Hi,
I would like to write a book and am looking for contributors.
I would like to know how you arrived at paleo, what % paleo, why you eat this way, and what benefits. Also, what is your favorite recipe.
If interested you can email me at paleohealth@cox.net.

Thanks for considering this,
Dayle

I find I am most successful when I get 8 hours of sleep, drink lots of water, and stick to less than 50 total grams of carbohydrates. It's easy to eat a lot of carbs on paleo diets just by eating fruits, nuts, and veggies and this always stalls my weight loss. One other thought...if the exercise is new you could also be building some muscle while losing fat...sometimes when my weight loss stalls I contInue to notice a change in my body composition. Stay consistent and motivated even when the scale doesn't change....consistency makes a huge difference over the long run.

I have big health news, took labs yesterday and my blood glucose is down to 5.5 which is normal, and that is amazing, and as for my kidney function it is UP to 32, a full 11 point improvement, which is incredible because 1. kidneys do not get better! and 2. I am out of stage 4 kidney failure.
This I know is because of Paleo, my swimming program and improving in other ways too, thanks to all who have supported this journey.

Just for today ..... it really is one day at a time

A typical day for me is 1 egg, 1/4 cup of egg yolk chopped onion and a little frozen spinach made into an omelette. Occasionally I will add a couple of tablespoons of real bacon bits or a naturals sausage. For lunch I most often have a smoothy made with veggie protein powder, 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk, a banana and about 1/2 cup of frozen berries. For dinner I have either chicken breast, pork chop, steak or roast beef or salmon, along with a salad and a cooked vegetable. I avoid potatoes of any kind and no corn or peas. My diet is rather boring but it has been working. I do snack on a mixture of dried fruits, nuts and seeds too often during the day. I sometimes will have a glass of almond milk with my dinner.
For activity I play tennis a lot and go to the gym and do bodypump which is weight lifting, twice a week.

Kelsey54, thank you for the reply. I am getting very discouraged because I have been eating paleo but am not seeing the weight loss. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm walking 2.25 miles most every am and limit my snacks.. Sigh..... Can you give me an idea of your meals and activities?

Paleoinidaho I too am 59. I continue with what I am doing but still eat too many nuts and dried fruit but I am down about 23 now. I am going to Cuba for 2 weeks next Saturday and plan to stick with eating Paleo the best I can. I am hopefully going to play tennis an hour every morning and do water aerobics as well. I will have some alcoholic beverages but not the piña coladas, much to heavy calorie wise.

I have been trying to eat paleo for a couple of months now. It has dramatically helped with the cravings. I had to cut back on the fruit to get the weight loss. I will add it back in once I get to goal. I lost 16 pounds last month. I know I can't eat processed food and be healthy.

You are all such an inspiration to me! Thank you for your posts and keep up the good work. I'm new to paleo and am trying to strictly follow the guidelines in eating but have some physical restrictions that I'm working through with a PT that will limit exercise for a bit. I'm 59 and was concerned that only young people would benefit from this plan, until I read these posts. LOL! Glad to hear there are others my age who are having such great success. Thanks for the encouragement!

Maestraplank12, that is so good to hear. I started the month before you and I am also down, 20 pounds. I basically eat like you but I have my protein shake most often at lunch. My problem is I still like the snack and I have been eating a mixture of walnut, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds and a bit of dried fruit. I buy all individually and mix it together myself. It is all unsalted and raw. The other thing I have had a lot is watermelon. Keep up the good work and lets keep comparing, although we all lose at a different pace and have different amounts to lose. I am 59 and have about 20 more to lose.

emoticon emoticon I began the Paleo Lifestyle August 4, 2013. I didn't know what I was doing at first ...eating everything Paleo including almond butter which tastes simply wonderful. After sampling the new foods, I began to find out what works for me. I have a wonderful protein drink in the morning which allows me to have my two fruits for the day mixed with a plant based protein powder, PlantFusion....wonderful power food for me. Later in the day I eat a simply huge salad with all fresh veggies...including kale which I know love....and a lean protein....chicken breast, white albalcore tune, or lean chopped leftover beef. Sometimes I add sliced eggs, slivered almonds, or avocado...depending on what I have in the kitchen. I no longer snack and I have no further food cravings for the day.

