For the third time in three days I have to go into ABQ. This time to pick up meat from the raw feeders' co-op. I hope these dogs appreciate what I do for them. I'll combine grocery shopping and some other errands and stay home until next Monday! I am almost finished with the goat--really can't see that she is any better or worse. I think she is allergic to the grasses and weeds. I have started adding other foods back and haven't seen a change. Glad your husband is okay.

Enjoy the day!

Are you still getting the goat too? They are lucky dogs that you care so much.
It has been so hot down here too. I work in the yard until around 11:30 .Then I just start getting dizzy. I am slowly getting stuff done. It will be nice when it cools down a bit.
Hubby's test looked okay as far a we can tell still so far no terrible calls .He picked up the report yesterday he wound up in town for work so just stopped
Off to work with me Just errands after I wish we were going camping instead LOL

It has been sizzling this month. It did cloud up here and spit a bit--impressive lightening show north of here last night. I bet they got some significant moisture.

Got home late late last night and have to go back to the training center today. My you know what is dragging. AND I just learned I will have to go back into ABQ tomorrow to pick up chicken necks and turkey hearts from the co-op. The things I do for the dogs--wonder if they appreciate it?! Tipsy has to have her nails dremeled this morning and I know she won't appreciate that.

Enjoy it all.

Leone it sounds like it will be worth the effort you are putting into it. Nothing better then working with critters. Nice when they start leveling up .I am sure she will do good you have been working hard.

No word from the dr yet so I am thinking that is good news. I will swing by the imaging center and pick up a copy of the report.

I worked in the yard for a bit this morning . No snakes YIPPIE. I have to go fill the bird feeders and check the mail. Then I am going to put my feet up and finish my book. It is already too hot outside .

Have a great day emoticon

I have been MIA for a few days--it really is a busy time of the year.

Aria, I am so sorry your knees are bothering you and you will miss the camping trip! My knees give me a lot of trouble too and it just makes for frustration and less fun.

How did your husband do at the doctor Arlene? I hope all is well.

It is going to be a long day. In preparation for my Obedience Trial over Labor Day, I need to attend some drill classes to accustom Tipsy to new dogs. Unfortunately the Novice drill classes are scheduled at 8:15 pm about an hour and an half away. The south Valley of ABQ is a long way from Jemez Springs. UGH. Hopefully she will finish her Novice title at this trial. The next level of drill classes is during the day. Maybe a nap wouldn't hurt.

Enjoy the day.

I caught back up ladies :) Welcome HNORDQUIST! I have been crazy this week! I have spent time at the school, helping out. I have gotten the shots in my knees (round 2 - 2 more to go)... and Lunch with Hubby (Tues). Today was tons of errands with Dr Visit, Getting Rx for Sis-In-Law as it had to be picked up within a 2 hr window while she was at work, Got my hair cut, Out and about shopping with hubby. Tomorrow, we have a friend coming for a visit (early for me 9a-ish) and then Orthodontist appt for Son... and I probably should fold Laundry so Hubby has clean items to put on :D hehehe
Arlene you aren't alone. I am constantly making a fool of myself. you could easily follow me around an laugh all day. My knee has been really bugging me, and with Thunder and Lightening this week I haven't tried to get to the pools (plus they are usually closed the week before school starts for a good cleaning). I am counting the days until Monday so I can get back into the pool and exercise & walk.

I am sorry to hear the sign still isn't done... oh me, oh my! My son's Boy Scout Troop is going camping in 2 weekends.. and I had to make the rough call of not going, as my knee has really been bothering me with pain. So between the pain, and no CPAP I wouldn't be much use to anyone.. not even sure I could hike from the Campsite to the Lake. (sigh) . I enjoy the family camp out though, getting to know that community of folks better.

The whole fish hook thing is cracking me up. I used to go fishing with my 2nd husband. He was really into fly fishing. I used to go and draw or take photos . I was sitting behind him and he hooked my leg. It ripped right back out. I used to joke I was the biggest think he ever caught .It happened so fast it really didn't even hurt that much LOL Another time him and his friend went fishing. His friend hooked himself in the nose in the first few minutes they were fishing . he fished with the fly in his nose all day hahahaha

Bear got into the porcupines in Cloud Croft. He was a goofy sweet Rottweiler that loved attention. He would volunteer for bathes ,being groomed with a razor (what is it that you shave on a rotti? I used to do his paw pads to make him feel like part of the gang) Nail trims. anything that made you touch him. I used to ask him to at least find large quills so I could make something out of them. All the other dogs learned the first time they encountered quills .It was a nightmare all 5 dogs in one incident. I had to tranquilize everyone except my JRT and Bear.
In Ruidoso quill removal was a big money maker.I would be on the look out for them if your puppies are game hunters.
Okay back to the kitchen with me thanks for the chuckles ladies Nothing like an old memories to crack yourself up emoticon

HA! Well, I haven't seen them licking them, but a good nudge with a paw could do some real damage. I would call our dogs only averagely intelligent, and they are only a year old, so they still have lessons to learn. I dread the skunk incidents......

Are there porcupines in NM?

Porcupine quills--my uncle had a ranch dog like that, never did learn to stay away.

