Anabanana-that massage was MUCH needed. I hope it helped!! I've been on that "I don't want to do anything" kick lately too. Just keep pushing friend!

Oh charlie horses suck! I hope that goes away fast!
Just did an hour spin class. Yesterday was kettlebells and Wednesday was spinning again. Lately I've been not feeling like working out at all so it's best for me to go in the dark spin room where I can be alone with my thoughts. =)
I have a massage appointment from my husband this afternoon, God bless him... he knows I've been way stressed out so I'm so grateful and really looking forward to some relaxation.
PS: You've inspired me to get down and do some pushups today! =)

I ran 5.7 miles and then promptly took a nap, lol.
I hope they can figure out what's up with your health soon. Try not to worry but stay on I top of it. Write things down and don't be afraid to be your own advocate. Get second and third and fourth opinions. Keep me updated. I'll be thinking of you.
Yesterday was my day off for the week, and I'll be back at it today with the elliptical and some weights. I had a super stressful weekend with some weird health symptoms and then had an appointment for 2 weeks to see a doc yesterday who canceled on me the day before. Just trying now to calm down and feel more relaxed.

40 minute run 46 pushups (627/1000) 92 crunches (1254/2500)
Forgot to record my weight on here the last 2 Thursday's in a row. 12/20 198 12/27 200.5 I'm sure it'll turn around any day. Just keep trudging along. 1/3 195.5 getting there! 1/10 198 1/17 196 1/24 193.5 1/31 191.5 2/7 192 2/14 191
I'm pretty ecstatic about the course of my weightloss!

The deal with the crunches and pushups I guess is that I am trying to put a number to it and so I am guessing as to how much I can do in a month. I add one extra each day! 2/11 42 pushups, 84 crunches 2/12 43 pushups, 86 crunches
Thank you SO much for the encouragement and advice about stress. It made me smile and feel a lot better knowing, as you said, that I control what I eat regardless of all the stress going on right now! So thank you so much for that! =)
Great job on all your exercise lately. What is your pushup/crunch goal that you've been posting numbers for? Looks cool.
I just got back from a Spin class, have to shower and then start working. Deep breath. I feel stress bubbles filling up already. =) Have a great Monday!

Oh my gosh!!! I'm just glad I didn't scare you away! LOL
Hair falling out is definitely not a good sign. Shame on that doctor for being such a tool! Are your eyebrows still intact? It could be a thyroid thing. You should have them test your thyroid when you go to the other doc. I'm just going to throw it out there...ringworm. you could have a skin condition. Or Alopecia?? It could also be all the stress. I'm sensing you have a lot of stress right now. As far as your weight, remember that you control what you eat. You got this!
Today is my 5 mile run (I wish I could magically do 6 miles) 39 pushups (284/1000) 78 crunches (568/2500)
Hey Ashley! Ok, so I haven't gotten a notification for the board in almost 2 weeks, so I decided to just come in and I see you've been diligently keeping up with your posts! I'm terrible at it if I don't get emails... sorry! But I'm still here. You've been doing fantastic! Happy February ;)
So things for me have been pretty normal. A couple things... I noticed awhile back that my hair is falling out. Yikes. I have a big (like... maybe the size of 2 quarters) bald spot behind my right ear. So I went to a doctor who told me it was "awkward" to be talking about hair loss, that it "wasn't a big deal" because "you can barely see it!" and pretty much sent me on my merry way. What a loser. (Sorry... it totally pisses me off to think about him) So I booked another appointment with a different doctor who I will see in a week and a half. Anyway, it's totally stressing me out in the meantime whenever I feel this bald patch or put my hair up in a ponytail to go to the gym. Yes. It's freaking me out.
Second thing is I'm officially back to teaching after a nice long winter break. Bummer! I teach online classes and class prep stresses me out. It's a good job, but I have to admit I find it very stressful. My goal is to somehow cut the stress down and if I can't, then to find a different job after the semester is over. I can't keep going like this! Ideally, I'd like to figure out how I can do it better because it's a great set up for a job, and I'd like to keep it.
So that's me! I'm back to 145. I haven't been as good about my eating lately... more snacking and sweets lately. I hate to blame it on stress, but I know that weakens my resolve a LOT.

