Any employment can serve as a springboard to something better. Getting a new job is generally easier when one is already employed.

Oh, gawd, I feel like I am pulling a slot machine in Atlantic City (and I do not gamble). I pressed the wrong button, and applied for a job I've not much interest in (and may be overqualified for). Somehow I'd thought if I navigated away from the page, it would not go through.

If they email for an interview, do I say I'm busy. It is possible they could email me directly.

It's not like they are bad (I already know from bad..ie, the interview the day before yesterday); it's just that - even at my level - I may be overqualified for that job. Or at the very least, it's an industry I've been out of for a very, very long time (though I have by far the most years' experience in that industry ... the nature of it does not change; and it's labor-intensive enough that technology hardly makes a dent in it, either ...)

The best thing I can say is, that my interview pant suit probably would NOT look out of place were I to interview there ... honest--by and large--there is at least a business casual, if not better-attired dress code (except casual Fridays or "Operation Cleanup" days [assuming they are still not paperless as an office/industry]...}

Love your suggestions, TT...especially good to be vigilant to that "glazed over" look and to modify accordingly!

Keep at it...hoping for a successful pay-off in your near future!

Show a measure of patience in your interviewing techniques, this is particularly directed to non-managerial/non-professional job seekers such as myself.

I have just decided to swap ye olde 2-minute behavioral-interview-type canned presentations, in favor of what I call a "narrative tree" ... answering the interview questions directly. Not attempting to command the interview unless I've got an aphasic interviewer.

Spoon out the problem identification/obstacles I encountered/how I solved it/what happened next, like I'm feeding the baby I'd never had ... by doing a lot of listening ...

I recall - before my self-reinvention in light of being structurally long term unemployed - that a 2 minute presentation used to get me that "glazed over" look. I can't blame it much on having been obese at the time. Even in my migrated-to career, I am of pre-retirement age (never mind I have nowhere near the $$ needed to retire) ... and have to gear my interviews accordingly (yes, I took years off my resume--the result is technologically up to date, but nothing was done about level of responsibility ... even in slightly larger firms, I'd been hired in and never given many of the tasks laid out for me as MY purported responsibility, in the interview - this in particular: a job I'd held for well over 6 months!)

At the margins, we still DO want to get the job.