One time (speaking of sharp things with a barb) my husband and son went fishing and Bob caught Nick in the lip with the barb. I met them at the doc's and he was a young guy and not an outdoor sort. The hook was not quite all the way through Nick's lip and this guy was going to just pull it out. I think Bob and I screamed together NO! We told him it needed to be pushed through and the barb cut off. The doctor made us go to the emergency room. Simple procedure. That was also bonding time. They still fish--just not together.

Enjoy the day.

The dogs we have now live to try to catch things but they never seen to get anything other then the occasional chicken if they breech the fence . I am very surprised your dogs will play with the toads. They usually taste so bad dogs won't go near them again after the first time. I will admit some dogs aren't the brightest. We had one that thought one day the skunks would be her friend and another that loved having quills pulled. That silly dog would jump up into a tree to grab a porcupine and run back to meas if to say " oh look mom we can do some serious bonding now" He would sit and be happy for hours while I removed quills.

We were actually quite surprised that the song birds weren't quick enough to get away. We have a retriever mix who will actually catch them in his mouth mid air! His sister is more of a digger and brings us gophers. As for the lizards, I don't know if ours are just slow, but they get them AND eat them. The toads don't seem to be super appetizing, but they both want to PLAY with them and I am afraid they will kill them in the process. We live just across the road from a natural wet land, so there are LOTS of toads around. Haven't seen a rattlesnake on the property yet, but it wouldn't surprise me.

You have a great day also!

That's a good question. Maybe like they do with rattlesnakes using an aversion technique. Since toads can be poisonous it could be a life saver. I have never seen a toad here, but we used to get them in Bosque Farms and if a dog got one they would drool and foam at the mouth. My dogs love to chase lizards, but we have so much cover--bushes and grass clumps, they seldom catch them. You must have VERY agile dogs if they are getting song birds!

Today will be a fairly quiet day with some catch up, but nothing pressing.

Enjoy the day!

Yes, country living always keeps you on your toes. Anyone have ideas for training your dogs that toads are not to be eaten? ;-) I really don't mind the mice, the gophers and the pigeons, but the song birds, the toads and the lizards get to me.

Oh My Gosh!!!! I probably would not live long enough to get to the hospital. I would have a heart attack. The mice have all of a sudden really gone down around here . I have changed the way I am feeding the chickens though. I no longer leave food out all the time. There are 5 of them and a turkey. They can come and get it at feed time. . It has really made the mice go away. emoticon Or maybe I have snakes emoticon
This was the first one I have seen. I usually come across a gopher snake eating eggs. Even they seem to be gone :(
Better go finish chores so I can get ready to leave . emoticon emoticon emoticon so darn hot I needed a break emoticon

It is a beautiful sight, but too much of an incline for my uncooperative knee. Las Conchas might be a stretch, but it is relatively flat. I'm walking a mile plus everyday, but it is hard. We used to get 20 or so together and do one of the Caldera hikes every year at the end of tourism season and before hunting season. Beautiful!

Las Conchas is nice. The one across from Valle also pretty mild and only a couple of miles or so. It is really worth it when you get to the top and see the whole Caldera!!! I'll let you know when I'm up that way!

Have fun Arlene! Nice to get away from it all once in a while. I have a little garden snake around and she startles me every time I see her. So far this year no rattlesnakes (except the fake ones around our cars). The mice and rats are proliferating this year so no wonder the snakes are too. Glad you didn't get bit. Back in the 1920's my grandmother was helping with building fence and didn't notice she had stepped on one--bit her several times, and she was in the hospital for weeks and almost died. Now it just costs close to $100,000 for the anti-venom--read an article just yesterday about how expensive it is to treat.

Have a good day!

I am feeling much better. I am afraid to get any restorative work done now. LOL
That sign is a bugger
I was cutting back yesterday since I am such a dope. I I always wear flip flops they leave better tan lines .. Any way I found a gorgeous tiny white arrow head where I had been dragging the brush. about a minute later I noticed my next move would have been a small rattle snake. It was about a foot away from my hand. So glad the little arrow head really had me paying attention to my surrounding Or I would have been one of those idiots you see on the news.
Running errands after work then heading up to the forest near Cloud Croft to zone out for a few days. Not electric No Internet see you when I get back

I'll bet Austria was enchanting too! I used to hike the Caldera all of the time--blew my knee out at a dog agility trial a couple of years ago and the fix was worse than the torn meniscus. I think I could do the Las Conchas Trail--one of my personal favorites. Just let me know and we can arrange something.

NO THE SIGN IS NOT FINISHED! Broke a drill bit and have to get another today after dog training. That sign will be up tomorrow night or I'm throwing the damn thing out! Will post a pic!

Enjoy your day!

Oh, I read your dentist story and OUCH! I hope you are feeling better soon!

Yes, it is true, NM is like no other place in the world. I was living in Vienna, Austria, which is also fabulous in its own way, but there's no place like home.

Now, to go and avoid some sopaipillas. I think this summer has thrown me for a loop. I love to hike, but this constant rain has "dampened" my plans. Last summer was spent moving and settling in, but this year I'd love to get out there if there wasn't a rainstorm every single day. It's alright. I am a native to NM and know that you should never speak badly of precipitation.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Welcome home! There is no place on earth like NM!

