Back again - again. Good to see old friends here. Have really struggled over the last year but will not elaborate as I am now looking forward not back. Am roughly following SW but calorie counting as well as portion control becomes and issue for me with free foods. So far so good. Dr is on my case now which helps keep me motivated. With my family history I really should not have let things get this bad and I am having B.P.problems now. Only borderline but am taking it as a warning

I'll check that out, Janet. Thank you.
The Hospital plan said to look for 7-10g of sugar per 100g when reading a product label. It has been a real education to see how much sugar is in some things that I haven't regarded as particularly sweet.
I can have fruit because it is slower to break down and release its sugars. Some fruit like mango and melon are on the no list.
I am feeling lots better for it but social situations are tricky.

Oh yes the meals were very enjoyable!

Jackie...enjoy your pampering!

Diana, can you have sugar free chocolate, diabetic? Just a suggestion if it's sugar you're having to avoid.

Lovely warm day today and no chilly wind, maybe the weather people are getting it right!

Good to be back! Fair weather so far this weekend in the Cambridge area and we took advantage of it to fit in a walk.

I'm not missing many cakes since I've been low sugar but Oh, I do crave chocolate! :)

emoticon Diana, sorry to hear you got sick but glad you're recovered now and back with us again.

Jackie...that is an amazing weight loss and I agree, nobody wants any of their pounds back on again!

I had a nice meal my sister in-law yesterday + the choc fudge cake dessert! Today I'm having lunch out with a friend, so shall enjoy that one too. It's not often I'm out to eat twice in a week!

Heading into the last few days of August and then it's September...!! My, this year is passing us by.

Back again! Lovely to see some familiar faces. I hope everyone is doing well and keeping their heads up.

I got ill at the end of March but have been following the hospital plan and feel 'together' enough to extend my activities beyond the recommended walking. I have made good progress with losing the advised weight and hope logging in here will keep me accountable when the new school term starts and I'm back at work.

I hope you have all had a lovely Summer. Not sure what the long term forecast is but it would be good to have an Autumn where we can continue to get outdoors.

Enjoy your chat time Irene...best medicine!

Well done Jackie...sometimes we worry too much!! lol

My weigh in was 1.5lbs up so at least that got me back into target range...don't want to be paying for any sessions!! New SW magazine is out too...so that will be a nice read on a rainy afternoon.
Out to lunch today with my sil and tomorrow with my friend...then shall have to buckle down!!

Have a good day everyone...raining here but supposed to clear up later.

I am still around. Still plodding on. I went through a very down time , slight depression I think, I haven't been out for days but am going to chat to a friend tomorrow. She is on chemo therapy and her prognosis isn't good . yet she remains positive and cheerful. She's in hospital several weeks ata time in intensive therapy. She is home now for afew days then goes back to start the next round of treatment. She invited me for coffee a chin wag and a good laugh . So I shall do my best and it will do me good to see there's others far worse than I am,
Keep on trying friends , Irene

Hi on Saturday ,it's been a busy week, I was fighting officialdom on phone where you are kept waiting ages then get an accent I struggle to understand, or form filling that takes ages. All I wanted on one form was a replacement bus pass as I lost mine. First thing ion the form is enclose your missing or damaged bus pass yeah right, that's why I want a new one ! I have lost mine,
Then I had a bout of vertigo and couldn't do much only walk round with my head held still , wasn't too and I survived that,
I am becoming less concerned over numbers in scales, yes it's important but not to extent it makes or breaks my day. I am looking at carrying in eating as I do as I like the WW plan. I do exercises most days , if I eat chocolate when I am very stressed , it's not that important in the great scheme of things,.
You know my circumstances , I have to look after my husband and myself and will continue to do so, but can not worry too much over scales at present .i will come on here I will be interested in what you are doing but from a back seat for now, hope you all understand. , Irene

I slept so well last night under my thicker duvet...was worth all the heaving about to get it on the bed!!

Jackie, sorry to hear about your daughter, I know you'll be there to support her all you can. My grandsons GCSE results were revealed yesterday (he's in Florida on holiday) and I gather they weren't very good...I know he'll be stressed about that and whether he'll still get his place at college?

Have a nice w/e everyone...stay safe if you're on the roads!! I don't go to far from home...miles of traffic queues going nowhere isn't my idea of fun!

It's certainly a lot colder now - wearing a fleece today.
Feeling a bit low - my daughter's having a few problems which I can't really help with.

