Hugs and condolences again Donna. I'm sure Antony's feeling are perfectly normal but from what you've told me he couldn't have done more for his dad. I know you'll be supporting him through this difficult time. emoticon

Morning all

Donna I am so sorry for your loss, as you say, mixed feelings. I think if we were there with them 24/7 we would still feel guilty for something, it is how we are wired, hopefully as time passes your hubby will realise he did all he could emoticon

Thanks all for the good wishes

Well done Sue, great loss for week 1.

My father in law died Monday night and I am feeling a little sad, such mixed feelings glad he isn't suffering any more but sad I wil NEVER see him again, my hubbie is blaming himself for not being there when he died. Though I don't think he could have done anymore in the past 3 weeks.

Good to hear your had a good weigh in Sue-O....oh I hear that test isn't a nice one...well anything that ends with 'oscopy'...seems to be in category! You rest up! emoticon

I had the fracture clinic appointment this afternoon and am not at the end of healing up yet so....more patience needed.

Lost 4 and a half lbs at my first weigh in, only put 4 on spark

Not feeling great, had a rough time with the gastroscopy this morning. Good news is it is just my hiatus hernia causing the problem, so can now go back on my meds.

Tired, been a long day, catch up tomorrow.

btw total lost this year 10 and a half lbs emoticon

Donna, sorry to hear about your fil getting distressed last night. I think they get disorientated and confused in hospital. Hope you find him calmer today and I expect antibiotics will help the infection. Joseph's bil now an infection too. His sister rang last night and said she'd more or less cancelled the celebration tea for this afternoon. She'd tried to get him to look at the cards as she opened them but he wasn't really interested...shame.
Have a lovely fun time with your friends tonight...
70 syns...105 (max) surely? emoticon

Sue-M enjoy your new furniture when it arrives and good for you donating to BHF...we've bought some 2nd hand things from there ourselves.
Well done for good eating out choices too.

Grey drizzle day here...just popped out for a few food things and home again for lunch.
Somebody on another forum made something simple called "Beany Mash" topped with a little cheese!! Mmm I had mine with 2 (meat free) sausages.

Well last day of February...I looked back at my weigh ins and am 1/2lb down; stayed in my target range so happy about that result.

I really think its SO IMPORTANT to be aware of the food we each/enjoy! But don't get too hung up on it we do have 70 syns for the week and we should ENJOY them. emoticon

I am out at friends tonight and we are taking a curry, SW onion bajiss (1 syn each) and a cucumber dip which works out a 1 syn for whole bowl!. I have just looked up popodoms and find they are 4 syns each - won't be eat them emoticon . My dh has helped me make some good food choices here, hope it continues!

How exciting Sue (CountryLady) treating yourself and great to pass them on to people who may benefit from the items you don't want.

In the middle of the night my dh had to go and calm his dad down in hospital as he was removing his oxygen and they confirmed he does have ANOTHER infection and COPD which makes him more vulnerable to infections. Will see him later.

Janet did they make their anniversary? I know it will hardly be a celebration.

Though I do believe we should celebrate every day as we are wonderful and this is (mostly) a wonderful world. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Morning all

Like Sue we ate out yesterday but made very good choices having jacket potatoes with salad, have learnt doesn't mean I can't eat out just have to be sensible in my choices, hopefully it will become habit to choose correctly. Had a very productive morning, we were out at 9 to buy a new dining room table and chairs, saw it yesterday and after sitting here last night thinking about it and realising how much we liked and wanted it we did the deed went backand bought it,won't be delivered till 10th though. We also have a large fridge and a tv with built in dvd player that we don't need or use anymore and have donated those to the British Heart Foundation, am sure they will do someone a good turn. This afternoon its housework and ironing so should have burnt a few calories off before I settle down for the evening.

Morning all, grey and wet this morning.

Janet I know someone who transposes the numbers of her age as long as it works out younger, lol, that would make me 16 and nearly 26 emoticon emoticon emoticon

Chicken dinner cooking already at 8.40 am so that I can zap it when hubby gets home as the rugby will be on by then haha.

Done some walking last few days and I know I am losing weight, but don't weigh in until Tuesday night, so have to hope I don't fall off the wagon before then. We won't be eating out again until after weigh day and ate out twice this week and I made brilliant choices so happy with that.

Good afternoon

Tina, so sorry to hear you have shingles, dad had that in his 40's and said it was really painful emoticon
As for how old is old, dad always says it is 10 years older than your age now, lol

He was at the hospital today as he had a small growth on his arm, and they just froze it there and then. ralph went with him while I stayed with mum. She is really not getting any better and didn't look like herself at all, strange.

Donna, so sorry to hear about your fil, they are a worry aren't they?
Also Janet, hope your bil and ds enjoy their 50th anniversary.

It is our 16th anniv today, which is why we went to the cinema yesterday and we knew today would be all about the parents, lol.
Both days we ate our and both days I was amazing haha. Yesterday we had breakfast out so Ralph had the BIG breakfast and I had one slice of dry toast with baked beans on, the other slice of toast I gave to Ralph.
I wanted the same again today, but can you believe the pub had run out of beans so I had jacket potato with grated cheese and salad no dressing, how's that for willpower?

Hubby bought me lots of tulips and daffs, I do love spring flowers, plus the daffs can double up for St David's Day on Sunday

See you later, need to rest haha

Yes the lunch was very nice...one of my 'let's use up some stuff in the fridge' lunches! lol.

Donna...sorry to hear about your fil...my husband's bil is so near the end of his life now but it's their 50th wedding anniversary tomorrow and I so hope he makes it that far to have a family tea and celebrate.
Enjoy your school day and dressing up!! lol

Thanks Sue and Donna for your kind words - hopefully it won't drag on too long....

Love the picture Janet, I didn't know you could add pictures, thank you for sharing, did it taste as good as it looked?

My f-in-l took turn for worse yesterday. Every day is different though. I will visit with my dh if no one else is going today.

I am dressing up as a witch today as its book day at school - my fave book as a child was the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. emoticon

Tina it was a great idea to start a new post about weigh ins etc but we are all busy people and as the team is buzzing a little more, lets continue to discuss things on this thread. I have tried to do other topics but people have not filled them in very often and so people do not get the support from each other.. Sometimes Irene uses the syns and socialising thread and I'm happy for her and others to enter things there but maybe keeping it in this thread is the best idea. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks for your good wishes, I was so relived and when I realised I was at target on my scales at home which are usually 1lb heavier than the SW scales I knew I could put on slightly bigger trousers which I have wanted to wear for a few weeks, its colder right now! emoticon

I think we are MOTIVATING each other now, its great to be part of our team! emoticon emoticon

Hi All
For the Tuesday evening weigh-ers:
Donna I guess you don’t have far to go to get back into target, so hope you’re weigh-in goes well this evening.
Sue-O: Whatever your weight is this evening, just look on it as a new start – we can do this together
I only need half a pound off to get that one stone award, so am hoping for a loss this evening.
emoticon
Janet, I hope your weigh-in goes well tomorrow.

Sue-M: great news on your 2 pound loss – well done you!!

I too have a Fitbit, and mine’s one that clips on.
Sue-O I have an allergy to metal (other than gold, silver & stainless steel) and I find that a material backing (for things like jeans with metal fastenings) works, or I have had success with painting the back of things other than clothes, with clear nail varnish.

Just wondering – as we all weigh round about the same time – should we start a thread for results and support – what do you all think?

Will catch up later.

Tina x

Congrats Sue-M for your 2lbs down this week...
I agree with Donna...Tina, the scenic route is just fine. My route was that way too...

Wishing today's weighers great success...
Well done Sue-O for rejoining group too.

My turn is tomorrow... emoticon

I have a fitbit one Sue and I wear it clipped discreetly inside my bra, or you can put it in a pocket etc. It also comes with a wristband but as I don't even wear a watch I didn't want something on my wrist all the time. Had a very productive morning so far, am on nights today so have made a bagful of sweet potato crisps for me to snack on, I have also made some small leek and potato cakes with some veg that needed using up, some for brunch when I get up tomorrow and the rest I have frozen. Don't know whats come over me I seem to have so much energy at the moment.

Am glad you are making progress with nursing homes Sue, even if your Dad doesn't want to do it yet you have not only sewn the seeds but will know where to look in the future.

Good luck at your class tonight, I havn't joined anywhere as working shifts cannot go the same day each week so am doing it myself. This has always failed me before as I don't have much willpower but enough is enough and am fed up seeing people wearing lovely clothes that I wouldn't get half my body in so this has led to a new determination.

Have a lovely day all.

Morning all.

Tina lb a week is 52lbs a year, trouble is we get impatient don't we? As hubby told me it took time to go on it will take time to come off, lol

Sue congrats on that 2lbs emoticon

Donna, I just hope I am not too different weighing at night in clothes but fear it could be up to 5lbs different, hey ho lol
Good luck with yours

I am having to put my fitbit in a pocket or my handbag as I came out in a rash from wearing it. I contacted fitbit yesterday and they said they will get back to me within 2 days so we will see what we can do, Maybe I will buy a set of those wrist sweat bands that tennis players wear and put it on over that, lol. So not really tracking and no sleep tracked at all either.