That's awful Arlene. I know when I had back surgery it took a couple of years before I felt normal in my own body, but never thought how messing with your teeth could cause the same problems!

Hello NM!

I arrived back home about a year ago. I guess the enchiladas and sopaipillas got the best of me, so here I am.

Diet and exercise finally getting off the ground. Look forward to meeting some of you. I am north of Santa Fe, BTW.

I have had gum surgery twice and had a dental implant about 2 years ago. That really took a toal on my neck. It was a lot of work an many trips to the dentist. I really regret it. my bite is not longer the same. and I keep biting my lip. ;) I have even chipped my tooth. I should have just gotten a partial. I have always taken really good care of my teeth. It was one of the things my mom was huge on . Ha it has just never worked in my favor. I guess I still have some teeth .She lost all of hers very young.
Any way the problems in my neck were really disturbed by the dental work. It pinched nerves and bulged discs. I already had problems it just made them worse. It has taken me this long to be able to do these things again. I thought I was going to have to have surgery. Thank God I found my PT guy he has really helped and my body is really getting strong again. It has been an up hill slow battle :)
Did you get your sign finished?
Better go out and lock the chickens in. I have seen some big cat prints out there.

Oh yeah. Stronger body. Me too. I did some research after deciding to add strength training and yesterday chose a program for seniors from the cdc.gov. You start out for two weeks using your own body weight and slowly add in other weights and exercises over the course of 12 weeks. The four exercises and stretches looked pretty easy and I started the program. I must be really out of shape. I was absolutely shaking by the time I finished and I ache today. I do a lot of heavy lifting and carrying and so on, but was amazed at how weak I felt at the end of the first session. So--I can only go upward, right?!

I hate going to the dentist and have been known to stretch my six month check up to a few years. But am doing better and my teeth are in good shape. I have to remind them each time that I do not want xrays because I am not doing anything major anyway.

Enjoy your day!

Have fun at the dentist :) I go in November for a cleaning but am thinking I may not make it. I have a crowned tooth that is starting to give me some trouble :/

The classes used to be on Tuesdays and I had 2 clients so could not get there,That was the first problem. The next was that volunteer thing. I have worked weekends for 7 years now. It made that seem impossible. I used low water plants in our yard for the most part. I spent the first 5 years we were in NM driving around and seeing what survived here .And trying those plants .It seems to work

I will be back on pine needle removal today. I am nearly done. I am cutting back the creosote bushes too. Those babies take over if you turn your back on them. I also really have to cut back some of the bamboo. I need a stronger body to get every thing done. hahahaha

The Master Gardener program is a great deal, but I had to quit after the second year. I was working and it is hard to give back 40 hours of volunteer time. I also used to attend the Xeriscape conference. It used to be mostly about how to garden with little water. Now it is more of a water conference and the gardening part has been moved to the fairgrounds as a vendor kind of program. But I learned so much from the early programs. Judith Phillips' books are marvelous and I like Lauren Springer's book too. Lots of good info out there.

Tomorrow is a dental appointment in the morning. Other than that not much going on.

Enjoy!

I think gardening is in the DNA too. No doubt about it. Most of my cousins and second cousins garden . Our Aunts and uncles did too. I think we were infected with it LOL growing up in NJ is a whole world away from NM I had to learn everything over again to get it right here. Still lots more to learn . I would love to take the master gardening classes they offer here. I do not however wish to travel with them and attend their affairs so have never done so.
I survived the grand girlies. We did not get to paint out bench it was looking like rain on Thursday morning and Thursday night it did rain.Maybe next time
we made some beaded bracelets and they collected and painted more rocks they really seem to enjoy that. I am going to have painted rocks EVERYWHERE!!!!! I really want to show them water color paints. It is such a fun medium . I got them paper and everything.. they want rocks .
I used to have beautiful house plants. LOL the cat I have now thinks they are tasty. I even started some pineapple tops in the hopes of him leaving them alone no such luck goofy thing even chews them .
The competitions sound fun. I have several friends back east that do that. It looks like so much fun.
Okay out to the garden with me . Looks like it is getting cool enough to go pick some veggies
Have a nice night :)

I use hoeing and gardening as an exercise. But it has been too hot during the day and the mosquitoes are out early and late when it is cooler. Today is dog training in the South Valley. Can't wait for that. I believe I will begin trialing in September over Labor Day. Am really looking forward to finding out how we do. (Competitive Obedience).

Other than that same old same old--but I do like my routine.

Enjoy the day.

I guess gardens have always been a part of my life. My grandparents were farmers, but had retired to a big garden when I was around. Grandma had a huge perennial garden with bleeding hearts, hollyhocks and all of the other beauties that grow so well in the midwest. And Grandpa had swaths of berries and a great vegetable garden. My parents had a huge vegetable garden. My other grandparents were ranchers here in NM. Grandma had some vines and ornamental bushes around the house, but with no water, that was it. When we moved from MI to NM, water was a big issue. I learned that midwest plants didn't do so well in the SW! I don't do veggies, but my husband did when we were in Bosque Farms. I took the Master Gardener course and was a Master Gardener for a couple of years. Once I got into waterwise gardening and xeriscape, I really enjoyed growing the beautiful plants that do well without a bunch of water. My sister has a big garden up in Cuba, NM. Maybe you have to have the genes before you enjoy gardening Aria! Enjoy the grands Arlene. I think I will steal your name for them: grand girlies!

Everything else is just the boring same old same old, but another hot and sunny NM day!

Enjoy!

I guess I have always had a garden. I really hated to garden when I was younger because it was one of my chores LOL Then I really reconnected with my mom while I loved in Florida . I had 2 acres surrounded by jungle. The parents used to come over once a week and dad did the lawn mom and I did the flower beds. I would pick up discarded lawn furniture and benches after a while it was like a lush park.It was a really huge change moving out here for sure. Now I just sort of reminisce about hanging with my parents while I garden ... weird right . I am still not sure I enjoy it but I do like the way it looks when I am done. It is also a great work out.

Having the grand girlies for a sleep over this week. I think I am going to let them paint the garden benches. LOL this should be interesting. Not sure how far we will get it has been so darn hot.

Hope every one has had a great day. I used up more zucchini in a lemon zucchini bread recipe. Have not tasted it yet so we will see how it is. Also had more rhubarb so got that put up. My neighbor will be happy he loves it.
HOpe every one has had a happy day :)

Thanks ladies!
I agree a clean car helps how you feel. Garden had never been my thing. .. there are times i think maybe but other than harvesting fruit & veggies I have never cared for it.

I agree with Arlene. .. i couldn't do politics day in & out. .. but i am thankful to those that can!

Glad to hear your sign is almost done. .. keep up the good work!

Hoping to have a quiet day here. Hubby vetoed my meatless meal of rice & beans ... so i am adding pork to it. Oh well.

Have a great one!

Chair exercises are great. When my knees won't work, I like to move my arms! You can really get breathless doing them and the heart rate up there.

Always nice to have a spotless car Arlene. Doesn't happen here often. The dealership washes it sort of with every 5000 mile checkup. I need to get it detailed and really washed one of these days.

Not much going here--I did get the laundry DONE! Well at least until tomorrow when the Cottage changes out. And I will finish the painting today and get the sign assembled and hung this weekend. Once that is out of the house, I can do a proper cleaning and putting things back in place.

Enjoy the day!

Aria chair work outs are great :) I used to do some of them when I worked in and office in between clients if we were slow and my work was done. They were great. I used to sit on a ball and always had my bands there in my desk drawer. The regulars used to crack up . emoticon

Leone any thing political make me want to gnaw my wrist. People can never be happy all at the same time and I think they are insane. I give you and your hubby huge Kudos for even trying

We worked in the yard for a bit this morning . I also spent some time with the Armour all doing up the vinyl parts of my car. I had it washed yesterday and paid extra to get the bugs off but figured I could do the rest myself LOL I now have a really hot looking car again emoticon

Then I cut some herbs and have them hanging to dry. Next up dinner Good because I am hungry emoticon

That is a big win, Aria! Way to go.

Travel is not a biggie with me--I like staying home!

Today we are out the door for a day in ABQ for shopping, then back for a meeting at 5 and then I get to collapse. I was a limp dishrag yesterday. Played computer games, watched tv and napped all day. The meeting on Tuesday was an emotional wipeout. Guess I needed a day off.

Enjoy your day!

Hello Aria! I think staying connected is important to being consistent and accountable so even if I don't say much, I still try to check in each day.

You were right about council meetings Arlene. Meeting ran forever, my BP went up and I couldn't sleep last night. URGH.

Today is working on the sign and laundry, but will be a quiet day for me.

Enjoy your day!

LOL I think men forget to mention lots of things.

I never try to save steps. I think my pedometer app on my phone is the best thing I have ever found. My daughter and I compete texting back and forth over the day when we have a minute. It is silly .but it is good motivation for me
I haven't been to one of the council meetings in a while. I get to revved up and could be put in jail over some of the stuff they do.I am better not knowing.
we had a few sprinkles last night. Wish we would get a good rain again.
yippee for getting closer to the completion of the sign.
I used to have over 100 chickens of all types I sold eggs I always had egg money. I also sold chicks ,kids and baby mini donkey's it was fun. Over whelming at times. Never have tried produce though. I usually just share it with the man down the street and my son . Egg money again would be nice. I refer to it as the tattoo fund ;)
Hope you had a good day at dog training.
I worked on pine needles again . Hubby will be home from Houston tomorrow . It is my Friday and I have to run errands . Looking to having a couple of days off . We will have to work on the garden fence . we are being invaded by bunnies. they are eating the okra plants and starting on the eggplant leaves ;( emoticon

Being efficient is not always in our best interest. I do the same thing with laundry--rather than in a basket, I move the individual items to where they are stored so I get more steps. I really don't want to save steps!

You really should sell some of your produce at the farmers' market--you would get a bit of what my grandmother used to call egg money.

We got about 2/3 of an inch of rain last night, but it held off long enough that we got one side of the sign up and finished! YAY! Still have to finish painting the other side, but should finish up by the weekend. YAY again! I'll post a picture when it is finished.

Today is dog training and I am looking forward to that. Tonight is a council meeting and I am going to watch the 'fireworks'--always something. Not really looking forward to that, but like to stay informed. You'd think that sleeping with the Mayor would give me some inside info, but he forgets to mention things!

Enjoy your day all!

The sky is bruised and there is a lot of thunder. It has been pooping out before it get our way though. Maybe today will be different.
I raked up a few more pine needles today after work. I carry them by the rake load over to the burn pile. I could get a lot more done if I used the wheel barrow . I would get as much exercise though. I decided I should probably clean them up because I am always walking around the goat pen for extra daily steps. I figured it would be much easier to spot snakes if I was needle free. I love the way I make up dumb jobs for myself.
I am happy to hear you got your sign base painted . I think just after watching the sprayer being used , I would never want to use one .
I bet your laundry is overwhelming. I worked for several humane societies and we always gave the critters towels. It was a night mare keeping up with the towels. Laundry non stop . I guess in the motel business it means yo have customers though .. which is a very good thing
I have more eggplant and more zucchini I have to cook up. I should sell at the farmers market LOL
Have a great day :)

Finally got the sign base painted and it was dry before and dry after! It will probably rain today, but that shouldn't be a problem. Will try and get one side put up today and the other side finished and put up this week. Will certainly be glad to have this chore finished and out of my living room! As I suspected the sprayer is sort of a pain in the behind--a bit heavy and cumbersome to work with and a bear to clean. It worked great for this sign base--able to get into all the nooks and crannies and won't have to do a second coat, but I will not use it indoors. Bob can use it for the porch floor etc., but I won't use it again (never say never).

Today is a change out day for the Cottage and that means more laundry, but I did get my laundry room rearranged and I am ready for the onslaught!

Enjoy your day!

I really like DE too. I guess I have just never used it on the house. I use it more as a wormer and for the birds and garden.Funny how your mind gets set on certain ideas .
I still have not seen a flea. I think I am just paranoid because insect bites cause me a lot of grief.
We had a brief sun shower last night and some sprinkles yesterday morning. Today it is dry as a bone .
Had lunch with my friend after work. It was really nice to visit with her. SHe has the cutest little chihuahua she always brings with her. Lizzy only likse Sue .I call her Lizzy Lecter after Hannible because she thinks she is so tough LOL.All 3 pounds of her emoticon
She was very interested in my cat.It was cute.
I hope your weather holds so you can paint. I think waiting is a great idea. I can not even begin to dream of my dismay if someone accidentally spray my car hahahaha
Have a great afternoon !

I love diatomaceous earth. It works on all sorts of insects. When I redid the floors in the motel, I spread it around the walls under the baseboards.

Taking today and tomorrow to get the house in order (not pristine, mind you, just in order) and catch up on some projects, do a bit of gardening and generally feel somewhat in control of the chaos.

It hasn't rained in the past 24 hours and I am hoping to paint the sign base tomorrow afternoon or Monday morning. Weekends tend to be a bit too busy around the sign to paint--afraid of overspraying someone's car! That could get expensive.

Enjoy your day!

We get a flea or two once in a while--especially with wet years. I sprinkle diatomaceous earth on their bedding and under my mattress pad. Kills them dead. The fleas not the dogs!

I had a very peaceful evening with the dogs. We lit our candles and curled up with our book. We did our chores in between. No blaring TV it was awesome. Today I am thinking I am going to work in the yard for a bit. Then groom the dogs. May possibly take the challenger in for a bath if the sun comes out . I need frontline I think I saw a flea?????hmmm that is rare here in our area but with all the rain and rabbits in the yard I would say it was a real possibility.

Sounds like you are going to have a busy day too :) Enjoy and drive safe.

I really enjoy my solitude. It feels good to have the space and time to contemplate in quiet and have a peaceful talk with myself. I am kind of selfish with my time!

Today is acupuncture and chiropractic time. Acupuncture (once the needles are in) is a very quiet, meditative hour of relaxation and sometimes even sleep. Looking forward to it (after the needles are in). Then not so quiet time with groceries and errands. Looks like a most of the day trip.

Enjoy your day.

I slice the eggplant and brush olive oil on it ,then stick it under the broiler till it is golden brown.Everything is tastier when it is crispier ;)

I used to walk on the beach every day when I first lived in Florida . I was in great shape. The sand and the water really tone you up. I was younger then. LOL Arthritis makes everything harder. I swear I am never giving up though. I want to be like my mom. She is 84 and is out doing stuff everyday in her yard.My died just sort of sat in his chair and let the pain over take him. He passed in February. It was a blessing and heartbreaking all at the same time.

I Googled those Springs . They sound delightful .

Hubby left for Houston,I am a free agent . I am debating on weather I want to have the grand girlies over to spend one of my days off with me. HAHA or if I want to be selfish and just suck up the solitude LOL

We have had rain here in the Jemez almost everyday or night since before the Fourth. And I love it, BUT I would like to get this sign base painted. And I worry about all the fire fodder we are growing for next year.

Maybe I will have to try walking in the pool at the Giggling Springs--though I would have to do it when it isn't busy.

I learned that swimming / walking in the pool allows for less weight on the hips, knees & feet. And provides extra resistance so you work harder with each movement from going to the therapy pool for PT.

I hope the rain holds off for you, but sadly (and gladly here in ABQ) it has rained a lot the last 2 weeks.

