Pernharper and Skrebel - I play a Live Action Role Playing (LARP for short) game called The Isles. It's similar to the SCA, but not as strict on the costuming requirements and such.

I am just entering my 7th year of this type of LARP, and I love it so much! Our campaign is somewhat like the tv show and movie Stargate, in that there is a "gate" system that brought all these people from different places together to make a new life on the frontier. You can be anything you think of as long as you can costume it! For instance, my character is a courtier from a royal court who wanted to see how the other half lives. She is now in a frontier town with a bunch of cowboys, some people with cybernetics, and even a bunch of talking animals! I have friends who made squirrel, tiger and kangaroo outfits. It's amazing what people come up with.

These weekends are a vacation from the reality of jobs and great stress relief. Heck, you could say we take a vacation from ourselves! It's only 4 times a year, but it really is a great workout and alot of fun!

1000/680/320 - 30 minutes of strength training yesterday even though I was sore from the weekend. I concentrated on upper body since it's my left knee that is still twinging.

Hey all! Just letting you know that I am indeed alive and still moving! It's been an incredibly busy month for me, with back to back weekends spent away from home. All in all though I have managed to get in fitness minutes. For instance this weekend was a mock sword combat weekend for me (swords, polearms and the like are made from kite spar and pipe foam covered in duct tape so that when you strike your opponent you are not physically hurting them), which had me doing 120 minutes of fencing in one day out of the 3 day weekend!! My legs are sore from the fighting stances, and from the uneven terrain (this takes place in the woods and in fields at a converted horse farm), but I can't wait to do it again next month! The running and hiking and all the hills at the site really make you use those muscles! The most difficult spot on the site for me to fight is a hil that is covered with gravel. It makes the footing very difficult so you are using even more muscle to maintain an upright position.

So for me with this challenge, I am at:
1000/650/350

Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrows keep you Human,
Failures keep you Humble,
Success keeps you Glowing,

Yestango glad that the moussaka was both tasty and alot quicker than you thought it would be!
Pernaharper-those are the months that kill me too-the cabin sounds wonderful and if you take a walk while you are there you will be able to get in some minutes, relax and enjoy yourself and do not beat yourself up-it is just a month and you can always get back on track with your workouts as well as your nutrition -that is what I always tell myself LOL!!

60 minute NIA class, 20 rowing, 50 weight training I may do a water aerobics class later tonight but if I do get there I will post it tomorrow

So far today I've gotten 10 minutes of strength training in. Tonight will be cardio. If I have to pick up the tv and move it to my bedroom just so I can get my boot camp workout done, then I will!!!!

pernharper you will do your best next week. even if it's a bit of walking with family and friends.
healthy eating will be tough but you do what you can do, then just bounce back. That's a way of life with us, we just have to bounce back into healthy eating and exercise. Just keep logging back on when you can, just to keep motivated.

30 minutes walking/stairs in the building

1250/30/1220

hang in there pernharper - and gravitate toward the vegy platters and soda water with a twist of lime. then when it is time to eat more substantially you will be pretty full and choose lean protein, save a tiny space for a taste of one of the desserts.
I love pretending to be drinking booze, all the while sipping seltzer. feels great at the end of the night.

I've been a slacker, exercise-wise. But I will take my 2.5 hours of vigorous house cleaning and use 90 minutes. hope no one thinks badly of me...
the moussaka came out great! but it did take just 2 hours, not 4 hours. recipe in the Joy of Cooking. I did use half lamb, half beef, and removed a full cup of fat from the ground meat before adding sauce ingredients, I probably could have taken another 2 full cups of Greece, I mean grease out hahaha it IS rich folks...no joking... but everyone loved it especially my son and husband. we had 17 people over. whew. exhausted but super happy too.

I WILL get to the gym this week... Friday I go to DC for five days for work but will workout every day, at the very least some solid walking..

1340/90/1250

thanks for listening! this is fun.

I was such a slacker this weekend. No exercise at all. This week is going to be a busy one too, as we are driving to NC on Thursday which means a full day in the car with no exercise :-(

Today 30 minutes strength training. Hoping to get the cardio in tonight too.

60 minute walk and 15 min abs and stretch out

1415/75/1340

14 for dinner tomorrow but mostly folks are bringing things - I am making moussaka...ok yeah I hear you you all ... but I am going to use milk not cream, and sauté-to-defat all of the ground lamb before mixing it into the other ingredients. if I cannot find good ground lamb I will use the 95% lean ground beef. I am pretty psyched because I have never made it before and love it and haven't even eaten it for about 2 decades. (its got a lot of eggplant, which will now make everyone smile... ) its a 4 hour (at least) prep time.

yestango-that group groove sounds interesting-I have never heard of it before-LOVE zumba so I am sure it is fun!!!
Pernharper-enjoy your holiday and your time with your DS!!! I keep my calories on down days around 600 and it is pretty amazing what you can eat for that small amount of calories-today was an egg mugg for breakfast 100 calories, lunch a salmon sandwich on a Josephs pita 160 calories and supper will be tilapia with a salad and veggies for about 200 calories Now the up day is pretty darn wonderful because I can enjoy pretty much anything I would like. I know it will not work for everyone but it is working for me-or course I don 't have kids at home anymore that i have to cook for and DH will eat anything not nailed down LOL!!
Diane-I agree we all are seeking the same thing just doing the method that works best for each of us, but I do belive that exercise is a major key to living a healthy life and I am determined to be in better shape in my 60's than I was in my 40's!!

South Kingstown here by URI-I too am losing the same 15 pounds over and over again and am determined to drop some of this once and for all. I just can not seem to break into the 160's I get close and than just stick there and bounce back up. I am following the JUDDD plan right now and doing well on it and feel like it is something that I can continue with for a lifetime which is what this is all about!! I am going to get into the 160's in the next month and have made it a goal!!!

No exercise to speak of yesterday. We were supposed to go bowling last night as part of a going away party for a coworker, but never managed to get out of the bar! I was very good though and didn't use the party as an excuse to go over my limit.

So far today I have completed my modified push ups.

pernharper - I feel you...

my husband worked 4 hours in the garden. we both bemoaned that the soreness that accompanies hard workout the next day now has a friend - "Old age" soreness, achy-ness. oh well - at least we are both cranking it up a notch.
double soreness comes with the territory ...
I love the groove class (former pro dancer) even tho anyone might be inclined to say, "who is that completely nutty 50-something throwing her hair around.??" yeah that would be me.

today 40 minute walk + stretch

1455/40/1415

FYI - Ive been yo-yoing since my twins were born between 134 lbs and 178 lbs. four swings to the bottom in 20 years. would like to land and then stay at the bottom finally as I hit my sixties in 4 years from now. that is STILL 20 lbs more than my dancer-weight. but reasonable for me.

I have been lucky that I have a buddy at the gym who keeps me on track, who works out with me all the time. I have been really focused with this journey I'm on to get healthy and fit.
I've managed to keep the weight off, not losing much but am happy with the progress I have made this past 4 years I have been on sparkpeople. I have lost a total of 23 pounds. It's just that I know the weight can creep back on in no time.

Yesterday was a combination of yard work and heavy cleaning of the garage and three season porch for an hour. I will update later with today's adventures!

Welcome back, waysofgrace & welcome yestango! Sure, include any exercise minutes! I figure if you feel your heart pumping or feel you're utilizing muscles you don't ordinarily, then it's the equivalent of doing formal exercises. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!) :)

1900/120/1780
60 min walking
20 min upper body (strength training)
20 min lower body (strength training)
20 min yardwork

Ok I will do it.

my goal is more modest: 1650 about an hour a day. do I include 10-15 minutes of walking from one meeting downtown to another? how about vigorous housework? or just exercise in the gym?

Yvonne

Hi again...yesterday I took an entire day off of exercise...just a 20-minute walk! Wouldn't you know, the idea of exercising is already unappealing to me again! LOL

I'll put my month's goal at 1900 minutes.
