I sprung from bed itching to do yoga (at home, via podcast) and also to free write in my journal (a daily habit). I also had an itch to finish a job application. :)

I am motivated by the New Year coming! This year stunk with becoming unemployed and not finding anything. But I am hopeful this year I will find something! My biggest motivator is my son, I want him to experience a lot in his young life and sometimes you need money to do so!

the fact that I got temp work right after I got let go - and a part time job within a month along with opportunities that may increase my income to a liveable wage. I'm also motivated by good friends, renewed friendships, being encouraged by friends and family.

I may not have the income I need (I didn't have that with the job I just got let go from anyway and I have a little more income now) but I have a lot going for me. The future is bright and the news reports say the recession is over so we should all be seeing some progress in our job search!

I am motivated to become gainfully employed. The discouragement of looking is trying to wear down my motivation, however.

I might be self-employed with too light a client load, but today I am motivated by the fact that it's Friday! I have several things I need to get done today before everything closes up for the holiday weekend. Knowing I have limited hours left in the week is pushing me to get some stuff done - which means I also worked out hard and fast to get it done!

Had to really fight to stay on the census job due to some snafus in their hiring - mine isn't the problem but they did get someone with no legal ID - long story. Hopefully, they worked it out after yesterday. I did work some hours today. It's been a good way to network. I am getting some tips on places to search - that's what's motivating me.

Yeah Veman! Small job is better than no job!

Several things motivated me this week. One guy guessed my weight - pretty close! - and I was glad I'm under 200 for the first time in YEARS!! I'll soon be below 180 and that's a great feeling!

I've been getting a lot of job tips - nothing positive yet, though. When I actually start a job, that's positive - not a false lead!

Then, I went to a Goodwill Fashion show and got a couple tips. Talked to a realtor who verified the offer on my house - she raised the subject. One of the male models hit on me. I went to a couple thrift stores and one of the guys who works there hit on me. Funny. That one actually offered to help me work off the rest of the weight. He "has a way." Yep, I'm sure. lol

The packing and weeding is going fairly well. I have a deadline so I'm just concentrating on that for the next week or 2 - postponing the job hunt. I'll follow through on the tips but tell them I can't start for another 2 weeks or so. Some tell you that's out but I can't really handle that stress - new job and more hours along with trying to move.

My son went to Army boot camp on March 9th. At first he freaked out and wanted to come home. Then he got to his platoon and Drill Sargent and began to love it. Now he's thriving. He's doing things harder than he's ever done before. That motivated me a lot. I decided to step up and get serious. He can't stop when he gets tired or sore. It has really changed me and my workouts and that in turn is changing my endurance level. More endurance is motivating me to work out harder and longer. Now I actually look forward to my workouts and I work out twice a day... at much greater intensity. So my son is motivating me. While the job search is dismal and depressing, at least I'm succeeding in this other area of my life where I do have control.

Today, it's actually taking my car in for repairs tomorrow.

The upcoming move is making me a little anxious but things are coming along pretty well.

I did get a call from the Census for part-time work starting at the end of the month. BTN. Better hourly pay than the current part-time job and I should be able to work around these hours.

Job searching can bring a lot of "bummers". New eating and exercise patterns can also bring some flu-like symptoms as your body adjusts but then you start feeling REALLY healthy! Glad to hear you're feeling better!

I hate to say it's being able to move fairly freely. I might have days when I'm sore but I can always get up. I like being able to clean and get rid of clothing that's too large. I liked buying a new pair of hiking boots for walking today. I had soup for lunch and it was soooo good! Cheap lunch.

My walk motivated me! One of my friends told me "You went 4 miles, you better turn back!" I was ok and ready to head back anyway. I checked it on Mapquest and it wasn't quite 4. I walked about 6 miles in 90 minutes today without effort so that felt good.

My car is fixed so that helps with jobhunting.

It's 41 degrees here! I have a 2nd interview tomorrow for a job with morning hours and the existing part-time job is afternoon so I could work both and have some $$$!!! Keeping my fingers crossed!