Rang a few nursing homes in the area dad wants for mum, 2 out of 4 do nursing, the others were just residential, so we have brochures coming from 2 and then Ralph and I will go and look. To be fair it is probably just the one we are interested in as the second one although sounds wonderful is about a 15 minute walk from a bus stop and dad can't do that, especially in winter. the other one is about 4 mins from a stop. He asked the Doctor about a referral and he said we have to contact social services at the County council in the first instance so Ralph will enquire when he is back at work.

See you later

I am hopeful for my weigh in tonight 5pm - although if I am not at target anymore I will be VERY sad! Although when I put on loads last week and didn't know why, at least I would know why this week as Friday was a fantastic night, if a little indulgent! emoticon

Really looking forward to my baked potatoes and weetabix for supper, haven't had either for a three days.

I really like minimins, its fun! Although people seem to be talking on this page far more which is great, if you want to create a new topic I would be REALLY happy, its your team!

Going to class for a weigh in really makes it all REAL, however bad and Tina dont' feel the scenic route is a problem, after all 1lb a week is fantastic, any loss is a loss! emoticon emoticon

Mine's in the evening too Sue. You just need to go by the Classes scales as your "official" weight.
Well done for going back. I'm really pleased I re-joined even though I take the scenic route to weight loss at around 1lb a week

Sue all I can do is echo what everyone else has said...I know you'll be doing your very best to find a nice place for your mum and also support your dad through it all. Unfortunately these situations arise and then falls on the adult child /ren. emoticon
The worry also robs us of sleep too.
My sisters had to do the same for my mum when she needed nursing care.

Sue you are not thinking anything most have us have already felt or feel.

Tina............Keith's eyes must be bad if he has turned the night driving over to you emoticon only joking cheeky me. At least the cataract op will help and make his general vision clearer, hope he doesn't have to wait too long, what a shame though as I know he like to take himself off to his boules matches, give him our love please

Donna, I think the cataract surgery should enable my DH to see better. I'm surprised that he has turned the night driving over to me, as he's a man that doesn't like being a passenger. They said it should be about a 6 week wait, but no longer than 3 months.

Sue, don't feel bad about your thoughts. I have been right where you are and know how tough this can be. We're here to support you and it's a privilege that you can share your thoughts with us.

Enjoy Sunday, everyone

Oh Sue I don't think badly, my dh feels the same way about his dad and hopes it will be in his sleep (don't think that happens very often really).

Tina I understand how hard it must be for your dh with his eyes, I am sure my dh would miss driving if he couldn't do it! Can you drive too?

We feel rough here but losing (or almost) a night's sleep is going to make us feel a bit bad but the night was really worth it!

Thanks Janet and everyone for your support with my eating! I have a plan in place now, so far so good!

Morning all
Didn't sleep well last night and when I did, had horrible dreams, all churned up together.

Hard conversation with dad on the phone last night, he is finally beginning to realise that he cannot have mum at home much longer. I had to sow the seeds with him and wait for him to think about it himself. This past week when she cannot walk more than 4 steps at a time he has realised he can't cope with that long term, 3 lots of tablets the Drs have tried and none help and one made it worse. He is getting the Dr back tomorrow to see if there is anything else they can try, and also to broach the subject of nursing homes! I have started researching ones near to him, did say get one near us and come and live with us, but he not keen on that yet. It will probably take another few months before he is ready to let her go anyway, please don't think badly of me, but I just wish she would go in her sleep, but hey ho, what will be will be.

Good news is that the weight I gained has left again and am back on the downward trend once more

Have a great Sunday emoticon

Well I came to live here when I was about 4 yrs old...was born in Cornwall then moved to Leicester before coming south. My father was a head chef so we moved with his work.
For a long time I disliked living here and just wanted to move somewhere warmer. Finally moved to Spain in 1998 until 2012... Then decided to move back to England...my husband insisted we live in Hastings (he'd never lived here though) because all my family are here. He's from west sussex but family are far flung!
Funny is I really am enjoying living here now and it's not as bad as I remembered! lol.

I agree we all have times when being in good company needs other foods that happens to be very nice!! Glad you had a lovely time with your friends Donna... I'm sure you'll make some headway between now and next weigh in.
Hope your fil progresses sufficient to be able to go home again...and the care package is in place too.

Tina, sorry to hear about your husband's health issues...you're right about the medical appointments coming as we get older. I'm also now the oldest sibling and sometime get the feeling the others are watching me! emoticon

We had some snow this morning...not enough to lay thanks goodness!
Still having trouble with my ankle, hoping I won't need to go back to the fracture clinic again!
I've still got my vouchers too....what to do with them?

