Good evening all! I've been trying to catch up with everything! I had to leave the boards for a little while due to work stress and internet problems. But all seems to be better so I am ready to get back to work! I missed all the great discussions and info glad to be back.NJJAZZ hope your feeling better! I had to smile,I got my chiropractors news letter and he is a big supporter of the De Flame or Paleo diet.He believes this way of eating will greatly reduce inflammation in the body,he asked his clients that are willing to give it a whole month on the plan,no deviation and truly see how you feel! So day 1 for me tomorrow.I can't wait to see how I feel a month from now! Diane

Well blew these last 2 day - had one heck of a stomach virus - fever and all . I hardly ate anything yesterday --------------------- and nothing stayed down anyway.................. and today had dry cheerios and a bowl of soup.

Feeling better and hoping to get back to my fitness plan - nutrition and working out .

YAY FOR WILLPOWER!

I'm still fascinated that I haven't given up. Its like its not even an option or an idea to go eat that loaf of bread or have an english muffin. All things I could eat for HOURS.

I've upped my carbs and started loosing weight and inches again. *YAY* I'm well between 50 and 100g a day and feel amazing. So that one cup of melon, its ok! Just not all day every day =)
I've also found that berries seem to be the best bet for fruit. I like to buy unsweetened frozen ones until I can stock my own freezer with locally grown ones. =)

I know alot more about carbs than I did 2 weeks ago. I brought a melon thinking what a great healthy snack that would be..................... one cup of melon - 15 carbs? WOW

good thing I also bought a package of strawberries and blueberries. I mix a few tablespoons of greek yogurt into the fruit and pretend its an ice cream sunday. Silly thing but it seems to satisfy my craving for ice cream which I love more than most other foods.

Been doing lots of yard cleanup which means I have not been doing my kettlebells . Will get back to that tomorow.

Im not having a big issue with this and Im surprised...................... where did this willpower come from?

I have to admit Im a daily weigher person. I somehow just got into the habit of weighing myself first thing every morning.......................... WELL emoticon todyI saw 133 for the first time in a very long time. What a nice surprise.

Ive made 3 changes at the same time.

I gave up all sweets for lent ---------------- Im not eating anything that resembles a dessert.
Im restricting carbs - trying to stay close to 50g per day ------------------ not to exceed 100g.
Im working out with kettlebells - 3x per week for 30 minutes.

OK - so -------------------- I started at 137 ---------------------- and after about 10 days Im at 133. I guess I had some water weight that came off easier ---- now to work off the belly fat.

So far - so good.

I say just don't buy em!
I broke down and bought some apples for my kids, and a few oranges, I still haven't eaten any.

You need to break the addiction to sugar, and stopping eating fruit for a while may be just the thing to do it. Lots of veggies. Really, after a while, things that you would have never thought were sweet, are! and things that were not sweet enough before are TOO sweet.

its amazing how our bodies and noses and tastes change! =)

Im liking the challenge of this lifestyle change. It seems I can keep carbs in the 50-75g range ------ at least 5 days per week. I usually go out for lunch or dinner at least twice per week and on those days my number is going to hit closer to 100. Lets see what one month of this does for me.
March is my test month. emoticon

If there is any truth to this losing weight with this way of eating ---------------------- then I can honestly see why I didnt lose for so long................ all the things I ate as "diet" food - is opposite of what Im eating now on this nutrition plan. I dont like the word diet - so its a nutrition plan for me.

Well - on the leap year day - Im leaping forward with this and hoping to see some of my 14 unncessary pounds fall off --------------- or at least a little belly fat. Im training for the 40 mile NYC 5 boro bike tour - so Im working out with kettlebells and bike riding also.

Welcome to the team! I am sure that you are going to enjoy and benefit from Paleo...how could we not? Without eating fake food, we would all be healthy and fit!

Be sure to track your fiber as well!
I've also set mine to track 'other nutrients' Carbs for low carb diets~ And then you can just ignore the carbs in the tracker itself and it will tell you how many carbs you have consumed minus fiber. I also track fat and protien. I try very hard to ignore my calorie intake! I wish there was a way to do away with it!!

Feel free to check out my food tracker to get an idea of what I eat daily~ I DO eat dairy (its a primal thing) and not everyone does.

thanks for all those great suggestions...........I have some reading to do.

One thing that is confusing for me already ----------------- if I use the SP nutrition tool - I dont think Im going to accurately measure carbs...................... I had a bunch of broccoli raab today - which shows as 15 carbs...................... I was also shocked at how high a banana is.

This is going to be an interesting journey -------------------- like a sponge - Ive got lots of info to soak up.

Hi there! Welcome!!

Marks Daily Apple www.marksdailyapple.com/ has TONS of info without having to buy the book!!! It explains primal eating (a touch different than paleo) but its full of amazing facts and I found the book to be redundant with science. ahahah

Then there is the Whole9 whole9life.com/ and they offer a "whole30" program that doesn't require a book. There are tons of great websites out there with wonderful food ideas and great information!

Oh this is awesome! by changing your diet, you can change your body composition. I lost 4.5-5 inches in my waist in seven weeks (I sound like a commercial huh?) buy giving up sugar, gluten, processed oils, legumes, and then going completely paleo. be sure to check out the free summit that's going on right now.

Today is my day one of the Paleo.

Well ------------ Im a newbie here and have decided that since I have given up all and any sweets for lent - it would be a great time to start this lifestyle change.

Im 58 years old - have been an active sparkperson for about 4 years............. over those years Ive lost 6 permanent pounds. Started at 142ish ------------ and my regular weight now seems to be 136. When I say regular weight --------- I mean the one I seem to keep coming back to - with todays lifestyle and habits. I can starve off a few pounds but bob right back up to 136 when I return to normal eating habits.................. ok -so time to take a serious look at normal eating habits and finally make that tough change.. I quit smoking nearly 9 years ago after smoking for 30 years --------------- so I have the dicipline to do this too.

Getting started is a bit shaky - have to find a good source of info and Im not buying the book.

I am going to give this the entire month of march and see how it goes............... its going to be trickly since Im on vacation for 5 days in March........ but I think I can make it work.

Also - Im 58 years old - 5'3" abd 136 pounds.................. but have a 37 inch belly - and can grab a handful of belly fat. I bike ride- jog-power walk ---------- workout with kettlebells and get to the gyn at least 3 times per week. All of that is new for me since on SP - . Ive made alot of great lifestyle changes - but more in the area of working out and less about eating although I do eat differantly than when I first started. I am a firm believer in that eating determines weight -= and working out tones and firms up the body. I really dont care that much what the scale says and long as i can get rid of most of this jiggly body fat. Quite a challenge for my age............. LOL

Time to learn better eating............... so here I am.
