knowing we are made of
All this, and breathe, knowing
We are truly blessed because we
Were born, and die soon, within a
True circle of motion,
Like eagle rounding out the morning
Inside us.
We pray that it will be done
In beauty.
In beauty.

Tonight, gratitude for "seeing" all these old familiar faces...some who haven't been here for a while, and some who are so constant I miss them if they don't show up for even one day!

Also grateful
* For the sounds of crickets and frogs. Night time music in our neighborhood.
* For a friend cancelling lunch which gave me the impetus to take care of some long overdue business.
* For husband starting to clean out garage, and starting to let go of clutter (After 25 years!)
* For Cinema Paradisa, one of my favorite "cinemas", that I recorded and got part way through once again
* For carpool lanes when driving with hubby in commuter traffic.

~~~Kathy~~~
Maha, glad you liked the px.!!! Thanks for your comments! Steph, I love a strong woman (mister!!!!!).
Ok, after my doo I am having trouble with Matisyahu’s album cover. Girrrrrrrrl get a doo!!!
Today I am thankful for:
*getting a great doo yesterday, and I am very thankful my gay designer persona didn’t come out, and put off my very nice gay stylist. I have had new employees during the spring planting season, swear I was gay. Boys, boys, I need mauve, and a fluffy textured perennial here!!!
*getting in a good work flow in the office, with all my tech. I’ve been changing around how I do things for a year, and am really getting comfortable and more productive.
*working out the problem with my Nuance Speech Recognition program on my own. It will really help with my hand problems- particular my posting on the site.
*getting things started seeing about my neck. I saw my Internist, who shot x-rays, and wrote a script for PT. If it doesn’t get better in a month, then an MRI, and he’ll recommend me to the Neuro-surgeon I found, if needed. So, a lot of pain still, but a path.
*going over my blood work from my last physical, to check for questions for him today, and getting some good news, and some very sobering news, that will help kick me in the old caboose.
*getting some invoices out, even though I am not out of money. Trust me, it’s big for me.
take care, bob