Okay, It's February! This month is so short that the end of this challenge is in sight! I'm so excited because I am seeing a big difference since I started this challenge (namely in my arms and legs). I decided to take better notes on my pushups and crunches at the end of January and I'd like to keep that up. It is getting harder to keep track since the list keeps growing each day! SO the goal for February is 50-55 miles (gulp), 1000 pushups (yikes), and 2,500 crunches (holy schnikes)!
Fitness Minutes: (25,084) Posts: 1,160 1/30/13 10:37 A
Instead of the Elliptical yesterday, I changed it up. I got my dad to join me at the gym (fist pump) OH YEAH! He has had his gym membership for 2 years now and this was his second all time visit. I'm so proud that he came with!
Anyway, we started on the Elliptical but it was a little hard on him, so after about 10 minutes we grabbed the recumbent bikes. He lasted another 10 minutes and then was done, but I stayed the hour and did over 13 miles. Yay me!
Today is an "as you feel" day running, so I'm shooting for 30-40 minutes. 30 pushups (465/500 January's goal) 60 crunches (930/1000 January's goal)

I have been sleeping so poorly lately (completely my fault) so I decided that on top of this workout challenge, I joined the better sleep challenge. Hopefully by the end of February I will be rocking a better rested body! Happy Sunday!

Yesterdays run was kinda hard. Don't know why. It was less than 3 3/4 of a mile, but I was pushing more and wasn't taking more than one short walking break (near the end). I'm even still tired today. I think I will use today as a rest day...maybe do a little coach Nicole. Man I'm wiped!
Fitness Minutes: (25,084) Posts: 1,160 1/25/13 10:11 A
Your workouts sound so awesome. I definitely need to do more ST! Last June I did a month long clean eating challenge and it alone helped me to lose 15 pounds! Crazy what you can accomplish when you are more mindful and invested. You should update on here what it has you eating, I'm always looking for ways to switch up what I eat!
Today I am going to go for a medium run and just enjoy the rise in temp. It's a balmy 16 degrees out.
Oh my gosh girl!! 193.5 is an AMAZING weigh in!! Congrats! You must be walking on clouds right now. =) Also, happy Sparkiversary.
As for the smelly guy at the gym... wow. I commend you for sticking it out! I think I would have left and gotten on ANY other machine to finish the rest of my workout, feigning that my time on that machine was done and it was time to switch it out. I mean, you managed, so that's fine, but that's definitely what I would do! Yikes.
I woke up sore sore sore today in my lower back muscles and hamstrings. It's from some deadlifts and rows the other day. I was going to go to kettlebell class this morning but figured that wouldn't be smart so I'm just going to do cardio today (treadmill and elliptical) inside since it's snowing. I started a new food plan (clean eating... I already eat pretty clean but I've been cheating too much lately) and it's going fantastic. It's a 2-week plan from Oxygen magazine (which I adore) and the food is delicious, easy to make, and a great variety. I've peeked at the scale and it's going in the right direction. I'll weigh in officially on Monday though. Have a great day!!

