I know you are glad to be out of the classroom setting. Enjoy your weekend.

Heading out with DH for a seafood supper, then home to relax & start our 3 day weekend. Will be traveling to SC Sunday after church to visit my parents for a belated Mothers Day & belated Dad's birthday.

I spent the entire day yesterday in a room with a student taking an Algebra EOC. No book, no phone, no paper, no computers, no talking allowed. The student didn't finish. BLaaaahhhh!

Oh my, you are juggling so much right now, I could not even fathom that much on my plate, no pun intended. Have you tried to just exercise or some other activity to help with the stress @ least for being able to have a relaase. I know when I'm all worked up about something, a walk helps to clear my mind & also relaxes me. Cardio is a good alternative to letting the stress take over. Just some suggestions that work for me.
Hope things ease up or at least you find a way to cope with the life stresses in your day to day.

Oh my gosh I'm so thankful to have found a message board just for venting! I will need to utilize this!! I am SO stinkin' stressed out due to school and wedding and family and fiancé's deployment and graduation and career decisions and the entire time all I want to do is just SLEEP!! People really just don't get the toll this stress is taking on my body! The problem is, I can't change any of it! I can't remove it, I can only deal with it! But how the heck do you deal with something you can't deal with?!?! I just wanna.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many Blessings!

It sounds like you may have hit a plateau. You may need to change something up about your routine to trick your metabolism into working again. Perhaps decrease your calories one day but increase the next day but just so you are still balancing out for the correct amount over a weeks time or even change your workout time & intensity.

Things have been going really well and I have been consistently losing weight every week until 2 weeks ago. Now I am gaining and losing the same pound. I'm staying at 1200-1300 calories and exercising. I am starting to get discouraged. emoticon

I would take a look at what you are eating in the evenings. Maybe you aren't balanced with protein & carbs, perhaps too much sugar? I know that's what I've found to be the problem with me. Have a balance of carbs & protein, maybe a small apple with cheese or peanut butter or even a handful of nuts.

Here it is straight up. I'm hungry. I'm so hungry that my tummy growls (loudly enough to scare small children) and my back hurts. I'm serious. It wakes me up at night. I get a bite to eat and it eases up. I'm following the guidelines that I got from SparkPeople and keep my calories/nutrition at the top end but that does not seem to be enough. (By the way... reasonable and even generous.) How am I going to ever reach my goal if eating like a normal person is not enough?

I know what you mean...I had to order out to Zaxbys today, chose what I thought was a healthier sandwich ...the Cajun Chicken sandwich, boy was I suprised to see there was 700+ calories in that sandwich!

The biggest challenge I have had is last minute preparation or last minute meals. Sometimes I have to eat on the go and it is really hard to decide which foods are better for me.

My go to snack when I have a sweet craving is putting a tblsp of nutella in my yogurt. It is a creamy chocolaty snack that has protein. I do watch to see if my calories etc. are OK for adding it.emoticon

I was told by my trainer today that it is okay to occasionally give in to the sweet tooth. But when you do, do not take any more than 2 to 3 bites and get rid of it. Then immediately drink some water with stevia in it. That should satisfy your craving without breaking the calorie bank. I thought it sounded good so I am going to try it. I ate a slice of homemade cake and pie on Easter which was not good.

the best thing I'm doing about the dessert issue is cutting out sugar for Lent. Last night at this Jan Karon thing I went to at church downtown Raleigh the meal was a buffet. Since it was Sunday I freely grazed on EVERYTHING. Today I'm paying for it. Funny to me how yuck I can feel after over eating, especially on the sugar.

I just wonder if I will keep up the once a week sugar hit after Easter.

Hi Yogi: I originally come from NY and then moved near Baltimore, MD when my son in law was stationed there so I could help out my daughter with my then 4 month old grandson. Now he is going to be 7(yikes) and there is a 3 yr old too and now he is going to be stationed at Ft Bragg. We are moving down there to be with them again to help out. Looking for apartments in the surrounding areas for hubby and I and then dtr and her family.
Wanted to just say I find desserts the hardest too. Since I have started back on SP and WW, have been to the Golden Corral 2 times. I loaded up on salad, rotisserie chicken, 1 pc of my beloved bruschetta(my supreme weakness) and fruit and just got so full I didnt even go up to the dessert bar. It was tough but I knew if I did it would be hard. So my advice is just fill up on the salad bar, the veggies and fruit and hopefully you will be too full to worry about dessert. If it's really tough, keep an aloowed program dessert and have it when you get home to compensate. Gale

I want to be a person I can look up to.

What works for me is "moderation". It's ok to have an occasional sweet dish as long as it's in moderation.

DBELLE, I think most of those kinds of drivers live here in NC. It is getting to be a cut throat society, or some of the time. Just pray that people would learn to love one another the way the Lord intended!

Hope you & your DH are feeling better soon WILLITWORK. Make sure to stay well hydrated & get lots of rest.

I guess my vent today is not understanding why some drivers have no regard for their own lives or anyone elses. On my way in to work, traveling in a 60 mph zone on the 4 lanes, had a driver that nearly took off my front bumper to get in front of me, I actually had to brake to keep from hitting her, she went about 1/2 mile & did the same manuever again to get back into the right lane to merge off to another major highway, this time nearly clipping 2 vehicles in the process. ARGGHHH!!!

Time is one thing I think we all struggle with how to manage, I know I sure do. I've also cut back on SP time myself but it seems there's still never enough time to accomplish everything.
My vent today is this lingering migraine headache that is wanting to camp out!

My frustration today is time. I can't seem to find the time to do all the things I want to do as well as the things I need to do. Today I'm missing a golf tournament because I need time to catch up on housework and other errands. I think I will have to cut short the amount of time I spend on Spark People site.emoticon

No advice from the nurse, guess she figured since I had them before than I could handle it well. I just don't remember having this much soreness from the injection area.
She called to give me the lab report --no exactly the results I wanted, my A1C is too high, still. Although my Triglycerides are still too high, they did drop quite a bit in the past 3 months, but still work to be done.

Mentioning grandma brings to mind beautiful memories. I remember mine rocking and singing"Amazing Grace". I think she rocked all of us to sleep with the hymn. She also kept us knowing what was right and wrong. Thanks for the mention!

That's so rude of them to do that. Whatever activities we plan, we try to not impose on others as I try to be as respectful of others as I would want. Grandmas taught me to live my the golden rule, even though she's no longer with us, I still remember alot of the things she taught me growing up, oh how I miss her so much, especially this time of year.

My vent this morning is uncaring neighbors. Our neighbors were having an outside party last night that kept me awake. Their music was blaring for all to hear until 1:00 AM. I have red eyes this morning due to no sleep

Golfgma, will remember your mom in my prayers as God completes his work in answering prayers concerning her health. I can imagine how you must feel seeing your mom ill, I remember how I felt seeing Daddy look so helpless lying there & knowing nothing short of a miracle would pull him back onto his feet. God is good.

Thanks Dbelle for your kindness. I went to a revival service last night at my son's church and it was good to see many friends and relatives there. My husband and I were married in that church and it still feels good to go back there.

So happy that your Dad is improving. The new specialist we took Mom to isn't sure surgery will help and we're going to try new medicine for two weeks before taking that step.

Golfgma, hope your mom is feeling better, sorry to hear she's under the weather. My parents visited us at church last night. Was wonderful to see Daddy able to get up &move around, he looks much better than the last time I saw him in the hospital. He's improving but still has more improvements to make.

We had a great revival this week, I'm just so tired this morning as I didn't sleep well last night, still dealing with a Charley Horse in my leg from the previous night. This one doesn't seem to want to leave! LOL!

Good morning all! Still kind of new here and getting the hang of the website. I think my biggest frustration is continuing to be on a plateau and not being able to push through. I have lost inches from exercise and really try to not concentrate so much with the number on the scale, but it's hard to do. Hope you all have a great day and God bless!

Dbelle, Hang in there. We'll make it. Was trying to catch up yesterday and had a call Mom wasn't doing well. Went down and spent 8 hours with her and decided what I thought I needed to do wasn't all that important. We will live without the groceries I thought we had to have. Mom was in such pain I could easily see she needed me. The Holy Spirit tells us what to do.

I second that sentiment. Education is the key to every aspect in life. I thought I knew about eating and weight loss until I joined SP in July. I have learned so much and I know I'll continue to do so. It is just a matter of time, with God's help, before I reach my goal. Can our children say the same about their goals when education is taking a back seat? How do those sitting in legislative positions justify all of the educational cuts?

How can you say no when you visit a elderly women and she offers you and your husband pie and will not take no for an answer. So I say no, still get pie and then feel guilty if I dont finish it. This was a work related visit and it was no where near meal times. I thought we were in the clear.

Anything I can do to help??? I know I've had days where I just wasn't in to taking care of me. Actually I had gotten lazy the past few weeks, but after a walk up call that I refer to as my medical lab work I have a renewed vision. Every little healthy change does make a difference, just take it a step at a time.

We have been making little changes (my husband and I) we have been buying stuff for salads, all natural nuts and fruits and veggies as well as he was raised on whole grains (I wasn't) so now we are eating whole grain bagels, bread and muffins. The produce is a bit pricey right now because we have yet to find a Farmer's market or anything of that nature close by where we can purchase our produce cheaper than at a grocer. I have been teaching myself how to portion my intake at meal times and that has helped to make foods last a lot longer. I also keep packs of sugarfree gum like dentyne or something nearby to chew on when I feel like I may need it because it helps me from binging and eating uncontrollably throughout the day. I know that little by little it helps, its just really hard sometimes. Thanks for the advice and the motivation

I know it's tough, it's alarming what we are spending at the grocery store as compared to a year ago. I must admit I don't buy the whole wheat & whole grains as none of my family will eat them so I figure it's too wasteful. I do try to cook homestyle meals --avoid using prepackaged foods & watch portions so as I keep my calories in check. Just do what you can to make little changes, it goes a long way.

oh, the produce stands and going to actual produce farms that are local are the best ways to save on produce most definitely. I just hate that things like Almond milk, whole wheat or whole grains products and other types of healthier foods are more costly than the less healthy foods. In this economy, people buy what they can afford and if all one can afford is the cheaper less healthy foods then losing weight becomes more difficult. What makes it worse is that even with couponing as an option, many stores are now making it more difficult to save or are limiting customers on coupon usage and the amount of savings that they can accrue... how are people supposed to eat right, be fit and live within their means all at the same time?

I can certainly agree with your frustration. As an overweight diabetic it's disheartening when I'm trying to cut costs in this economy to find that the frugal way of eating is geared more towards unhealthy eating. However I've learned to bargain shop, especially for produce @ at those roadside produce stands, many times I can buy fruits & veggies there cheaper than at the grocer.

I am new to all of this and I am trying to learn how to eat right, be fit and healthier but my rant for today is that this society doesn't want overweight or obese people in it YET everything that is made to help a person lose weight or even healthier foods are over priced. It's no wonder people are discouraged and give up.

Wow, I don't know what to say except I can fully understand since my husband has been known to do something similar. Tell me are you getting negative feedback from him as you try to live healthy and have had issues over the weight you have gotten to come off? I know here in my home, after a long talk I was dealing with my husband's fear and jealousy. He was fearful of me leaving and jealous of my losing weight and starting to care more about myself and looks. I can tell you on the days I've lived through similar experiences to yours I have banged cabinet doors and made loud comments to make sure its understood I am not a happy camper and do not appreciate the behavior. Since I would not and have not done anything like that to him.

I hope you were able to enjoy your meal, de-stress and relax and are having a better day today.emoticon

Glad this thread is here. I need to vent. I worked 9 hours today. Husband at home. He goes to the grocery store and purchased food for him to eat. He prepares his food and he eats. He eats all that he prepares. When I get home from work. There is no dinner for me. Nothing. Not even a crumb. How selfish. I had to go to the nearest grocery store and purchase a Lean Cuisine for my dinner emoticon. No wonder I can not get the weight off. I am not a happy camper. Will be going to bed soon.

Suzy, I feel your pain --I've been here 3 years & am anything but pleased with my success ---seesm I go down, then back up, then down, etc....would love to be off of this roller coaster. But like you said I do feel stronger & have more energy, so that's a plus right?! Hang in there --don't give up, I just know you will break that plateau.

emoticon Okay, I am almost at my 1 year Spark Anniversary and I am still sitting on the plateau I've been on for MONTHS. I wish I could get out of these 140s and onto the 130s. I am getting frustrated that's why I am looking for new goals to accomplish by organizing my home, and considering the garage remodeling. I track my food, do LOTS of exercise and have been mixing it up, but still no results with the scale or clothing sizes.

I guess I should look on the bright side- I am very active, eating so much better, got good results from medical checkups, and my weight hasn't rebounded and climbed back up drastically.emoticon

Thanks Donna, maybe that explains it. My credit rating is very good but I am not currently employeed so maybe that has something to do with it.

You aren't alone in being behind with your holiday shopping. I'm usually done by the 1st weekend in December, but that's when I started this year. I hope to finish this weekend.

I have not even started shopping. I am definitely having to limit what I purchase. With the weather change I guess I will have to do it next week. I am so far behind.

I know how you feel, our home loan is also in DH's name ---we had to do it that way due to my credit was being rebuilt from negative activity years earlier.Although I signed all the paperwork as well, my name isn't on the loan or the tax records --very frustrating.

