We used to live in AK, and friends canned their own catch and shared. I miss those days! Halibut, too. Hmmm.

I went to Wal-Mart today and no luck with the no-sodium canned salmon. I'll keep looking; when I find it, you'll be first to know.

you said "Lay's" ... that's a dirty word in my house. :P) I look forward to saying that I've lost my taste for them, too. Again, YOU'LL be first to know - lol.

What's a hoot?- CloverLeaf is Alaskan wild salmon canned in the USA! I'm sure you'll have luck finding some other brand, happy hunting. I too am affected greatly by salt so every chance I get to reduce sodium I take it. As for Lay's- I've totally lost my appetite for junk food but can understand fully the phenomenon of one chip leading to a whole bag!

Thanks much - I see you're in Canada and that's why that brand doesn't ring a bell. Dang. :P

CloverLeaf wild salmon, either sockeye or pink. It comes both salted and unsalted.
Love cilantro and parsley-have a bunch growing in the garden right now. Mushrooms are fungi, certainly something our ancestors foraged for. I love both cremini and portabella.

Molliemac - what brand fish do you buy without salt?

I'd also add parsley and cilantro. We returned from a sm. vacation to a bare fridge and I decided to see how long I could last before restocking. I mixed parsley and cilantro, stems and all, with the juice of a lemon and equal liquid water to the lemon juice in the blender. The "slurry" was tasty atop a red pepper and some tuna. Weird, but I know parsley and cilantro are nutrient-packed. Are mushrooms Paleo? I add mushrooms to my fritatta's in the morning. That's all I can think of to add right now.

Here's my Top Ten list, in no particular order.
1. Almond Butter. I just tried it today (MaraNatha makes a Natural, No Salt Added, Raw Almond Butter) with celery sticks. I bet it's even better with apples and bananas!
2. Pomegranate Arils. Excellent for a sweet tooth!
3. Juicer for freshly squeezed OJ. Great for dressings!
4. Flaxseed Oil. Also great for dressings!
5. Romaine/Red Leaf Lettuce. I like salads better than cooked vegetables.
6. Trader Joe's Handful of Raw Walnuts packs. Already individually packaged (1 oz each) and not overpriced!
7. Whole Fruit (particularly Nectarines...yummy!). Great to eat on the run!
8. Giant pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts, packaged in twos. Great to throw in the freezer and grab one out at a time to thaw, cook and throw in salads.
9. Egg Whites. (The book limits to 6 eggs/week, but I add unlimited egg whites.)
10. Crockpot. My sirloin beef roast came out really well after slow-cooking it overnight. Also great for soups.

Looks a lot like my list Maura. I plan for a whole week- 3 dinners with fish, 2 poultry, 1 lean beef and 1 lean pork. Eggs for breakfast (I add liquid egg whites), unsalted canned fish in water for lunches as well as leftover meat from the previous day, ingredients for daily salads (lots of dark greens), fresh and frozen fruits and lots of orange veggies like carrots and squash. Extras are pumpkin seeds (less omega-6 than sunflower seeds), unsalted nuts, olive oil, lemon juice and a local salsa that has no additives. I shop for produce twice a week so that it is always fresh. Shopping is so easy, no more fighting the crowds in the cereal and chips aisles :)...MJ
