I have an interview today at 2:00! It is a little bit of a strange situation. A representative from AFLAC insurance saw my resume on Career Builder and wanted to interview me today for an account manager job. The thing is- is that I am a Cad Drafter and I wasn't looking for a job as an account manager. She couldn't give me any details about the job until the interview.
I am a little suspicious, but also don't want to miss an opportunity either. Any suggestions?

You know I meant "hear", right? Hate it when I miss something like that before hitting "post message".

So sorry to here you got scammed.

My background is online marketing and I've seen scams of all kinds. If you see an "opportunity" you are considering spending money on, some good sites to check are www.ripoffreport.com and www.friendsinbusiness.com . Ripoff report is excellent and is the number one place people go to report scams, etc. Friends in Business has a lot of good advice and I've found the owner of the site to be trustworthy to this point.

Another thing to do, if you see an "opportunity" is Google "company name S*cks" Or "company name ripoff". (you know to replace the asterisks with a "u", right?!). By the time reports get filed and investigated with the BBB it's usually too late. You can also go to ftc.gov and look up a company name to see if they've been reported. A company that is supposedly incorporated should also be listed on the Secretary of State corporate name database for whatever state they supposedly have their HQ in.

The golden rule: If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

Sorry for the long post, but I have seen so many people ripped off. One company I followed had nine separate entities and scammed over $31 million dollars from consumers. The ring leader is in jail for another two years or so, but everyone else got off with no jail time and no money was ever returned to the consumers.

Oh, I forgot to add.

I had a recruiter call me and offer me a "too good to be true" kind of job in another city. He really had me believing it for awhile then said that with all my experience I probably know a lot of techs (I was in management)and was pumping me for names and phone numbers for them. That's when I became suspicious and didn't give him that information. You know, he never did get back to me regarding the dream job.

The Postal Kit is a total scam. The Post Office periodically offers the exam and it is at no cost. There is no advantage to buying the kit and right now, the USPS is laying off too not hiring.

I bought the postal test kit myself. I wish I was healthy enough to consider that kind of employment.

Sorry that it has taken me this long to get back to everyone! I have been working out tons and serving - starting to train at a second place tonight.

Well everything that Emma said was true. I sent money in to take a Postal exam so i could make between $32-56 an hour. It sounded awesome... after I received the test, I started to study and I went online to find out my test date... there was NOTHING available. I called the testing place and they told me that I would just have to wait till one opens. I finally did some digging around the USPS website and found out this was indeed a scam!!! I sent a letter and all of my testing stuff back and was supposed to receive a full refund of $129.00 but only received $117. I am not even going to bother with them but just look out for jobs like this.

Also I think I already said that I was going to an interview but regardless - I went to one last week at a law firm to be part of the support staff in the receptionists office. I actually did the second interview while I was there for the first one. :) which is good! I was supposed to hear back this Monday - yet have not heard a thing. My friend works there and said they are having issues with some software conversion that started yesterday. She thinks that I should hear back no later than tomorrow afternoon... I sure hope so! They wanted me to be able to start on this upcoming Monday!!! :D

Fingers are crossed!!!

If they tell you you can make 40K a year with no experience... Scam.

If they ask you to send money to get job leads. Mostly it's a scam.

If you go for an interview and it's an orientation, it's a scam.

Do tell more!

How did you find out these were scams...?

After the fact were there things you believe should have tipped you off to the fact that they were scams...?

Your experience sounds like it would be invaluable to others!

Speaking of interviews... the latest ones I have had have turned out to be scams! Please be aware of certain things that at first seem like a great job but there are small little cracks within their answers.

Good luck everyone!

I think he was looking for skills that I totally don't have and I am not interested in lying about it. It's not so interesting to me. I get the impression that the recruiter was a bit clueless about what they really wanted. They are having difficulty finding someone exactly matching but apparently the client is willing to wait for perfect, the recruiter did not know that.

I looked on the web for job leads and was able to send in 4 applications today.. At least they are posting jobs again. That's a good sign.

Good luck with your interview!

The best interview advice I ever recieved was, when the interviewer asks if you have any questions, I will ask if there was anything on my resume or anything that I have said that concerns them that I can clarify further.

Certainly understand the nervousness! Wishing you the very BEST of results tho!

During the weekend I would spend time doing things that really rev / excite you and gives you the feeling that you are running on ALL cylinders.

Also I would suggest, if you haven't already done so, boning up on all of your strengths, positive qualities, attributes, accomplishments. Practice blowing your horn with others and get some feedback so you can fine tune your approach.

So many folks have such difficulty pumping themselves up...either due to insecurities or being taught not to *boast!* But this is a time to do just that!

Let us know how you make out! We're all behind you and know that you will give it your very best!