Okay, so I have a story. Yesterday I was on the elliptical for an hour or so and my neighbors to the left and right of me kept changing periodically, but in the last 15 minutes of my workout this dude gets on to the right of me. This poor guy is already drenched with sweat like he's been working hard for a while and I could not believe how bad he smelled. I have never smelled anything like that in my life (and that is saying something). It was so powerful, that my eyes were watering and I was close to vomiting. I tried mouth breathing but it didn't help, I resorted to turning my head as much as possible and breathing into my left armpit. Seriously, I was gagging folks. It was BAD. My only guess is that maybe he was stressing out, because that is supposed to cause a more noxious smell. Whatever it was I felt so terrible for him.
Have any of you had something like this happen? If so what did you do? I was contemplating cutting my workout short just to get away, but I finished, cleaned my machine off quickly and left without any awkward social chitchat.
Amber, great to see you back! I've definitely had that problem with Spark notifications before also.... =) Amazing job on the 9 pounds, girl! I wish I had that problem of not being able to reach 1200 calories... And Ash, that must be awesome to see changes in your body and in your workouts. I love that feeling. I just got back from the gym, I went to a bootcamp-plyo-strength class. Good workout. My legs were shaking as I was driving home. Time to jump in the shower and get some work done!
Fitness Minutes: (25,084) Posts: 1,160 1/22/13 10:50 A
Oh no! I wonder why you aren't getting notified?
I'm so glad that you're eating so well! And on losing 9 pounds! That's incredible!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday I ran like a crazy person and I think I'm getting better at it! I have seen some marked improvement in my fitness level and my pace has picked up. At times I even sprinted at 7mph! I would still like to be able to get in 3 miles under 30 minutes...it'll come, I just need to be patient and stick with my program.
I can tell that my legs are thinning out and that pleases me.
Today I will hop on the elliptical. Have a great day!
Grrr... for some reason I wasn't getting my message board updates... grrr... I just thought everyone go busy!
Anyway, looks like you've been really consistent, Ash. :) That is awesome. I am starting working out again this week. I am overloaded with assignments, so it has been rough getting in any personal time. Sucks!
But, food has been really good! I've been tracking everything on MyFitnessPal and have only come in over my calorie goal once in the past 2 weeks. When I'm having lots of veggies, it has been hard to get even 1200 cals. It has paid off, tho, especially the cutting out of sugar - 9 lbs down!
Alright, I'll be watching for replies now. Lol. Have agreat day tomorrow!

Lol, isn't that standard while on vacation? FOOD! I can't believe it's -10 right now and that it's supposed to get colder! Eww!
Well, I guess I have to get out of bed sometime today...
I need to go for a run but tom is making it difficult for me.
You too! We are spending the weekend in Richmond and are just about to leave the hotel. It's CHILLY out, so I've got my Uggs on today. I think we'll be doing a fair amount of walking (actually, I hope so, because there's been a lot more eating than working out while away...) Happy Sunday!
Fitness Minutes: (25,084) Posts: 1,160 1/18/13 10:32 A
Happy Anniversary!!!!! It's good to splurge on special occasions. It keeps the body guessing and working. I say that even if you gain a little, it's totally worth it! You are a rockstar and you can burn it off quickly enough.
I am getting ready for the weekend, I have a ton to do. Tonight my aunt is coming up from Iowa for a nice little reunion and dinner and then plans to stay overnight at my sisters and her family, so I need to hop to right after work and get everything done that I planned to do today as well as all the prep I need done before the weekend comes. I have to work this weekend and so all my projects are put on hold...
I haven't weighed myself in a few days... I have a sense of foreboding at the moment. lol. Yesterday was our 4-year-anniversary from when my husband & I started dating (we just got married in May of last year) so... I kinda... ate... a lot. We went out for sushi and I started out with salad, and we split a clear soup. Then... bring on the sushi! We shared a bunch of rolls and some of them were rice-less so I know it's a pretty darn healthy option. The soy sauce definitely would have had me adding pounds of water weight though. =) And then... we had Coldstone ice cream for dessert. I didn't eat til I was stuffed though, so I'm hopeful I didn't do too much damage.
I went back to kettlebell class this morning, and loved it. I'm sure I won't be as sore tomorrow (and the entire week following...). It's so much fun! Hope you're having a great day! I have to get back to work.
Fitness Minutes: (25,084) Posts: 1,160 1/15/13 9:54 A
That's ridiculous that he still has to go in! And at 5 no less? Yuck! Good for you for being awesome with your fitness! If my legs were messed up, I'd be tempted to go with stretching exercises until I felt more restored.
I'm finally in a recovery week with running, so I can take it a little easy with my pacing (not that I want to run slowly, but I'm glad for the respite).
Today I am going with easy elliptical. Have a GREAT day!!!
Good for you!! That is SO great that you cleaned out your closet. Buh-bye fat clothes! =) I think that is a great way to really embrace where you're at now. No going back, just like you said.
After that kettlebell class last Thursday, I stayed away from the gym for a few more days AGAIN. I took Friday and Sunday off (half due to taking care of my invalid husband, lol, and half because my legs were destroyed) and had an easy elliptical day on Saturday. This morning I had to get up at 5 to drive him into work (they're still making him come in... even though he can't drive... this is going to be fun, gotta love the military) and then hang around for a couple hours of paperwork. I got home just in time to leave for the gym if I wanted to make it to class. Came THIS close to skipping out but I got my shoes on and went for a double whammy of weight lifting and kick boxing. Once again, happy I went once I got out the door.
Fitness Minutes: (25,084) Posts: 1,160 1/14/13 9:47 A
Heading to the gym to run on the treadmill.
I cleaned out my closet yesterday and I got really nervous. I boxed up all of my big girl clothes. I thought it was time, but I'm nervous of needing to wear those clothes again in the future. I don't want to go back, but they are kinda like a security blanket. Now that they aren't a part of my closet, I have to keep progressing, there is no going back.
That's great! You're being really consistent with your workouts. =) My husband was playing hockey on Thursday night... after which we were supposed to go for dinner and the premiere of Zero Dark Thirty.... but long story short, collision on ice, drive to ER, hours and hours in ER, home at 5 am. Yuck. I didn't go to the gym yesterday. My legs are absolutely ripped up and dying from that kettlebell class on Thursday! Every move includes a squat or a lunge... so however many of those you can get into an hour class... yeah. After a couple weeks of skiing and NO squats, I felt fine during the class but am so sore now. *And yesterday... and the day before... lol. So I'm off right now to get in an easier workout and then we'll try to catch our movie later. =)