I ran into an old college friend who offered to be a job reference today which will probably help a lot.

I have both partials done so my teeth at least look like they are all there!

I looked at an apartment yesterday and although small, it would be affordable on the part-time job. It goes through the county so the foreclosure won't matter.

I got an offer on my house.

LOTS of motivation today!

I went to the dentist today and the series of visits is almost over!!!

I have had more pain lately which is a deterrent for some employers. I picked up some gluclosamine to see if the week actually helps (it's supposed to show results within a week and I thought the $12 was worth the risk!)

I've been getting some leads for jobs which helps. Today someone stopped and said once their receptionist retires I could take over - in 18 months! Well, it's better than nothing and it's government pay but I hope to find something before that.

I took my time and researched a "help site" over the weekend and found them in serious trouble with many of their clients for failure to perform. Most if not all recruiters are paid by the company. So, anytime there is a fee for services, the little bells should be ringing very loud.

Today it was having too much time to kill between the dentist and work. I did get a walk in. I will go to the oral surgeon on Monday to have a tooth removed, to the dentist on Tuesday to get my bottom partial and then the top partial will get fixed. I'm so glad this is going so fast.

I heard from one of the realtors yesterday and, despite the sheriff's foreclosure sale, I should come out ahead - about as well as I would with having just sold it beforehand.

Still waiting to hear on the jobs but I may look for another one to apply on today. I talked to a friend who needs help with her husband and it would be income - work I can do.

It's not so bad.

Good luck Kelli - and thanks for the quote!

Thanks for the support, Don - that helps with motivation! It went ok. It was for a job at the jail with one of their vendors and they wait until the end of the month for a decision. I knew some of the deputies and they came out to say hello so I'm hoping that helps. They were talking about another job as well so maybe something will come out of it. One of the deputies asked me out.

I also go to the dentist tomorrow to have my partial plate fitted. Then I have to go to the oral surgeon and have the upper one fixed (added teeth). The mold impression is the worst for me and that's over.

I am motivated by having the interview tomorrow. I called on another ap yesterday - it was the last day they were accepting resumes and I wanted to make sure they had received mine. I told the guy I really wanted that job and he said "You are the forerunner so far." WOW! They won't schedule interviews until at least next week but that does sound promising! The money is good and closer to home as well as busable.

I GOT CALLED FOR AN INTERVIEW TODAY!!!! It is working with law enforcement and they have already done the background check! It was a great boost!

I also went to the dentist this morning. I took some sinus meds to help me breathe better during the visit (I'm a mouth breather normally) and they worked but they did make me tired. It's probably going to be 4 visits total - including the one with the oral surgeon but for me, the worst part is over.

THEN, I went home and the DAV came for their pickup. I know the driver and he asked about places to eat around there. I heard later that he had actually called after to tell them I was right about them having a good cook! I haven't been there but knew the cook was good from another place.

Why am I having such a hard time finding a job with all these connections?! I think men only hire men!

And it worked! I applied for 2 jobs this morning as well as printed out new resumes. I had planned to send one to a friend who said he might have something - and still might. One ap from this morning - for the job I would prefer of the 2 - has already had bites! I heard from someone on the bus after I left and someone downtown said they have already started the background check!
My brother called last night and hopefully the car will be fixed in the next couple days.
Maybe determination and positive thinking really help - or else going to church and praying for a job this morning helped.

I'm actually motivated by NOT having a car. I'm turning it into a positive thing. I want to be on the bus EARLY as opposed to the dial-a-ride. If I have HOURS to kill, I will HAVE to spend some time looking for work! It does cost me extra when the car is not running (extra money with the dial-a-ride plus the cab home when there's no bus service). I work part-time and this results in spending over 1/2 my income just commuting to and from work. Getting on a scheduled ride 5 to 6 hours before work forces me to continue to the Work Force Center where I can jobhunt. It also saves me over $1.50 per day. Not a lot unless your money is as tight as mine!

