emoticon emoticon Since April begins with " April Fool's Day" I thought it only fitting to share some chuckles during this month.

A woman and a man are involved in a car accident; it's a bad one. Both of their cars are totally demolished but amazingly neither of them are hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the woman says, "So you're a man; that's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but fortunately we are unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days". Flattered, the man replied, "Oh yes, I agree with you completely!" "This must be a sign from God!" The woman continued, "And look at this, here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune." Then she hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap back on, and hands it back to the man. The man asks, "Aren't you having any?" The woman replies, "No. I think I'll just wait for the police...."

Lost on a rainy night, a nun stumbles across a monastery and requests shelter there. Fortunately, she's just in time for dinner and was treated to the best fish and chips she had ever tasted. After dinner, she went into the kitchen to thank the chefs. She was met by two of the Brothers. The first one says, "Hello, I am Brother Michael, and this is Brother Charles." "I'm very pleased to meet you," replies the nun. "I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful dinner. The fish and chips were the best I've ever had. Out of curiosity, who cooked what?" Brother Charles replied, "Well, I'm the fish friar." She turned to the other Brother and said, "Then you must be....?" "Yes, I'm afraid so..... I am the chip monk."

A couple lived near the ocean and used to walk the beach a lot. One summer they noticed a girl who was at the beach pretty much every day. She wasn't unusual, nor was the travel bag she carried, except for one thing; she would approach people who were sitting on the beach, glance around furtively, then speak to them. Generally the people would respond negatively and she would wander off, but occasionally someone would nod and there would be a quick exchange of money and something she carried in her bag. The couple assumed she was selling drugs, and debated calling the cops, but since they didn't know for sure they just continued to watch her. After a couple of weeks the wife said, "Honey, have you ever noticed that she only goes up to people with boom boxes and other electronic devices?" He hadn't, and said so. Then she said, "Tomorrow I want you to get a towel and our big radio and go lie out on the beach. Then we can find out what she's really doing." Well, the plan went off without a hitch and the wife was almost hopping up and down with anticipation when she saw the girl talk to her husband and then leave. The man walked up the beach and met his wife at the road. Well, Is she selling drugs?" she asked excitedly. "No, she's not," he said, enjoying this probably more than he should have. "Well, What is it, then? What does she do?" his wife fairly shrieked. The man grinned and said, "She's a battery salesperson." "Batteries?" cried the wife. "Yes," he replied. "She sells C cells by the sea shore...."

A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, "You should do it, because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long get our coffee." The husband said, "You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee." Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee. "Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me." So she fetched the Bible, and opened to the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says.........."HEBREWS"

emoticon This month I am daily sharing a helpful hint or more that may surprise or delight you. I am also adding a comment or note of interest you may wish to remember (from my point of view ... lol). Feel free to pass any of it on.
emoticon INSECTS IN THE GARDEN
APHIDS: emoticon
1) To keep aphids and other pests off your roses: Finely chop 1 onion and 2 medium cloves of garlic together. Put ingredients into a blender with 2 cups of water and blend on high. Strain out pulp. Pour liquid into spray bottle. Spray a fine mist on rose bushes, making sure to coat both tops and bottoms of leaves.
2) Use aluminum foil around the base of plants such as tomatoes. The reflection confuses the insects and drives them away.
SPIDER MITES: emoticon
1) Combine 1/2 cup buttermilk, 4 cups wheat flour and 5 gallons water. Suffocates spider mites and other mites.
MEALYBUGS: emoticon
1) Apply rubbing alcohol to insect clusters with cotton swab. Wash with insecticidal soap and rinse. Isolate infected plant if possible.
CABBAGE WORMS: emoticon
1) Sprinkle flour on developing cabbage heads. The flour swells up inside the worms and bursts their intestines.
SLUGS: emoticon
1) Sprinkle salt directly onto slug. They shrivel up and die.
2) Place shallow bowl of beer on the ground near slug trails and leave overnight.
3) Copper wire? That's what Martha Stewart says. Coil a piece of wire around the base of your plants to give slugs a shocking experience. They won't come back.
emoticon GENERAL INSECT REPELLENT: To help protect fruits, vegetables and shrubs from insects attacks.
Recipe 1:
1/2 cup dead insects
2 cups water
When insects infest fruits, vegetables or shrubs, identify and gather the pests. Collect at least 1/2 cupful. Place in an old blender with the water. Blend on high, and then strain out the pulp using a cheesecloth or fine sieve. Dilute at a rate of 1/4 cup to 1 cup of water. Pour liquid into a spray bottle and apply to plants. Will keep up to a year, stored in a tightly sealed container.
Recipe 2:
3 hot green peppers (canned or fresh)
2 or 3 cloves garlic
3/4 tsp liquid soap
3 cups water
Puree the peppers and garlic cloves in a blender. Pour into a spray bottle and add the liquid soap and water. Let stand 24 hours. Strain out pulp and spray onto infested plants, making sure to coat both tops and bottoms of leaves.
emoticon CAUTION: Always test any new insecticide on a few small leaves before starting a full-scale application.
TIPS: emoticon
1) Helpful Plants:
Intersperse your roses and vegetables with other helpful plants, such as onions, garlic, and chives.
2) Helpful Bugs:
Ladybird beetles (ladybugs) and praying mantis are great assistants to gardeners. Ladybugs are sold in a "cold" state. The praying mantis egg sac is usually obtained from a garden supply store, or hardware store with a gardening center. Secure the sac to the stem of a plant in the center of an infested area. When the insects hatch, they will quickly devour aphids and other problem insects.

