Speaking of libraries:

This tip is from Kim Komando www.komando.com :

"A PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR E-BOOKS
Holly in Bear, DE, watches me broadcast the show live on TVKim.com with her Kim's Club subscription. She has an iPad, but still goes to the library to check out books. After all, she'd rather borrow a book than buy an e-book. But she would like to know if there's a subscription service that will let her rent e-books.

Actually, there are a few places on the Web that do just that. I should probably start out with some more good news though: Many e-books are free.

There are tons of legitimate places out there to get free e-books. I've actually spotlighted a few of them before. Click here to discover a few places to get free e-books: www.komando.com/columns/index.aspx?i
d=
8820

One particularly cool site for free e-books is the World Public Library www.komando.com/coolsites/index.aspx
?i
d=9751
. This site works a lot like a typical brick-and-mortar public library. You go to the site and search for a book. If you like it you can download it for free. All of the free books are in a basic HTML format. Keep reading to find out why that matters.

You can also choose to pay nine dollars a year for membership access. Members get access to more than 500,000 titles. Members also get e-books in PDF formats. This allows for special features like font size adjustment, digital dictionaries and text-to-speech (if available).

With your iPad, Holly, you could go directly to World Public Library using Safari. Then download the PDF e-book that you want to read. If you use the iBooks app you can store the e-book in your iBooks library."

Enjoy!

Libraries are such a GOLD MINE, aren't they?

I'm so impressed by the selection not only of books, but music CD's, audiobooks and DVDs!

Great Tip!

I check out motivational audio books (CDs) from the library, and other subjects too. I feel like I have something new without spending funds I don't have. I feel fortunate we have great libraries!

I re-use plastic ziploc bags. I rinse them out and dry them in my dish drainer. And I stopped going to the ATM. I use whatever change I have to try to stretch it until the next payday.

I talked to my doctor and he changed one of my prescriptions that had a $50 copay to a $5 generic. The cost of COBRA is killing us, but we can't be without it. I also talked to a pharmacist and got a 100 pills for $8 vs $10 for the 90 day generic they advertise.

Remember, nobody can go back to the very beginning and make a brand new start, but anyone can start here and make a brand new end.

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results."

We have started hanging out our clothes on indoor drying racks outside also. We have an antique one that holds up to 2 loads of wash. Anxious to see what difference the electric bill will be.

Another one from Kim Komando:

Cut your prescription costs

www.medtipster.com/search.php

Many people have made budget cuts lately; the economy demands it. Giving up little luxuries to which we've become accustomed can be difficult.

But some things cannot be cut. For example, you don't want to stop taking your prescription drugs.

That doesn't mean you can't save on your drugs. And I have just the site that will help you!

Medtipster will help you compare prices on prescription drugs in your area. It will also help you find suitable generics and alternative therapies. You'll need to talk to your doctor about these, of course.

The comparison tool is enough to qualify Medtipster as a Cool Site. But it does so much more than that.
It will also help you find mini clinics, immunizations and health screenings!

Ditto on re-using plastic bags...although not ALWAYS, but those which haven't had too much of a mess in them...lol!

We hang out most of our clothes (on indoor drying racks) rather than run the dryer very much. I might tumble some of the better clothes a bit to get wrinkles out but then I hang them up to finish drying.

I re-use gallon plastic bags. I rinse them and dry them out in the dish drainer. I also save brown lunch bags, and re-use them a few times over. When I get loose change, I store it in one container, and when it fills up, I go cash it in.

Great idea, Don.

Planning my meals and and making out grocery lists - buying only what is on the list and buying store brands.

Cut out the land-line phone.

Shopping for clothes at resale shops.

Bought a Foodsaver to keep leftovers longer and buy in bulk, putting up food in smaller packets.

Attend food auctions for canned and dried goods when possible.

What are yours?
