Great point AIMLESS07!! By no means does not having children mean you have to hate children. It's just a personal choice to not have them. And being happy with your lifestyle as it is is something to celebrate, not be criticized over (like in the blog's comments). How many people do we know who are miserable because they have children because it was "expected" of them? Egads, what a thing to do to a kid! Kudos to you for being there for your students and supporting them in their different areas of interest!! The parents are indeed blessed to have you!

Nice blog. I find it quite upsetting if people say that not having children is selfish. I don't want children b/c I like my lifestyle right now. My husband and I live in a nice home, have two dogs who are my companions when my husband isn't home, and we are able to travel and do what we want.
I teach 500 other people's children everyday at my school. In some ways being a teacher has made me cynical in some people's abilities to be good and repsonsible parents. On the otherhand, I have some fantastic families who totally support me and what I do. Without children, I can go and watch my students sporting events on weekends if I want. They are always thrilled to see me there.
Very interesting blog. No one should have to feel on the defensive for making a personal choice not to have kids, but sadly, "there's something wrong with you" if you make that choice. In my own dealings with people, I notice the ones who are most distressed about my not having kids are the ones who had kids without it being "planned" or felt they were doing their duty and are fabulous human beings for having procreated...even though they don't particularly enjoy being a parent. Those are the ones that crack me up the most....complain all day long about your own children, then try to demand why you wouldn't want any. Gotta love the human mind sometimes, eh?