Anyway, well done for going to group.

Donna...well done for that loss....and have a fab holiday at Butlins!

Cathy, sometimes it's OK to STS especially as you have your grandsons to care for.
Wonderful that you can already feel the benefit of your hearing aids too.

Weighed in this morning and was down 3lbs!! Was not expecting that, puts me 1/2lb under target but I'm sure I can get that back up again though! ha ha!!

Then we voted for Woman of the Year! I was one of five ladies asked to give a little resume of our SW journeys, so that was an honour even to be voted for. A lovely lady was the winner. Then...I won a raffle prize...basket of fresh veggies!!

Bank holiday w/e coming up...any plans? I have heard the weather is supposed to be abysmal....

I got hearing aids fitted this morning,I didn't think my hearing was all that bad,but now I can hear so clear and I can't here my tinnitus at all.

Hi Irene, glad you can catch up with some sleep during the day sometimes, that's something I've never mastered unless I'm sick and go to bed.
Glad you're getting the mastery over the paperwork at home...I have a file and just put it away once it's dealt with. The other good thing is that I have a lot of paperless bills that come online these days so that helps.

I can proudly say I've been on plan for a whole 7 days...haven't done that probably since I reached target!! Will be interesting to see what my weigh in is tomorrow.

Hi it is Monday but only an hour or two in the day, my sleep pattern is very erratic ,i was awake from 3 30 am yesterday and up at 5 am , i had two very short naps over the day . I thought I may have a good night then but it doesn't go like that,
My official weigh in day today but I am probably about the same. I have been up and down on the scales ,
It's getting a bit cooler now so the slow cooker is earning it's keep. I used it yesterday as I wanted a free morning to sort out lots of paper work, I am taking over dealing with financial matters and all business now I didn't like it but my husband can't deal with it now, I had so much paper work to go through and make my own filing system . It took a while but in theory I should be able to find any document ,bill bank statement now,, I was pleased with myself for organising it .
Have a good week, Irene

Hi Jackie...well at least you were nominated, that's a great honour I feel. We seem to be doing ours this coming week. Congrats for your daughter for her A-Level results...my grandson will get his GCSE's on Thursday.

Looking forward to some better weather this week according to the BBC.
Pleased to say my eating has been very good for the last 5 days, actually since weigh in day when I seem to go off plan for a few days. I've been planning my days eating at breakfast and that's really helped me. I got out my copy of SW "50 Free Green recipes" today for some more ideas.

Hope we all have a good week to come! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Back from a mini Spark break - my daughter was 18 yesterday and received her A level results the day before so it's been a crazy few days. Maintained my weight at class on Monday but didn't win Woman of the Year. Hey-ho.......
Dreading weighing myself again as have gone completely off plan. Last time this happened I gained 5lbs but managed to eventually lose it again.
Start of the Premier League and my boys Crystal Palace are away at Arsenal. All my family are going but I'm having a much needed rest. Come on you Eagles! emoticon

Sounds like you were at Butlins about the same time as me...those were the days eh!!

My weather has definitely turned to Autumn now...maybe we shall have an Indian summer but for now it's chilly and wet, yet again.

Hope everyone is ready for the w/e...I need to plan my menus, been better at that this week I'm pleased to say. I've been going through back SW mags looking for recipes to give me more ideas.

Hello everyone,Janet i also lost 1lb this week,I am looking after my grandsons during the day for the school holidays, somehow i find it hard to stick to the plan lately.
I took them swimming at the sports centre this morning, tomorrow if the weather is ok,i will take them to ride their scooters on the promenade,it is nice and flat there.
Irene,i have started to use my slow cooker a lot,it is so easy just to put in the ingredients and to forget about it,i have been looking online for some more recipes.
Donna, enjoy your time at Butlins,we use to go to Butlins in Phwelli and Barry island when our children were young,we also used the baby minding service,it dosnt bear thinking about now especially after what happened to poor Madelaine McCann, but it is just what everyone did at that time.

Weighed in this morning and I thought I'd be in for a 2lb gain...surprised myself with just 1lb GAIN! Happy about that. emoticon

Irene... emoticon sometimes we just lose the plot for a while!! Keep trying, that's the important thing.

