Do uyou have a cookie 'shooter'? You know the kind you use to make sugar cookies? You can flavor the ground meat and then put it into the cookie press. Then you make it into strips and dry those :)

thanks, I'll try it. I have a mess of venison to use up before the end of the month. Hubby's teeth are bothering him and he can't eat steak anymore. I'm going to grind some for hamburger and maybe make some jerky. wish it was a simple thing to make that jerky out of hamburger. hubby'd like that.

Kitty, the secret to jerky is don't buy it make it! I can't eat the store bought stuff anymore, it is way too salty and nasty.

I started making my own using the oven. I slice the beef, and then marinate it over night. I do use a little salt for flavor, but usally like 1 teaspoon to 2-3 pounds of meat. I make a rub that I like and apply it to the meat and then put it in a plastic container. I fill the container with water to cover the meat and add about 1/2 cup of vinegar (not strictly paleo, but it kills germs). The next day I blot it off and put it on my cookie cooling racks and pop it in the oven. Set the oven to the lowest setting and leave the door propped open. It takes about 6 hours, but it is worth the wait.

About two weeks ago I found a dehydrator at the thrift shop for $5, so now I use that. But, it is totally doable in the oven and SOOOOOO wirth it.

boy I wish I could eat jerky, but as soon as I do I wake up five pounds heavier. Salt never used to bother me but now it does.

I don't use meal plans that are really detailed. I just make one in my head for the week. Like cook a whole chicken on Monday, eat the leftovers for breakfast or lunch the next day, etc.

I find with paleo I don't need a meal plan. I just eat when I am hungry and make sure it is 'safe' food. I do measure out somethings, like almonds because I don't want to eat too many. But other than that if I am hungry I eat. Usually a lot of beef jerky for snacks.

I only use SparkPeople to track what I'm eating. You can adjust your nutrients, which is what I do since I'm trying to eat moderately low-carb. But other than tracking my calories and carb intake, I don't use it.

you can make a meal plan. you have to turn off spark people meal plans and then you can add anything you want and check how it's nutrients work with your desires.

I don't use Spark, never have. I follow a low carb/paleo plan and they do not exactly believe in either.

I keep only "acceptable" foods in the house....except for a few items for my son. I just eat whatever I want that's in the house. I almost never plan. I have a large freezer and it's not unusual to see me defrosting something an hour before I cook it!

I would love to find a place where I could put in my likes and dislikes and get something generated for me....but so far I've not found one that's worth it!

Do you make meal plans? I wish I could use the spark ones. I'm surprised how many times they want to feed me a bagel. I sure work better *with* them.
