Hi everyone, I have been coaching since 2004 and am new to this team. I am interested in how our Spark "coaching" and the program are feeding into our work as coaches. I find this a healthy environment in so many ways, use the Spark Coach track, and have learned a lot here. Happy to join this team.

Sorry found the "Introduce yourself forum." ::mutter:: ::mutter:: ::getting old:: ::mutter:: ::mutter::

Since this team does not have a "introduce yourself" thread I'll co-opt this one (if that is okay). I joined this team primarily to investigate coaching by "observing the species." Recent events have pushed me into becoming proactive in this.

I'm a former teacher and former pastor, 17 years pastoral experience. I also worked in refugee camps, the Somali National Leprosarium, and has Assistant Country Manager in Somalia during the mid 80's. Most recently I was a caseworker providing Behavioral Health Improvement services (BHIS) through Lutheran Services in Iowa. I hold a Master of Divinity, a Master of Adult and Occupational Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education. When LSI eliminated my position (because I don't have a social work degree) colleagues and parent's of clients suggested I take on Life Coaching.

Most of the coaching information I read is a review of education, pastoral care, and BHIS. The, apparently, preferred coaching model is very close to how I worked with my BHIS clients. Since I do not have a job and clergy are ineligible for unemployment paying for training and certification is not possible. I hope that will change soon as I'm using my old teaching certificate to get an Iowa Substitute Certification.

I find the concept of Life Coaching appealing but am put off by the "huckster" behavior shown by many people and organizations offering training.

My target weight is 175 lbs. Progress has been slow, for which I have a number of excellent excuses but no good reasons. I also deal with depression (compounded by being very sensitive to the depressive side effects of hypertension medications), PTSD (events in Somalia and other situations), and ADHD. Fortunately my wife is also a pastor and licensed mental health therapist. emoticon

I look forward to learning about life coaching from you.
