I prefer my house, rather than going anywhere. Less stress and all for me. Even with a full house.

Update: My daughter has invited me and her brother + his wife to her apartment for Christmas potluck brunch and then movies. No answer yet from my son and his wife. Keeping fingers crossed.

No tree. She posted she does have a pine branch in some water. emoticon I'll bring a couple ornaments and a 10 light string to dress it up. Even if it is just the two of us I am going to enjoy being with a family member on Christmas.

I would love to be far far away from home at Christmas. But alas, I will be up at mys sisters house with the family.
Had a much better holiday the couple of years I spent away from home with friends.

Home, kids are becoming adults and we will enjoy at least a couple of more years having Christmas at home. Once they start families, who knows we can always rotate.

Still working out the particulars for Christmas this year. Maybe here in wet Santa Barbara or at my in-laws in the Bay Area. After missing hubby over Thanksgiving, I vowed I'd be with him wherever at Christmas.

Both our girls are grown and the oldest lives in TX with her family. Since she's too pregnant to fly, they will stay there for the holidays.

Family is very important to both hubby and me, and we are very close to our families. I would spend every holiday with my family, but that's not fair to hubby. So we rotate now...we've tried hitting both families over a long weekend, but it's exhausting...5 hours to the Bay Area for 1.5 days, then 2-3 hours to Tuolumne for 1.5 days and then 6 hours home. Not enough time to really relax and visit.

Blessings,
Becca

We'll be together at our house now that we've got the biggest place. Christmas is a big deal with our family and dh's birthday is Christmas Eve, so the kids never want to go too far away and miss his birthday. Out of the 7 kids, three are married and only one has in-laws nearby, so we always have at least some time together.

I'm very sorry for those of you who have family who'd prefer to be elsewhere on the holidays. On the other hand, I've often wished we had started some outreach traditions earlier in our marriage and raising our kids. We always buy an extra turkey or ham to deliver to the Rescue Mission at holiday time, but haven't had anyone in during our family festivities. I'd like to think that we would do that if none of our kids were joining us.

Whatever else Thanksgiving and Christmas might mean--it must surely mean SHARING, right? God bless you who are making someone else's holiday for them--folks who wouldn't have any kind of celebration without you. I think that's beyond wonderful!

We're on a rotation: one year with my boyfriend's family, one year with my family, one year home for just the two of us. I'd prefer to stay home, but with our families so far away (my family is on the East Coast, his is overseas), we're not going to get that lucky.

Last year was our year off, the year before was with his family. So this year is the year visiting my year, leaving bright and early Monday morning. My mother called me today to let me know that she's got a foot of snow on the ground. Brrrrr!

9 years ago I moved 3500 miles away from my family - now we get along great! ;-)

I stay in my N.Cal house on my own, sometimes with friends and that suits me just fine. I collect friends with no where else to go and cook for them. Takes the pressure off of shopping, spending and all that materialistic stuff...

I go visit my folks in the summer when there's no snow...!

Well,
I'm actually off work both Christmas Eve and Christmas which hardly ever happens so I'm going to try and cook a lot of nice things for a change. But I've designated the deviled eggs to my daughter again. I am soooooooooooooooo tired of making deviled eggs! LOL!

I think it will be a different kind of Christmas this year cause my youngest daughter won't be here and then my son and his wife are seperated right now so even though I'm sure he'll bring her, I'm not sure how it will be. I so wish they would get there sh*t together.

My mom lives with me and she's dying so I'm sure company won't stay to long cause she gets mean and hateful sometimes. One good thing is that she can go in her room and close the door if the grandbabies get too loud. I hope you guys all have a nice holiday!

We usually alternate traveling to Phoenix or Albuquerque for the holidays to be in the in-laws and staying home to be with my mom and brother, but since my FIL two years ago and I have two DDs that continue gymnastics practice during the holidays, we've been staying home. My mom and brother live just a block away so we always plan to spend either Xmas eve or Xmas together. Usually they come over Xmas morning to watch the girls open presents.

