Hey, everyone!

I wanted to share my newest motivation for keeping up with my yoga practice. Yoga Journal has an awesome website that I hope you all will spend some time on and learn a lot from. One feature that I enjoy is the 21 Day SocialWorkout challenge that Yoga Journal started. Each month, Yoga Journal will send you a yoga sequence video and meditation that you can do. You track how many practices you do and how many minutes you spend in meditation to keep you accountable. I don't use the meditations they provide (they are secular), but instead supplement them with Heart Physics meditations (more info on these at heartphysics.com).

Please check out these resources and let me know what you think!

Amy

One Christian yoga-like program that is great is WholyFit. Website is wwwlwholyfit.net. It's a yoga alternative, and I like it so far -- have the WholyFit Basics Gentle DVD.

I also have Holy Yoga and Susan Borderkircher's intro DVD, but prefer Holy Yoga and WholyFit.

Please don't let extra weight or not knowing "enough" to keep you from considering this possibility! The Holy Yoga training program is amazing and there are some newbies to yoga who jump right in, as well as people of all shapes and sizes. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about teacher training. I LOVE your statement about how you feel when practicing. Beautiful!!

I appreciate this information. In the back of my mind I would like to become a yoga trainer...but right now the weight around my middle prevents me, along with not knowing the routines and applications to yoga.

All I really do know is that whenever I do yoga, I feel better about myself, walk straight and tall, and yearn even more for a balance within (not being full or eating so much) and a spiritual balance of being in the Word and prayer. I will check out some of these sights. I am new here and now sure how to join a team.
Thanks.
Jo

Everytime I have a "self-bashing thought" (mad at myself because I failed an attempt to reach a goal)I will find 3 positive things I did to replace that thought! This way I will change my thinking and remove one aspect of emotional eating. Soooooo....

1 negative thought = 3 positive thoughts!

Since I originally began this thread in Feb of 2009, there has been a lot of expansion of the Holy Yoga site. Lots more info, including a new blog area and a Christian Yoga resources link.

It's hard to find a lot of Christian-specific workout info, but christian-workout-dvd.com/ has a pretty big listing of Christian yoga DVD's.

I totally agree about the music - I wonder if that is what is played on the DVD? I looked all over for clips of the actual DVD but couldn't find any. I am thinking of email them to ask about the music. I just don't think it would be relaxing if they do. I'll let you know if I find anything out!

That was interesting Liz, but I don't like the rapping music is played. In my opinion, the rapping music just does not fit in with the yoga. But I like being informed as do what others are doing. Thanks for sharing.

I'm seriously thinking about quitting my gym. It's getting kinda boring. Both my sons feel the same way and would like to get stuff to do just at home. I'd like to get some dvds for yoga, kettlebells, more to do with my bar. Thanks for the links!

I just found this one online yesterday:
www.yoitsyoga.com

It looks weird as the link - but the name is "Yo - It's Yoga" :) Funny how so many of these are based in Arizona. Anyone near Phoenix has LOTS of Christian yoga options!

It is another Christian Yoga program with a video focused on hope. I couldn't find a clip fo the video but thought I'd post it in case anyone is interested.

Tough for me to choose a favorite website, Alpacamom - Christians Practicing Yoga has the most depth, since it has articles and such rather than products. Holy Yoga edges out the other two for second, but I am probably biased since I did training with them! The three sites (HY, YY, CY)all offer books and DVDs, whereas the CPY site is more informational. I have them all bookmarked. :) I just looked at CPY to make sure I was correct on what they offer and I had forgotten how much info they have! I just saw an article that looks at traditional yoga philosophy (in this case the yamas and niyamas) from a Christian perspective. Good stuff!

Glad to hear you ahd a good class this morning, Patty!

I took a yoga/pilates class this morning at the gym. I think there was a little tai chi mixed in the beginning. I really liked that part. It was ok. I'd go again. They have the same choreography for a few months then it changes. As far as yoga I would've liked more of that but I can do my dvd's during the day. I need to bring my own mat as there's are too small.

Of the four sites, which is your favorite? I am doing basic hatha yoga but adding my favorite scriptures and times of meditation on Abiding in Christ.

I received a new yoga mat from the medicine company that I have been using their medicine for the MS for 10years. It is really nice. emoticon