NOTE: Both of these helpful insects will stay in an area where there is plenty to eat. If you have only one or two lightly infested rose bushes, don't expect your helpers to stick around.
emoticon emoticon Sunday will begin a new month and a different type of share. I hope you'll continue to stop by and enjoy the theme for April of 2012.

Wilson Tennis Balls instigated this list, however I imagine any tennis ball would do the trick. lol
1- Store valuables. Make a two-inch slit along one seam of a Wilson Tennis Ball, then place valuables inside. If you hide the doctored tennis ball among your other sports equipment, remember not to use it.
2- Fluff your down jacket in the dryer and reduce static cling. Throw in a handful of Wilson Tennis Balls to fluff the down while the jacket is tumbling in the dryer.
3- Childproof the sharp corners of furniture. Cut old Wilson Tennis Balls in half or quarters and use Scotch Packaging Tape to tape the sections over sharp corners of coffee tables, end tables, cabinets, dining room tables, and other pieces of furniture that might be dangerous to a small child.
4- Make parking cars in your garage easier. Hang a Wilson Tennis Ball on a string from the garage ceiling so it will hit the windshield at the spot where you should stop your car.
5- Prevent a chrome trailer hitch from getting scratched. Slit a Wilson Tennis Ball and put it over the trailer hitch as a protective cover.
6- Make a walker glide more easily. Cut a hole in two Wilson Tennis Balls and fit them on the back feet of the walker.
7- Give yourself a foot massage. Roll your foot over a Wilson Tennis Ball.
8- Make a back massager. Put several Wilson Tennis Balls inside a sock and tie at the end. This is frequently used by the labor coach to massage the back of a woman in labor.
9- Remove cobwebs from unreachable places. Wrap a Wilson Tennis Ball inside a dust cloth secured with a few rubber bands, then toss at the distant cobweb.
10- Play "basket tennis." Remove the bottom from an empty coffee can, and nail the can above the garage door. Use a Wilson Tennis Ball to play basketball.
11- Strengthen your grip. Squeeze a Wilson Tennis Ball in each hand.
12- Prevent snoring. Sew a Wilson Tennis Ball inside a pocket on the back of your pajama top to prevent you from sleeping on your back.
13- Prevent a deck chair from slipping through the cracks of a dock. Slit four Wilson Tennis Balls and fit them on the feet of the deck chair.
14- Make a back massager. Put several Wilson Tennis Balls inside a sock and tie the sock at the end. This type of massager is frequently used by a labor coach to massage the back of a woman in labor.
15- Keep your car door open without wasting the battery. Wedge a Wilson Tennis Ball into the door jamb to depress the interior light switch.

emoticon Some "wacky" uses for peanut butter are listed below, but know there are more out there for sure ... LOL
1) Shave. Former senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona once shaved with peanut butter while on a camping trip. (For best results, avoid shaving with Extra Crunchy.)
2) Remove bubblegum from hair. Rub a dollop of Peanut Butter into the bubblegum.
3) Remove airplane glue or cement glue from furniture. Simply rub the dried glue with Peanut Butter.
4) Grease a car or truck axle. George Washington Carver developed axle grease from peanuts.
5) Make peanut soup. Peanut butter is the main ingredient in any recipe for peanut soup.
6) Trap mice or rats. Bait a mouse or rat trap with Peanut Butter. Mice actually prefer peanut butter over cheese.

Baking soda has many different uses in the household. Here are some hints to use it in the following ways:
1) To make your own baking powder, stir and sift together 2 parts of Cream of Tartar to 1 part baking soda and 1 part cornstarch.
2) Be sure to keep an extra box of baking soda by your stove in case of grease or electrical fire. Scatter the powder by the handful to safely put it out.
3) Keep a container of baking soda in your garage as well as in your car to put out a fire. It won't damage anything it touches.
