Anna, join the club, LOL, there are a LOT of people on Spark and there are some other good resources here. I think I'm a member of at least 5 low-carb ish groups and they all have great people in them. emoticon
We always need more people to encourage each other and newcomers to get healthy. emoticon emoticon

Hahaha, thanks for injecting a bit of humor. My mind was boggled when I read the advice for lowfat dairy. I guess I am just frustrated because I tried for so long to lose weight the "conventional" way, following pretty much exactly the advice in the article. I felt horrible and frustrated. Switched to paleo last year and naturally lost 15 lbs from my all time high. I feel fantastic eating this way. Just angry that this poor advice continues to circulate from "experts".

Yeah, I saw that. I didn't even want to click on it, to be honest, because I knew it would contradict the Paleo lifestyle.

I don't know how old this article is, but I wrote a rebuttal almost a year ago: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

I'm guessing it's back in circulation because too many of us are having success with it. Can't have people overturning the skim milk truck!

There is another discussion about the paleo diet that includes a post by dietician Becky who wrote the article. Maybe you want to contribute to this thread as many people on spark will likely read it. emoticon
Just try to keep it positive and encouraging as much as possible.

I find many articles lacking in full disclosure - to each his own I suppose but, no, I gave up being offended at most things, it is way too stressful. You can't change others, only yourself.

Thanks for providing the link to the article as I tend to ignore them as conventional wisdom is too prominent in them. I read the article and wasn't put off by it until their recommendations for rule 1. I've always thought 6-11 servings of grains was insane, even before i became paleo. Then on top of that 1-2 servings of legumes, beans, peas. That is making my belly hurt already. The only thing that i really have a problem with is rule 1. Rule 2 and 3 are pretty great, although i've eliminated both of the groups except for the very occasional glass of fruit juice.

I do think that the article was reaching out to people who cut out ALL carbs from their diet. Paleo just doesn't do that.

Thank you! I just joined, so this was literally the first article I read & was horrified. I am usually in better spirits, but I just find it so frustrating to continuously have to dust of my scientific articles to demonstrate why their logic is faulty.

Thanks for the tip about the other groups, I lucked onto this one by using the search bar. Cheers!

Anna, there have been a lot of posts about this by low-carb people of various groups today. There was another mention of it in the "Wheatbelly" group and on another low-carb group as well. It seems that nobody is sure how old this article is. It may have been reposted a significant time after it was first written. The info in it is based on what is still taught (or at least has been until very recently) in most colleges and it is close to the official recommendation of the American Diabetes Association. We can make it our job to educate as many people as possible about this issue, both on spark and in our community. There is the possibility to contact the author of the article via her spark account and ask for references for the information given and to encourage her to read about more recent research in support of paleo/primal/ancestral/low-carb eating. emoticon

The feature article today was on carbohydrates and I felt it was completely filled with crap. The brain runs solely on carbs? Ketosis is an "unnatural" state?? We go into ketosis every night if we're eating properly. I am new here, but really, I found this so offensive I had to post something! www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti
