Ohmama, if you are beginning, as a walked I would suggest doing a Leslie Sansone DVD, start out with a mile or two and go from there, just keep increasing little by little. I was a 5 miles before I knew it and it is nice because you don't have to deal with the elements. I don't like listening to the constant Leslie chatter so I mute the sound and listen and walk to contemporary Christian music which put me a great state of mind too.

Wishing I could do the whole distance walking thing right now.
It's just not working well for me at the moment.
I have been getting to the y and working harder and with more focus esp. on the wieghts.
Good workout this morning.
Toni I think you are wise to start thinking and planning for winter now. You an do it. A lot of days really are nice enough to walk outside.

Clare, my legs would hurt so bad when I first started walking about 5 miles. I never ever pushed myself for yrs. When I started walking with my sister which loves to walk too and walks very fast, I knew it would be a challenge for me, but I was up for it. After the first time when we walked about 8 miles, I thought I was going to kill over and my feet hurt and even had a hard time sleeping because my legs ached. I never gave up and when we went 10 miles it was not hard at all. We now go only 8 miles and sometimes when we have more time we go the 10 miles. I just hope I don't give this up in the winter when I won't have her walking outside with me. The winter months are hard but I'll will try really hard to keep up the exercise by using my treadmill and elliptical.

Wow Toni...10 miles...that's like walking from Beulah to Hazen. Awesome...my legs would ache so bad. When I use my pedometer and get in 12,000 steps which equals 6 miles...man do my legs hurt by night time. I'm getting old. emoticon

My sister and I walked 10 miles last night....sure felt great!!! Sure wish I could start losing some more weight though. I haven't gained..... so I guess that's a good thing too.

I totally agree about the dying out on the fitness thread.....wonder what's up with that??? Maybe it could be that it's the summer and people are taking vacations....you knows and this is only starting my 2 summer with sparks.

Hey been wondering where you were at Lori. Come onto the June fitness thread. It's dying once again. Very few active people online. Really tough to keep motivation going when so few stay active on a forum.

I got in 50 minutes of treadmill this morning. Sure would be nice to walk this outdoors today as it is going to be a very nice day. Summer is around the corner.

I may not be one that gets into snacking but DARN I seem to be falling back into my chocolate/sweet cravings again. I need to get a handle on this. emoticon

3 miles of Leslie Sansone's Super Walk with cables this morning b/4 work...one of my favorite walk videos. This way I get in my strength training while walking, good sweat on too.

Walked outdoors this weekend, early mornings. Love the walks when it's early in the morning. This morning b/4 work...I did a 1 mile walk video...I was going to use this day for a rest day but decided a gentle brisk walk was better.

Trying to push water today again...I have such problems with drinking my water, especially at work...like my coffee at my desk. emoticon

Pushing the veggie salads too this week. Sometimes I just get tired of eating salads but I do like my fresh spinach from the garden in there now and added meat so salad is all I'm eating for lunch.

Have a great nutritious day! emoticon

Yep it's Saturday, a day I could sleep in and then I can't. Wide awake by 3 a.m. Watched a TV program I had taped, drank 3 cups of coffee, done some computer work, and got my walk in this morning outside. Nice and quiet out there. Now to plan the rest of my day.

This morning I did something entirely different on a workout. I got out my Wii EA Active and did the workout. The jogging in there for 6 minutes (3 min at a time) really was different for me. This month I am going to incorporate more jogging. I plan on getting on my treadmill since it's early in the morning when I exercise so I am not outside to enjoy the weather but I plan on getting walks in on the weekends with my DH and enjoy those early morning walks. He usually walks later in the mornings but I'm going to see if I can get him out there earlier to enjoy the peace/quietness in the mornings outside. Then I will do Walk at Home dvds also during the week. Planning and doing my exercise is much easier than my eating plans and getting my water drank everyday.

So tomorrow is a NEW MONTH...so LET'S GO TEAM! emoticon

I agree that our bodies are all different. Some of up lack certain things and others lack something else. Anyway we do what we can and what work best for us.

Last night I did my walking and started some jogging. I'm just about jogging anyway because i walk pretty fast now. It sure felt great! I noticed that my legs are finally looking more toned....haven't seen that for years. I lost inches everywhere. Since Jan 9 when I had to change the way I eat I have now lost a total of 20 pounds. It sure feel great!!!

Well this morning I had an egg, ww toast with peanut butter and here a couple hrs later, I'm really hungry. Checked the nutrition...yes it does give me more protein but the fiber is way down and I believe if you eat the fiber, that's what keeps you from being hungry. I'm going back to my fiber cereal. Ended up with a lot more calories too on this egg breakfast. Doesn't fit me...usually when I eat eggs, toast, and meat...that's my brunch.