Today, I decided to call our home equity line company since when we just finished refinancing we made so that the equity line would be paid off in full. I just wanted to call and insure the balance was zero otherwise make a final payment to have it be so. Guess what, even though I was present and signed papers with my husband when we opened the home equity line and I signed many papers doing the refinancing I am somehow not on the home equity line account and information is not available to me. Man, was I hot!emoticon I am happy to a point that they are protecting the account but do not understand why my name is not present and upset because if something happens to my husband I am still responsible for this account. I have place a call to the bank representative my husband and I have dealt with since the beginning of opening the account a few years back. I am still waiting to hear back from her. I called my husband and was basically spitting nails over the phone while I vented.

Now I just called to inquire about paperwork for the time share in Myrtle Beach, SC and the points system that is also part of it to get the run around.

To combat all this negative stress I did my workouts in between calls to be a more cooperative mood and a better listener. The yoga, shape boxing, and elliptical have done wonders for me. Now I am preparing to dye my hair a warmer brown color and read over all the legal paperwork with highlighter in hand to get a better grasp and prepare better questions to be answered.

You have to just put one foot in front of the other & do it, once you start it's much easier.

Enjoying the quiet morning while I get ready for work, SIL & DD already left for work/school, DH fixing to leave to work in Greenville. Getting my haircut today, sure needs it, starting to look like the shaggy dog.

Your place sounds like mine! I am now on the upside of being sick with the flu & pneumonia with my energy level back up. My husband just finished his round of Tamiflu to try and ward it off and I picked up my son from school today due to his complaint of a headach and stomach ache to get there and find out he vomitted. Good news is he doesn't have a fever but and after laying down to rest he's back to his norm but will have to remain out of school tomorrow due to school rules.
I understand your frustration with not being able to keep up with your workouts and staying consistent due to health and the care of others. Dust yourself off like I am and just try doing small steps forward.

I managed to walk the dogs in the frigid cold this morning for 1.19 miles, did 31 minutes of Wii yoga then continued on to do another 20 minutes of Wii fit plus games. The rest of the day has been baking cookies, caring for my son, housecleaning, laundry, oh and the dreaded pile of ironing. Its good to be back up to par, but trying not to overdo it is going to be a challenge.

Hang in there. Get yourself feeling better. It really is so frustrating to move backwards, but keep looking forward. You can do this!

Thanks for giving us a place to vent. I recently got a nasty cold that's been going around. Then my husband and now both kids have gotten it. In the chaos of being sick and then having to take care of the sickly, I gained 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks. UGH!!! I'm getting back on the bandwagon this week, but I'm still frustrated. With as much weight as I need to lose, moving backward is so difficult!emoticon

Hi Sarah,
Sounds like you are doing everything correct with your tracking, water, and exercise. My scale has been very slow to move but I saw results in my fitness level, energy level, and when going to the doctor in my blood pressure and cholestrol readings.
In order for the weight to come off and the inches you need to get the cardio in and work up to doing 45 minutes. Ideally when your fitness level is good you should be aiming for 4 -5 days a week of cardio to get the fat burned off and the inches.

Look in SP for an article telling you other ways to see results to help you contend with the scale issue. I know how frustrating it is, just don't give up. This a lifestyle change for the better and is ongoing- its not a quick fix. The scale will move just give it time.

Hi everyone. I am newer to this group and I am glad that I have a place to vent my frustration. Let me say to start that I am very motivated and will continue on my path to get healthy so I am not planning on stopping. I just need to vent so I can stay focused. Ok, here goes...

I started back with SP on Nov 1. When I weighed in I started at 193. The next week I weighed 190. I knew this was water weight however I'll take what I can get. (BTW I am not really obsessed with the scale--just a little!) The very next week I had regained 2.5 lb. So now I was at 192.5. Ok, I guess I can live with that. Over the ensuing weeks I have weighed myself once a week--sometimes every two weeks (we need to allow for Aunt Dot and Cousin Flow) and I am still at 192.5! I have been watching what I have been eating, exercising consistently and trying to get to the Y at least three times a week. I try to get exercise in daily if I can. I am drinking my water, taking my vitamins, etc. etc. and I still have lost a half pound!!!!

I definitely feel better. I know muscle weighs more than fat, etc. etc. But it still really stinks that I only have a half pound to show for my efforts. I also have seen no change in my measurements.

Sorry for the groaning. I know that I have nothing to complain about. I'm healthy and am grateful. Just a little frustrated I'm not seeing results.

Thanks!
Sarah

Don't worry Donna, I am going to go against my own grain of stubborn-ness and listen to the doctor. I most definitely want to be healthy for the holidays and back in the classroom with the new year.

I just need to re-evaluate what I want to accomplish with my days since me volunteering at the school, soup kitchen, or elderly is not going to be feasible. I will come up with something and just find some positives and move forward while allowing my body to recover properly.