Bottom line....this is working for me. I have lost 15 pounds in one month. I am 68 years old and have a slow thyroid.....so I think this is simply amazing. I am not hungry. I am energized and excited. I do zumba, water jogging, cycling, weight training, and walking as time permits. I exercise a minimum of one hour per day.

For those of you who are experiencing joint pain due to arthritis, I really encourage you to take ACV, raw organic apple cider vinegar...I prefer Bragg's.... three times a day....2 tsps each dose....I am now taking 1 TBSP three times a day. My body doesn't have any pain and I am becoming more limber. I can now do jumping jacks and deep knee bends in zumba. I began doing squats with a weight bar and weights on the end.....a milestone for me.

Anyway, I am so delighted with this way of eating. I can travel with it....eat out at a restaurant...I take my own homemade Italian dressing with me. The food is so fresh and colorful......this is such a way to eat! I love it! emoticon

I have been on paleo since March 18, 2013 and have lost 56 pounds so far... I also workout at the gym doing the following ,body pump, step aerobics, zumba, weekend warrior, boot camp. I realized that the portions make a big difference in the weight loss and lifting heavier weight also helps ALOT... loving this lifestyle bc its just eating clean.... not a crazy fad diet :)

I just started Paleo a few weeks ago, and am so far liking it. One question I have - has everyone given up alcohol? I've read that red wine is okay, but is it best to just not have any?

For me I am going to eat this way forever, one day at a time. It's the only thing for me.

I have to also work out daily, from 90-120 minutes, that is 5 days a week in the pool. On Sundays I go for a walk with a friend, today I did 35 min walk this afternoon, cause I was walking from my car to an outdoor concert this evening.

I have had a few more good things happen, lost 2 more pounds for total of 15 in 62 days, I know that does not sound like alot, but for the year before I only gained slowly, not losing weight at all because I did not work out and only gave up sugar.
I am also growing muscles all over, legs, gluts, arms, everywhere, they were tiny before and now I can feel them. My forearms, and upper arms have muscles in them too.....they had atrophied pretty much before this effort. I do wonder how much weight I did not lose cause I am gaining some muscle? It does not matter in the long run I was just curious.

I do strict paleo only, I am off insulin now and take 1/4 of an oral only now with excellent blood sugar readings. My kidneys have stabilized, they will never heal but they may not get worse.

I was stretching out the other night and touching my leg and I noticed something real hard, it was muscles, and I was so happy.

I can now prepare a meal without having to sit down to take a little break, that means I can stand up at least 20 minutes at a time now. Huge benefit. I am actually already fitting into certain places easier now, the shower, the car, the theatre chairs.

I have energy, not boundless but some, and I will take it. This is not an easy food plan to follow for me, but I am glad the cravings are not there like a regular diet, and I am glad my health is improving. Its not about vanity, its about living. For me that is.

I do have to stick to it 100% tho, I know if I took a day off or had a nibble of something not strict paleo I could be off and running, into bad foods, so a little bite is not an option for me.

I only speak for myself no one else, I am grateful for paleo.

Hi!
I gotta admit, I keep reading these and am so inspired but cannot find out what I am doing wrong? Or maybe it will just take longer for me?
Today is day 24 and I have only gotten BIGGER. Not dramatically, but definitely 5-7 lbs.
I suffer from a rare neuromuscular and neurovascular disease and take medication for it. I was pointed in this direction by another spark friend, and love the whole philosophy. Would LOVE to kick my sugar cravings and not be a slave to food. Plus healing my body without medication. Love that! I love a lot of the whole30 recipes and enjoy them. But...maybe it will just take longer? Perhaps I should stretch out my whole30 into 45 or 60 days?

What I love about Paleo is the lack of food cravings and that urge to constantly snack. I have been eating paleo around a month now and have lost around 10 pounds and tend to have a lot more energy. I like that it really promotes an all around healthy lifestyle.

Jilly, what a success!!! You need to check out Steve Cooksey blog cooksey.steve@gmail.com www.diabetes-warrior.net

He also has a story about diabetes. The Federal government took him to court to shut him up but he won the ability to tell about his story.