Got 45 min in of the boot camp...getting stronger...I can tell. I'm going to measure and weigh-in on the weekend. It's been awhile since I've done this...hope to see some kind of results.

My husband has to eat often cuz he's a borderline diabetic, so he has to get the protein w/ a carb to keep his blood sugars level too. He always has a snack b/4 bedtime too...I don't snack. How we are all different...that's good too. Have a good day all!

Got in my walking and we planted 3 trees. I do get in my protein.....that's for sure. I always find ways to get in protein in the morning.....doc says I am always suppose to get in lots of protein right away when I wake up cuz of my low blood sugars. I used to eat just cereal because I had a hard time eating any kind of meat or eggs. He said not to worry about the col in eggs. Infact my col went down since i've been eating differently. I eat lots of meat....any kind and eggs for most of my protein. I also have to drink a protein shake once a day....try and find a drink that doesn't contain milk, it was hard so I get my shakes through the dr. Since I've been eating and drinking more protein I feel great. I never feel very hungry and it helps with keeping my blood sugars sable so therefore I don't crave sugar so much.

Well on our breakfast thread there was a good comment from Amy? on cereal and being sure you get your protein in the mornings and eat larger breakfast's and lunches and not so much at dinner and so it was a great reminder. I don't care for the carbs I get through the cereal so much but carbs give you energy and I need that through my day but run low on my protein so I am going to have to figure something out more. The cereal I eat usually has good fiber in, except maybe the multigrain cheerios, not so much. It's hard...you go for something good and then depletes something else. Like when you eat a sugarfree product...then they seem to have more sodium...why? You can't win...as I said b/4 I want to try and work more on my fiber and protein.

I am on my last week of Bootcamp with Coach Nicole. I do like her strength training workouts but WOW, this one I did this morning...really whipped me. emoticon I want to finish up this challenge by Memorial Day as we will be out of town come Sunday morning. So no rest days anymore on the bootcamp schedule....I'll be pushing it.

Have a good day!! emoticon

Dave and I work outside from about 6 til 9:30 last night. My rock garden is looking great. Have more planting to do though. Pretty excited about losing 2 more pounds this week....for a total of 3 pounds for the week. I did increase my water intake and less sodium. I also increase my good fats, which keeps me feeling fuller throught out the day so I don't snack as much.

Planning on taking a long walk after work if it's not raining,...guess we'll see!!

Lori: gardening is a lot of work. Lots of bending, stretching, up and down...does play one out. I had a rest day from boot camp yesterday and I did rest except for doing some planting of my pots...lots of carrying heavy pots and bags of dirt so using my muscle. Today I did Tone & Burn 30 min...no energy to do anymore than what the Boot Camp suggested. Tomorrow is 22 minutes of cardio but I am not working out with her. I am going to do a Leslie Sansone cardio walk...I miss her.

Oh yes the candy does look good...I look at them too and then I put it back thinking, I really do not need this in the house...I have plenty there already if I need a chocolate fix. DH has my favorite candy bars in the fridge over in the shop. I know they are there...and they have been there for some time. At least they are not in the house...and I like to bake so when I bake I eat some and give the rest away.

I haven't actually tracked my food the last day or so...but as far as I can see I haven't changed any on my servings and am being careful on the sodium so I feel I should be on track. I just have to track sometimes to get me back on the road to eye my servings. What I need is my water intake to increase and then I think I should get rid of my water retention. That's my challenge plus I am trying to increase my fiber...that's tough too.

Gardening and walking today and a little floor exercise for resistance. I am still not bending my left leg much. I am tired. Gardening is a lot like work. Hopefully things will look good soon.

40 minute total body workout with Coach Nicole... emoticon I have to say I will be glad when I am done with her 28 day boot camp. I am hoping I am putting on some muscle.

I was in range again yesterday with calories and sodium. Something else I would like to get up there in range is my fiber. Very few days do I make the range...usually below.

Clare, I started watching how much sodium I take in now too. You were actually a good reminder for me because I retain water.....always have. This morning I lost 1.5 pounds....WOOHOO!!! finally I'm starting to lose again, i've been at a stand still for so long.

Walked 95 mins last night. I've been walking pretty fast now so I call it power walking lol. After I came home Dave and I started planting shrubs....have lots more to plant!

Stayed in range for food and sodium yesterday, this morning 60 minute workout b/4 leaving for work at 7 a.m. I am always so glad to get it done as evenings too many other things to do, especially now that it's nice out...in the gardens and enjoying the outdoors since I'm inside by computer at work 5 days a week. emoticon

Yeah,
I had a fair day today.
Have to lay off a few things as I had a mole removed this afternoon and because of where the stitches are I need to keep off the elliptical and bike and out of the pool for 2 or three days anyway. Walk Walk Walk Walk.