Donna...glad the heartburn is under control. 1/2lb...what can I say...it's really nothing in the scope of things and as you said, you feel the emoticon emoticon
How lovely to be off next week on your family holiday. I had many Butlin holidays when my children were young, so ideal.
Guess parents don't leave their children to sleep in the chalets while they go out for the evening now!! It was so simple, you just registered your chalet number. If a chalet maid passed by and heard a child/baby crying a message would come over the speaker system which would be heard in all the theatres etc. "Baby crying in chalet 219." And off that parent would go to see to the baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No, not very safe but it seemed to work back then.

That meal sounds nice Irene. Consider this your kick and reminder to look after yourself, you suggested you needed! emoticon

Thanks guys for the heartburn advice. I have gaviscon tablets now but luckily have not suffered again!

I am away from next Friday for a week, we are going to Skegness Butlins again as we all really love it. I am looking forward to a family holiday however there's a lot to do before that and after it it will be back to school and work! Need to get some lists written. emoticon

I was disappointed last night to have put on again, only 1/2lb and its almost TOM but I didn't stay for class and shed a few tears at home. Must do better this week. emoticon
However the good but crazy thing is that I think I have never looked better than I do right now so glad for that but why do I let the emoticon be so important! emoticon

Hello on Wednesday. I have had heartburn a lot too , it can be anything setting it off fruit or yoghurt often do which seems to indicate it's acid causing it. Spicy foods, fats chocolate all cause it , means a bland diet really .
Yesterday I cooked a whole chicken in the slow cooker , I added some homemade soup,a few potatoes and carrots , that made a tasty meal . There was a lot of stock and veg over so I added sausage, bacon, leeks and sage to it. Cooked it off and it's made another meal for another day maybe with pasta, mainly for my husband,
I am neglecting my own needs lately , mainly lack of time and perhaps interest, I need a good kick up the back side girls ! Or some support and encouragement maybe. Oh dear , Irene

I used to take anything with ginger for heartburn. Since losing weight and laying off pastry - my trigger - I no longer suffer with it!
Just printed a pre-weightloss photo of me for the class tonight. Scary stuff - truly didn't realise I used to be that big.
Day in the office then preparing for my weigh in when I get back. Will let you all know how it goes.....

Oh Jackie...what an honour even to be nominated!! Really hope you do well....I know you'll let us know how it goes.

Donna...sorry you have heartburn...something you ate? Apart from mint you could try:
1/2 and 1 teaspoon of baking soda with a glass of water. That should neutralise the acid.
Well done for drinking your water!!! So good for us!
You're right the carvery shouldn't through anyone off plan...but the slice of hot choc fudge cake might!! At least I refused the cream or ice cream!

The pizza sounded really nice Irene, glad you enjoyed it.

Janet I really like carvery meals and they don't have to be totally off plan, however its easier for me as I don't like gravy! emoticon emoticon

Jackie how exciting to be possibly your group's Woman of the Year tomorrow night. emoticon just make sure you take everything as planned and good luck! emoticon

I am still having a great week and have had my 2litres of water every day (was much harder today though). For some reason I have heartburn today and no remedies in the house, I have tried a strong mint and a mint tea. Any other ideas friends?

Have to be good food wise today as my Slimming World leader texted me to say I'm in the final of our group's 'Woman of the Year' tomorrow night! Need to take 'before' photo(s) and some of my now-too-big clothing. Yikes!
Having a day in today - horrible weather so a good chance to catch up on mail and Sparkpeople!
Have a good one folks

Good for you Irene...pizza with baked figs, never tried that one but glad you enjoyed it.

Working the plan sort of here...planned a healthy picnic yesterday (SW quiche) and then at the end after a long walk...had a small Italian ice cream cone.
Today after Sunday service we're taking my son to a carvery. Will be nice...plate of veggies for me and will have a dessert, not sure which yet. Then Monday & Tuesday...full guns for weigh in!!

I don't get on here daily but when I do I like looking at what we have all been doing . We are all sensible and accept at times we will eat what we feel like eating but we also know it's a one off and we will get back on plan again. What's the alternative?
We had a meal out yesterday with our son, I help my husband chose his meal first , then can chose my own I chose something I would never do usually , it was a thin pizza base with goats cheese and baked fig topping, I fancied it I ordered and enjoyed every mouthful . No regrets . Really I was off plan all day and will regret it when I get weighed, but we only eat out monthly now with our son Mike so I am going to enjoy that meal . We don't have dessert or wine with that meal . So back to basics today. Enjoy your day, Irene

Feeling much happier today. Pigged out on a curry takeaway with all the trimmings last night. Knew the scales wouldn't like it this morning but really needed that 'naughty' time and don't regret it at all! emoticon

emoticon Cathy on getting your 3lbs off again!
I took HRT too and I think that's why I got to be overloaded with estrogen....hence the years and years of hot flushes. My daughter has learnt from me and steered away from it. Did you have any problems when you stopped taking it Cathy?

