I just had to buy a ham this weekend, you all made me so hungry for it. And I can hardly wait to get down to the bone and do the next thing with it. Also I love the bone broth idea. Never tried that but I will definately start that with my boney leftovers.

I love this! There's a ham bone in my freezer and I have the same dilemma.

I'm thinking maybe I'll add it to the next bone broth. I collect bones in a large baggie in the freezer and make up a batch about once a month from them. Then I freeze it in ice cube trays and use as needed for cooking. No reason I can't throw a ham bone in there.

Another option is I can throw it in the crockpot with an all meat chili. Let it stew all day to add some extra flavor.

I just have to get out of my little box and quit thinking of it as a base for split pea soup. Those days are gone

Let us know how it turns out. I love soup and would make it more if hubby liked it as much. I have to try the greens idea, haven't gotten into cooking just greens much, but it sounds tasty.

Thanks to both of you. I was so exhausted last night, I couldn't keep my eyes open. I think I'll experiment with the veggie soup and add a ton of veggies/flavoring and will let you know how it comes out. It'll be the blend of both of your wonderful suggestions :)

I guess exhausted brain (me) doesn't lend well to "inventiveness!" I almost laughed out loud at your post because it is so obvious now that I see someone else write it!! ha ha That's what I'll do...but I'll still wait and see what other creative ideas arise.

Thanks, my dear :)

Ham vegetable soup-you don't need beans to make a tasty primal soup! Be inventive with your vegetable supply.

Tonight I cooked a 1/2 ham with the bone. It was so good, but now I'm left with the bone! No more pea, bean or lentil soup...the old stand-by's when using up a ham bone.

Anybody have a Paleo use for using up a ham bone? Would love to hear some ideas!