Yup knees can be a real problem. I too, am trying to walk more and it can be a real pain. I HATE water and do not swim, but up here there are lots of hot springs and I do like soaking. Not exactly exercise though!

I have always disliked the texture of eggplant so I will try roasting it.

I hate to say it, but I am kinda hoping it does not rain this afternoon so I can get the sign base painted. I would really like to get these 9' boards out of my home!

Enjoy the day!

I hope your week looks up. I have not been swimming in years. I only own tiny bikinis, I think with those and this older body I will continue to stay away from the water LOL
I have seen some really cute tank suits at Walmart but there is no water here LOL
Hope you work it out soon.It is a lot cooler then walking in this heat and humidity we have been having .
I try to get out early.
I really love eggplant but if it is cut to chunky and put in a mushy stew I am not crazy for it. I like to roast it a bit before I make ratatouille. It change the texture .
Have a great day. I am off to work and then running errands eww emoticon

Your eggplant recipe sounds delicious! My husband hates the taste & texture of eggplant so when i but it, it is cooked for my lunch.

I am having a hard time this week with exercise as i messed up my knee, and both my swimsuits decided to die this week. *sigh* - i am really working to try to rebuild a habit of going to the swimming pool & walking.

I hope you will maintain well on the new dosage :)
Of course I love eggplant but if you fry anything it is delicious .
I bread and fry the eggplant . I make my pizza sauce . I mix my ricotta the same as your would for lasagna with Parmesan cheese and egg. Then to assemble ,you fold the eggplant in to a taco shape and put a spoonful of the cheese mix into it . Put them into a baking pan top with sauce and some mozzarella ,then bake till bubbly. If you want to really make yourself nuts you can slice the eggplant length wise and roll it . I think the taco shape is easier and it tastes the same.
a friend of ours uses nut crumbs in place of bread crumbs because she is grain free.
Have fun a training. I think I am going to be lazy today and just clean my curio cabinet. It is WAY over due LOL.

Spent the day in ABQ yesterday--had a blood pressure check and decided to make a day of it lunching with friends and running errands. My BP meds are being lowered! YAY. Have to monitor but hopefully the 2mg will work for me.

I've never had rollatini. What is it like? Eggplant has never been a favorite, but the other day I had it stir fried and it was delicious. So my palate seems to be expanding!

Today is dog training so back into ABQ. But I so look forward to training that I don't mind the drive.

I hope to paint the sign base sometime this week. The sign itself is almost finished.

Enjoy your day.

I bet the clean up will be harder and messier. I forget how he did that .

We are getting just enough sprinkles here and there that I have not done any painting either. .My job is not important so I may even wait until it is cooler out again.

Yesterday I washed windows and cooked up for eggplant ,Made rollatini this time. Was able to get two pans in the freezer .We also pulled weeds from the front fenced area and scooped up after the dogs
Today I have started laundry going to change the sheets. I know you get that job .
Okay off to work with me Have to feed the goats and let out the chickens before I go
HAve a great day :)

I think it will be a lot more work to clean up! I don't believe I would use it in my home either. But the office at the motel--it might work. The office needs a new floor and the ceiling needs to be painted. It is really a shell so I can empty it and spray away. Of course I will need to wear a cover up, goggles and a mask so that is a lot more trouble too. And then the cleaning! I will let you know how it goes! It might make painting benches easier--I love bright colors.

Today is painting on the sign and more laundry (never ends) and then this evening we will watch Major Crimes with a friend over dinner. Hope to get some walking in today.

Have a great day!

Let me know I am curious . The thing he brought home was a big noisy behemoth .I actually thought it was more work.

My old benches in the yard are all dull looking. I am thinking of painting them crazy happy colors to brighten up my little corner of the desert . I have some old paint. I think I am going to try that first. I would really like to find a few wooden chairs for around the fire pit too. My old ones are really wobbly these days. The wind knocks them around.

Tomorrow I think I will be making zucchini bread. It freezes well. I have a few tasty recipes. I usually have one slice hubby eats the rest of it .SO it is safe to have around.
I was really naughty today with the carbs I made pizza dough and then made a big veggie pizza .
I just can't totally kick the carbs .
I also have more eggplants just about ready to cook. I have promised hubby some eggplant rollatini before he leave for Houston on Wednesday. I will have plenty of left overs for when he is gone emoticon
LOL

The picnic was fun! Lighthearted and good for employee morale. And it didn't rain while we were eating!

I like Farmers' Markets. Such good food. Bet you could have sold those excess plums! The FM in Los Alamos is really a good one, but I hate driving there--narrow, curvy roads!

I am not convinced that the paint sprayer will be a great tool, but wanted something to get into all the nooks and crannies of the sign base. Hopefully it will work for that. I will try it on the office too. Maybe not great, but good? We shall see.