Irene....I'm sure you are looking lovely at the weight you are. Sure, somehow we are never quite satisfied but, that's just us. We don't really need anyone else's opinion do we?

Donna...you are right, no reason for that slight blip and IMO was probably just that day!! It happens. emoticon

Jackie...I shop around quite a few online health supplement companies and find the best deals and products.
Hope you'll be feeling better tomorrow...I know some days are just like that!! emoticon

Been out for the day today....walked round the reservoir before lunch, one hour! The did it again after lunch! All good body magic! Food was totally off plan but so enjoyable! emoticon

I have lost 3lbs this week,so back to what i was before my weekend away.
Talking about the menopause,i am well past that now i don't get hot flushes any more.
Between the ages of 50 and 60 i was taking hrt,i stopped taking it when i retired as i could cope better with the hot flushes when i was home.
I never tried any herbal remedies as i was worried they might not be safe.

Unfortunately I was 1lb up this week and no obvious reason for it! emoticon I was positive about it at club but hated it when they asked my weight (along with everyone else being asked). most people had lost a pound - sad that I found it! emoticon

Irene I too had a friend (at my club) saying she couldn't understand why I wasn't at my target yet as I looked great but to be honest that day I felt really good today. Irene you are being sensible not to let the horrid scale spoil your day!

Again they mentioned drinking a 2 litre of water each day so I now have a 2lt bottle of water in the fridge and I'm drinking it!

Sorry guys I don't want to think about the menopause yet but will write your thoughts down for when its my turn. emoticon emoticon emoticon off to do some gardening now

Hi friends on Thursday . Hot weather is enough for me without hot flushes. I am sure losing weight in summer is harder than in winter in some ways. Too hot to walk fast, too hot to do much exercise , it's ok for light food but sometimes I don't feel like cooking and it's too easy to grab a sandwich .
I have tried writing everything down that I are but never kept it up for long. I can usually look back and think ah yes there was that chocolate, that extra glass of red wine yesterday !
I am not seriously overweight , everyone tells me I am " just right" . It would be too easy to accept that but I know i am not anorexic and would like ot lose a few pounds, even if one friends tells me there is more fat on a greasy chip than on me. It made me smile anyway .
Still in daily weighing and noting daily numbers . I will go to weekly weighing later but for now it gives me some idea of fluctuations so I don't panic now if I am suddenly 2lbs up without any obvious reason, I know I can be down by 3 lbs on the scales dial .
Hope you are all well and enjoying summer ! Irene

Just to cheer you a little about the menopause Jackie...I began the hot flushes in 2002...not too bad now but still having my moments!! I got some Sage from Healthspan (Channel Isle company too) and my daughter is having good control with Menoserene, from the same company. Maybe check those out online. I'm not advertising...just hope this helps you.

Weighed in and was pleased to be down 1.5lbs.....I worked a bit for that! emoticon

Battling my hot flushes this morning. Anyone else have this problem? Have a supplement imported from the Channel Islands to combat this - Black Cohosh doesn't seem to be available in England at the moment.
I deliberately sit under an air conditioning vent at work to get as much cool air as possible - oh the joys of menopause! emoticon

Thanks Donna for the twins birthday wishes today...expect there will be much excitement there.
Hope your weigh in goes well tonight!

Irene...great to be down another 1lb. Are you writing down all you're eating? Sometimes you can see a pattern to ups and down on the scale that way....just a suggestion.

Jackie...your post so made me emoticon gotta love those emoticons!!
Well done for being down 1lb, however you did it!! emoticon

Hello friends I do think of regular team members as friends and we can chat any time which is good.
I am still on daily weigh ins and noting the fluctuations which can be 4 pounds in one day. Which is unreal, I am noting the top number occasionally reached doesn't crop up often now , I take the day to day numbers over a week and take the average, .that way I had lost a pound over the week,
! I was missing bread and felt I needed some. So bought 4 good quality mixed seeds bread rolls and having one a day for my lighter meal . Had tuna on one night, chicken last night plus salad and fresh fruit after, I do feel full then all evening, I will see if it affects my weigh over the week ,
Have a good day . Irene