I hope you all had a very nice Mother's Day. That is one day I did not track but I had a very good meal with my mother at Ruby Tues. Grilled Jumbo Shrimp, Grilled asparagus, and a garden salad....so it is Monday and I am back at tracking and I got in 60 minutes of exercise again b/4 work this morning so I am off to a great start in the week.

Today was a walking day as it's mother's day and I choose to skip the gym.
Pretty decent food though.

Well I have gotten in 2 15 minute stints of brisk walking. I am planning to walk a bit at the Y before I head to a graduation reception after work. I am not really thrilled about walking workouts two days in a row but I may ride bike a bit tonight if we get home before it gets too dark. That is getting later all the time. Tomorrow will be a gym day and I should have a good stretch now with less work hours.

It's not always possible to get a workout done somedays, but as long as we don't do it twice in a row, that's what makes it hard to get back on the band wagon. This morning I just couldn't get out of bed. I think the hour long exercise yesterday morning and working outside in the garden and dealing with the wind just did me in. emoticon I hope to get on the treadmill this evening or do a good mile with Leslie...she has some that are good for the end of the day that work for me.

By changing my exercise monthy and charting it all out for the month, it gives me motivation to go, go, go. Because I look forward to the next day, wondering...hmm what do I have listed for tomorrow's workout. Today is a rest day on Coach Nicoles boot camp but I still like to do some cardio anyway. I have my work out schedule done thru July. It helps me...I'm one that likes to check things off on a list or calendar.

Day 4...stayed in range of calories and sodium. Stepped on scale this morning and I like what I see. Tomorrow is weigh-in day to be posted so I'm happy. Long ways to go but I'll get there. I decided the only way I will get there is if I take the bull by the horns and stick to the plan. I'm not eating high sodium foods and white carbs my husband wants to make. He is going to eat it alone if thats what he makes. So this week has went well because I have been doing the cooking. Takes some planning before the next day so when I get home from work which is 5:50, I know what we are having and ready to be cooked. Looking into some slow-cooker recipes for next week.

Have a great day!

Couldn't quite make myself get to the gym today.
I have been working on 10 and 15 minute burst of danceing to the radio.
I am puffing a bit so I know it's cardio.

oops. I forgot that if you don't reply, you don't get daily posts either. My bad.

Clare, sounds like you are doing great! You amaze me that you can get up before work and do an hour of exercise...makes me feel a wee bit guilty. I do need to push harder. I like your idea of switching up monthly. I think our body even gets used to doing the same movements and then the exercise isn't as effective if we don't switch it up now and then. Or it seems that way to me anyway. I don't envy your commute to work. You certainly had a good winter this year for traveling, didn't you.

Well, I don't have any work online yet, so I'd better go get some exercise in and sewing, and hope for some work later in the day.

Day 3 in range emoticon on the food and in sodium range but was only 300 some grams off from the high end. I don't like that but it is so hard since EVERYTHING has sodium but at least I didn't go over.

Day 10 on the boot camp...I got in 60 minutes this morning b/4 work. This really feels good. I really had to push myself though BUT I did it.

Day 2 of in range with food tracker and also kept my sodium down. Now on the scale this morning, I see I lost that pound my body was retaining of water. Last evening my husband had pizza in the oven for dinner. No way Ho zay! I told him I was not eating pizza. So made up an italian dish for myself and stayed in range. This morning I felt so good, must have caught up on my sleep finally from the weekend. I have a lot more energy, got 30 minutes of Tone and Burn with Coach Nicole's 28 Day Bootcamp. I liked this one. Really worked the muscles. I hope to get some muscle on and Burn some fat!!

Hey Hey Hey.
Today is a walking day for me for as long as my knee will take ti.
Not a very nice day for outdoor walking so We'll see what happens. I think staying of the elliptical til my arms are happier is a good thing. So headed to the mall and LS.

OMG...I am so tired this week in the mornings. Really having a tough time getting up and getting my exercise done. I am exercising but not enough minutes because I get up later than I should. I am so tired since I had the granddaughters this last weekend and I'm sure the weather isn't helping. We really need some warm weather and SUN!! If I don't get with it, I won't even make my goal I set for the May Fitness Challenge.

One thing so far, so good...is I successfully tracked all my food yesterday and stayed in calorie range. So...here goes today...I WILL TRACK ALL MY FOOD TODAY ALSO!!! Ok, I made a commitment and wrote it down for all to see...so I need to do this. I did not do well over the weekend with my eating...way off and I gained another pound. I am going the wrong way...I need a good kick... emoticon

Toni, it sounds like you're doing good on the carb kick. Wish I could subtract them from my meals better.