Gypsyheart,
Do not feel alone. We went out to eat Thanksgiving with a couple who's kids forgot to bother with them. My kids all spent Thanksgiving elsewhere. My son's wife has volunteered to cook here at my house, bless her heart. I have 4 kids and not one has been to see me since I lost the sight in my eye due to a botched cataract operation. That said, my happiness does not depend on if they come or not. emoticon

I just posted to my two children asking as to what their plans are.

Christmas' for the past several years have been very sad for me. Their Holiday priorities do not include Mom. Friends, my daughter's boyfriends at the time, my son's first wife and then his new girlfriend (now 2nd wife) have been more important to be with on Christmas than Mom. I have not been invited to join them on the actual holiday. We have met at restaurants to have a holiday lunch or dinner and exchange presents either a few days before Christmas or as late mid February, when schedules can mesh. (Yes, exchanging presents in February!)

I've learned that on Christmas in Bakersfield there are only two places to eat that are opened on Christmas: Denny's and Baker's Square. (Yes, I've driven up and down every main street in this city looking for someplace to have a Christmas dinner.) Thanksgiving has not been any better...up until this year, when I was invited to my Daughter-in-Law's aunts for dinner in the Diamond Bar area. (long drive) This was the first Thanksgiving Day spent with both of my children in 8 years.

In the past I've fixed entire Thanksgiving Dinners for myself, and have been joined by homeless people: one year a homeless woman and her 3 dogs. She came over and we cooked together. She had so much fun cooking. She also took a long hot bath and felt like a new woman. Another year it was a homeless man, who I had working on my house near Lake Isabella.

Last year friends in San Diego(very long drive) had me over for Christmas Eve dinner (great roast beef). I then spent the night at friends in Huntington Beach and Christmas day with their extended family. It was really nice... but could not take away the pain of being ignored by my own children.

This year, for the first year in many, my daughter does not have a boyfriend. She may even consider spending time with 'ol Mom, since there may be nothing better for her to do.

Sorry for this long downer of a post. Bright note: I've put up my 10' tall tree, and lots of decorations around my living room for the first time in 3 years. I'm not finished, but it's looking beautiful.

Dinner at Denny's this year? NOT! If I don't go down to my friends in HB I'll stick to my Atkins diet.

Hope everyone realizes the importance of family during the Holidays.

Blessed Christmas to everyone.

We're staying home this year but with the recent snow storms here in California we'll be heading up to ski and snowboard for a few days during the holidays. I can usually do well during this time since we spend hours skiing and I take our food to our cabin so no need to eat out.

Most of my kids are living in another state, so I don't usually get to spend Christmas with them. The rest of us usually gather at Grammas house for Christmas dinner and then I like to spend the rest of the holiday at our little place on the coast.

I much rather stay home for Christmas! Last year we went to the Philippines for Christmas since my husband has not been back there in 37 years. We were able to take both of the boys after working around their school schedule. We usually go to my mom's for Thanksgiving and stay at our home for Christmas. Last Christmas was a very special one~never to forget!

We'll be home this year. Christmas will be just me and the kids. My husband is an airline pilot, so he'll be working 6 days, straight through Christmas. We're still trying to figure out when we're going to open presents with the kids.

The kids and I will be going next door for Christmas Eve dinner with our neighbors which will be really nice. They're great people.

I am not leaving town for the holidays. I have a house/pet sitting job over the holidays and serve meals to the homeless on Christmas Day.

I will be within 30 minutes from home. Going to my brother's for Christmas Eve. Otherwise will be home. I do like it that way. Happy holidays to everyone. Stay safe.

I'll start this topic for those that are anxious to get going with some threads. No need to wait for a leader. If you have a question or topic you want to discuss, jump right in and create a thread.

I'll be home for the Holidays. It's where I like to be. Maybe get to the coast for a rest after..