Oh that's awesome! I need to get on board with the fitness classes at my gym, but they always seem so popular and are scheduled at odd hours. My gym has laminated passes that they set out for fist come first serve, and you have to be really quick because they get snapped up so fast!
I am headed to the gym to go on my run but my legs are kind of sore. So I guess we'll see...it might be a mild workout day......
Girl, I know what you mean about being up and down! I don't know what it is but as soon as I start to lose again, I sabotage myself and pig out so that I'm back where I started. I had lost a few pounds at home over Christmas, and so I mentally gave myself license to eat whatever and whenever I felt like. Needless to say, I got back to Virginia a couple pounds heavier than when I left. =P Yoy.
So, good news! After 5 days of holing myself up in the apartment workout room doing strictly elliptical (totally lost my mojo... it was all I could do to get on the elliptical and zone out) I FINALLY got back to the gym this morning. I went to a kettlebell class and I really loved it. I've only been a couple times before and it's a little intimidating but I made it through, sweat up a storm, and really enjoyed myself. It used to be I couldn't make this class because of work, but my schedule is changing so now I hope to become a regular. The other classes I hit are kickboxing, spinning, weight training, circuit training, Zumba... I think those are the main ones. I used to box when I lived in Cali but I can't find a boxing gym out here. That was definitely the love-of-my-life-workout. Anyway, now that I've forced myself back, it should be much easier to start getting to classes again. They really are fun compared to machines, if you can get yourself to just one! Find one that appeals to you most and try it out! I used to be sooooo scared to go to classes a couple years ago, but once I started... really... it's so awesome. The instructors are generally great, you get support, maybe will make a few gym buddies... hear some great music, put someone else in charge of motivating you, and the time generally goes by much faster and is a lot more fun! For me, at least, that's the case. It's great to have the other stuff to turn to (like I did this week when I just wasn't in the mood) but classes are a great way to mix it up, stay interested and keep you going! =)

Well welcome home! Your smoothie sounds delish. I'll have to try it That is very sad that you can't take your pups with!! I don't have animals because I am not home enough, but I'd love to if I could. What kind of classes do you take mostly?
I've been sticking with the machines at the gym and I haven't tried any of my gyms classes yet. Truth is, they kinda scare me.
Hi girls! Sorry I've been gone a few days. We are now back in Virginia and it's taken me awhile to get back to real life. I still haven't been back to my gym... can't get up my mojo. I've been using the workout room at the apartment, which is fine, since I'm getting it in. But it's not normal for me to want to stay away from classes like this. I usually love them and can't wait to go. I guess I just really miss home. I had been skiing every day, and I always take my 4 dogs with me. I am in LOVE with my dogs, have had them for 10 years but I can't take them with me to Virginia so they live with my parents. It always makes me so sad to leave them. I know some people think that sounds flaky, but that's the way it is! They're the little loves of my life. =)
I am sipping a lunch smoothie right now, I got the recipe from a magazine...apple pie smoothie! It's half a cup of unsweetened applesauce, half a cup Greek yogurt (plain), a tablespoon of almond butter, half a banana, half a cup of almond milk, a dash of cinnamon.... it's SO GOOD! The actual recipe calls for an apple, regular milk, and 5 almonds but I had to make do with what I have. Anyway, if you're ever craving a sweet treat, it's seriously yummy. =) Hope you guys are doing well! Congrats on the weight loss, Ashley! That's awesome!!

