I use the Designer Whey powder mixed in coconut or almond milk. The coconut is good, but the almond is a bit too sweet for me. I think the next time I make it, I'll dilute it a bit. Most mixes say to mix with water ... I think -?- or skim milk. I can't do dairy, and I think that's pretty much off the Paleo list anyway.

There are a lot of combination powders I don't think I have seen pea by itself. I just decided of the nutrition labels I had seen I wanted egg white. I went and got the unflavored. Now brand. I will try it in the AM. Bonus, the same store had avocados on sale for $1.10 and buy 4 get one free!! They are small but who cares at that price?!!

Have you ever visited www.helpforibs.com? Although we can't follow Heather's diet, her guidance on always taking in soluble fiber first before insoluble definitely helps me. She is anti-fat though and uses grains. But that part is amazing.

For a long time I used her fennel tea to reduce bloating and gas, but wound up with a food sensitivity to fennel because of it. And it was clean and organic! Too much of one thing, repeatedly, and anyone can set themselves up for a food sensitivity to it!

Flax seed is a combination of both soluble and insoluble. I mix it in soluble non-sweetened applesauce every afternoon after school for my snack (1/2 c. to 1 heaping T.) and man, does that ever help.

Thanks to "I" for the input on brown rice powder. I will look that up! Hemp sounds nasty, Cindy. And probably too much for me. I have plenty of veggie smoothie recipes.

How about pea protein powder? Too high in carbs? Just wondering!

GG hemp is green like a green smoothie. It doesn't taste like much but is kinda gritty. It sent me on fiber overload it is not soluble fiber like I need.

So today I researched and researched and researched reading all I could find. And it comes down to this.
Sunwarrior-Brown rice, slow insulin spike, supposed to be awesome
Some whey brands- some people say cause insulin spike. some say best choice.
Hemp- gets good marks.

My choice? Nothing until after I do the whole 30 then I'll have to pick one because I need it for a trip I'm taking. I think I may do all three. Pick one, then when I'm done with it, do the next and next on rotation. copout but there is such confusing info. And brown rice doesn't hurt me, I'm not allergic to it. so in moderation, I think will be fine.

Wondering about the taste of hemp powder?
Although it may also be too much fiber for my system...

I am not diabetic, but I DO notice an issue from whey and brown rice protein so I know it is true what they are saying. I am going to go get the unflavored egg white protein in the next few days. Been too busy for a 1/2 hour ride to the health food store.

From what I read, Jack Kruse states that whey itself will cause an insulin spike, making the problem inherent to dairy itself, so hemp might be better but the flavor of the whey would be irrelevant.

However, I was listening to the Living LaVida Lo Carb radio show, and Jimmy Moore asked his guest, Dr. William Davis (who wrote Wheat Belly) about this very issue. Dr. Davis said the affect was so small (in over all impact) that he did not put that in his recommendations.

As I do not have any trouble with blood sugar tests, I am not going to worry about it. People struggling to regulate blood sugar for diabetes or similar may feel differently.

I had hemp protein, it just has too much fiber for me! I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and so with that it was too much for my system to take! I think it is Paleo friendly though, as much as a powder can be.

What about hemp protein? I've been looking for a new protein powder. I take it camping and use it for those days I just can'teat enough protein. Also, its a great thing to take on trips/vacations because its shelf stable.

Jack Kruse doesn't advocate Whey because it affects blood sugar, but still lists it as an option. A last resort. I am not sure he knows about unflavored egg white protein it would have nothing that would put him off I don't think...That is what I am about to try after a ride out to the health food store.

If you find one you like that follows the Jack Kruse way please tell me .. I just am not loving the 4 eggs in the morning. I really need to find a better way to get 50-70g of protein in the morning.
Thanks

I tried the Jay Robb egg white vanilla and don't like it. WAY too strong stevia taste for me. I am going to find some unflavored egg white powder and make my own again with vanilla and honey and flax oil. Or even vanilla and my own amount of stevia.

If you read Dr. Kruse he has a home made shake (that has 4 eggs ) that he drinks.. if you want.. I am very new to this.. but he seems to make the most intelligent facts.
I have lost some weight but now its very slow... wondering if this would help?

