The Leptin reset has a lot to incorporate. I am now finally getting into how to eat and what. Finding a tasteless cocounut oil yesterday was grand. I am not a fan at all of coconut unless it is in a macaroon with chocolate on it.

I am working on the supplement section and getting enough sunshine and darkness into my life. I am Vit D deficient and am on supplementation but Dr. Kruze was writing that until the gut is healed the sunlight doesnt help.

This is my 4th day and I am just so fatigued. I am not doing any exercise as prescribed. Still having cravings but it is manageable.

I used a tsp of honey in my hot chocolate tonight and I am still under the 25gm CHO restriction.

Otherwise I feel good and ....HOPEFUL. I need that hope.

The leptin info is fascinationg. Not sure I am going to do the Leptin Reset Experiment immediately -- 1) getting everything as dark as possible as soon as it gets dark outside is a real bummer at this time of year (I get home from work, it just about immediately gets dark -- and the reverse is true on the first part of the day... severe mental bummer, that). 2) I like Asian foods. As in, REALLY like. Kind of hard to avoid some level of soy (although I try to buy the organic versions, which at least avoids the GMO thing). No I do NOT buy soy protein isolate, or whatever it's other name is. HOWEVER, I just figured out how to make homemade dashi (the real stuff, not with "corn syrup" and a bunch of garbage that's in the dashi bottles in the supermarket -- I'm soon going to be making up a sizeable amount of this Japanese soup/sauce base which is soy free, and freezing it in portions). Also, coconut milk is an excellent soy-free ingredient for Indochinese recipes. So, I have heart that I will be minimizing soy in my life.

It might not quite be 50 g of protein for breakfast, but breakfast tends to be quite paleo (meats, eggs, non-starchy veggies, butter or healthier oils), but in truth, I haven't measured the levels. I've been eating breakfast at about 30-60 minutes after getting up (since I usually make it at home now -- with the lights on even though it is still dark outside), so that's compliant. I do need to be able to sleep better at night -- but tell that to the 2 am bladder call... OR the nocturnal cats...

He seems to like stevia a lot. I'd rather do without adding sweeteners of any kind (a very rare foray into maple syrup or honey, like say ten times a year if that). I find that stevia has a rancid taste all of its own, that to my tongue cannot remotely be termed "sweet". It's probably akin to those whose tastebuds confuse cilantro with soap.

As for coconut oil -- I don't find the unrefined to taste all that coconutty -- but the refined is cheaper so I've been using that. (I can only find the former in pricey health food stores.)

Got rid of the ticker cuz my scale decided to flatter me unduly. I haven't re-gained, just got a better, honest, scale.

Just because you steam it, doesn't mean you can't add herbs and spices. (A gripe at those insipid restaurant "healthy choice" menu selections.)

There is the refined coconut oil that does not smell or taste. That is what I use. I don't care for it either except fresh coconut water or fresh coconut meat.

I will take a look at the Quilt team.

I just read today that fat can substitute for the protein requirements. My nutritional intake today turned out to be 80% fat. Since the coconut oil just doesnt cut it for me I am ordering MCT oil which has the same benefits as CO but without the downsides for me. I have dislike the smell of coconut oil since growing up in FL and smelling all those horrible coconut fragrance tanning oils.

I find this was easy to get into since I was primal/paleo for the most part but the cravings kept making me cheat. I am hoping this reset will help me with that.

I am hoping the addition of MCT will help with the cravings. But for the first time today I didn't give in to my cravings which is really unusual. I usually can't even put in a full day of change without losing out to cravings. emoticon

I got a perfect 50g breakfast using 4 eggs, some ground pork that I spiced like sausage and some veggies and baking it in mini meatloaf pans. Also, hard boiled eggs, leftover meat, and some avocado works well. Dr. K also says you can make some up with fat as well.

As for the tuna, it has to have a good amount of fat too I found or it won't work. I was HUNGRY when I ate chicken breast and got carb cravings.

Has anyone checked out the Quilt Team? It is ALL about this.

I would say that yes, add more protein in the morning and see where it goes, but keep below the 50g of carbs for the day. That too is a big one. It helps transform your body into a fat burner instead of a carb burner =)

Thanks for the info! I learned some things I'm a s-l-o-w loser so its nice to know what to do next if I get stuck with no fat loss.