Cherlyn, you must be doing grand on your WW's. I work in Riverdale, 40 mile commute from Beulah. Wish work was in town, I would bike or walk to work. Use to work in Bismarck HQ but transferred back in 2004.

Glad to hear Lori you had a successful day on your food intake.

I got my 4th day of boot camp finished this morning and walked on the tread mill after. My goal is 45 minutes daily, just need to increase the intensity...I think that will work for me. Even 30 minutes Cheryl is great...just increase the intensity. I change my routine of exercise around monthly or I get bored too. This month it's the boot camp and treadmill with a few Walk at Home Leslie Sansone workouts and weekends if weather permits I walk outdoors with DH. Next month I am incorporating some xbox and wii workouts with WAH dvds. Hope you all are getting time for yourself and getting the fitness minutes done along, with good healthy eating. Healthy eating doesn't always come easy with me. I still go back to the foods I should leave alone but once and awhile...what the heck.

I think for me cut off in the evening is a choice that is best for me. I have a friend who always has a late night snack or wakes up hungry at night and can't sleep. It's a personal thing not a rule for the world.
Great exercise day yesterday and pretty good food day for me of late. We'll count it as one success.

Personally, I prefer to have a snack in the evening and as long as you watch what you eat and how much, I don't think it is bad for the diet. But I am trying to be supportive to my friend who has issues with it. Apparently once he starts, he has trouble quitting. I find that if I have to track it, it is easier to control the quantity and quality.

Clare, do you work down in Bismarck? I didn't realize you had to commute every day.

I really need to increase my distance with walking. I just have such a hard time pushing myself beyond the 30 minutes without getting bored.

Cholesterol Panel yesterday. Bad news as expected.
Probably you will hear a lot here about my struggles to get things back in control
Applebees appetizers last night. Not a good plan. I need to come up with a better plan for this as it's going to be a once a month thing for youth leaders for a while. I looked up the nutrition and picked the best option but I need to plan to split with someone next time.

My DH is borderline diabetic so he has to have protein and a small carb for night snack. I just am not hungry after dinner to have a snack. We eat usually around 6:30 - , do dishes then watch a little TV and in bed by 8:30 - 9. I get up by 4:30 - 5 so I can get my exercise done b/4 work. I have a 40 mile commute to work so I have to leave by 7:10 to make it to work by 8.

I got day 2 done on the boot camp...was much better day today. I even jumped a little. emoticon Then I got on the treadmill and had a great sweat out. Should have gotten some of that sodium out of my body...now if only I could get the water drank. Brought myself 2 - 24oz bottles of water today to get drank b/4 3:00. I have to have the water down by then or I'm up during the night too much. But then with the water...I have my coffee yet too. Also stop that by 2 - 3 in the afternoon.

I am trying to push more veggies and protein too Toni, instead of those darn carbs. I find I sleep much better too if we eat a little earlier and I get on the treadmill but that doesn't always work.

Clare, I think that 28 day workout is hard to follow too. After a while it does get easier....just hang in there.

My time to eat is after work which is about 6 or 6:30 and I eat lots of protein or protein shake and then I go for my long walks. At about 8:30 I eat more protein and veggies....not so much carbs, this helps me sleep great at night. I was told by my doctor to do this so I sleep better and not to let my blood sugars get to low.

A friend gave me the challenge of no snacks after 7 p.m. as nighttime snacking is an issue for him. I prefer to save room in calories or points (I'm trying WW right now) for a snack in the evening because I have to eat my dinner meal by about 4:45, so to me I think a snack in the evening is important. I'll just have to get used to doing it by 7 is all and not stay up so late I guess.

I really like Leslie's videos as well, but am trying to add Jillian's 30-day shred to get a little more intensity in my exercise. i think my body has gotten too used to the same thing and just isn't burning calories like I think it should be.

I am not one who snacks. Very seldom...but I think it's because I eat enough at meal time. I am really trying to watch what I eat. I think my biggest problem is the sodium. I'm not the regular cook in the house...my husband cooks since he is retired. He isn't one for cooking healthy foods much. I hate counting calories so I am trying the plate method with so much protein, veggies and grains. I am doing the 28 day Coach Nicoles workout this month. I am not impressed by her workouts. She is hard to follow. I like Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home videos a lot more. But I am willing to work with Nicole the next 28 days and see if I can follow her better as each day comes. Have a great day...try to keep it healthy.

Never give up even if you did have a bad day pick yourself up and move forward once again. We are all here in the same boat. Let's work together as a team.
