Happy New year to all of you my dear friends!!!!
and a story... my daughter MYRA34 introduced me to sparkpeopleand she worked really hard all summer, and then school started so she's been too busy with the getting things ready for the kids so she hasnt been following SP with tracking but she told me a funny story. She lives in Boston where it and so she has been shovling out her car from all the but she has a BIG problem now....her jeans kept falling and she had to buy new ones that fit cause it was too hard to hold one's pants up and shovel....she has kept her in a four pound range since sept. from her slightly proud mom

I think you can modify if you don't have a ball. The only reason to buy one would be if you're going to keep using it. I can't see how to improvise a stability ball with anything in the home. When I wanted to do some of the swimsuit bootcamp videos at work I didn't have dumbbells, so I went out into the warehouse and looked around. Ended up borrowing 2 one and a half pound bolts from one of our customers stock! But they worked, so that's what counted! Can you picture a driver coming into the office and me doing bicep curls with 2 bolts? LOL!
This will probably be my last posting on December Chatting so I want to wish everyone a safe, healthy, Happy New Year's Eve! Drive carefully if you're going out tonight, and have a good time. See you next year!

I don't have a stability ball but it said some of the exercises can be modified if you don't have the equipment. I'll see how it goes and if I really need to buy one I will.

I enjoyed doing the swimsuit Bootcamp, so signed up for this - my only concern is that you should have a stability ball, which we do, but not a lot of room to use it! I might have to improvise a bit on the exercises, but am sure I can get the benefit from them.

Hey Lynn! My daughter talked me in to joining the New You Bootcamp too. I would like to lose 10 pounds by the end of January. Not sure exactly how that team works, but guess I'll find out!

Well, December and 2008 is almost gone. Got weighed and measured today - bad news - gained 3 pounds from last month (those darn Christmas cookies!)BUT - good news - lost 2.25"! So I can't have another cookie until I lose a pound, and I've been eating more fruits & veggies to fill me up. I signed up for the New You Bootcamp and hope to lose 5 pounds by the end of January. Which made me think about a new challenge for this week - see what I've chosen as the last challenge for 2008!

Hope everyone has a very Merry and blessed Christmas! Our weather was hairy for a while Wednesday, but today is sunny. Made traveling (not far) nice. And remember, it's okay to indulge a bit, but tomorrow it's back on good behavior!

Jannie, our thoughts and prayers are with you, and thank God there are people like you who step up and make the needed arrangements when others cannot find the time!
MVMEME - wishing your mom the best with her chemo treatment! Hope your brother arrives safe and sound.
Brought Dad home last night. Knew he was feeling better - he criticized my driving the whole way home! My mom finally said, "Watch it, she's gonna throw you out of the car!" Now if he'd just take it easy and doesn't try to do too much too soon - fat chance! I went right from work to my parents house to pick Mom up, then to the hospital, and by the time we got him out and home it was after 8 PM and I was cold and starving! Went home, made myself some Weight Watcher's whole grain toast, EggBeaters, and as a treat, 3 pieces of bacon, with a glass of skim milk. Then collapsed in front of the tv and fell asleep! Jenise woke me up and told me to get to bed!

Lynn, you have really been busy!! Sorry to hear about all the troubles with your dad. Hope he gets to come home today. My aunt that I"ve taken care of for several years passed away early yesterday morning. She had pneumonia and went really fast. I'm handling all the arrangements and everything as my sister "can't take time off from work". The next couple of days are gonna be crazy, but I'll deal with it. Merry Christmas to everyone!!

these family health issues are harder around the holidays...glad you will be able to bring dad home...is he at Darthmouth...
you get extra points for tracking all your eating it would be nice if there were a generic cookie of way too many calories and then it might slow me down
mom starts chemo today...my brother's flight from burlington to cleveland was cancelled due to weather...hopefully he gets there tomorrow

Update: Saturday took my mom to see my dad in the hospital. He's in good spirits, joking with the nurses and doctors. It's a circle with him - he's had colon cancer, prostate cancer, quadruple bypass, now his kidneys are failing - so medication for 1 sometimes interfers with medication for another - have to determine what it is and how to fix it. Stopped on the way home for dinner. Mom and I had a good time. Sunday started off rain, sleet, snow and dad said not to try and drive, so kept myself busy wrapping gifts, watching football, writing checks, Christmas cards (I know, it's a little late) Today am at work, hopefully this afternoon I'll be able to bring Dad home. Just waiting for the phone call. I haven't been good with not eating cookies and candy - but I have tracked everything! LOL!