The biggest success for me about going Paleo 41 days ago is that I am getting healthier. First I am off insulin altogether (was on 4 injections of 40 units each day-thats alot).
So no more insulin, also down to 1/4 on my oral diabetes med too. If I goof and take the whole pill my blood sugar goes way too low.
Then there is how I feel-I am loving the energy, the lack of cravings and the motivation now to go to the pool 4-5 days a week for 90 minute exercise sessions. Thats alot for me.

I am fairly terrified of the scale and so I am not weighing, I have ALWAYS lost my ability to diet if I do not lose weight quickly, so I am giving myself 1 whole year! And in the meantime enjoying the success that is coming from this wonderful and healthy way to eat

Another biggie, I have enjoyed (sort of) 2 cups of BLACK COFFEE, who knew??? It was hard to give up the sweetners and fake creamers, but they no longer go in my mouth.

Just glad to have given this food plan 1 day in my life, 1 little day converted me, and 2 weeks got me alot healthier than I was.... I am very grateful.

I started paleo about three months ago. I'd heard of it before, and honestly I never would have tried it if I hadn't gotten sick. I had an intestinal yeast overgrowth, which made another health issue that I didn't even know I had, much worse. After researching candida diets, and foods that kill it, I thought it sounded like paleo. So glad I decided to try it.

My huge candida problem disappeared in a week. The naturopath told me it usually takes a minimum of 6-8 weeks for those results. I've gone from 135lbs to 122lbs, a size 9 or 10 to a size 6. Awesome.

After all the years of counting calories, and checking my heart rate monitor, this is not only so much more effective, but it's so easy. I haven't even started the workout part yet. I love eating this way. I'm not hungry, and I'm maintaining muscle instead of becoming "skinnyfat" like I did before. (You know where you have to lift weights at least twice a week to keep your arms from feeling spongey?) I'm not even doing weight training yet, but I see definition, and feel stronger. Yea! emoticon

My biggest problem was my addiction to sugar. I cannot eat just one cookie. With Paleo I haven't even craved sweets. That is a huge first. I've lost 18 lbs so far. My brother asked me what I was going to do when I go off this "fad" diet. I feel the best I've felt in years and have no plans to ever return to my old way of living.

Paleo for me has been a huge Relief. I have been trying to lose weight, and I became so obsessive over food, I was eating an average of 500-700 calories a day. I was too worried about the wrong foods, and eating to late or before I workout...and on it went. I would end up eating terrible foods in order to try and get enough calories in so I didn't go into starvation mode. It got bad enough I would often throw up after I ate, not because I wanted to, but I don't think my body couldn't handle it when I ate a real meal.....SO DANG SCARY. It sounds even more horrible as I see it in black and white in front of me. ....enter Paleo

I am eating, and eating, and eating. No more feeling guilty if I am not hungry, no more worrying about what I can eat and when, or if I am eating enough times in a day. So many people have asked me how I can stand to eat like this, and I ask them the same question.

This way of living makes more sense than anything I have even done in my life

Optimist: someone who figures taking a step backward after you have taken a step forward is not a disaster, it's more like a Cha-Cha!

We started Primal (we are using Mark Sisson's 80/20 model) on Jan 28. My husband wasn't really on board until he saw that just by eating Primal at dinner he was losing weight, He now is following a *mostly* Primal eating lifestyle. I've lost over 20lbs (he's lost 10lbs), 3.25 inches off my waist, and I've gone from being hungry ALL THE TIME to having days when I need to make sure I eat enough. I DO track my calories, fat, and carbohydrates because prior to this I did not really know what it mean to be "full" (I never really felt full) nor did I eat portions that were appropriate. I think for such a short duration, these changes are quite remarkable. I am excited to see what the future holds!

Just want to say WOW! A couple of days eating like this and I've lost 3 lbs!
Didn't even really focus on it, just kept the food I'm allowed to eat with me, ate when hungry and stepped on the scale this morning out of habit and there it was. A great motivator.
I've been feeling full of energy the last couple of days. I understand why so many are joining in this thinking. Thank you for the SP Team!

I originally lost 40 pounds on the Atkins diet, but I never liked the yucky artificial sweeteners and the lack of fruits and vegetables. I found Nom Nom Paleo's blog and it changed my life. I started primal over a year ago and lost another 25 pounds. I've kept it off the whole time. I still need to lose some more, but I never have to shop in a plus size store again.