Hope your picnic was a huge success and that everyone had a great time.
We went to bed last night and it was drizzling. I guess it must have really rained out there for a while things are washed a bit today :) I love when we get good rain. Must not have been a loud storm because it did not wake me. That is always a bonus .
Hubby has brought a sprayer home from work to paint with. It works faster . But I think personally there is a lot of waste and he always managed to over spray something . Then there is so much touch up work.. I hope your sprayer works better then his ;)
Farmers market was bust this morning . Great news for all the vendors there.
I came home after work and did up two more batches of plum jam. I still have a small basket of plums LOL If I was smart I would have taken them to the farmers market LOL
Have a great day emoticon

We've been to the big city and back this morning--lots of people coming in this afternoon. Got my paint sprayer and if it ever quits raining, I'll paint the sign base and put up the sign! We've had rain almost every day this month--unbelievable. Everything is lush and green--I don't ever remember seeing it this green and I've lived in NM for 43 years and visited for 20 years before that!

I'm glad the dermatologist visit was a good one! and that your husband went too! Taking care of the body makes more sense the older I get. As the old saying goes: if I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd of taken better care of my body!

Enjoy your day.

Hope your picnic is fun. It is always a good idea to say thanks for the hard work in a nice way where no one feels slighted. A picnic is perfect for that.
We got more ran yesterday. I can hardly believe all the rain we are getting either. Pretty amazing actually. I used to care for an older women and she said it used to rain here all the time .
I made out great at the dr. He did not think anything was a problem and that I could schedule my next visit for a year.Hubby had a few things zapped but he had never gone before. I was happy he agreed to go. My grand father died of skin cancer that was let go. I think we should be a bit more proactive with our bodies and have them checked out .
Today is a day off not sure what we are going to do, I am still in my PJ's LOL it feels good emoticon

Good luck with the dermatologist Arlene. Getting sliced and diced is never fun!

The Village is having a picnic for employees and volunteers today (most of the town) to celebrate the "New Year"--fiscal that is! Bob decided it would be good for morale and I think it will be fun.

Got the sign base primed yesterday after the wood had dried and that coat dried before it rained in the night. Now I can wait until we get a dry spell for a couple of days--is that going to happen soon?! And I think I will look at small paint sprayers for this project. Getting into all the nooks and crannies would be much easier with a sprayer.

Today I will continue to work on the sign--I do that inside and work in the garden this afternoon. AND continue catchup on the laundry. Never ending laundry!

Enjoy the day!

That does sound like fun. :) Our town used to have a parade .It was fun to go every year and see friends and then to take my kids when they were older. I have to admit. I do not even know if they have a parade here. I have worked weekends and holidays for so long I never even think about it .

We have been getting more rain then we have in a long time too. I still have to water .But things are looking good in the mountains. Cloud Croft was vivid green .

I was out weeding this morning too. I seem to run a circuit out there. Too much area to do it all in a day. Next I will be in my front.I am sure the neighbors think I am nuts .LOL

Tomorrow is my Friday. Will have to run errands. UGH Thursday I have a recheck with the dermatologist . Hope he doesn't find any more to slice off.
Better get back to work . The bird feeders are empty and the natives are restless out there emoticon

We have had rain almost everyday this week. I am trying to paint the sign base and have not been able to have it dry out enough to start! UNHEARD OF! Did replace the rotten boards yesterday--of course the new boards are now wet.

The Fourth was a hoot--our parade was wonderful (I picked a group of older people called the broom and rake drill team--it looked like they were having such fun). The vendors were great--crafts and food. And the fireworks were fantastic. It rained about noon. But other than that it was perfect. A fun time seemed to be had by all.

I will be hoeing and weeding today--can't paint!

Enjoy your day!

I have to work. Then I will come home and catch up on some stuff around here that I have been neglecting.Once hubby gets home from work we will catch up on our Netflix DVD it is the second one in the Penny Dreadful serious. Have watched the first 2-3 shows not sure if I like it or not yet.
We are getting some more rain right now :) :) :)
The girls have gone home and it is so quiet YEAH
Have fun tomorrow emoticon

Picked up my car and finished my shopping today. The mechanic suggested rubber snakes--so will look on line for those. NOW on to the festivities tomorrow! Bob has to make some speeches and I have to pick my favorite float in the parade for a prize from our motel. There will be an arts and crafts show and a great fireworks display tomorrow night. And of course the duck race--rubber ducks on the river. Fun fun fun!

OMG what a pain in the rump!!!!!
I seriously could do with out the damage rats and mice do. We have been plagued with them this year. They got into the jeep and had a nest under the seat. Thank God they didn't do any damage to the wires. We have these awful ground squirrel here too now :( :(
I am sorry your day was hot and gross.
It is grey and humid here today. We had rain over night. Got in a nice hike out on the BLM land this morning and now the girls are playing and I an chilling for a minute, Next up we are going to pit cherries and make a cobbler. I am not sure that is a SP sanctioned topic for the daily check in LOL
Have a great day. emoticon

Today was a day I do not want to repeat. It has been hot hot hot here and after acupuncture at noon, I got in the car and cranked up the air conditioner. Horrible noise and no air coming through, but a bad odor. Since I had to wait until 5pm to pick up a dog food order, I decided to stop by the Toyota dealership and see what was wrong. A rat had gotten into the fan and built a nest. The look on the mechanicís face said it allónot a pleasant time. After two hours, there was a part missing and they sent me home in a loaner. Tired to the bone!

