Ugh! I certainly hope it doesn't come down to moving... It is outrageous, the positions banks are putting more & more people into...!

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!

I was laid off and unemployed several times over a period of about 18 months. I took event work (averaged 4 hours weekly) but it was pay. I then got part-time but not enough to make ends meet and they've since cut my hours and constantly threaten to fire me for discrimatory reasons (on their part) or to eliminate the position. My house will be auctioned the first week in February and with needed repairs I may not be able to stay there past that. Not a fun time to move.

I have been laid off for 4 months now. I have an interview tomorrow. I am really excited about this job. It's one of those companies that really makes a difference in people's lives and I'd love to work with them. Please pray. I'm just so excited to have gotten an interview!!

Praise God for hope!

Thanks! Now to remember my yahoo id and pw. :(

Being unemployed at ANT age can be so tough, but I think ESPECIALLY so for folks with a few years under their belt!

Freecycle can be a super resource...I'm amazed over the generosity of some of our local folks!

Yeah, that discrimination thing comes into play no matter what employers say or what laws they are suppose to abide by.

Lithium-Have you tried to post a "Wanted" through Freecycle? I use them all the time for things to "offer" or "Want". You might try that or try the used games at the game stores. I've gotten several for my son that way too.

My husband and I are hearing the same thing. Recruiters have told us to dye our hair to hide the gray because of the age discrimination too.

I hope your Christmas wishes come true!

This is my husbands 2nd go around with unemployment. The first was about 5 years ago and he would have plenty of interviews with all the same answers. They ALL said (like kelli9001) that he was overqualified/previous income too much and wouldn't hire him afraid he'd be looking for something with more pay.

That's ridiculous! I think many people are in that boat. Happy to take a job getting benefits for their families and a chance to work again. Good people are passed over because they had the fortune of having a good job previously.

He's considering going back to school for a tech trade.

I keep the true meaning of Christmas in my heart, but I still want presents for my child. Right now I may be able to make a purchase 2 weeks before Christmas with how bills are due.

Sometimes I don't think people know just how blessed they are. I would just like to have a present bought so I could be calm knowing it's done. She's getting one present -guitar hero *****and that's only if I can find it for Wii by the time I can buy it.

She only has the game that came with the machine, and that she bought last year with her own money. Anyhow....Everyone keep your heads high and I wish all a great holiday season!!

I have been unemployed 8 months now. It's very discouraging. Luckily, I still get unemployment for a little while...but after that, I will have to dip into savings. emoticon

How does unemployment work while in school? Is it one of the programs that paid by the state?

I hear you. I'm ready to go back to school, become a teacher and work for half of what I was making.

I was officially laid off Nov 07 then took a contract job from Dec 07-Aug 08 at half the pay. Since Aug 08 there's not been much hope. The interviews I do have are for much less money (which I wouldn't mind in order to just start working again) However, most people say I'm way over qualified and are afraid I will leave as soon as I find something else. Hello, just let me work and treat me like a human being and I will make your company money and save your company even more than you are paying me, that's what I'm good at! BUT at least give me that chance.

Sorry, some slight venting there.

Everything happens for a reason!

Wow. That's hard. They say it will get better in January. I'm sure hoping so. It's been 3 months for me so far, going on four. So far not many nibbles on my resume.

I guess I'll pray harder! ;)

17 months for me and 6 years for my husband - most of that spent in school for him, since jobs have been so scarce.

My husband just came up to a year. He still gets unemployment (thank god!) and it is a decent amount, but still no work.

Sure if it comes down to it he'll work at McDonald's or grave yard if he has to, but right now were looking for a "real" job and so far none.