When I finally gave up dairy January 1 of this year, I got rid of my fibrocystic breast pain! My adult onset acne is a lot better, too!

I started Olympic style weight lifting this January. I haven't lost a pound, but I've lost 4 inches off my waist, 2 inches off my hips, and an inch off each thigh and calf. I have a lot of loose skin on my arms from losing weight, so I've been doing some body buiding isolation exercises to tighten that area.

I identify as a primal diet rather than paleo because I get tired of the paleo diet police leaving nasty comments on my Tumblr or Instagram that tomatoes or green beans aren't paleo. Whatever. There are holier-than-thou creeps in any group. I also eat some bacon with evaporated can juice and chili peppers. I'm over 95% compliant and I've found a way of living that has kept me healthy for years.

I was reading your post about milk. I have tried almond milk, and am loving it. It gives me the same "milk" feel, but is so much better.

I have tried soy milk in the past and just couldn't stomach it. It was sour or something. It might be worth a try.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Started Paleo on Jan. 8th....starting weight 248.5 lbs. Bought me a wonderful new magenta Coach Bag and vowed not to let myself use it until I was down to 230 lbs....18.5 lb loss. I hit 230 lbs. yesterday morning and have decided to not let myself use the new bag until I hit a loss of 20 lbs. I'm going to need to think of a another goal reward to get...or maybe just keep dangling the Coach bag in front of me for motivation!

My boyfriend went in with both feet and he has loved eating Paleo. At first it was just to support me because he doesn't need to lose weight but does want to be healthier, now he hates non-Paleo foods that were our staple just a month ago!

Great first weekend of Paleo. I spent lots of time shopping and prepping food; made an amazing perfectly paleo dinner tonight, plus I have flourless bacon brownies in the oven. I'm going to PROVE to my negative bf that this can be a good thing.

Besides, it's for the health of it!

In November, I started doing Paleo and lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks. In December, I went "Christmas Crazy" and started eating cookies and holiday candy, etc. I gained back 5 of the pounds I lost- without even changing my calories.

On January 1st, I committed to a year of grain-free. I've lost 7 more pounds effortlessly. ACTUALLY effortlessly. Same calories as before, actually quite a bit LESS exercise than before, and I've never felt better.

I like the way I feel so much, it keeps me motivated to keep going!

My boyfriend and I started paleo two and a half weeks ago. We are eating paleo but we are not cutting out all dairy, so I guess it's not 100% paleo. I am still drinking skim milk and sometimes cheese made from skim milk, mostly I am keeping milk though.
My boyfriend is 140 lbs soaking wet, so he's doing it basically because I'm doing it and I cook the food in the house. In less than three weeks, I have lost 20 lbs eating paleo. I also have stopped having to take sleeping pills and am full all the time. I am sitting here forcing myself to eat a piece of chicken for dinner.
I am considering joining Crossfit but for now we go to a small gym at our apartment and I also do yoga ball exercises, Zumba, and other things in our house.
This has been the best decision of my life!

Thanks guys...

Wow, Ramona, I have a lot of reading to d this weekend!.. I need this now because with this cold I have not really been eating paleo/primal... I want to start back on Sunday since I am feeling better and will add more exercise. It motivates me to hear how others have been successful; just what I need to help me get back on track! emoticon . Thanks for all the links Ramona.

I thought I would write a short note about personal success with Paleo. I have been about 80% Paleo (veering from 100% to 80% during the holidays) for about 8 months now. I also do Crossfit. I have lost 20 pounds (145 to 125) but the biggest difference is the way I feel-so energized! I sleep wonderfully. Before Paleo my knees and back hurt all the time and I thought I just had to accept it was due to age (46) BUT when I eat Paleo there's no aches and pains!!!! I can really tell when I don't eat as well because the aches and pains come back. I even had to stop CF for 2 months due to a foot injury but continued Paleo and continued to lose weight and feel great! I can't say enough about how this has changed my life.

GREAT thread idea, Dee! We all have such different reasons for landing here, but the results are always very similar (can you tell the search for answers to chronic illness was mine?)... and oh so encouraging.

Here are my favourites (I keep an on-going file to read/re-read on THOSE days... you know... those days when nothing is changing fast enough, LOL):