I've had some really positive support from friends and customers today. I only have part-time and REALLY need more (making less than my monthly bills right now) but people were really supportive today. And, I would probably be suicidal if not for my youngest brother who has been a listening post, driver, everything he can to help out. Also, success with the diet and packing to move.

Thanks Don! It was the best. I stayed the night there partly because of the snow. I came home and the neighbor told me he would do my driveway (we got quite a bit of snow). He also brought me some good news and love from some old, much missed friends in Colorado. That made up for a lot of things that happened lately. I miss the way I was treated out there - there was more respect and more affection, like people were happier. We're supposed to be Minnesota nice here but there's a lot of discrimination against women - like we're going back in time instead of advancing.

1) anger at threats and harrasments on this petty job where I make less than 1/2 of my wages in 1989
2) being able to go to my brother's for Christmas and enjoy the company of his family. He has 2 toddlers who are always fun to watch and talk to

Changing my goal really motivated me today. It was like I had a new lease on life. Instead of having 70# as my goal, I made it 11 pounds, which will drop me into a new "decade" and a new clothing size. When I could look at a goal that was short term, it really stoked my motivation. When I achieve that goal, I'll set a new one to lose the next 10 pounds.

I am getting ready to go to the gym for a stimulating workout. Then I am going to pick my grand-daughter up at 11:30 after kindergarten and we are going to go to the pool. Then this evening it will be dancing the night away. I have been laid off of work now for a year and 1/2. My days get so filled up that I am not sure when I would be able to fit a job into them. LOL Everyone make it a marvelous day!

Some great tips here by a well-respected psychologist, Judith Beck:

Motivate to Lose: 4 Tips for Sticking to Your Diet

diet.health.com/2009/02/12/4-tips-fo
r-
sticking-to-your-diet/

Judith S. Beck, PhD, our Feel Great Weight motivation guru is director of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research; associate professor in psychology and psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania; author of The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person.

Look at the small picture. Concentrate on just losing 5 pounds at a time. When you lose the first 5, celebrate, then decide if it’s reasonable to lose another 5, and so on. Focusing on a big number can be overwhelming; in bite-size chunks, it will seem more manageable.

Sack sabotaging thoughts. “It’s OK to eat this because I’m celebrating.” “I don’t have time to work out.” Sound familiar? These kind of thoughts can derail your best efforts. When you catch yourself making self-defeating excuses, shoot them down by saying, “If I want to be healthier, thinner, and more energetic, I have to follow my diet-and-exercise plan.”

Ditch that all-or-nothing mentality. Instead of scrapping your program when things get hectic, “Look over your upcoming week and plan how to fit everything in,” Beck says. And remember, five minutes of exercise is better than none.

Plan for curveballs. You’ll be stuck at work late one day and won’t have time to sear fresh fish and steam veggies. “Keep a stash of healthy convenience food so you can grab a protein bar or heat up a low-calorie frozen dinner for busy times,” Beck says.

Since returning from San Diego and the Spark Your Life Convention I have been psyched by the uplifting POWER of our wonderful SparkPeople community and the inspiring talks and presentations of EVERYONE at the convention...most especially our fellow SparkPeople members on the panel sharing the *secrets* of their success!

Additionally, I've been moved by reconnecting with my sister and my travels out her back yard up Mount Fortuna (how FORTUNATE am I! :-) ) as a metaphor for celebrating my accomplishments.

Everyone keep paying our blessings forward!

First of all, I want to welcome all the new members joining our Team recently! It's wonderful to have new folks adding their *spice* to our mix here!

Each day we all have choices and we can take steps toward our passions...or not! Often when one has either lost a job or is struggling to find a job it can become very easy to feel rudder-less and floundering.

But this may be just the time to focus on what TRULY drives or motivates us! Regardless of whether we have work or a career available to ourselves we ALL have things (people, places, activities, weather, goals) which inspire and motivate us.

I'm starting this thread so that we can share with others what is it that has lit a FIRE under you today? What PASSION are you pursuing?

What motivates you TODAY?

Don
