Make sure to add vinegar when making stock to get more of the gelatin out of the bones.

LifeRocksYay (I like this username!)- I'll make sure to put soup bones (they sell them for cheap at our local deli) on my shopping list.

I'm probably going to research for yogurts that don't contain sugars (few and far in between in my town).

CindyTW- Hm, that makes sense. I tend to eat every 5 to 6 hours, I'll try every 4 to 3 hours and see if it helps.

I don't drink coffee more then once or maybe twice a month. Not unless I really need the caffeine or it's in a recipe. And most the time, if I'min a situation where I need caffeine I tend to go to tea instead of coffee.

Hi, I just want to second Sushi Yummy and suggest the Gaps diet. Bone broth could start helping you and if your family won't do yogurt, you can make saurkraut incredibly cheaply and start just by taking the liquid. That will build your system some beneficial bacteria (probiotics). Most medical doctors will have no idea how to help you so ask around if they know anything about gut health/healing.
Good luck!

I meant maybe you are not realizing you are hungry soon enough. Maybe if you usually go 5 hours you need to go 4 or 3. Experiment and see. do you drink coffee? That is another thing that will cramp you up if you are sensitive to it...

Hm..well I know bacon and chicken are out. I tend to eat maybe one thing for a few days then switch to something else.

And my stomach turns just looking and smelling beef, so I'm not really sure I even want to test those waters.

But my mom grilled some Tilapia yesterday and I got to taste a bite of it and really liked the taste, so I'll probably try that next.

I know eggs, cheese and yogurts are fine. Milk makes me cramp up within a few minutes, and makes me nauseous for hours...

I don't think I'm eating too little, I mean, I eat when I'm hungry and stop eating when I'm full. I tend to eat enough calories to fall into the 1500 to 1800 range.

Well, the most mild are chicken breast and white fish. Try only eating chicken breast for a few days, then try only white fish, then try something else like lean pork. Keep it to like 4 days with just one type so you can really pinpoint it. Sometimes reactions are delayed. I also know if I wait too long to eat I cramp up. Try eating more frequently.

Well, when I was eating no meat, I felt great (until the lack of protein kicked in), then when all we had was meat and eggs, I started getting horrible stomach cramps, and felt sluggish, had no energy, now that I'm on a moderately balanced (ish) diet, I still get awful stomach cramps.

Should I just eliminate meat and rely on alternate protein sources?

Have you tried an elimination diet? I know when I was eating gluten NOTHING digested right for a while. When I first developed my dairy intolerance I had a hard time too.

Depends on how often you use it. There are about 22-23 servings (23 grams protein each serving) in a container.

What is it called?

I'm getting my check soon, so I might just buy it myself, along with anything else.

whey concentrate is a better option.

I get this stuff. It comes unflavored or in Vanilla or Chocolate (fair trade cocoa) (sweetened with stevia). It comes from the milk of grass fed, organic cows. Non GMO, lactose reduced and gluten free.

MIKECALM- I don't think I've ever even seen unflavored protein powder. It's very difficult to find healthy foods and even then they're extremely expensive.

I'm going to do a little reasearch and see if anything comes up, though.

ANIDUCKTHISTLE- I'll make sure to look into that, along with possibly an intolerance.

And if I don't eat fruits, I tend to feel really ill, but I'll try it.

And I tried cooking chicken down to the point that it was falling apart and then eating it and I still got a stomach ache, so I don't know.

Also, the protein powder I use has whey isolate in it.

Dramaclimax,
Is the protein powder you use just desiccated whey protein or is it isolated whey protein? or is it some other type of protein?

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

Hi, I use unflavoured whey protein. It doesn't have any chemical taste, rather like a bit of powdered milk in glass of water. I take it with water only, and tastes great.

You might want to find out if you have an overgrowth of candida in your guts. If you do it is fighting against your body's natural digestive bacteria and possibly winning. That would cause lots of intestinal pain and other symptoms. Google it.

keep away from sugar of all kinds even cut back on fruits.
Have you tried putting a little meat in a food processor and making a salad-like thing; like tuna salad or chicken salad? I do that with ham sometimes and it's delish. Being all chopped up fine helps the tummy to get things going. And, if you can afford some digestive enzymes and betaine hydrochloric acid that will help too.

But most important; find a doctor who understands the importance of digestion and doesn't think candidiasis is a myth.

LIZZABEE- Well, my mom refuses to buy meat from walmart, as the meat at our walmart is extremely low quality (we've even bought a couple packages of spoiled meat from there, yuck!), we buy it from a local produce store (and I think we've been to the farm that produces the meat found there).

In meat country (i.e. Texas) it's not hard to find good quality meats (sometimes is about as easy as stepping outside with a shotgun).

I just got on medicaid, so I'm checking into what coverage I have, hopefully I'll get to see a doctor soon.

FIT_ARTIST- I highly doubt the powder my mom bought is high quality, it's the Biggest Loser brand protein powder (and it is whey, with added chemicals). But I already opened it so I'm determined to use all of both the flavors (even though I can easily taste the chemicals in it..bleh).

And I eat eggs from time to time, but I can't eat egg whites, just the yolk. And even though my family eats cheese, they're against getting any form of yogurt, but I know the bacteria found in it could help with my digestive issues.

Well I can't really help since you don't know what the problem is, but I wanted to mention that I have a friend who thought for years she can't eat meat without getting sick, then discovered she just can't eat meat from Walmart. Their meat usually is fresh and beautiful, but whatever they add to it caused a serious problem.

Have you been checked for ulcers? I think you just need to get to the doctor. Hope you can find a way soon.

First, your protein powder (is it whey) shouldn't taste bad. That MAY be an indicator of poorly processed powder. I can drink my powder straight up with water, and it tastes creamy and really nice. Mind you, I do pay extra for it.
Second, how about eggs? Greek yogurt? Really high in protein and relatively inexpensive compared to meat.

(I have no idea if I posted this before.)

Alright, so I've had issues with meat (and solid foods in general) well...since I could remember.

I'd either eat it and get massive stomach cramps or push the solid foods away for mushy foods, like noodles, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, you get the gist, right?

Well, the problem is, I can't eat most of those foods now and after about 3 weeks of suffering from mild to moderate stomach cramps I've gotten to the point that I'm just drinking smoothies and broths (though I ran out of broth recently) and even the broth gives me mild cramps, though not too bad.

I drink a smoothie with protein powder in it every morning, but I have to use a bunch of sweet fruits to cover the taste (it tastes awful).

I'm not getting near enough protein and am getting too many carbs and I'm really starting to feel it, so, I need help.

I'm going to the doctor to ask about why it's so damned hard for me to eat meat, but I just don't have the money to do so...so until then, I just want to make sure I'm getting enough nutrients, if anyone can help, I'd be extremely grateful.