My best friend is allergic to my cat :0 I always try to keep him out of the guest room. She has only been here once. It is a nightmare for her. I can't imagine it either
We came back from our camping trip early. It looked like the weather was going to be real bad up their . Hubby said there was no way he was going to be stuck inside a tent or have to bug out during a storm with the girl LOL so they are sleeping in there sleeping bags here . They were sort of bummed out . But better to be safe then sorry .
It was so nice up in Cloud Croft like an enjoyable 74* It was 97* down here emoticon
We will start going up more often after Hubby gets back from Houston.
Have a nice visit with your friend

Here's hoping you can visit with your grandson next week!

I've got to clean the house before Friday. I have a friend coming to stay over the Fourth and she is allergic to all things animal. So I try really hard to at least sweep through before she comes. I cannot imagine being allergic to animals!

Have to babysit the motel this afternoon, so better get a few more things done.

Enjoy your day!

The world has sure gotten tougher with all the new relationship rules .
My house probably needed the cleaning anyway.

Oh, ICK!

I'm sorry about the grandson situation. Similar situation with my youngest granddaughter. Her mother will not cooperate with my son and it makes for long times between visits. I just have accept that the relationship will not be as wonderful as with other grandchildren. But it aches the heart.

we had a wolf spider in the bath tub about 2 weeks ago. Jimmy went to wash it down the drain and all the babies ran off his back. It even grossed him out LOL emoticon

I was hoping to go to Las Cruses this morning after to work to visit with my grandson. I have not seen him in about a year. My son is dead and mom has issues so she is hard to find. :( They grow so fast at this age he will never know me . He is already 2 1/2

Oh well guess I will go chop down some of the creosotes bushes in the back yard they are getting to bushy.
Then when it gets to hot I will come in and do the floors BOOO a visit sounded so much better. LOL
Later I need to force myself to go get hay
Have a nice day emoticon

Snakes have never bothered me, but spiders just send me into spasms of heart pounding terror. And if the web 'crackles', that is a black widow. Since moving to the Jemez, I have seen some of the most ugly, weird looking spiders. I am convinced that most of them are radioactive from Los Alamos! I even had a tarantula on the front closet door one time. Guests had left the front door open. and there it was crawling up the interior door. It was big and all I could think was squashing it would be like squashing a small mammal. I got a big glass and a piece of thin cardboard, put the glass over the spider, slid the cardboard under the glass, and was supposed to release it outside. I got outside and just threw the whole thing as far and hard as I could. UGH.

We have them here too. I see them in the well house and the sheds. EWWWWW I got bit by a spider when I was pregnant with my son. It was awful. My hand was swollen and itchy. They could not give me anything to help because of the pregnancy. I always have a terrible reaction to bug bites. That is one of my favorite thing about NM Not many biting bugs... Well in comparison to the other places I have lived .

I developed a serious dislike for snakes when I lived in Florida . I never knew where one would come from. They could be in a box ,a ceiling panel, a flower bed ANYWHERE ready willing and able to fall out on your head. UGH total "depends" territory for me

I've never enjoyed close encounters with snakes, but they won't fly across large spaces to bite and kill you. I'm quite convinced that most spiders will. emoticon I've got a particular problem with black widows and I see one every summer around my laundry room. That's about enough to keep me in the apartment and completely away from laundry rooms for the whole summer... emoticon

There was much rejoicing!

I thankfully am not afraid of spiders. I used to be a girl scout leader and would take 15 girls into the wilds of NJ .Those girls were afraid of out houses too. They would pee in the woods hahaha. Now snakes on the other hand totally creep me out..
We have a nice air mattress that we take. I can no longer sleep on the ground myself. In fact my knees are starting to get real bad. I have trouble getting up. This getting older thing is for the birds.
We have been wanting to take them. This will be a good test run .
I dug out the go fish and the old maid card. Bet they have never played that before .

Amen to that Val! Once, as a kid, I went to an aunt's cabin with an outhouse. Saw a spider the size of my hand the first time I went in. I don't think I peed again until I went home a week later!

I bet your girlies will think it is a big adventure Arlene! Enjoy the camping and the grandkids.

Painting is messy for sure. I have several sets of old painty clothes that I use when painting. That way I don't have to worry about wiping a brush or hand on them.

I guess you'll find out. When I was a kid I never really had a problem with peeing in the woods. The problem for me sometimes was peeing in the outhouses you find at camping sites in the woods. I'd freak if I could see spider webs when I'd lift the lid. To this day I'm still convinced that deadly spiders are waiting inside those toilets to jump up and bite me on the privates. I haven't gone camping in about 20 years because sleeping on the ground causes me so much pain, but if I did go camping again I think I'd prefer peeing in the woods to using a nasty spider infested outhouse...

There was much rejoicing!

I love to paint :) I can be messy too at times ;)
Sounds like you had a productive day.
I made two batches of plum jam today and fry up the 3 eggplant that were in the garden. I turned them into eggplant parm and put them in the freezer .
We have been planning a camping trip and have been trying to get our gear in order . It seems we always have some sort of brain fade first trip out. Got a text from my daughter in law today she needs a sitter on Friday her day care is closed SOOO we are going to drive back down to Alamogordo Thursday afternoon and pick them up. Should be interesting . We primitive camp. I wonder if the grand girlies can pee in the woods emoticon emoticon

I am an awful painter. I get more paint on me and the floor than where it is supposed to be!

The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.