Right now I'm totally stoked about my whole 30 results (Day 28 is Friday and I'm posting results as I'll be out of town this weekend, but I peeked)

So if you are doing Paleo/Whole 30/etc, you could probably have a gentle start by having more protein at breakfast and see where that takes you?

Goals:
If you want real results-they aren't coming for free.

Bless someone each day with my presence. Make them glad they are here.

I had a hard time getting all the protein required in this morning. I think I put away about 3/4ths and then I could not eat anymore. I was using grassfed hamburger but maybe I will try the two cans of tuna approach tomorrow.

The coconut oil requirement makes me hurl so I have to figure out how to get it down with the meals. It does have thermogenic properties and I can feel my body heat up after taking it.

This is coming to the end of day 2 so I will write more about my discoveries on my spark blog.

I had 2 cans of tuna for breakfast! Filled me right up! THOUGH~ I was hungry at about 2pm Perhaps there wasn't enough calories or whatever. I had my coconut oil too~

Lots of people do roasts and such for breakfast food as well. Look outside the box for ideas on how to get in your protein. I have!

Making your own sausage is also an option, then you can control the ammt of sodium in your food. =)

Hi Denverwoman,
Yes, even the words 'leptin' and 'experiment' appealed to me. I have to admit right now that I am a qualitative researcher (more a storyteller than a numbers/science person).
Anyhow - 50-75 grams of protein is a LOT of bacon and eggs. Salty too. Might have to make up some rissoles and try that, when I get a chance this weekend. And you were right - I could still eat my fried veg.
Looking forward to a hunger-free morning - it's nearly 3 hours since I had brekky and I could not force myself to eat a thing.
Cheers.

I think my biggest thing is that I need to get rid of some of my crap foods. I'm 99% primal (I do dairy) but am already seeing ways to cut more crap out of my way of eating. unsweetened coconut milk beverage with my 2 tbsp coconut oil twice a day. I'm hoping my 45g of protein will be enough to get me through to dinner time tonight. I can see a very small lunch coming my way, but I've got alot to do today, so we'll see if I keep my mind off of it.

Need to get off the computer and get my son to the immediate care to have his cough checked out. He's still not eating... blarg.

I tried the leptin reset. I can't seem to follow it, especially the schedule. But i am trying to get closer to it and eat more in the morning. It does help a lot with cravings.

What are you all eating for breakfast? I'm more following Whole 30 guidelines but have been keeping my carbs close to 50 grams per day anyway. I've been eating 3 eggs for breakfast but that is not getting me to 50 grams of protein. I think that I'm going to incorporate the nutritional aspects of the leptin reset provided I can figure out breakfast.

As for the exercising, I'm doing an Ironman this summer and that workout schedule trumps the leptin reset workout guidelines.

btw, thanks for this new link, I'm going to check it out now.

SCRIBBLEWOMAN, you dont have to give up the veggies if they are paleo but you do have to increase the protein amount for breakfast. being paleo already it is easy to make the few tweaks required.

I am on day two and already my hunger is way diminished from the increased protein. It is going to be really hard to get all the required protein down this morning for breakfast.

Since you self identify as a nerd and a researcher you are going to love his site since he is a true blue stickler for the science.

Hi there - thanks so much for sharing this stuff, I am loving reading and learning about all this. And there is so much out there that I wouldn't come across, if it wasn't for people posting in the forums here... I'm still hooked on eating lots and lots of veg - including for breakfast, but I guess I could give this a go, he says you lose the cravings - imagine!

Yes this is the same thing. I will add the link again because it is more comprehensive. I think it had too many symbols in it.

You will have to cut and paste into the browser. I hope this works.

IGNAZIA~ I would imagine that you do not need it~

This is the one I'm following right now~ jackkruse.com/my-leptin-prescription
/

He recommends a low carb paleo/primal eating plan, keeping under 50g of carbs a day. The hardest part right now for me is the 50g of protein in the am 30 min after waking up.

This sounds interesting, I couldn't open the link. I'd like to know more about the whys of it. For instance, if you are loosing weight/fat and getting sleep would you need this? I've seen/done some low carb sort of ridged food things before, but not sure if same.

I am starting a version of Low carb paleo called the Leptin Reset Experiment. My first day and I feel pretty good. Has anyone tried this? I am doing it for 8 weeks.

I put the info above to read because the biochem behind it is pretty complex so you can get it first hand without filtering it thru me. I am just learning how to do it so I am not an expert by any means.
