I agree, I won't give up chocolate completely, so I eat the organic dark stuff, too. I eat it pretty infrequently, maybe only a couple times a week, but it really hits the spot! I also refuse to give up alcoholic beverages completely -- maybe that makes me a bad person, but the right drink with a good meal and/or good company just works for me!

I refuse to give up chocolate completely. I just can't do it. Right now I am eating organic dark chocolate covered almonds for my fix. Still not perfect, but better than other options.

Plus, if I don't enjoy eating I will not be a hapyp person. Two or three a day are not going to kill my lifestyle.

Heck I loist 1.5 pounds this week, even with the chocolate :)

Chocolate chip or brownie, chocolate chip or brownie? how to decide.

I say YES. I miss them. not so much when they aren't there, but more when they ARE there of course. I'm doing better but would still give in if they kept tempting me day in and day out.

When I make cookies for my hubby and grandkids I keep them in a coffee can up high and they don't bother me, but if my hubby gets them down and leaves them down my hand eventually gets away from me and sneaks a couple.

Since I began years ago, keeping small bits of chocolate in the house for my daughter's PMS, it quit enticing me like it did when it was only available at the checkout line; so I consider that a winning strategy and I practice it with other foods as well. The basics for me were to keep them out of sight and in an out of the way location.

I think mine has to be brownies. I love them. But, I think I miss chips and dips more. I know I can eat my dip with celery or cucumber, but it just isn't the same.

I just gotta throw it out there, my personal weakness is chocolate chip cookies. I don't miss them when they're not there, I kind of miss them when they are there, but if I let myself eat one, I'll eat 15. No joke. Thankfully the longer I eat paleo the easier it is for me to forget that I ever loved grains.

Yeah about the whole grain bread. I'd been eating 100% whole wheat bread except for an occasional Hot dog bun since 30 years before my diabetes diagnosis. Did that help? NO.

So in that respect South Beach is useless, at least to me now. maybe if I'd known about it 20-30 years ago, it might have done the trick, who knows?

If I ever get my weight down to a reasonable 150 or so, Maybe I can eat an occasional, slice of bread or a piece of fruit. We'll see if I ever get there, won't we? LOL Kitty

Nutmeg, please share the carrot cake recipe.
Article today in one of our papers concerning sodium intake for kids- Kids' meals at restaurants are loaded with sodium but parents buy them because a) they are cheap and b) there are no leftovers and c) no doubt there will be a free prize to go with the meal. UGH!...MJ

To me, sugar is a drug and that's why people keep "jonesin" for it - same thing happens with bread actually. Your body gets that "lift", shortlived as it is, and it wants it again and again.* It's physiology plain and simple. Our culture has been so duped and we're paying the price with our health and quality of life.

*Kids with autism and their preferred diets being a prime example (mac & cheese, milk and cookies, pizza, chicken fingers, etc).

The more I read about what I SHOULD be eating and why, the better decisions I make. I'm SO grateful for the internet!

Congrats on eating a portion of blueberries, too!

Who said bread is boring? SO true! Except if I were to miss anything, it'd be a toasted crusty butter laden piece of European whole grain... with a slice of cheese and tomato ... (I'm on the spectrum!) ;0) Alas, 'twill never happen, and I'm better off for it.

Just because you can and it's there, doesn't mean it's good for me!

Nutmeg - please don't go out of your way to find the article. I'm with you and don't believe a word! lol

Oh, and Kitty, while I may not dig brownies (never have, but DH?! yeah!), I can relate cause I used to have a love affair with Lays chips. Last time I tried, I didn't enjoy it. YAY!

speaking of treats,
I saw a low carb cheese cake recipe last Christmas. sounded nice but came out bitter from the Splenda sweetened sugar free chocolate syrup it had in it. also flat and just not satisfying. I'll try to make one with some almond flour this year and see if that is better.

brownies or cookies.

if it's sweet and I can grab it and pretend I didn't see that, I'd eat em all day. I'd have to watch that. maybe put them in a container behind all the other stuff in the freezer so I have to unload one of the shelves to get them out. LOL

I do keep frozen blueberries, raspberries and strawberries in the freezer. I'm eating a SERVING of blueberries, right now. usually I'll eat the whole container (pint). I feel so virtuous.

it does satisfy a sweet tooth. not to atkins, but Plenty Paleo. LOL Kitty

There are things I miss, but I still don't find this lifestyle boring.

The blogger made it seem like all you cold eat was plain salad and huncks of meat. Which I admit when I am in a hurry that is a good go to food, but when I have time to cook I come up with some pretty tasty treats.

I saw a paleo 'brownie' recipe. I haven't tried it yet though. Maybe one day. I have made carrot 'cake' cookies and they are delish.

Well, *I* miss beans, and sometimes grains. my favorite was barley, but Sometimes I miss a piece of toast. However, I have diabetes and any one of those raises my blood sugars, so I don't use them very often at all. I won't say never cause it's just then when you go and gorge. LOL Kitty

I miss brownines most of all.

So true! You know what's boring? Bread is boring! How many different ways do you need to dress up bread, rice, etc. to make it not boring?! As many ways as there are to make a sandwich, I would bet there are twice as many to make a salad.

I want to read the blog post to see where the person was coming from. Boring in what way? Do they miss the grains, legumes, what?

Do I, personally, find paleo boring? Sometimes I do: salads salads salads. I get into a rut because it's easier to do the same thing - my own fault. Everyone once in a while I shake it up and find a new recipe - I get inspiration from a lot of blogs and that keeps me going, too.

No way is it boring- I guess it all depends on what you choose to eat but the possibilities are endless especially with seasonal foods and recipes. Even a daily lunchtime salad is an adventure with all the things that can be added- leftover meats, canned fish, hard cooked egg, seeds. When we get into winter it will be soups. The only daily constant for me is breakfast with a scrambled egg plus added egg white and a bowl of fruit salad-love it!

I definitely don't find it boring! There are so many fabulous recipes that I actually can't physically eat enough to satiate my interest in all the different things out there. I've found that with paleo, though, I do need to be more adventurous with my meats and vegetables. I think I've said it about 500 times by now, but I can't wait until pumpkins start showing up because I am anxious to see what I can make with it that isn't just pumpkin pie!

I'm sorta half and half. It can get boring after a while, but then I realize that we're eating the same thing all the time and I make chili instead of hamburgers, or I add onions and Mrs. Dash to the hamburgers.

We're sorta limited since my husband's teeth aren't good so he can't eat steak or roast unless it fork tender but he can eat chicken and hamburger so I try to mix it up often. SOmetimes I'll take out a package of steak and cook it in liquid and sorta make a stew with it.

Well, for what it's worth, kitty

So I read somewhere that an individual finds eating paloe boring. Am I strange in that I don't?

I think if you have even basic cooking skills you can make some pretty interesting flavors with veggies, spcies, herbs and healthy oils. I love grilled, or broiled veggies with some olive oil and garlic.

Even my beef jerky can get some pretty intense flavor. I use that as my main snack staple because it is easy to take and eat at work.

So am I the weird-o, or is the blogger the weird-o?