Hope all goes well with your F-I-L, he's a wonderful age and good quality of life is so important at that age.
I went to the eye consultant with my husband yesterday. He has glaucoma and early stage macular degeneration. He has recently stopped night driving as the headlamps bother him, and his distance sight isn't so good.
He also has cataracts (new to me) and the right one is ok for surgery, which should improve his vision.
Don't get old - you just fill your diary with hospital appointments

I still haven't been to Iceland but hope to do so sometime soon and till then keep my voucher from class safe. emoticon . I have never had Ostrich, it sounds interesting.

My father - in - law is still in hospital but yesterday looked much better and they were talking about him coming home next week. He didn't look so good today, back on Oxygen, but time will tell. I hope they put the care in place for him if he is able to get home. On 1st April he will be 89.

I put on this week, a ridiculous amount for no good reason and believe its maybe because my digestive system is very sluggish and I had a fuller gut than normal! emoticon . I had been really sensible up until last night BUT We had really good friends round last night and I overindulged in all sorts - pringles, nuts, cake, Quality Street chocolates (only 2), some cider and bacardi. What a fantastic night it was and I will try to get back to very sensible before Tuesday weigh in (going to PLAN, PLAN, PLAN - its only 2 1/2 days to go!) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Iceland here I come. The shop not the country. There's onr in the next town,
I think the thought of Spring is making us more body conscious, I know I need to get moving again in every way I have been concentrating on my husbands food needs rather than my own, I have done some shepherds pie type meal to freeze for him, he loves fish too. So today's meal is a sort of fish stew, looks nicer than it sounds , happy eating, . Irene

We love Ostrich burgers Sue, first tried them at Bakewell market as the meat is supposed to be really good for you, you can get sausages and mince apparently but havn't tried them. We also like venison burgers and venison sausages they are really lean and good for you too, they do them in Iceland as well. Glad you back on track, I had a really good day yesterday and got lots exercise in too to make up for the couple not really good days I had in the week. Am going to try to have 7 really good days in a row so hopefully it becomes a way of life for me.................well we will see how long that lasts emoticon . Not sure if I can do it for one day why I never seem to be able to do it each and every day. Any way the sun is shining spring cleaning washing and ironing are underway so hopefully that will all burn a few calories off

Morning all, had my Iceland shop delivered yesterday. Added SW sausages, meatballs and chicken tikka for hubby....not tried any yet. Does say 73% pork for sausages, so better meat content than some others, will let you know.
Also ordered 2 ostrich burgers, not sw, but supposed to be very lean and good for you. 93% ostrich meat, and only 120 cals for 1, but they are big and filling. Different, but not unpleasant, just different taste. Quite liked it and would have for a change, but usually make all our own meals, and freeze half.

Had gained a couple of lbs through eating bigger portions, but 2 days back on track and they have gone.

Hope you all have a great weekend

Snatched some time to catch up on your news here. Sorry to say that I don't log on as much as I did when I worked.
Do 8 sorry to hear of you're Mum's troubles Sue
I continue to cook my own meals in retirement as ready meals have too much salt or sugar for my liking. When working I would sometimes resort to using processed cooking sauces such as Bolognese, chilli or lasagne but am enjoying having the time to make the whole meal from scratch now and try to "cook one -freeze one" to be prepared for the unexpected illness or demands on time
We held a pancake breakfast at Church on Tuesday but delayed our family get together for pancakes until Thursday when DD. from Cheshire was with us
Yesterday we went to a family lunch in a lively restaurant to celebrate MIL's 91st birthday. I tried to choose wisely but in the end relaxed and just enjoyed the day with determination to get back on track today.
Weigh in today so fingers crossed.
Have a good weekend all.

Chris from Medway Towns Kent

Hmm... I've not changed since I retired. I always used to cook in bulk (in a slow-cooker) and froze individual meals when I worked all day and I continue to do that now I'm retired.

Incidentally, I seem to have less time now I don't work..... why's that I wonder?

I hear SW members on fb wondering if they will get good weigh in results next week?

Tina, I think many people will carry on cooking their own meals as normal but others want them to fill a gap when they don't have time. I think that's one of the bonuses for retired people...generally having time to cook! emoticon

I've heard that Iceland are struggling to meet the demand.
I did call in today and looked at the packets, but decided I could cook most of the options (that I would eat) and decided not to buy any just now.
I subscribe to a couple of SW pages on FB and the feedback is mixed, some think they're great and some think they're tasteless.

We will see....