So y esterday I had planned to go to the gym...I stayed at my sisters for about 7 hours instead and helped with the kids homework, ate dinner, and "fenced" with my nephew. That was my workout. Gotta switch it up a bit some days
Awesome work on the weight loss, Ashley! :) Have a great day!

Wow Amber! Lots going on! I hope your mom is doing better!!
Today is my crosstrain day, but after work instead of going staight to the gym like I always do, I am heading over to my sister's. She raked in a haul of name brand clothing and picked out a few choice items for me. She's so sweet! She knows that I am running out of clothes that fit.
Weigh in day results! 12/20 198 12/27 200.5 I'm sure it'll turn around any day. Just keep trudging along. 1/3 195.5 getting there!
Thanks for starting this thread. :) It was started when I was still writing finals for last semester, so I have just gotten around to reading this...
My Christmas vacation was draining. My mom had been dealing with an infected blood blister on her foot for a few days before my last final exam, going to the doctor to get it swabbed, possibly for some antibiotics, and to get it dressed (all the right things), then all of a sudden, one of the doctors she saw was really rude to her and told her to go to the hospital b/c there was nothing else they could do for her... She scared my mom shtlss, and I was PISSED! So we waited in the ER waiting room for 8 hrs on Dec 19, then another 3.5 after she was actually taken in for them to change her bandage again, take an x-ray and blood tests to see if there was a bone infection, and give her a IV antibiotics for over an hour. We finally got back to my mom's house at 3 am, and had to go to an appointment (that would last another 4 hrs) at the hospital at 8 am. Then everyday right through December 27, my mom had to go into the hospital and get her antibiotic and her dressing changed. (Now she just has oral antibiotics and a home-care nurse comes to her house to change her bandage each day... and she is teaching my brother how to do it properly, so no more nurse as on next Monday). So THAT was a big crappy start to my Xmas vacation!
Next, I worked a ton, or what seemed like a ton when I had to deal with taking my mom for appointments... with Christmas Eve being ridulously busy (I work PT at Starbucks), and having a Ukranian family dinner with my side of the fam that evening. It was good!! Delicious, and I only stuffed myself a little bit. Lol. Christmas Day was at AJ's parents' house, and my mom and brother came. It was just AJ's immediate family and us, so it was a nice, quiet Christmas Day. We had a fondue, which went over swimmingly, opened presents, played some games... Just nice and quiet. Plus, Christmas Day is my mom's birthday, and I don't think she was really expecting anything, so she was really touched when we all brought out her birthday presents and AJ's mom brought out a special tart she made for my mom (and we all sang "Happy Birthday"). Dec 26 was totally a day off for AJ and I, so we spent the night at his parents' house in the middle of nowhere and went into the city to check out a few Boxing Day deals (none good), before we had dim sum for late lunch. The rest of my time was spent working! And now I'm back in school for my last semester (yay!).
Ana - sounds like you have had a nice relaxing time back home! If I had some time off, I would have suggested we could meet up for coffee or something while you were back!
Out-of-Ashes - your issue with the SparkPeople counter versus your heartrate monitor sounds familiar. I track all my workout minutes using SparkAmerica (even though I'm not IN America), because it just lets me put in what I did and how many minutes, without doing the calorie calculation. I find SP's counter really off, because it is based on a certain sized person, not me personally (ie. 150 lb or 130 lb or something). So I'd def say your monitor is more accurate!
Happy New Year, ladies! :)