Good suggestion MVMEME!
Jannie - it started snowing around 8:30 AM. I had taken some things my dad wanted to my parents home, found he was out taking food baskets to Veterans - he just got out of the hospital and is supposed to be taking it easy. Went to the bank, stopped at the grocery store, CVS and then home to start baking. Chocolate chip cookies, old fashioned molasses cookies & oatmeal raisin cookies. Did a Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken and made Spicy Turkey Meatballs. My mom called around 11:30 and said dad was feeling faint and dizzy, guys he was with took him to doctors and doctor called for ambulance to take him to hospital. Weather at that point really nasty, roads closed due to snow. Mom didn't want to go to hospital, so had to wait for him to call. He was admitted, his heart rate was going up and down. I told her I'd take her to the hospital tomorrow.

Sorry the weather isn't cooperating with you! I did the same thing. I went and finished my shopping before the freezing rain started here. I plan on doing the rest of my baking Sunday. Don't stress too much. I'm sure you'll get your shopping done. Have a great Christmas!!

I'm a little bit bummed out....I took a vacation day Friday so I could finish up my shopping and a big snowstorm is supposed to start tonight! I quick went to the store this morning and picked up supplies so if I'm snowed in tomorrow I'll be baking goodies most of the day! Also want to try a recipe for Turkey meatballs Jenise found on SparkRecipes. Hopefully, I can get my shopping done this weekend! No stress here!!! LOL!!

Today I spent all day baking loaves of homemade bread for all my clients I clean house for. Sure did smell good in my kitchen! I made myself one tiny loaf of banana bread that I will ration out for my snacks. The extra exercises will be worth it!

thought i would bake cookies to ship to the kids...so i went and measured everything for three different batches and put aside since i was missing some ingredients, went shopping and bought that as well as gum to chew while baking...who likes gum with stuff in it anyway by the time i got to bake late last night i couldnt find the gum...so i did end up snacking some raw dough and that's why i probably went over didnt strack my wierd calories but that's why i also have a weird stomach today from raw dough...oh well...

All you do is 4-5 different steps - walk in place, side-step, knee raises, and kicks. Then there is also some hand movements, and about half way through the workout they add 2 pound balls to hold for more strength training. She (Leslie Sansone)makes the workout fun, and her group of exercisers is all types of people, not the buff youngins you usually see on workout dvds!

Thanks MVMEME! Hopefully I'll be bringing him home today or tomorrow, so won't be making the long trips for too long.
I'm going to send everyone a Team Sparkmail, but will also mention this here: There is some spam emails going around that would have you believe they are from SparkPeople, directing you to another web site for a "Free Gift" that will cost you $4.95 - IT IS NOT FROM SPARKPEOPLE!!! The coaches are doing what they can to get rid of them, but apparently someone signs in as a member, then sends these out to other members. So if you got one of these, you can click on the "Report inappropriate message" and delete, or just delete. THIS IS NOT AN AUTHORIZED SPARKPEOPLE EMAIL!

My month isn't very busy, a holiday party here or there. But my Dad was just admitted to the hospital Tuesday, and my Mom doesn't want to drive all the way down to where he is (she hates driving on highways) so my sister and I are taking turns leaving work to take her to see him. Don't know how long he'll be in, so don't know how that'll affect my socializing.

MVMEME, 1/2 pound is 1/2 pound less than you were! Good job! I know you can do the one-derland by the end of the year! Maybe to help yourself, set a goal to reward yourself New Year's Eve - new outfit to wear, get hair done, manicure/pedicure....hmmmmm, that's beginning to sound interesting!

Can you believe it's December already! How time flies when you're having fun (LOL)! This month's calendar is "31 Days to Healthier Holidays" - I have my copy taped to the wall next to my office desk. Going into the holiday season it's especially important that we watch what and how much we eat. How many times in the past have we said, "I'll lose whatever I gain during the holidays when they're over." But that usually never happened! At least for me!