I know it is not Paleo persay, but it is better than the alternative for me, which is eating nothing til too late in the day and then overeating or eating something I have no business eating in the first place, like fast food. We all have things to work out to be 100% and it is a work in progress.

I got the Jay Robb powder at a local grocery store - sort of a Whole Foods "wanna-be". Kind of like Whole Foods only much smaller scale. It's not my favorite, I prefer the whey protein shake put out by Precision Engineered Hardcore Protein. 36 grams protein.

That being said,(for Bobbrand & some others) I follow the Protein Power Lifeplan more than the Paleo so it is acceptable for the way that I eat. I don't do it all of the time, but when time crunching it's an easy go-to.

We all have to do what works best for each of us.

I know it's right to eat something else, but I also want to be prepared for when life just doesn't work out. It's an 80/20. I appreciate the chicken suggestion - though I loathe chicken for breakfast. I do normally make egg cups, but I just didn't get to it this week.

Oh I like the About Time...so many options.

I also agree with the others, stay away from protein shakes all together. One of the rules of Paleo is "if the food didn't exist 10,000 years ago, don't consume it"

If you are running late for breakfast use the pre-cooked chicken idea, hard boiled eggs, pre-cooked egg cups with veggies etc..

Your body needs food and fiber not a shake

Our Crossfit Paleo nutrition coach recommended About Time Whey Protein. She said it's one of few paleo-friendly protein powders.

I found a 2lb container on Amazon for $35 with shipping.

I might try the Jay Robb product. I'd have to get unflavored as the vanilla has Xylitol which I can't do. Where did you get it? I found it on Amazon, but I'm wondering if any local places might have it in stock.

Cindy, I got a small container of that Jay Robb egg white protein. It's okay - not intense enough chocolate flavor for me, so I add about 1T of Hersheys cocoa powder and that fixes it up.

And I have, instead of using water, used cold coffee as the liquid. I don't know if you drink coffee or not, but I do and I do like that that way, I still add the extra Hershey's cocoa powder too... Makes a mocha!

I was just at Vitamin Shoppe and they have the exact same things as my health food store only better sales and a bonus card that got me $25 off today! I have NO issue with them! Other than they do not have any unflavored egg protein which would be preferable to me. Everything has something undesireable, including the Carnivore and Beef proteins. I got a sample of Jay Robb egg white protein but I probably won't like it. I am having a hard time with breakfast lately.

I avoid any food product that is incomplete nutrition. Natural meats have vitamins and minerals that you need! Make your breakfast a priority and make time for it. You don't have to cook. You can do what I do and have cold chicken breast and fruit for breakfast. I just warm the chicken up in the microwave.

I cook a big batch of boneless, skinless chicken breast in the oven and always keep some in the fridge ready to eat. See my blog on how I cook the chicken:

I can't speak for any of them that you listed (though my sentiments exactly on the MDA Primal Fuel), but wanted to chime in on where to order from... I've had good luck ordering from the Vitamin Shoppe in general... also from iHerb.com and vitacost.com. Vitamin Shoppe is a bit slower than the other two, but product gets to me just fine.

I have to say it's difficult to find something that doesn't have a ton of soy or artifical sweetener in it - NOW brand is pretty good, though. It only has Soy Lecithin which, on the scale of evils, it's low grade evil. (I figure if my super soy hating friend is ok with it and likes the taste, it's gotta be pretty decent. :) You can get it through bodybuilding.com and I'd go with the vanilla - more versitile.

I have to find a drinkable breakfast option for the days I'm running late. I discovered this morning that my old protein powder has sugar in it and SOY. But far more evil: corn syrup solids.

Can anyone recommend anything?
I found this one that claims: "Dymatize Has Captured The Unique Properties Of Beef In A Delicious Convenient Powder" and comes is some nasty flavors. www.bodybuilding.com/store/dym/elite

I know these will likely have whey in them which is not a problem for me; I'm ok with that. Has anyone tried anything they liked?

I know it would be better to not drink my breakfast, but this morning my options were nothing, muffins from a coffee shop, and shake. Trying to get in my 30g upon waking.