Back to business! Week 2 of the run training starts today. I tried to pick it up on Monday at the gym but was cut off because they closed early, so I only ran 2.75 mi. I hate falling behind schedule.
Fitness Minutes: (25,084) Posts: 1,160 12/28/12 2:09 P
Yesterday I saw a huge difference between the calories the Spark tracker said I had burned and my hr monitor's calorie log. Using the elliptical, SP had me at well over 900 calories and my monitor said I only burned 500 calories. Big difference. Isn't that interesting? I find that pretty interesting.
Today I ran and just like last time my heart rate was well above maximum. But I don't know if I should pay attention or not. It was in the 180's at times. I should do some research and see if that's okay for my heart.
Fitness Minutes: (25,084) Posts: 1,160 12/27/12 11:54 A
Sounds like your good news far out weighed your bad news! Great!
I used my new heart rate monitor for the first time yesterday and I'm kinda on the fence about it. I can't seem to run and have my heart rate in the zone at the same time. I go way over the maximum... It seems a brisk walk is all I can do to keep my hr in the right place... Am I doing something wrong? Cause I really like to run!
Weigh in 12/20 198 12/27 200.5 I'm sure it'll turn around any day. Just keep trudging along.
Sounds like you're doing really great! That's so cool that you got a HR monitor. I love mine. =) I asked for a bunch of fitness-y things but didn't get any. I got an awesome pair of marc jacobs sunglasses, and for a belated wedding gift my parents gave us an espresso-slash-capuccino machine. So for Christmas I got a coffee bean grinder. =) That was pretty awesome... I looooove my coffee! Used to work in a coffee shop so drip coffee sometimes just doesn't do it for me anymore! I'm so happy I get to make espressos again!
So, good news and bad news. lol. The good news is, I've gotten out to do some cross-country skiing every single day I've been at my parents. Yesterday was shorter, 45 minutes. So I'm really happy I've been getting my exercise in! The BAD news is, I've felt STUFFED for about the past um....40 hours or so. We had a huge traditional Ukrainian Christmas Eve dinner on Monday with family, our traditional Christmas day breakfast yesterday after church, followed by sampling chocolates and candies and alcohol while opening presents lol, followed by another biggish dinner last night. AND today we are going to my aunt's for our major family gathering, and that's the side that is Ukrainian, so there is going to be food like crazy. I'm hoping to do better today with controlling how much I put on my plate, cuz I sure didn't do that the past couple days! Oops. =]
Let's see... what else. Oh yes, well, this is our first Christmas as a married couple. My husband is military and we moved to Virginia over the summer because of that. He is from Cali and I am from Canada, so it hasn't been fun deciding where to go for Christmas! We ended up at my family's this year, and it's been awesome. Unfortunately, only 1 of my sister's is home (there are 4 girls in my fam) but we've all been having a good time. Anyway, long post! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!! Mine is continuing today. =)
Nice job! An almost-5-mile run is really good! No running for me with all this snow, but I went for another cross-country ski yesterday and am about to go again today. I did 10 push-ups yesterday and really need to take more time for that. I don't want to go back to they gym having lost all my strength! Keep it up!

Guess what? Since today was the Mayan last day of existance and we are still here, that means we all get a fresh start! It's the first day in a lot of ways, so take advantage and get out there! What am I doing with my second chance? I have a new training plan thanks to a friend. So this will be my official "first" day of training for that marathon! And after? I will do Day 1 of ZWOW's workout! I can do it!
Happy Day ONE, happy first day of winter, and Happy Winter Solstice!
I'm in! I just flew home on Tuesday for Christmas (as in, my parents') so I'm definitely going to be out of my usual habitat for the next couple weeks. A challenge will do me good. =) We live near cross-country trails, and I went skiing yesterday and today. My plan is to get in my exercise that way as many days as possible, and throw in some pushups and stuff to stay in shape while I'm here. The scale was at 145 this morning, and I will NOT gain over the holidays!! =)

With the shortest/darkest day of the year upon us, I propose that we dust off our drab and tired behinds and jump into a new challenge!
It can be whatever you want plus something a little different. Has anyone tried Bodyrock? Or is there an exercise machine that you haven't tried before at the gym?
I have to get a new license photo taken in March and I'm happy about the progress that I've made in less than a year but I know I can always do more. So for the next 10 weeks I am going to train for a marathon and do some ZWOWs to tone it up! Who's with me?
